Hi guys and gals,
How could I explain my problem...
Let's give it a try!
I have a PDA model Orange SPV1500 (the same machine also comes as Alpine, Qtek 2020i, XDA2i, etc).
Anyway, I decided to upgrade the ROM to get the latest one and to have it in Spanish, as it is my native language...
Apparently, the only way to do this is using a memory card, so I did in the following way:
I used:
The PDA (obviously)
Sd card 256 mb
The actual infor in spanish of how to do it:
http://www.pcdemano.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13789
Spanish ROM file from Telefonica: Qtek2020iESN.nb1
romupdate.exe
ntrw.exe
CPART.EXE
MERGE.COM
SPLIT.COM
HEX Editor (HEX WorkShop)
------------------------------
1 - Using Romupdate.exe with the PDA connected to the PC in "bootloader" mode, I 'ask it' to make a copy of the ROM on the SD card (d2s 80000000 3F00000)
2 - I then take the card out of the PDA andI insert it in my card reader. Using CPART.EXE I copy the file in the HD (i.e.: ntrw read ROM.nb1 L
3 - I extract the 3 programs inside the rom file using SPLIT.EXE (split ROM.nb1)
4 - I open one of the 3 files extracted with the hex editor (HEADER.NB1) as well as the updated 'telefonica' ROM I have (Qtek2020iESN.nb1). I put the header from my rom into the telefonica one.
5 - I merge together my new Spanish ROM with the header file I extracted from my PDA with SPLIT.COM (header.nb1 + ext.img + trailer.nb1---->NEWROM.nb1)
6 - I write the new file to the SD card (ntrw write newrom.nb1 L
7 - I insert the SD card into the PDA, put it in "bootloader" mode and follow the on-screen instructions: I press the power button to start the transfer process of the new ROM to the PDA.
8 - It shows an error!!, but it seems to have finished...
9 - I restart it and...
NOTHING!
DEAD!!!
I never saw it move anymore!!
---------------------------------------------
After some research, I think I may have made a mistake when copying/pasting the ROMS
I have compared their sizes and they are 36 bytes different!
- ROM.NB1: 244 MB (255.852.544 bytes)
- NEWROM.NB1:243 MB (255.852.508 bytes)
Does anybody know if they actually have to have the exact same size??
Now I can't (anybody knows how?!) put the PDA back in bootloader more, so I can not put the old ROM back in...
The only way in wchi I manage to get any sign of life is to plug it to the pc or charger and the red charging LED lights up!
There actually seems to be a lot of power consumption! After 6 hours of inserting a full battery, it goes down to 50% (I used another PDA to check it!)
Is there any way to make the PDA go to bootloader mode?! Serial or, anything?!?!
Any suggestions, PLEASE!?!
Does you screen display anything?
Did you keep your original back-up of your ROM (ie. what you flashed to your SD card)?

I don't see anything on the screen, ANYTHING.
And yes, i keep my original ROM in the SD card and the hard disk
Thanks for your reply,
Mino
Try....
Insert your SD Card and perform a "hard reset". Does this give you the option to "reflash your ROM' with the ROM Image on your SD card?

This will never give u any options.
You need to put it in bootloader mode(engg mode) and then do a SD card ROM image flashing
kdskamal,
Thanks for the tip. You're right. I haven't done this for a while. I realized my mistake re-reading some posts at www.buzzdev.net.
Mino,
Eject your SD card with your original rom files.
Put your device in bootloader mode by pressing Power button + D-pad simultaneously +reset button with the stylus for 3 seconds
Once you see "Serial 1.XX", insert your SD card with your original ROM image.
You should be able to reflash it at that point.
Justin
That's the question!
I can't put the PDA in bootloader mode! I push power button, etc and the screen continues in black, nothing!
The only solution is to replace the electronic card, therefore you must send it in assistance. About 115€! :?

