Hi,
I have this annoying problem with my Prophet. I cannot transmit or receive files through bluetooth. I thought it is a WM 5 thing, but it works on my friends smartphone and dell PDA.
Did i do the ROM upgrade incorrectly, or is this inline with the patch of bad luck that i am getting with my prophet?
Cheers,
Oz.
Hi
Go to settings>connections>beam and make sure its ticked to "recieve all incoming beams"
To send files just search them using the provided file explorer, tap and hold and then select "beam file"
IT will then search for nearby BT devices. Click tap to send.
You can beam to loads of ppl at once as well, so thats cool.
The one thing I cant work out as of yet is how to change my default recieve directory from My Documents. I want to recieve files on my storage card *grrr* but I guess it will ahve to do for now.
Beaming a file searches INFRARED ports nearby as far as i know.
To send files via bluetooth i (try to) use RESCO EXPLORER which has "send file to bluetooth recipient" command but i've never succeeded. The transfer windows opens but closes suddenly. Even with the desktop set to receive file via bt tray icon.
Any clue?
I only tried this once but it worked fine (and it's odd that it did).
I selected "beam file" from the built in explorer while BT was open and another device with open BT was near by. It opened the usual dialog for IR, but then a second line appeared, the BT device (which had no IR port) was detected and I successfully transferred the file.
Odd, that BT doesn't have a separate interface, but if it works, it works...
Oh yes. It works via BT by beaming from File Explorer. I succeded to send a file to my PC at last. Thanx for the trick...
However the PC must absolutely set to RECEIVE FILE via BT tray icon even though its bluetooth is active.

Has anyone noticed that when you enter contacts and select a person, once you try to access the "send via bluetooth" option as in wm2003se it seems to have dissappered in WM2005 on the imate jasjar,
Although a cool device, a bit on the slow side, i've had to hack the device to death in order to get any decent speed gains out of it. Bluetooth doesn't seem to offer any services like Obex file transfer. Could this be why all connection to other bluetooth devices fail seeing as the profile in Bluetooth is unsupported on Firmware version JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10301.zip ??
Cheers

this is in WIKI
To change the ability to receive files via Bluetooth (OBEX)
The setting is at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Obex'
The 'IsEnabled' DWORD value should be set to '1' to enable OBEX and '0' to disable OBEX.
For example, to enable the ability to receive fles via Bluetooth
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Obex\IsEnabled = 1
says receive so i dont know about send, try it!! might be it
how about explore other devices
I was beaming file to JasJar without the hack for some reason. Still works ok for me now :?
i aint tried, i hardly ever use bluetooth, soz bub
thanks a bunch Carnivor
will try this now
it worked !
I can now recieve files via obex
Cheers once more
kewl, i just recalled reading OBEX in WIKI, definatly worth a shot that worked for you.
If you turn on "receive incoming beams" u can receive BT files without the hack. The above is no longer just for IR, hence the red AND blue icon.
Any ideas what folder it puts the received files in?
Can you change it?

So does this mean if we turn OFF "receive incoming beams" it also disables a part of the bluetooth functionality?
Sorry if this has been asked but i could not find it through search.
If i try to transfer file or picture or ringtone to another phone i dont have beam by bluetooth.
The manual says right click then beam file but this only opens infra red screen.
I dont seem to have bluetooth for transfering but i can connect to other devices and use hands free in car no problem.
Any ideas?

You need to edit the registry to enable OBEX transfer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=289941#289941
it still doesnt work
even with that registry tweak, it won't show any options to transfer files. any other solution?
how do you see registry
cant find registry how do i get into it to edit it
clive
I found out that that reg tweak does the same as in Start-Settings-Connections-Beam. Tick the box receive all incoming beams and the setting in the registry switches from 0 to 1. I do not advise anyone to change it to a 1 in the registry, since that means that your infrared port is also active all the time, which is battery consuming.
For sending a file, turn on bluetooth and tap and hold the file in File Explorer. Than select beam file. It will start with looking for infrared ports but after it finds none, it will automatically continue to look for bluetooth connections. it will then ask the other device to accept the connection and start sending. For receiving a file, you have to tick "accept all incoming beams" in the settings-connections menu as well.
Concluding: there is no beam by bluetooth menu, it is the same menu that the infrared connection uses. It is somewhat tiresome that it starts with IRdA first, perhaps a reg hack can change that, but I don't use it often enough to find out.
looks correct
hmm !
seems to be ok i tried this and it transfered files i hid my nokia in the draw but it found it immediately on the infrared screen seems to be saying it is sending by infrared but i thought that would not work if they were lined up.
Will try with nokia in another romm then will be convinced it is sending by bluetooth
thanks for your help

