WM5 AKU 3.0 features info - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

FYI Mobile Review from Russia features a informative introduction to WM 5 AKU 3 (Tytn has 2.3). I hope this update will make it into a future Tytn ROM. Interesting improvements: A2DP update, vCards via SMS, support for WPA2, and enabling your provider to include language packs to choose from only once at initial startup of machine. BTW Does anybody know what is the advantange of sending SMS via GPRS? Free on a flat rate then?

Coming from experience with the BA, don't expect updates, we need gurus like Mamaich and Helmi to start working on the TyTN to help innovate it the way microsoft and others can't.
Try taking a look at the Blue Angel forums and you will notice the great advances they have contributed to make the Blue Angel a great competitor at an age of over 2 years old.

How do you send sms via GPRS? with Web & Walk flat rate of course

Any release date?

can someone clarify this...
if i am on the W&W from t-mobile does it mean that i can send sms' through gprs...
now here come the annoying newbie questions
How and whats the set up...
any help would it be appreciated
regards

The sending SMS via GPRS comment is regards the way WM5 handles vCards at the moment. Whilst Nokia, et al can all send a business card via SMS, i.e. the sensible way the Hermes can only send a vCard as an MMS, i.e. with significantly higher cost to most people. In the AKU 3.0 update you will be able to send vCards via SMS. Its only taken, what, four or five years for MS to acknowledge that people really do want to text busniness numbers to each other.

Thinking of defecting........

Hello Mini users,
I'm thinking of defecting from the Exec (Universal), for reasons that you have all probably heard before.
I have a quick couple of questions if someone could be so kind:
- is the 'xda mini s' the newest version?
- are there any rumours it is possibly to be replaced by something better in the coming months? ie updated version
- are there any glaring bugs? I am NOT a techy, and will only be using phone / contacts / diary / email / internet / porn  / music / games / tomom (is it normal TT5?) etc
- is active sync the same as on the exec? ie syncing with my exchange server?
- does anyone want to buy my as-new exec??
Thanks guys
HPJ

Hilarious mate, love it! Esp porn-on-the-pod!!!
:?: can anyone give a quick answer to my questions? please?!
There will be a newer/better/smaller/faster version of all our phones in the next few months. It is the nature of the business.
Do it, defect from the exec.... i did and haven't looked back.....
the mini s is the latest xda at the moment.... but as has been said previoius, it'll be replaced in a few months, as will all our phones.... the xda 2 is still a popular handset due to all the hacking available for it as will be the same with the mini, exec, blue angel etc etc.....
no mater what xda you have, there'll always be something new being developed for it.....
good luck
EDIT:
As for the active sync thing, that is a feature of activesync itself, not the device, they are both wm5 so will work in exactly the same way as the eec does.....
any other questions, justreply or pm me

New Threaded SMS on vodaphone Treo 750v

The new tro 750v has threaded sms. Any hope to have this program available for all wm5 devices?
although a little early (device is not out yet) I second for this request.
For those who don't know, SMS threading is a Palm thing done in their Palm OS. Recently it has been announced that it's in their 750 and eventually their 700w/wx series as well. Basically it's makes your SMS conversation look like an IM conversation making it easier to read:

It IS a seperate Messaging application that is NOT fully intergrated into Outlook (though I imagine it hooks into the system sounds). It also has a Today Plugin for SMS, which is very nice as well. So from the looks of it, it should be possible to extract from the system if anyone is up for it (when the device comes out)!
O2 SMS Plus does also handle SMS like a thread
A lot of people made request to extract parts from the Treo 700w ROM but to bad only a few parts were extracted.. ..hope they will take this SMS program from the 750v ROM

Yeah the O2 SMS Plus looks nice but from what I understand not many were able to get it to work on any non-O2 devices, or not work well.
Hopefully this will be easier. People did get that Speed Dial/Picture dial plugin afterall.
O2 Sms plus not the same thing
O2 sms plus does not save your chat messages once you exit the application. Furthermore it is not taking the messages from the default pocket outlook so you end up with the same message in two applications. In a thread I started in the Wizard forum an application called "SMS Threader" at trianglepowers.com was discovered. It is almost perfect except I couldn't get it working reliably. I believe it could be due to application conflicts but I will wait to see if the Treo application gets released before I try this again. Everyone should look into sms threader. And make sure you sign up to the forum for there are a few debuging tips mentioned.