hello,
i'm using the xdatools to put the nk file on the SD card, but when i hard reset my xda, i get into bootloader 5.22 mode, it says "gsm ok", and when i press the action button i get into a test menu.
How can i load the nk file from my sd card? please help.
thanks guys.
Did you place the ROM on the SD card by browsing to your device (...) or using the drop down and choosing your SD reader or XDA SD slot?
I had the same problem until I used the drop down... if you browse to your card, XDA tools will not create a bootable SD.
i used directy dropping down the box to SD
When you use the drop down menu on the destination there should be a drive letter next to your card eg: F: 59.60M USB sd reader or similar, choose that and it should work.
do we soft reset or hard reset
well after loading nk.nbf file
do we soft reset or hard reset to get into bootloader.
also,
the drive letter in destination folder will come if u use card reader,
but if in expansion slot than it does not give the drive letter.
Hello
I did hard reset .
I am having this same problem...
I download to the SD card through the cradle, using the phone's expansion slot. I do a SOFT RESET, to get the bootloader, and all I get is a GSM OK message. If I hit the action button, I then get into the test menu.
Hello
Means you have no nb.1 on your SD card .
as per the instructions I've been following that have been listed in detail here on this site as well as the att siemens support forums, you are supposed to copy the nk.nbf file and use that with the OS Image tool...is this incorrect?
OSImage
I just installed new ROM from new ROM Kitchen .
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
1) Get the file on your desktop ( download or ...I do not care)
2) Open OSInage
3) Source  Brows to your file
4) Destination  your SD card (where is it :?: -on your phone
or on the SD card reader)
5) Copy the file to SD card (takes 20 seconds)
6) Remove the XDA from the cradle and soft reset with power button held in.
7) When it says press action to download, push the big button between dial and hangup.
8) Hard reset.
9) Injoy the rest of your day
No way getting SD-Card recognized
Hello,
i have the same problem, the ROM (Made with xda-tools or XDArit) on sd-card is not recognized to download when i boot into bootloader!
I found no way to get this running.
Any ideas?

I'm in the same situation - I have v6.22 on T-Mobile 4.01.00ENG and can't do anything, even with an SD card!
Even the BootLoader downgrade tool with XDATools doesn't work.
Any help with this would be appreciated by many other users in the same situation.
The downgrade batch file in XDA-Tools doesn't work for a lot of people (didn't work for me either). However the wallaby patch should work. Otherwise, use XDARit to downgrade the bootloader using the .nb0 file that comes with the downgrade batch in XDA-Tools.
You write the wallaby patch onto the SD card using XDARit, go into the bootloader and enter diagnostics. Then take the SD card out, write bootloader 5.15 onto the card using the bootloader option in XDARit, and place the SD card back into the device. Then from the patched diagnostics screen select Restore SD and it will recognize a bootloader update. I'd recommend saving your original bootloader from the diagnostics first, but that wouldn't work for me for some reason.
i had a 5.17 boot loader that i downgraded to 5.15 via OS image tools, i also downloaded a rom file from the Kitchen & wrote it on SD but i still can't load from SD & i only get the test phase thing

Try using XDRit instead of XDA-Tools (use the older version of XDRit instead of the newer version). I'm not sure what you mean by "test phase", but maybe your bootloader screwed over during the update? If so you may need to rectify that first, but that's definately beyond me. If you burn the image correctly onto the card it should pick up automatically as soon as you enter the bootloader with 5.15. If you don't burn it correctly then it won't be picked up.
I'm just throwing in my 2c because I've made all this stuff work with a 5.15 downgrade. There's a possibility the thing simply doesn't like your card too, so try a different 64MB SD.
well i do have a 256 mb card & as far as i can tell the downgrade worked fine, now to use the xdarit files to i need to have the SD reader or i can do it the same way i do in XDAtools which is directly into the card through Active Sync
I have a Wallaby (Qtek 1010) I flashed it a couple of times with USB cable and the rom.exe files you get from LumpiStefans romkitchen. The last time when I tried to flash it with windows 2K3 SE it locked during the flashing and the only thing that happens when I try to turn it on now, I get a distorted picture of the progress bar. When I boot in to the bootloader i get the v5.17 screen.
I have tried using XDArit to write a nb1 file to my SD card but i get a "Failed to open device \\.\PhysicalDrive5" error.
I also have XDA tools but I am not sure how I bypass the bootloader with that application....
please help
PS XDA tools works fine, but as mentioned, I can only write nb1 or nbf files to the SD card not nb0 which as far as I can understand is the bootloader bypasser...
Normally writing ROM is enough. You don't need to flash the bootloader if it isn't necessary. Try writing the ROM to SD-Card using XDAtools and install the ROM via Bootloader.....
Stefan
I have tried to write the ROM but nothing happens when I turn on the device. or that is the same thing happens as if there where noe SD-card in the slot.
I have tried several times now, no message about formatting the card when I stick it in, the reader recognizes the card, cause I can flash to the SD card.
Flashing XDA1
Bootloader 5.17 may be a problem.. it does not let you flash from an sd card. You will have to
1. downgrade the bootloader (tricky) and only than 2. write /flash your rom

