[Q] Manual operator selection on RAZR M (unlocked for GSM) - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Really strange case:
I got a RAZR M that I hacked to work with US GSM carriers using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166542
I am using my corporate ATnT card with it.
I am currently in roaming (Russia first, now Kazakhstan). Only GSM/UMTS networks here.
I have another simcard with me which is from Russian operator (Beeline). This network is present in Kazakhstan, however simcard is Russian, so in Kazakhstan this Beeline simcard is also in roaming.
Status:
On ATnT card, my RAZR wont connect properly to local cellphone networks. To explain better - it will occasionally connect to one of local operators (KCELL, MCC/MNC 40102), but it takes A LONG time to connect, easily disconnects, and it is very unreliable and erratic.
Moreover, in Mobile Network Settings menu there is NO OPTION to select operator (i do have GSM/UMTS mode enabled, not global).
On BeeLine card, my RAZR happily connects to any of chosen networks, AND operator selection option is available in Mobile Network settings.
I have another phone in my pocket - old Nokia S40 based. This one works perfectly with Beeline simcard. With ATnT simcard it wont automatically connect to a network, but manual operator selection dialog is accessible, and I can select any network and connect to it.
So, for some reason, with ATnT simcard in my RAZR, mobile networks settings menu disbles (completely removes!) operator selection dialog.
Any way to get around this? I have scraped around every possible search criteria, but I cant find any way to force that menu item to appear!
However, I accidentally stumbled upon a weird workaround:
I put Beeline card in
Manually select operator (Beeline)
Turn off the phone
Put in ATnT simcard
Turn the phone on
In this case on startup phone throws in notification (from motorola phone app) saying "selected preferred network not available".
If i click that notification, it takes me directly to network scanning menu, happily displays available networks and allows me to connect. From that point on, it stays fixed to the network I chose.
This means that this is not a problem of simcard or radio or ROM directly. It is some weird trigger built into ROM that reacts to ATnT simcard and removes "operator selection" option from setting.
Any idea how to force Operator Selection option to appear, or invoke it otherwise? Or maybe solve the issue alltogether? My workaround is really inconvenient.

network selection list

Hi to all,
i live on the border between countries, and i have the following problem, terribly annoying: i have a swisscom subscription, and as soon my telephone goes into roaming, especially SFR, it doesn't leave it.
I can of course set "network selection" to manual, and "set networks" to a restricted subset, not including SFR and with Swisscom as a first network. It almost works...up to the first soft reset, when everything is restored to the original configuration and..SFR!
Do you know a way to load onto the phone a different list of networks, so not to have to tick 20 networks every time i soft reset? I am afraid this list come from my SIM card, and apparently my SIM doesn't keep the manual selection in memory.....

"No Service"

I just bought a fido sim card and I get the msg: "cannot register on this network. choose another network, or disconnect your data connection and try again" when i try to manually connect to the network. I have using this phone with at least two sim cards back in my outcry and i bought it independently from my previous network from an eshop in Ireland..
Any thoughts? Could be the ROM and radio installed?

maybe you just need simunlock, to get it go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Blackstone#SIM_Unlocking
I have tried to unlock the sim but the text file doesnt contain any 8-digit number.. So i assumed that this is not the problem..
changing the sim does not change anything in your system settings so maybe you need to adjust some settings to get it working. go to phone settings and look at the band and network settings. once you did that your sim should be able to register with the network, then run the connection wizard to set up your 3g and mms settings.
some settings are also stored on the sim card itself (including call barring, call waiting, sms service center...). eventually you should have a look into that as well.
if it isn't in the settings, you should post more information on your device. what rom/radio rom/spl are you running?
I have already played around with the band settings but nothing. I also have run the network wizard several times, but nothing either..
My ROM is 1.59.23148 SL7.1 WWE and the radio 1.13.25.24
I flashed the official rom:RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.1_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship
and when I try to set the network type to GSM (from auto selection) or/and band to 850/1900 I get the msg: "Warning: Unable to change the GSM/UMTS Band, Please try again later."

How to lock Touch Diamond2 to use with one network

Is there a way to lock my Diamond2 to use SIM card only from one operator (CC 284 NC 03, Bulgaria Vivacom) ???
I want to make my girlfriend to get SIM from Vivacom .
Not so sure about the simcard part but you can configure the phone to use only 1 network. Go to phone setting, personal, phone.
On the network page, set to manual and pick the operator network u wanna use. That'll get the phone to connect to that particular network only.
Changing simcards should result in no network connection, unless the setting is changed back to auto or set to another operator..

Lol don't you think you are over-abusive to your gf??? What's the catch? Unlimited Viva 2 Viva calls????

[Q] CM 10.1 connected to foreign network ?

Hello,
I'm using CM 10.1 (nightly from 20121218) and have a message in the notification: You are connected to a foreign network, click to choose an operator. If I go to the network operators menu, I can choose my operator (Bouygues Telecom) or set to automatic, it does not change anything (and it connects on Bouygues Telecom).
All roaming options are unticked and the state menu displays "no roaming". Everything is working fine, my APN are correct, I can phone and use internet without off-plan but I have this notification message staying there.
My radio is M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.33, my operator is B&You a subnetwork of Bouygues Telecom in France.

Access to SIM toolkit or SIM settings?

Hi all
I'm running Pure Nexus with an Israeli provider (Golan) that provides free roaming + data in many countries.
Phone works perfectly in Israel and the US, but has problems in Europe.
On any other phone, I can solve these problems by enabling roaming in SIM toolkit.
The 6p doesn't have SIM toolkit (it has it in the system apps, but you can't open it).
Nothing I do adds SIM toolkit to the avaialble apps.
Other android phones have SIM and Network settings where you can change the settings, but the 6p doesn't (also tried reverting back to stock).
I can't register on ANY network outside of Israel / US, although once in a while it will work (it worked in Germany, but didn't work in Holland and Turkey, go figure...).
I can't downgrade at all to 3g / 2g (it won't even find any cellular networks). When trying to connect manually to networks it will immediately show me a "network unavailable" alert.
I really love this phone, but this issue is driving me nuts, as I travel quite often..
Any help appreciated

Is your device the International model (H1512)? Did you enable data roaming under System>>More>>Cellular Networks ? Lastly, dial " *#*#4636#*#* " and see if there are any toggles under Phone Info that will help you.
