Interesting AKU article - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

fredisco in the Wizard upgrading forum posted a link to a very interesting look at the Windows Mobile AKU series on mobile-review http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/articles/wm-aku-en.shtml
Some of the features would be very welcome, improvements to Bluetooth and Wifi (WPA2 support). Of course some of these items are already being enjoyed on the Blue Angel and Universal courtesy of resident rom guru's like Cmdr Ivan and Helmi_C and others. I did see some of these improvements myself with my BA but because of the beta status some of the features didnt work or were missing. But they really enhanced the device's functionality and I am looking forward to an upgrade for the TyTN.
The TyTN is currently on AKU 2.3, I wonder how long it will take and if HTC actually plan to release AKU 3 for the TyTN and its other current phones. Hopefully we will see this very soon.
One thing i thought i'd mention - the article mentions accessing folders in the inbox without using the stylus but that is possible now. Check out the Go to option from the right soft key in POutlook.

AKU Release 3
Hi, thank you for the link.
It makes interesting reading.
I take it the AKU 3.0 has been released

The only official release of AKU3 is for the iDO here http://www.ido-users.net/index.php?showtopic=13. So its possible that at least HTC will release it since they are in control of their own devices now.

I was reading it myself last night. With its improved A2DP stack, AKU3.0 would sure be the trick for the TyTN's problems. Wouldn't it be amazing if this AKU is the TyTN rom update that HTC plans on releasing in a week or two....

It would be good if that is what is released, I think the last official rom release for the Wizard was 2.3 so lets hope HTC kicks off with a higher version.

WM2005 for Magician?

Are there any plans from distrubutors of the Magician to release WM2005?
Or is will be there any unofficial release like on the Himalaya?
As it was written probably A MILLION TIMES in this forum:
NO, there are no plans to offer WM2005 officially on Magician.
NO, currently there are no known plans of some unofficial source to offer WM2005 on Magician.
HOWEVER: When WM2005 comes for Magician, you could easily find the information using the SEARCH function of this board.
BTW: What do you need WM2005 for? Is it so much better? Has it less bugs than mature WM2003SE?
Didnt mean to hit a nerve there, was just a simple question...
Even if we found a way it would be a pain in the *ss cos it wouldn't fit in the amount of ROM. Face it: the Magician is too small!
The Qtek S110 is a different story tho...
it will fit, as W2005 will be released for Dells and HPs with same ROM size(64MB)
Hoping somebody will cook it for magician

I hope you made same brilliant remark to all the HTC Typhoon users?? who will never ever recieve a official w2k5 rom! but are all playing with w2k5 now. It is very well possible that HTC has already made a rom available with w2k5 we don't know it's up to the providers to release it for the magician, but I guess your right they never will. Maybe next time it's more helpfull to say nothing then to point someone out the search function, because this i a forum for a bunch of wackos who try to do the impossible with their phones hehe
I'm waiting for the next Magician sized device with WM5.0, so far the only thing I've heard about is the ETEN m600 (or was it 700).
It will happen soon enough when the next devices become available. I don't see them releasing it on this one though. There is already a 128MB one on its way and the spec for that still says WM2003.

Touch by HTC, so yes
Update
How and when can i update my device???
How: Via USB ... Ok ok, I think it will be same way we do now with the ROM upgrade utility, but probably packaged in some installer like most of the official upgrades.
When: 6.1 just got announced, its up to HTC and the mobile operators to decide when they release an upgrade.