Before you start:
Suggest that you back up PIM data with ActiveSync. Copy any
other files you need to an
SD card or desktop/laptop computer. Try not to do a full
backup and restore that later
as it will usually mess up the XDA. Re-installing your apps is
the best way since PPC2002
and WM2003 are different.
Hardware that you need:
1. O2 XDA smartphone (obviously!)
2. Sync cradle
3. Internal/External SD card reader
4. Spare SD card (preferably 2)
Software you need to download:
1. Get cooked ROM or any other ROM. ROMkitchens at
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org
2. Get XDAtools from
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDAtools-Jeff.exe
3. Get bootloader fix tools from

** For XDA with Wallaby Bootloader V6.22, I only need items
1,2,4 and 5.
Method 1:
1. Install XDAtools.
2. Start XDAtools and select the OSImageTool.
3. Backup your present ROM. Select Source and Device Memory
(current ROM). For destination,
press the [...] button and select a place to store the file.
Press Copy. Keep the file
created in a safe place.
4. Next, select Source as the ROM file you downloaded or
cooked. Select Destination as
Device Memory (via Programme A). Click Copy.
5. Follow on-screen instructions.
Method 2:
1. Extract wallabypatch-sd.nb2 from wbt-1.5.tar.gz in item 4.
2. Using XDArit v1.0, choose Write to SD card and tick
Diagnostics and select the file
wallabypatch-sd.nb2 and tick the header of 1k. Click OK to
write.
3. Insert card into XDA and choose No when prompted to format
card.
4. While pressing power button, press the soft reset button.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that ActiveSync doesnt recognize my device... :/ That rules out Method 1, and XDArit doesn't work on my SD card which eliminates method 2...

First of all, what for SD-Card Writer are you using? Most of the internal Writer are causing problems....
Second question: What happens when you try entering bootloader (Holding Power button and doing Soft Reset) with the SD-Card inserted? Do you get the normal bootloader screen ?
Stefan
I have used two differen SD card readers, one external USB and one which actually is a digital camera cradle.
When I start in bootloader mode I just get the normal screen, I have tried making the ROM and inserted the SD into another wallaby v5.15 and that went just fine, but when I insert it into the v5.17 I just get the normal bootscreen.
Use Old version
I attched the zip file.. however I do not remeber which of the diagnostics (the bootloader fix file) is working.. I suggest try both...
Good luck
flipped?
i have a problem. i found my father's xda in our storage room. when i try to turn it on. it's just freeze on the bootloader (o2 bootscreen), and the worst thing is the screen is flipped ( you have to hold it upside down and look it through the mirror to see it correctly)
i try to flash the rom. but the activeSync doesn't recognize my device, after that i try to flash it from the sd. but nothing happen.
PLEASE HELP ME!
O2 XDA
bootloader 5.22
is really useful for me, I am glad to read it here.
Sorry to ask this question which I know has been covered in so many other topics - but thats the problem - the topics are scattered and the answers are varied.
I have a Wizard derivative - an O2 XDA Mini S.
I have run the unlocking wizard and it is now unlocked.
I now want to
a. Backup the exisitng ROM
b. Backup the External ROM
c. Load an updated ROM.
I have tried the 'Unlock EXT ROM Wizard' - but still can't see the External ROM (in Total Commander for example) to back it up.
Can someone post a precise set of instructions for the step by step process for doing a. to c. above.
I am sure that others will find it useful as there still appears to be many posts from confused 'novices' to PPC (like me) who are trying various procedures on a hit and miss basis with varied success.
I just did the backup bit today.
Download aWizard 1.3b2
Run it, run the RAPI server using the 'e' command, wait till it starts, unlock the CID using 'u', then you can backup using the 'b' command, give it a name to backup to, and wait 15 or so minutes and it'll backup your GSM, OS, and Extended roms.
As for flashing, you can use the aWizard tool if you have the .nba rom files.
Or you can use one of the pre-packaged roms + flashers like the iMate one... but, that's where it gets a little perilous. AFAIK, the latest iMate rom will flash a locked Extended rom onto the device, which you can not edit any longer. So until someone figures out how to unlock the Extended rom, be careful.
My other idea would be to take the iMate full rom and break it up into the GSM, OS, and Extended roms. Once you do that, instead of using the pre-packaged flasher and rom, use aWizard to flash the GSM and OS roms and do the Extended part manually. Then you can keep an unlocked Extended rom (of your stock image) incase you ever want to revert to stock (since you backed up the stock GSM and OS roms in the first step).
Where is the aWizard 1.3b2. The unlocker I have is called lockiwizo2b and there is no u option.
Read the upgrading portion of the wizard forums, its all over the place there.
PS, be absolutely sure you want to upgrade, once you change, there is no going back, I did mine, I'd like to go back, but cannot.

