My Qtek s200 phone shows
Is there a registry setting which can be modified to allow the phone to display:
1) Operator name as read from the phone (I guess it uses a lookup table and matches the name against a code sent from the cellsite)
instead of
2) Operator name stored in sim card.
I am in Canada and using a FIDO sim. My phone however displays ROGERS (Currently the Fido parent company) and also the Roaming icon.
My spouses Treo 650 also using a FIDO sim displays FIDO instead of ROGERS and also Roaming.
So my phone indicates the network name as well as the fact that my SIM is roaming on that network.
My spouses phone indicates her SIM card provider and the fact that her phone is now Roaming.
In summary I would like to know if a registry setting exists to enable either of these behaviours.

Hello!
I'm really annoyed that I can't get my unlocked 8125 to display the network name off the network; right now it is forcing all the network names to show up as Cingular i.e. retrieving APN name off SIM instead of off the network. On my old MPx220 back in the day, I had it setup to retrieve the network name instead of the SIM name by using an unlocked ROM and forcing a PIN on the SIM to come up upon bootup. However this trick isn't working on the Wizard. Does anybody know the registry key to modify it so it retrieves it off the network? This happens with all the Cingular SIMS I've tried, as well as all the ROMS I've tried "including Qtec and IMate stock roms". Thanks!
Bump - anybody got any ideas on this?
I bought an unlocked G1 off eBay to do some developing with. Very cool phone, lots of potential. I am in the UK and the phone is a UK model, not a US one. It works perfectly well on Vodafone, all the data is working and calls and so on.
I noticed however that the Network name isn't shown in the usual places... which is strange, because the US unlocked ones we've all seen on YouTube etc show "AT&T" instead of "Tmobile". On this phone it just shows as a blank.
So my question is... does anybody know why this is? Is there a file that links the MMC/MNC codes to the Names?
When you insert your sim card and set the APN settings the top line of the APN settings in the carrier name. Put your carriers name there and it should show on the phone after restart.
I already have this... which is why it is so odd.
Fields for my APN are as follows:
Name: vodafone UK
APN: internet
Username: web
Password: ***
MCC: 234
MNC: 15
The rest are all "<Not set>"
Anything else needed? The internet works perfectly on the device, so nothing else is required for functionality.
he's wrong. changing the APN name does not change the name on the unlocked screen. that name has something to do with how the tower broadcasts its name
I have an unloked G1 too, with a H3G ITA SIM and when I am on the H3G network does not appear the network name; instead, when I am in roaming (in my case, TIM) it correctly appears the network name. From this consideration I have supposed that when I am on the SIM native network the operator name will not be displayed, but when I am in roaming (national or international) it will appears. It's correct?
I havent tried roaming yet - but im guessing so...
If only we could get a non-tmo build on this thing then it could ALL be rectified. Roll on Root for OTA RC30 :'(