At Least I'm Running Custom Rom with WM 6.1 Pro already =D
custom cooked roms
Hi all,
I just bought a touch 1 gen ... i heard from a friend that it'll take awhile because HTC has a tendency to release it after they have marketed all their new 6.1 loaded devices ... i guess its their marketing strategy
meanwhile, can anyone tell me any interesting 6.1 Roms i can look at ... thanks.
lud
Wait wait wait......so we who own HTC Touch (GSM) have to wait for HTC to ship out the update? We just can't.....update?
Paul
wm 6.1 update
wow .. so basically the update wont be coming for a while ... does anybody know if the 6.1 roms are even worth putting on the device??
Doesn't seem like there's much in the 6.1 upgrade for WM-Pro users though, most changes are in the smartphone version.
I have it too
I use the customer WM6.1 Pro for HTC Touch, and I like it.. there ar a lot of flavors: lite and full, with more (or less) free ram for othr apps, etc.
http://www.comunidadwindowsmobile.es/index.php?action=forum
Whats the difference(s) between WM6 Pro and WM 6.1 anyway? I've done some reading on it but no where does it really say whats so different. I've even gone and looked at videos of it on youtube. Other then what looks like a new skin theme doesnt look like anything else really and I am sure theres more to it. Do you have finger gestures now built right into HTC home? Like swiping left to get to your schedual and what not? What about the HTC home... is that any different?
Here's what I've gotten so far:
Threaded SMS messages
New Internet Explorer
Runs a little smoother
But... whats the big WOW with the upgrade?
Thanks!
ok wm6.1 was in beta for awhile i think it still is but it has since been perfected and is released... but the only way to get it right now is using the customn roms which is way better then using any other rom found any where else trust me ive tried them all and cutoms the way to go!!
and the big wow is the fixed all the bugs in it the stopped the memory leak increased speed. made tit very stable, reduced the size of the os system it self also the did many different registery hacks and edits to make it much better, they added a prgram that is called getting started which helps with alot of stuf and it isnt just a step by step its a good program,
theres no new gestures like that but theres many programs that do that that can be added on such as spb shell 2.0 umm pointui and ultimate lauinch.... trust me its worth upgrading and ive had every system out there wm5.0 symbian wm6.0 and now 6.1 and now im working on making a wm7 like program but using 6.1 as a base
HTC WM 6.1
I have contacted hTC, the WM 6.1 update is not available yet, they are still working out the errors etc. but in a while, they would release the update.
check back http://www.asia.htc.com/asia/hk/index.html
I just leave a sign here so i can easily find it when there is updates.
Also cant just some forum member coock fimmware with all features of HTC for our HTC Touch Elf?

Official 6.1 HTC Rom

Do you think there will ever be an Official 6.1 HTC Rom? 6.1 was released for the TYTNII months ago, and then came all the Diamond/Pro hype. Now that has died down, there's still nothing new for the TC. I suspect HTC has abandoned any dev on pre-Diamond/Pro devices now.
Rumors say, that it will be realeased this month.
For your refernece
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415424
It will help you
In a norwegian site "smartmobil.no" they claim its probably in internal testing, and that it wont be long.
We all know HTC is not actually well known to be punctional..but they have anounced a wm6.1 rom for polaris, and im sure they will release it soon.
when you go to that link in the ELF/TOUCH forum, conserning a update to that device, note that there has never been a official anouncement, unlike the Polaris, about a wm6.1 upgrade for that device.
but hey..dont expect miracles with the shipped/official rom....
but we will have a new base for our roms...

Any Chance for Windows Mobile 6.5 on the Polaris?

Just as the title says. As Microsoft has just release Windows Mobile 6.5 is there any hope that we will get the improved UI to the Polaris?
May HTC even step up to the task themselves? They released 6.0 for a lot of 5.0 phones...
Or are there still cooks active on doing Polaris roms?
probably...yes...

Great news then!!!!!
Thanx for replying
Wow, the wm 6.5 looks very great for the moment!
I'm intrested in your advance!
fantastic!! i hope it will come soon!!!
feels normal...bit faster in some areas (scrolling)...slower in others(startmenu-the honeycomb-due to drivers as far as i've tested)...but overall its good...if you consider its a leak from chinese beta and seems to be incomplete...
i'm waiting for a better leak wm6.5, for now just finding how new things work and making them better (its gonna be goodbye honeycomb menu for me, at least this one, way slow for me )...