Sure you can.
If you have an SD image you can go back to the T-Mobile original US load with no problem at all. You DID make an SD image of the ROM before you screwed around, right?
The SPL will not downgrade (you probably can do that by running the RUU for the "hacked-up" earlier Imate version with the 1.x SPL/IPL) but I've found no particular reason to.
I have verified that an SD image restore to the original T-Mo US firmware works from the Imate shipping RUU.
Genesis.
What is the best method for making the SD Image?
I would also like to know.
I would also like to know if the original Extended rom can be backed up after the iMate rom overwrites it.

You need:
1. A terminal program that can speak over the USB port. Terraterm has a patched version out which can do this.
2. A CID-unlocked device (it will NOT work if its not CID-unlocked!)
3. A SD card of 128MB or larger (buy a 128MB for just this purpose, as its a great backup device)
To use it:
1. Get into the tri-color screen (hold CAMERA, reset) and plug into the USB port.
2. Kill wcescomm.exe from Windows XP (this is the ActiveSync driver for the USB port)
3. Start your terminal porgram
4. Hit "return" to insure you have a command prompt.
5. Make sure your 128MB SD card is in the slot.
6. Type "r2sd all" and hit return.
The loader will dump the entire ROM (including extended ROM) to the SD card.
Note that this is NOT a file on a FAT filesystem - its a RAW data dump with a signature and checksum. As such you CANNOT read it onto your computer using a copy - you need a tool like "psdread" to read it from the card to a file on your PC.
If you use a NEW card, you can search for the end of valid data or do what I do and dump the entire 128MB (which is larger than the dump file for certain) and then just compress it - all the trailing zeros will compress to basically nothing.
Stick the card somewhere safe.
To RESTORE from the SD card, insert it with the power off in the Wizard, then power on while holding the CAMERA button. With the older ROMs the backlight will be OFF; with the new IMATE one it will be ON. It will tell you to press the VOICE key to load from the SD card. Do so, it verifies the integrity of the dump and loads it.
Note that the prompt only comes up for a few seconds and if you're using a 1.x release of firmware when you do this the backlight is OFF so its hard to see - but its there. Grab a flashlight if necessary.
Once you load something else on your unit from stock of course you can't go back unless you did this FIRST. This was the first thing I did when I got my MDA, so I have a copy of the T-Mobile "base software" on the SD card in case I pooch my device and need to go back to the OEM firmware.
Thanks Genesis. Very helpful guide.
I did another search on the forum using different search words and I found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
and it looks like this is does the same thing - but without having to use other programmes like Terraterm.
Am I right?

