New Threaded SMS on vodaphone Treo 750v - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

The new tro 750v has threaded sms. Any hope to have this program available for all wm5 devices?

although a little early (device is not out yet) I second for this request.
For those who don't know, SMS threading is a Palm thing done in their Palm OS. Recently it has been announced that it's in their 750 and eventually their 700w/wx series as well. Basically it's makes your SMS conversation look like an IM conversation making it easier to read:

It IS a seperate Messaging application that is NOT fully intergrated into Outlook (though I imagine it hooks into the system sounds). It also has a Today Plugin for SMS, which is very nice as well. So from the looks of it, it should be possible to extract from the system if anyone is up for it (when the device comes out)!

O2 SMS Plus does also handle SMS like a thread
A lot of people made request to extract parts from the Treo 700w ROM but to bad only a few parts were extracted.. ..hope they will take this SMS program from the 750v ROM

Yeah the O2 SMS Plus looks nice but from what I understand not many were able to get it to work on any non-O2 devices, or not work well.
Hopefully this will be easier. People did get that Speed Dial/Picture dial plugin afterall.

O2 Sms plus not the same thing
O2 sms plus does not save your chat messages once you exit the application. Furthermore it is not taking the messages from the default pocket outlook so you end up with the same message in two applications. In a thread I started in the Wizard forum an application called "SMS Threader" at trianglepowers.com was discovered. It is almost perfect except I couldn't get it working reliably. I believe it could be due to application conflicts but I will wait to see if the Treo application gets released before I try this again. Everyone should look into sms threader. And make sure you sign up to the forum for there are a few debuging tips mentioned.

WM5 AKU 3.0 features info

FYI Mobile Review from Russia features a informative introduction to WM 5 AKU 3 (Tytn has 2.3). I hope this update will make it into a future Tytn ROM. Interesting improvements: A2DP update, vCards via SMS, support for WPA2, and enabling your provider to include language packs to choose from only once at initial startup of machine. BTW Does anybody know what is the advantange of sending SMS via GPRS? Free on a flat rate then?

Coming from experience with the BA, don't expect updates, we need gurus like Mamaich and Helmi to start working on the TyTN to help innovate it the way microsoft and others can't.
Try taking a look at the Blue Angel forums and you will notice the great advances they have contributed to make the Blue Angel a great competitor at an age of over 2 years old.
How do you send sms via GPRS? with Web & Walk flat rate of course
Any release date?
can someone clarify this...
if i am on the W&W from t-mobile does it mean that i can send sms' through gprs...
now here come the annoying newbie questions
How and whats the set up...
any help would it be appreciated
regards
The sending SMS via GPRS comment is regards the way WM5 handles vCards at the moment. Whilst Nokia, et al can all send a business card via SMS, i.e. the sensible way the Hermes can only send a vCard as an MMS, i.e. with significantly higher cost to most people. In the AKU 3.0 update you will be able to send vCards via SMS. Its only taken, what, four or five years for MS to acknowledge that people really do want to text busniness numbers to each other.

SMS like chat anyone?

Ok, I am a big fan of windows mobile. I have used most such as BlackBerry, Palm, Symbian... There's only one piece of software I cannot seem to find for WinMobile. I would like to find something to make text messaging similar to the Treo or BlackBerry. Treat text messaging like instant messaging. Does anyone know of software that gives Windows Mobile the capability of this?
-Thanks for the recommendation for search vijay!

Old news
Search (hard) for "Palm messaging".
V
In searching for Palm Messaging I came across SMS Threader. It's awesome.
Thanks

Maybe you didn't have to search quite THAT hard : )

By hard, I meant, accounting for the fact that the cabs have now been removed. But they're still available in various places....

yup yup

Ok.. found This as well
Palm Threaded SMS Application for WM5
http://ppcgeeks.com/threaded-sms-is-working-update-10-29-t978.html
this one's from O2SMSPlus
Is that O2 SMS Plus available to the public? Couldn't find it to download....
The Threader looks great, but i didn't want to install the CF 2.0 if possible...
By using these programs you don't get charged for text messages?
no, it's just a better way to text. these are still sending SMS's, if i am correct.
I try to install the SMS threader "to device", and get the error: cannot be installed..
HELP
did you install the .NET Compact framework 2.0 first?
You can download it here
It looks like this program needs this to run, which is too bad b/c i am told that takes up a lot of memory
I guess it cant be installed to storage?
Is it worth it to run this chat program....?
Thanks

You can install CF2SP1 almost entirely on storage cards.

CF2 is required by a lot of other apps as well; see for example http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...n_of_net_compact_framewo&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 for an almost complete list of the best CF2-dependent titles.
It wont let me install// I dont have free 24mgb internal program memory...
Having trouble installing Resco or Total commander also?
Thanks
NET CF 2.0 stinks. Too slow to load, etc. Maybe with AKU 3.2 it will be faster since it will be native, who knows.
The Palm app BLOWS all the other apps out of the water. Not even close. I hope you find the .cab, its worth it.
The Palm one dosnt require .NET Compact framework 2.0 ???
Anyone know where I can get the CAB?
i dont see or have any issues with netcfV2.0 yes its large, like 2meg, but i run programs that depend on it such as wififofum and hitchhiker, etc... i can choose the cab to install to my storage card and dont have any issues running the said programs.
and i do agree.. search very hard for the palm messaging app, this is one of my must install programs!! its fantastic!

