Battery Status - Decrease by 1% And not 10% - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi guys. I've done a search and can find no previous posts or reg hacks for this one on the site...
On my previous PDA (Axim x51v) the battery decreased by 1% at a time, giving an accurate view of battery status. However, my new Vario II decreases by 10% at a time, therefore not giving an accurate status of the battery.
Does anyone know if this can be changed to decrease by 1% like my old Axim?

This is a known bug on the I-Mate JasJam and is listed on the Club Imate site. Sounds like it isn't restricted to just the Imate Rom.

and no, there is no known workaround yet

As I posted previously
I think it may actually be a feature to minimize battery polling so that less energy is wasted checking to see how much energy has been wasted =)
This is by no means the absolute truth, just a thought.

MDA Battery Life

I swear the mda compact has the crappest battery life ever.
I run tomtom for 1hour and it saps 50% battery power
I have to recharge my battery every night even if i've only spoken on the phone for like 20 minutes.
Is it just me???????
I would say your battery is fubar. Try a replacement battery.
My Qtek S110 drops 15% per 24h standby with wireless enabled and 10% in flight mode. Working 1h with med backlight will drain about 15-20%. Really stressing the system running benchmark loops (similar to what Tomtom will do) 10% of the battery are gone in 20min. But I'm nowhere near loosing 50% in an hour.
Overall the battery performance is way better than with my old iPAQ 5450. I need to recharge my Qtek S110 after 3-4 days with my usage that consists of stanby consumption, some 10-15min calling each day average and some 1-2 hours active work per day.
I recharge mine every day and all I do is play solitaire and virtual pool! I'm not getting a gps system for mine until I get an active car mount with charger and speaker built in.
When I first got my jam I could kill the battery in 1 1/2 hours by playing Age of Empires flat out!
my magician holds for 1 week with every day 1h movies or mp3s and 10min. talking.
So how i manage it? I dont know, the only thing i do is i fully load the batt. and sap it off till 10% and then the same... (some in this board told me that this is a good way to destroy the batt. - however it works pretty good for me !)
i have seen a program called battary backup (i think??). has anyone use it?? what does it do??
How about a bigger battery?
Here is a google search for extended batteries. They are only 1500, but that is something extra.
http://www.google.com/search?q=XDA+...ient=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
Here is a 2400, from Australia
http://www.mrgadget.com.au/catalog/...city-liion-polymer-2400mah-battery-p-947.html
BTW, it is best if you don't do two things with a LiIon battery:
1. Run it all the way down.
2. Keep it constantly charged near 100%.
(I learned these from my laptop battery).
Well I try to keep mine between 30% and 80%, that way it should work well.

I use Phone Snooze who do a good job. This software automatically switch the radio off at night and on at mornin' (but you can parameter easily days/hours). It works very well and it permit to increase life battery.
Doesn't phonealarm do that too? I mean switching wireless settings and profiles at set times.

i dunno, maybe palarm do it, but phonesnooze is a light soft and it's very fast to set up , I just use palarm as profile/counter.
I know but if palarm does that too why waste space on another tool that does the same?
By the way, you got the wrong flag in your profile. Isnt that hungary?

Haha, you got me there. I did a google search because I know that green-white-red is not the flag for france. Hungaria and Italy are the same here, just the orientation is different. Italy has the stripes vertically and Hungaria has them horizontically. I didnt want to offend you.

You probably didn't know but if you hold your mouse over the flag it tells the country.
That is true but only in Internet Explorer and I'll stay away from that as good as I can. I use Opera and there it does not show.
Country doesn't come up in Firefox either, but I'm pretty good with flags anyway....
Oh, and on topic, I found a page which offers a little insight into battery care. Doesn't tell you too much, but here it is.

TyTN/Hermes users - request for testing BatteryStatus today plugin

recently i have found really nice piece of software for our beloved toys - BatteryStatus today plugin, which has some interesting features, such as showing current battery charge, available memory, network name and also call time and SMS counter. more information and downloads are on author's website and Prophet forum:
http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_BatteryStatus_XDA_Neo_WM5_iM_cs.htm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751 (MASSIVE thread!)
i've started using it few days ago, but i noticed that it does not count outgoing call times right, while message counter works fine. author of BS replied that he never got that issue reported, so i'm thinking it may be some kind of hardware-related problem with Hermes/TyTN only. author also said that he got one complain about rebooting problems from Hermes user, however i didn't notice anything like that.
since mentioned thread is too big to check it up quickly, i thought it will be good idea to set up separate thread on TyTN forum, so anyone could install BS and test it and that way give feedback to developer.
please report your observations on BatteryStatus below in this thread. TIA.
I will test it tonight, it looks great.
I take it this will still only report in increments of 10%?

no, it will not. A future rom upgrade will hopefully fix it, but no application will do it as the 10% increments are reported by the OS power management functions which all the battery reporting tools query to show you the status.
So it works normally, but for CPU Speed it 300Mhz is that Normal?