Palm messaging clone

I recently got a Cingular 8525 and really want the threaded features that the Palm application seems to provide. I've looked around a little bit and found nothing compelling for free or for sale. Everything I've seen so far is bloated (.NET), buggy, or ugly. No offense intended.
I'm proficient in C++ and have written some PPC 2003 applications in the past so I'm going to roll my own program in my free time.
These may not all be possible but my goals for the first release are:
Plays nice with Pocket Outlook (messages and their state (new, read appear in both places)
Integration with Notifications (display message and launch application in the usual manner upon receipt of a message)
Integration with Contacts application
Proof of concept design (SMS only, minimalist interface)
I'll then post it and the source code and see what additions and visual enhancements poeple want most.
First:
All I've seen of the Palm application are some screenshots on engadget. Would someone with the Palm application be willing to send me a series of detailed screen shots showcasing their favorite UI features?
I can tell when a UI is done well and when an application looks good, but I'm no good at coming up with stuff myself.
I only ask about UI features now to help me architect things in a way to make help me more easily implement features people want later.
Second:
Are any developers out there able to point me in the right direction for the Pocket Outlook and Contacts integration stuff? I'm currently reading a ton of documentation searching for this and a pointer might speed things up considerably.
Finally:
If there's already an open project doing the same thing I'd rather improve that than make my own. Does anyone know of one?
the official palm messaging app has been extracted and ppl have been working on getting it to play nice with most wm5 devices. check out:
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/palm-threaded-sms-program-for-wm5-beta-4-update-11-21-t978.html
This is where all the action's going on. you can get a copy of the app by PM ing the ppl there. It works very well with the TyTN and interfaces very nicely.
anyone have any more screenshots of the palm messager? I'ld like to see it before i take the plunger
Take the plunger, lol...
Found these on another site. Remember tho, Palm has asked us not to distribute the app. Please respect their authority

Video Chat (same as the TyTn II)

I have the HTC Apache (XV6700) with WM6, and my friend has the HTC Hermes (8525) with WM6 too. His phone screen has an option for video call, but it doesn't work. Is there any info on this? I don't have that option on my WM6 version.
I'm assuming AT&T has a video chat feature (or maybe will have one soon). I saw on a review site for the TyTn II (here is a link http://smartmobilegadgets.wordpress.com/2007/07/31/htc-tytn-ii-the-ultimate-mobile-companion/) The phone has a camera in the front that acts as a video chat.
Is there any way to get this working on our phones?
Here is a pic from the link above.

Even if you could get it working would you really want to? Lets think about this for a minute...your camera is on the back of the phone..so you would have to choose whether you wanted to see the person on the other end or turn the phone around so they can see you. Kinda defeats the purpose of "video chat" doesn't it? Additionally they are a 3g device that can handle data and a phone call at same time. The apache is not..it handles data OR a phone call.
Some people are just clueless. You have a phone designed for a CDMA network. NO CARRIER in US offers true video calling right now. (cingular's video share is useless if you ask me). What makes you think it would work ?!

Testers needed for WMOptimizer v0.0.0.1

Hi all, this is my first time to write a post here, I need some testers for the application I am developing - WMOptimizer, it's basically a tweaking application for Windows Mobile. I know there's already some tweaking applications like XperiaTweak, Tweak2k2, and DiamondTweak for WinMo tweaking purposes, but I intended to make WMOptimizer finger friendly and visually appealing. Maybe this two enhancements are optional to most users out there, as functionalities are most important of all, but I want to test my ability of using .NET Compact Framework to make an application that is generally acceptable by the public.
I'm a international student studying in Australia Queensland University of Technology, the reason why I'm developing this application is because I want to try and sharpen my own programming skill and if possible add this into my port folio/resume, as an international student from Malaysia, a strong resume is very important, I hope to use this opportunity to strengthen my resume.
I've opened a wordpress blog for this application, http://wmoptimizer.wordpress.com/, I will post the most recent updates of this application there.
WMOptimizer v0.0.0.1 can be downloaded at my Skydrive here, please leave a comment here about the application.
It's developed in WVGA resolution, because I only have one WinMo device, Xperia X1, so it's my only option, please try the application using other WinMo devices and let me know the results and what you think about this application, thank you so so so much!
You can contact me via leaving a comment on wmoptimizer.wordpress.com or email me [email protected]

i tried it seems to be very promising however in present state not very useful .
When more features are added, I'm willing to try it out. I don't think it will be ground-breaking, as for instance Schap's Advanced Config can do this already, and so much more..
Keep going on your good work mate! Seems very promising !
promising but not that useful considering the lack of features. your next version should have the majaority of whats in advanced config 3.3