You, sir, are my new hero. You win 3 internets for this post.
Although, what would happen if I used my existing 512mb minisd card with apps already on it? Will it dump to a file and I can compress at that point? You mentioned it was non-readable on the card if I did that. I've already backed up the stock ROM using the aWizard tool, but if I used your method with a miniSD that had files already on it, would it blindly write to it, clobbering files, or write something to the card that was unreadable via a PC (basically not as a file on the filesystem), and if I put more stuff on the miniSD like apps or media, it'll overwrite the backup of the image?
If you do this to a card with data on it you will pooch all the data - it will scribble right on top of the FAT tables and destroy them.
Second, you won't know where the data you dumped ends. To be safe you should save 128MB of the card (from the front) to your file on the PC. This will result in a larger-than-necessary file, but that's ok.
You need tools like "psdread" and "psdwrite" to read and write the SD card in "raw" format - it is NOT a file that gets dumped, but just a RAW image of the ROM (with checksums)!
The only other "gotcha" is that depending on the EXACT configuration of the data you dump the SD card may refuse to reformat to its original capacity when you're doing doing this and/or refuse to reformat at all!
That's fixable by writing a block of zeros (e.g. 10kb or so worth) to the front of the card, which will clear what's confusing Windows (and the phone).

interesting. if I got a $10 128mb minisd, though, I wouldn't really care to use it in anything else other than this phone. I have a 512mb already for daily usage, so the 128mb would be for a backup incase I want to revert to the standard OOB rom from T-Mobile.
As long as the rom is written to the card and will read from if I choose to restore, I don't care if windows ever reads from the card again.

I did another search on the forum using different search words and I found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
and it looks like this is does the same thing - but without having to use other programmes like Terraterm.
Am I right?

That's the tool I was talking about. This will dump the roms to a file on your PC that is readable. You can edit stuff, rewrite it back to the device, etc.
But what I haven't gotten a definitive answer on is whether you can flash the iMate extended rom and then overwrite it at a later date with the original t-mobile extended rom, since the iMate one is locked or something. Genesis' method involves using a miniSD to create a raw image of a newly booted phone, GSM/OS/Extended rom and all, which you can keep somewhere safe incase you ever want to revert. Apparently, even after flashing the iMate rom with the locked Extended rom, he was capable of re-flashing the device with the original rom from the miniSD.
This is exactly what I am looking for. I want to switch to the iMate rom, and know the order all the cabs in the extended rom need to be installed for it to work properly, but I was afraid I could never revert to the OOB experience. This fixes that, and I will be ordering a 128mb card tonight.
I downloaded Tera Term from http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html is this the right one? It only has COM ports as options to communicate.
Can someone please provide a link to a terminal program I can download which works over USB?
Hi,
I followed your instructions for making a backup of my ROM to an SD Card. I have a small problem, I don't have a card reader for my PC, is there any way to get the ROM image onto my PC via my Wizard? Also since the Wizard doesn't think the MiniSD card exists anymore, is there anyway to raw write those 0's to the card from the Wizard.. perhaps using terraterm? Or have I just killed my MiniSD card and I'm going to have to buy a reader for my PC ?
Thanks!

You need a card reader in your PC (or a friend's PC) - I do not know of a way to write it directly in the MDA.

Ok thanks, I've got one from a friend now, so all good I was looking at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HimalayaBootloaderCommands to see if there were any bootloader commands for writing to sd card, but it appears you can only copy the ROM to the SD, besides, this is for a different phone anyway.
Ok I may have found something: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=XdaUtils/psdwrite.exe claims to be able to write raw to the SD card on a WinCE device... I'll investigate.
I'm currently reading the image raw from the MiniSD card using the command "psdread -1 0 0x0F140000 sd.img" using a 256MB MiniSD and it appears to be working, albit slowly. I'll keep you informed of whether I can succesfully recover my SD card using the writer after this read finishes.
Hi,
My Imate JAMin is dead after trying to flash the ROM with the QTEK S200 ROM using awizard. Anyways my phone will not connect to PC when I try to downgrade to the original ROM file (the JAM_WWE...exe). The problem is my PC wont connect to my phone, I get error 240 or something similar (cannot connect to phone message). So what I am asking is if anyone can backup their Imate JAMin ROM to a SD card and upload the image for me. I figure somebody here has got to have an extra SD card lying around somewhere. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
If you tell me how to make a SD image I will make one for you.
thanks for offering help. I am out right now, when i get home i will do a search and find out how to do it. In the meantime if anyone has any links for backup rom image to sd for wm5 and how to save this image to a file and then to write the image file to sd card again. thanks again.