I really do not know what the strategy is with launching 2 WM versions in such a short span of time. May be MS was just paranoid of losing market share to iPhone and Google - so it launched a band-aid solution until WM7 is launched?
Any attempt at 6.5 now is mainly for some chef to try and be all cool and be the first one to come out with 6.5 rom. I've tried it, and see no point in releasing something like this as it's buggy (beta) and in all truthfulness, 6.1 w/tf2d is better than 6.5 homescreen. The whole honeycomb screen is quite a waste of screenspace as well. It's all quite the gimick to me, and people would probably end up going back to another rom after a week of using a 6.5 beta rom anyways. The only good thing about 6.5 is the revamped IE.

being the first isn't all that bad i think...would you have some of the things you have now if someone didn't take the 1st step? think not!
yes, you are right, releasing such a rom is still very early, some have, and thanks to them people Now can taste a bit of the Future (some forget its very beta, so lots of bugs)...
i have to desagree, sorry , when you say...only good thing about 6.5 is IE...i would say more...who needs IE? haven't used it since i've had my device...opera or any other good browser (opera mini) is the way to go...
pc experience tells us so
now here are some of my findings...
the new homescreen has lots of potencial...its light and fast...got all the info one needs and only 45% of 101MB of RAM is used...plus it will be customizable (till its limit)...
there is more speed in the wm6.5 rom...or lets say less lagging in some areas...scrolls faster, i see that when i scroll my 4gb memory card using standard explorer...had to disable touchflo cause it was slowing the device down...
skinning of controls will bring a very nice add to customization...i personaly like that...plus they are more thumb friendly...
honeycomb wastes space "as is" but i have already rearranged it in multiple ways (X:Y; 4:Y; 1:Y just to name a few), i dont like it much but its okay...
only major problem here is its current speed that i hope will be better in final release...
its seems a good step ahead...one good thing...i haven't had that "oh, this is so slow" phrase yet as the (programs folder) is not there anymore...so no more laggy icon update...that is always nice...i have a nice fix for that (youtube) but now i will not put it out since 6.5 is comming so its delayed till further notice
there is also a very nice lockscreen too...
lets just see where this goes...
keep up the good work...

Punishment for bringing out an Android phone?
Sorry, didn't see your posts above that you were releasing a 6.5 rom. Hopefully with tweaks by someone knowledgable, the beta will be closer to decent. And you make good points that maybe more than just IE is good, but I'd still rather wait to base a rom on official 6.5

No 1.6 from HTC for HERO?

Swedish android site swedroid.se published a little snippet from a members communication with HTC about 1.6 for HERO.
Dear HTC customer,
The Hero will not be receiving the Android 1.6 upgrade, it will however get the 2.0 one. Do note however that we do not have a confirmed release date for this upgrade, all I can recommend at the moment is that you keep yourself updated by visiting our website regularly as the latest information will be available to view from there.
Best regards,
HTC customer support team

If we get 2.0 not to far from now I really won't miss 1.6 either really. Kernel sources + 2.0 in a not so distant future is acceptable if 1.6 is not released. Thoughts?
Really????
I was looking forward to the release of 1.6 for my Hero!
Ah well, roll on Android 2.0, Hopefully this will be very soon.
I wont miss 1.6, i'd rather get 2.0 and skip donut all together.
2.0 gets free google nav software
Hmm - i prefer small incremental updates.
2.0 will be atleast 2(?) months off?
maybe, i think by christmas...wouldn't that be nice
1.6 was a nice to have, but 2.0 looks like it's going to improve quite a few. Lets hope they get it out soon, looks like the Moto Droid is already running 2.0 - released Nov 6th.

Thx for this update. I was in contact with HTC via email recently (about 2 weeks) and at this time they told me they don't know yet if an updated ROM based on 1.6 will be released (and when).
Today I wrote them again regarding 2.0 (before I saw this thread), so I'll keep you up to date here as soon they get back to me ...
...then I waiting Android 2.0
Is good.
This is also confirmed on the HTC Twitter feed.. http://twitter.com/htc
is this going to be for gsm again and no cdma?!