Might be wrong so dont quote me
But does the CPU not slow down if not being used ? so maybe would show 300Mhz at certain times ?
I don't know, that's why I am asking.
Did somebody else test the program?
I'll install it tomorrow and report back my initial findings and/or bug reports... Getting a replacement TyTn sometime next week, as I've started to had microphone issues, so I'll have a chance to test on two devices
I forgot to post my comments! Oops :X
Might as well bump this thread cause imo it's worth it
Well, it's installed on my Hermes, and it's working perfectly - no spontaneous reboots (yet!), loads of stuff displayed, and it all just.. works. Perfect. Using v.04.200 build 0171.
Did someone try it with WM6?

Yes, works with no problems at all.
I liked the software, but my phone was having stability issues so it had to go.
The power consumption report was most interesting and now I know to keep IE closed and that turning the back light down from level 2 brightness to level 1 uses half the power, hopefully doubling the battery life
I'm using LVSW 19-5-07 ROM (WM6) but can't blame this BatteryStatus for the issues I was having, but things have improved since. I also had a number of other programs in the Today screen, so may have been an odd combination...
Ciao! Oggy.
This is excellent software.. i have worked with ikarus on some of the fixes for hermes... and would suggest anyone who is going to download this to get it from the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751 instead of from his site... the old version used to report a 300Mhz cpu.. this has since been fixed.. i have had issues with it counting anything outgoing, sms, call's, data, etc... But its very nice software...

annoying battery meter

does anyone else experience where their battery meter only decreases by 10%... at first i thought it was battery status.. it would go from 100%-90%-80% etc, so i opened the actual battery meter that is built and it does the same thing.. what i wouldnt give to see my battery meter go 100%-99%-98% etc... maybe im just to anal
I thought I was the only one!
I just got my 8525 yesterday - upgraded from the 8125. I noticed the battery meter "issue" also and it has been driving me nuts. I googled a little and couldn't find any information. I have reinstalled the Resco today plug 3 or 4 times thinking it was the problem.
Is there any fix? A registry hack? I hate 10% increments - would prefer 1% like my 8125 use to be. Can anyone help?

Your not the only one, and somewhere I have seen other posts on this so it's just standard. I have also tried other meters but they all seem to draw on the same battery info, i.e. the 10% at a time. I suppose it's not a critical matter unless your on your last 10% in which case it can suddenly become critical.
I haven't seen a solution but I would like to be proved wrong!
Mike
Dang, I have the same issue. I was hoping there was already a fix for it.
I keep thinking the 8125 did this as well at some point.
Either way, we definitely need a fix for this 10% decrement crap.
This maybe a dumb question.... When a device reports in such small incriments of 1% lets say.. Does'nt that sorta require more CPU power in the long run?? Better for the device not to report so much right ?? 10% left means hmm I should get to a charger in about 30mins..

Not dumb, very sensible in fact, just not very satisfying for us obsessive compulsives
Mike
i guess i will admit i must be obsessive compulsive... cause this shouldnt bother me as long as its halfway accurate.. but it does.. i think what bothers me is that you see it sit at 100% for a long time, then all of sudden you look and its 90%... just bothers the fk out of me..
Now that my therapy session is over...
Now here is a good question... does this happen the same way on the stock TyTn's and hermes? or is this just a cingular 8525 thing?
Happens the same on ALL Hermes devices, sadly...
This is the way the driver gives the battery status to WM. The only fix would be a new driver from HTC.
I think that this is a minor problem in a device almost perfect (in my opinion)
i wonder if its possible to steal the driver from the wizard.... hmmmm... unfortunately i wont get time to dig and see until this weekend
I have the same problem and I find it really annoying.