1. Put the phone in bootloader mode (make sure battery is over 50% charged).
To do this, press the Camera button down, hold it there, and press soft reset. Let off the soft reset button BUT continue to hold the camera button down until you see 4 color bands on the screen. Let go of the camera button when they appear.
2. Connect USB cable to PC.
3. Re-run imate JAMin full flash .EXE file. Should work fine and get you back to normal.

Thanks for your help. I tried that before 5 times and the phone would get stuck on the boot splash screen. Now I cannot even get the phone into bootloader mode anymore unless it is plugged directly into the outlet. I do not know why it is doing this. I have charged the battery all the way. I also have a magician so I have tried 2 different batteries charged all the way. Since I can only get the bootloader mode while it is plugged directly to the wall, I cannot connect it to the pc. I have no idea why it is doing this. I just want to try restoring from an SD card rom backup before I send it in to imate.
I have made a sd image from my ROM and uploading it now. It's about 54 MB. I also tested to flash my Imate with this card and it works good. When you enter bootmode with the sdcard inserted it asks if it should restore from card. At this point press the comm manager button (the button under the volume control).
It's a image on a 128 MB SD card. You just have to write the image to your card with ntrw.
Good luck and let us know the results!

Thank you so much!!!! I really appreciate it. I just hope it works. If it does not work for me at least others can get this sd image to fix their prophets in the future if they cannot get it to connect to their PCs. I will let you know my results.
Do you know if the device has to be unlocked already or can you use this to get around the CID lock?
The SD card flash did not work for me. I was hoping the RGB color screen was the bootloader but it was not. I guess there is something wrong with my JAMin so I am sending it in to imate in the middle east. I would like to thank Swartb for taking the time to get the ROM image on SD card.
To answer the CID lock question, I think it does not bypass it so if you want to use the SD card to restore it has to be the same phone model so in this case the JAMin.
Hi!!!! could you tell me where is that SD copy of your ROM????
Thnaks!!!!!!
[Your SD card will be formatted in a special format during the procedure below and you won't be able to use it for other purposes unless you reformat it again afterwards. Please be adviced that you will lose the backed up ROM on SD card when you format it afterwards again!!!!]
I successfully created a FLASH IMAGE on my SD card and afterwards flashed my T-MOBILE MDA from there.
The magic tool needed for this is the HTC mtty.exe (attached below)
You have to follow exactly the STEP-BY-STEP guide otherwise the procedure will fail! I will not be responsible for any damage on your device!
Please make sure that your battery is charged to at least 50% and also back up your device before following the guide below!
CREATING THE IMAGE ON SD CARD
STEP 1
Open ActiveSync (device not attached) and uncheck USB and COM port in Connection Settings. This is necessary to release the USB port for the mtty utility!
STEP 2
Get you an SD card of 128MB or bigger (fresh formated to FAT32) and insert it in your WIZARD
STEP 3
Set the Wizard in BOOTLOADER MODE by pressing and holding POWER + CAMERA and press RESET - if you got the 3-colored screen you were successful!
STEP 4
Connect the device via USB to the computer, then start the mtty.exe on your computer
STEP 5
Settings in the mtty.exe:
Port: \\.\WSCUSBSH001
(all other settings leave the way they are! Please pay attention that you write the port exactly as mentioned above: 2 backslashes followed by a dot and another backslash - this is not a typo!!! I attached a screenshot below)
STEP 6
Now click OK. You will get a notepad-like window with a blinking cursor. After hidding the ENTER KEY once you should see "CMD>"
Type behind that: r2sd all
STEP 7
The utility will start now to write your IMAGE to SD. Please do not interrupt the process! You can see its progress on a statusbar on the bottom of the device's screen. Wait until it shows 100%. Also: the CMD> will appear again on your desktop when it is done.
You created successfully your IMAGE on SD!
HOW TO FLASH FROM THE SD CARD ???
Turn of your device!
Insert the SD card with the IMAGE you've created