Deedend can u post here all the setting for h3g i can't receive MMS
Deedend ciao mi puoi postare i settaggi anche io ho tre ma non riesco a ricevere MMS solo invio.
I wanted to update you all on the state of this issue.
I was unfortunate enough to roam the otherday and the carrier name popped up on my G1. So something is awry!
I also checked the "getprop" result and saw the following value "gsm.sim.operator.alpha" was "". So im guessing the G1 doesnt like my SIM card or something.
I am going to check the code for android to see how this property is populated.
Update:
I have recently bought an ADP1 model and flashed JF 1.41 RC8 onto it. I still see this issue... so its not model specific.
HOWEVER, when flashing the JF 1.41 ADP1.1 image - the network name is correctly shown!!!
SO - JesusFreak! How can I build a UK specific (dialer screen format etc) ADP1.1 image? Is this possible? Would you be willing to help maybe?
Thanks!
Rich
Hi Guys,
I just changed to another mobile phone operator and the HD2 gives me the roaming message with this operator yet I'm still inside the country. I believe its because this operator "uses" another operator's mobile infrastructure to provide their service and the devices thne think its a foreign operator and that you are in roaming as same thing happens with other operators that do the same thing.
The problem is that since I'm always in roaming mode, the push mail wonk work, phone will not update weather, RRS feeds, etc, etc. And if I allow autoamtic connections in the phone when in roaming, when I'm actually really outside the country (frecuently) it will connect and I will be charged for international data connections.
My question is, is there any application that will allow you to force the phone to take a especific roaming operator as national? i.e. to make it believe its not roaming when under that operator in particular? if it confuses that particular operator with a foreing one, to unconfuse it manually with an application?
Thanks in advance.
Got an x10 today off ebay, unlocked after browsing this forum, by htc-code, network shows carrier on home screen, signal shows 4 bars, yet in status it says mobile network state: disconnected, this results in me not being able to get any calls at all, not even a simple balance check, the sim card is pay&go whilst I sort it out but as far as I'm concerned it isn't a data plan issue or anything like that.
Just wondered whether this is an issue anyone knows anything about or whether it's been imei blocked or whether I should just get in touch with tesco.
possibly important info:
Tesco mobile
phone was locked to orange, now unlocked
firmware 1.6
baseband 1.1.25
kernel 2.6.29-rel semc-android semc #2
signal strength -85dbm 14asu
mobile network type utms
service state in service
mobile network state disconnected
Being a pay as you go, the SIM might need activating? Ring your Telco and see what they say.
The sim came out of another phone I've been using for the past 3 years I'll give them a call later to set up a data plan anyway.
Got hold of Tesco, they couldn't solve it, imei isn't blocked or anything, tried and Orange simcard (the network it was originally on) and that works and makes calls, my other sim doesn't make or recieve calls, so it looks like it hasn't been unlocked fully. I need to get hold of htc-code and try to figure out a solution, that is, when they're online. I'll post back with an outcome.
both my x10a and my nexus1 say the same thing, mobile network state disconnected, and my phones work great. i am on wifi now, but when i turn off wifi my phone has no issues with cellular data.
your phone must not be unlocked yet or you might not have entered your apn correctly. make sure the apn is correct for your network and try again
i just turned off wifi and waited for the 3g symbol to reappear and now my mobile network state reads connected. so this indicates if you are attached to the network for data only.
i would still make sure that you manually configure your networks apn settings and then try to make a call. i think i had an issue when i had flashed to a different firmware and had not entered my carriers info.
Thanks for the reply mate, I'll try that seeing as ferraripassion/sudarshan is offline I'll let you know how it goes.
Sort of fixed, manually entering APN puts up 3g symbol and changes mobile network state to connected, even on wap internet, but I still can't make or receive calls on this sim card :/
Thought I'd check the phone on checkmend this morning, although the phone does still work on an orange sim card, checkmend says
Ever blocked UK: This item has been blocked during its lifetime by one or more UK network(s).
IMEI Currently blocked: This item is currently blocked on one or more networks. It may still work on some networks.

So, with that, does anyone have any advice on IMEI unblocking/people to contact and getting my cash back?
Write to matey boy on eBay and get money back. Because clearly, he's sold a non-working phone that's probably been nicked.
Really strange case:
I got a RAZR M that I hacked to work with US GSM carriers using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166542
I am using my corporate ATnT card with it.
I am currently in roaming (Russia first, now Kazakhstan). Only GSM/UMTS networks here.
I have another simcard with me which is from Russian operator (Beeline). This network is present in Kazakhstan, however simcard is Russian, so in Kazakhstan this Beeline simcard is also in roaming.
Status:
On ATnT card, my RAZR wont connect properly to local cellphone networks. To explain better - it will occasionally connect to one of local operators (KCELL, MCC/MNC 40102), but it takes A LONG time to connect, easily disconnects, and it is very unreliable and erratic.
Moreover, in Mobile Network Settings menu there is NO OPTION to select operator (i do have GSM/UMTS mode enabled, not global).
On BeeLine card, my RAZR happily connects to any of chosen networks, AND operator selection option is available in Mobile Network settings.
I have another phone in my pocket - old Nokia S40 based. This one works perfectly with Beeline simcard. With ATnT simcard it wont automatically connect to a network, but manual operator selection dialog is accessible, and I can select any network and connect to it.
So, for some reason, with ATnT simcard in my RAZR, mobile networks settings menu disbles (completely removes!) operator selection dialog.
Any way to get around this? I have scraped around every possible search criteria, but I cant find any way to force that menu item to appear!
However, I accidentally stumbled upon a weird workaround:
I put Beeline card in
Manually select operator (Beeline)
Turn off the phone
Put in ATnT simcard
Turn the phone on
In this case on startup phone throws in notification (from motorola phone app) saying "selected preferred network not available".
If i click that notification, it takes me directly to network scanning menu, happily displays available networks and allows me to connect. From that point on, it stays fixed to the network I chose.
This means that this is not a problem of simcard or radio or ROM directly. It is some weird trigger built into ROM that reacts to ATnT simcard and removes "operator selection" option from setting.
Any idea how to force Operator Selection option to appear, or invoke it otherwise? Or maybe solve the issue alltogether? My workaround is really inconvenient.