We've been banging our heads against this one on the TyTn for a while with no success. Good luck! Nothing like a new perspective to maybe find something!
I'd actually thought the 1.34 ROM didn't show 100% initially after powersave though. That's interesting b/c it was on Cingular's fix list from the 1.31 ROM...

HTC Performance (overclocking cab) safe for 8525?

I want to overclock my 8525 as it's really been slow lately, and I've read a lot of threads about PocketHackmaster not working correctly and xcpu scaler not being correct for our CPU, etc, etc.
But I came across some good feedback on the HTC Performance cab working very well on Apache and some other HTC phones to make them work a lot faster with little noticable drop off on battery life, and I wanted to see if anyone knows if this overclocking cab will work safely on our 8525's before I tinker with it (I don't want to risk a hard reset).
Thanks.

If you search on google, you can find there are a few posts saying you shouldn't be doing this, if you want to have a longer battery and a longer life of your device. If you want to upgrade in the next 3 to 6 months why not, try it out. Here is the file, ... I would not go near it, happy enough to use my current ROM the way it is.
Check this post what it did to the kaiser.
Here is the cab for those who's willing to try.
Edit, don't bother it doesn't work, the mod has advised if you look at the post and the rest of the thread above.

I did a Google search on overclocking after going thru XDA first, and came across this thread on PPC Geeks: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11573
I've tried xpu scaler before and didn't see any difference (and subsequently read a couple threads saying it wasn't made for the Samsung CPU in our 8525's), so I wanted to see if there was another one out there that could reliably upgrade the speed of the 8525.
I may give this one a whirl and let you know unless anyone has any other suggestions on one I should try instead...
Ok, so I've been running this HTC Performance cab for a few days now on my 8525, and I definitely think it's running smoother with it on (I was just messing around turning it on and off and went to the same programs, etc, and I see a noticable difference in how fast things are opening and closing)
I have it set on 520 mhz 'maximal cpu speed', with 'enable dynamic cpu frequence changing' checked
I haven't had a chance to check battery life as I was playing around most of yesterday installing a new spb pocket plus program and messing with adding icons, etc, but I'll report back and let you know if I notice anything different with battery life as well.

forgive me but how do you install this cab or how do you work it just to try it you know please get back to me
I installed it on my Dopod 838pro running Schaps 4.30 yesterday.
Nothing happened for a while.
No menu or shortcut to activate the speed up either.
When I got home last night, the Dopod is practically dead!
It would power on & flicker out before it completely boots up.
Luckily, I had my firiend's old Dopod in my drawer.
Took a charged battery from the spare and my 'bricked' Dopod came to life.
But died again later that night.
Hard resting it did no good either.
Looks like it flattens the battery & then refuses to charge it!
Today, I put another freshly charged battery, booted it and flashed in Satin Normal.
Right now, it is connected to my notebook and when turned on shows the battery as slowly charging. Hope it stays fixed!
I recommend all folks avoid this patch!
Stay tuned!
Phew!
After waiting anxiously overnight, it appears that re-flashing my ROM (from Schaps 4.30 to Black Satin Normal) seems to have fixed my problem.
Battery is still at 90%!

Diamond battery!!!!!!

my Diamond Battery Lasts ,with A Normal Use,for Less Than A Day,no Abuse Just The Regular Stuff, calls, Some Teeter & That's All,my QuestioN Is,is That Normal Or My Phone Is Messed Up?
This doesnt have anything to do with Themes, Applications and Software does it? You will get more luck if you post this in the main Diamond General Forum. * MOD can you move?
There have been quite a few posts about this in there.
There are also alot of tweaks that you can enable to increase your battery life and also alot of people were saying that when they first got their Diamonds they had pretty pants battery life, but after charging it fully a few days later they had a pretty good life out of the battery, At least a day.
Im used to charging my battery every day, ive always done this, and thats just how long my battery lasts for. I play a few games, read emails, constantly get texts and prob take a few pics, and put wifi on for a while to.
Try looking here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398265 - List of diamond tweaks
or here this guys info is pretty useful to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411479
Also try this software called Advanced Config, its pretty useful, but always read the post relating to the software your installing. You have to be careful when tweaking your phone as certain tweaks have certain problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=441
Hope this helps
yes it's normal. unfortunately this is a little problem for the diamond that have a battery of only 900mah. But it was make a battery of 1340mah. You can buy that battery with a cover becauese is increased the thickness