Turn on your device in BOOTLOADER MODE by pressing and holding CAMERA and POWER button and performing RESET
=> Now you need to be fast!!! A white screen will appear for not longer than 3 seconds asking you if you want to FLASH from SD card. You have to press the VOICE DIAL / RECORD button within that time frame otherwise it will switch to 'normal' bootloader mode.
That's it!
NOTE:
Do not wonder! You won't be able to read the SD card afterwards on a Windows computer - I just tried it. I guess the procedure above formats the card in a special format, at least Windows tells me that the card is not formatted! So, the draw back is that you can't use the card for other stuff but the ROM IMAGE!
Very nice article. A couple of typos, but overall very well written!
Just out of curiosity, I've seen another thread on making an SD image of a rom, but it indicates you have to be CID Unlocked for it to work. Is that true for this method also (I haven't compared the two)? Just curious as that is an important piece of information (either way) to make note of... So if someone with a CID Locked phone could try this, that would be great.
Also curious if this works for G3 and G4 devices.
I can't try it out on a CID locked device since mine is CID unlocked already!
The guide above is for real HTC technicans, so, I guess it should work either way!
If somebody has a still CID locked device: it would be great if you could give it a shot!
Does this uittlity make a ROM image as the OS is NOW (meaning with all tweaks and installs and everything) or just the basic ROM as you would get with a hard reset?
It is not a backup. It will put the factory ROM on SD card.
The actual image with all your 'tweaks and personalization' can be easily backed up to SD card by using SPB Backup or better SPB Clone.
Does this method work for wm6 ROM?I am a vista user
Not sure if the MTTY can connect from VISTA but in gerneral: it should work with any ROM version on your WIZ.
well, can we place our .nbf image file (wm6) on sd card and install it from the sd card?
Not this way! It will create a special formatted FLASH IMAGE from your installed ROM on SD. When you do it you won't be able to use the SD card for data storage until you reformat it again.
I am not sure if somebody came up with a solution for flashing nbf files directly from SD!
The procedure above is still helpful if you just need a backup of your shipped ROM or if you need to reflash an almost dead WIZ or if you have the need to reflash your WIZ on the go without a computer ...
Hi
I have a frozen **** brick which got stuck while upgrading (Dopodp800w) I tried to flash it thru sd card (which containes original nbh file in my doc folder).
When I try to invoke the bootloader it says "searching for sd card" then goes to 3 color band and nothing else happenes
Can you help me
Edit: Working like a champ.
But you need to edit the one in the topic. It dose not work. The one in the screen shot dose.
Thanks.

Great finding Junner!
Can I use "your" rom image to flash "my" phone? Or the image is unique for the one you got the image from?
Could you please investigate with your HTC Technician if this process is valid for both G3s & G4s?
Thanks!
Basically you will be able to use it on any phone!
My problem is that I only had 2 test devices: an European T-Mobile MDA VARIO and a 8125 from Cingular / USA. I could use one and the same image (SD card) on booth devices.
I have no CID lock and also no SIM lock on both devices, so, I can't give you a feedback on what happens if your device is locked.
Maybe somebody else has still a locked device and is willing to give it a try before unlocking? (But please somebody with experience! I won't be responsible if you brick your device! )
Is there any way I can take the Flash Image from the SD and convert it to nb file?

Hmmm, you would have to figure out first in what format the SD card is formatted. Afterwards you might be able to find an application which can extract the file(s) from the card.
I did not want to digg deeper than I had to, it was only importand to me that I can flash from SD when ever I cross the ocean from USA to Europe. That saves me a lot of 'setting up's' ... ... just flash and load backup!
Not working on CID locked

I tried in a G3 & also in a G4, both CID locked 8125´s. It didn´t work, see attached file for the message I got; looks for me that the CID unlock gives the proper security level to do make the command work. I´ll unlock one of them to see if the result is a different one.