Palm messaging clone

I recently got a Cingular 8525 and really want the threaded features that the Palm application seems to provide. I've looked around a little bit and found nothing compelling for free or for sale. Everything I've seen so far is bloated (.NET), buggy, or ugly. No offense intended.
I'm proficient in C++ and have written some PPC 2003 applications in the past so I'm going to roll my own program in my free time.
These may not all be possible but my goals for the first release are:
Plays nice with Pocket Outlook (messages and their state (new, read appear in both places)
Integration with Notifications (display message and launch application in the usual manner upon receipt of a message)
Integration with Contacts application
Proof of concept design (SMS only, minimalist interface)
I'll then post it and the source code and see what additions and visual enhancements poeple want most.
First:
All I've seen of the Palm application are some screenshots on engadget. Would someone with the Palm application be willing to send me a series of detailed screen shots showcasing their favorite UI features?
I can tell when a UI is done well and when an application looks good, but I'm no good at coming up with stuff myself.
I only ask about UI features now to help me architect things in a way to make help me more easily implement features people want later.
Second:
Are any developers out there able to point me in the right direction for the Pocket Outlook and Contacts integration stuff? I'm currently reading a ton of documentation searching for this and a pointer might speed things up considerably.
Finally:
If there's already an open project doing the same thing I'd rather improve that than make my own. Does anyone know of one?
the official palm messaging app has been extracted and ppl have been working on getting it to play nice with most wm5 devices. check out:
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/palm-threaded-sms-program-for-wm5-beta-4-update-11-21-t978.html
This is where all the action's going on. you can get a copy of the app by PM ing the ppl there. It works very well with the TyTN and interfaces very nicely.
anyone have any more screenshots of the palm messager? I'ld like to see it before i take the plunger
Take the plunger, lol...
Found these on another site. Remember tho, Palm has asked us not to distribute the app. Please respect their authority

SMS program that will show full thread?

The built in messaging in WM only shows so many messages per page. You have to keep clicking on the "older" link to keep moving through the messages. So I'm wondering if there are any SMS managers, etc. that will show the entire thread on one page. Also, show the time along with the date?
I too would like to know this answer for our kaisers and tilt 2's. However, i am suspecting it would slow things down a bit, but am willing to see what the difference is. Also the date and time would be nice
mine shows the date and time i recieved my text. not the entire thread though. i always delete my messages anyways. though it would be cool to see the whole thing on one page.

thats what i m looking for as well, the SMS client and build in dialer are the only cons for me with this phone
Mine shows the time on some, and the date on others, but never both on all messages. Makes no sense to me
not sure if this is what you were trying to see but if you go in to the contact individually it shows your entire conversation =)

Try resco contact manager. It incorporates nicely but I don't think it will be what you completely want because the rhodium is a nice device with great graphics. For wm 6.1 it was a great addition, but check it out.
Hope this helps.
Yeah, the date and time show up if it is the SMS was received in the current day. The problem is if you backup your phone and then restore it, like through myphone.microsoft.com, it loses track of the order.
The HTC version does show the whole thread at once, with dates and times but you can't export the thread like you can in the WM threading, which I do by just doing a select all, copy, paste to word, save.
I guess what I'm really trying to get at, is the ability to archive conversations as it appears in threading mode.

Touch Pro 2 Messaging on HD2?

Ok, not sure what its called but I looked up both "windows mobile 6.5 messaging" as well as "sense 2.1 messaging" and didn't find what I had on my touch pro 2. As you guys may all know, the messaging is slow for the hd2 when you get more than 20 texts for a single contact.
Well I tried zeenys (sp?) htc disabler but I dont like how it reverts to a list of all texts, rather than have them organized by contact (threaded i think it's called). What i'm looking for is messaging that was on my verizon tp2 where it would only show like 10 messages, and gave you a link to see older messages (again 10 at a time)... Is this possible on the HD2? Couldn't this be like ported or something from the tp2's rom?
Also you would get here on the touch pro 2 by selecting "all messages" rather than clicking on the message in the preview part.
Anyways, heres a screen shot of what I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions/advice.

I believe you can only get to that with some of the cooked roms with HTC messaging completely removed. That is Windows Messaging without any of the HTC stuff. Even if you use the disabler there is still some of the HTC software embedded .
I run Kumars 2.0 prem without HTC messaging and I see that when i click all messages and open a persons thread
I recommend the Energy rom. It's got sort of a hybrid, which I think is well balanced. Also, the messages are threaded and only show like the picture you included when you open the thread.

Link to that rom? Can't find it anywhere.
I'm using Kumar's v2.1 (latest release) and I don't have that.
Anyone?