You're welcome. It is not very clever design, hiding the BT interface in the infrared beam menu, but it does work! Be sure it is sending by BT, for infrared there has to be a line of sight connection, so putting your Nokia in a drawer rules out infrared.
I have been a pocketpc windows CE user for years and I loved the "send via bluetooth" and "send via email" options whenever I pressed and held on a file or a selection.
What happened to those?
How do you email 63 pictures from your phone?
i think its called beaming now. beam through bluetooth.
Ok I go to:
File Explorer
Press and hold on a file name
Select Beam File
"To beam, select a device.
Searching
NO RESPONSE.
Here is funny part!
I select more than one file and the SEND AND BEAM both go GREY!
Send...
Beam File...
maybe u have to do it one at a time
also, the BT device that its going to has to be on and ready to accept BT files before you can even see the device when searching. some devices have to be configured also.
If you got a Commanager with a Beam button it has to be enabeld to. Then you´ll find other BT-Devices
Thanks everyone
BEAM?
The wing doesn't have IR, does it?
no but BT works for me only with Beam enabled...

Basically BT took over infrared when you refer to beam.
That is correct, the Beam... feature actually uses bluetooth. The problem is that is does not show your paired devices or even the device names around you. So if I have 10 bluetooth phones around me and I want to send a picture to my friend sitting next to me, I may end up sending it to a stranger (90% chance)
u can see who send to
as long as the recipient has their name in their owner information on thier phone, it will show thier name on the list... you just have to wait a few more seconds before it shows on the list... i send files from my mda to wing and it shows unknown device first, and then a few seconds later it shows the name of the device
Was trying to bluetooth a video to a friends phone today but couldn't find an option for it.How do you do it???
yeah i was trying to send a cab file to a friend but couldnt do it with file explorer.. would be good to know..
goto start/programs/pictures and videos (might be a different path depending on your rom)
select the picture (or whatever) you want to send and tap & hold
in the menu that pops up select beam...
you'll get the usual "select a device" screen: tap on the device you want the file to be sent
setup the passcode (both devices must enter a passcode that matches, i suggest something simple like 0000 or 1234)
done
NOTE you must enable bluetooth (duh), can be done in two ways:
from TF3D interface, scroll to the "settings" page
click comm manager
and tap bluetooth
OR
goto start/settings/connections/bluetooth
second tab called "mode" check "turn on bluetooth" and "make this device visible to other devices"
it's simpler than what it seems

i just successfully sent an xml file from phone to pc
Just moved from a sony ericsson c905 to the HD2.
I've had WM devices in the past but have been with SE for a few years now.
Anyway a few dumb questions...
1) how can I transfer sim card contacts into the device? I swap sims a lot and don't see a sim manger?
2) With my sony ericsson bluetooth enabled so when I turned on my car the stereo would pick up my device and any calls would automatically route to my phone. I've sync'd the HD2 however every time I start the car I have to manually re-snc the device before the audio and head set profile is applied. Is there a short cut?
3) I had voice dialing set up, Don't see an option for this on the HD2??
Hope you guys can help as I am thinking about returning this awesome device if I can;t get these basic functions working.
From the manual:
If you have saved contacts on your SIM card, you can copy them into Contacts on your phone.
1. On the SIM Manager screen, select the desired contact, or select all SIM contacts by tapping Menu > Select All.
2. Tap Menu > Save to Contacts.

For the SIM Manager, go to the People tab and select "All People" and then "Menu". SIM Manager is at the bottom. Then do what donalgodon said to copy them to the phone.

Do you want a shortcut to the bluetooth manager, or do you just want it to connect?
If you want it to connect (I hope you're up for some registry editing ) try this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625372
If you want a shortcut to the bluetooth manager, it's called BTManager.exe and it's in the windows folder. If you select it (in file explorer, or similar) and then go to the folder \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and "Paste Shortcut" in there (from the edit menu), then you can add it as a quicklink to your home tab.

Unfortunately, there's no packaged voice dialing software with the HD2, but there's plenty out there to choose from. Cyberon Voice Dialer and MSVoiceCommand seem to be the most commonly recommended. A google for either of those will turn them up no problem.
Hope this helps mate
thanks for the posts, RTFM
however I had a feeling the bluetooth might be a registery setting - they don't make it easy do they. Looking forward to WM7.

I'm quite suprised you're having that issue with bluetooth. I don't use it that often, but the devices that are paired with my HD2 simply connect when bluetooth is on. At least that registry info is a working fix for now. As you say, roll on WM7
