This might be a simply one all being well, but if someone mails me and attachs a JPG file I try and view it but it won't let me, do I need a utility to be able to do this?

It should automatically open the pictures and videos application - at least it does on mine.
Perhaps the file association has been removed - think an app like resco explorer or total commander can restore it.

..thanks matt. I'm using Blackberry Connect so I was wondering if that was causing the problem, but I'll take a look at those apps you've mentioned.

I seem to be able to view the Microsoft attachements, it just doesnt seem to like jpgs. I'm still finding my feet with the device though to be honest, the Blackberry Connect software seems simple enough.
...one problem that is annoying is that I cant surf the Web using Internet Explorer. Our providor says its because we're on a Blackberry Tariff and 02 don't give you web access with that. If I try and go to a site on the device it fails to connect.

I much prefer agile for msn anyway so dont realy need pocket msn anyway.
Any help would be appreciated.

Its in the Windows folder and some thing like msnmsgr.exe - can't tell you for sure as I dont have it with me.
Just to finish off I placed a copy in the start menu and removed from the today screen the pocket MSN thing.

Thanks for the repsonses.
I did a hard reset and didnt start the pocket msn software, so it didnt create a hotmail inbox. I've removed it from the program icons.
The messenger software is called instmsgr.exe but if you use that it still creates the hotmail inbox.
Cheers
i too would like to know how to use msn without it making the hotmail inbox. also i'd like to get rid of the outlook email one but i could live with that staying but 2 inboxes i dont use starts to get anoying
I just use agile messenger which is free and does the same job. In fact it goes one better by including AOL, ICQ and yahoo messenger.

I simply made a shortcut in SPB Pocket Plus to a file called..... instmsrg.exe which is in the Windows folder.
To get rid of the mailbox, i guess you could hard reset, create the shortcut to instmsgr.exe then never open the Pocket MSN so the mailbox never gets made. As suggested above.

as shah said it still creates the hotmail account as soon as you sign in using the msn software. oh well guess i'll just have to use a 3rd party app for instant messaging
dean
right figured out how to remove it. go into settings / memory and stop msn and messaging. (this'll stop you having to reset)
load up a reg editor, I used resco explorer. goto HKLM/software/microsoft/inbox/svc then rename the "hotmail" key to "-hotmail" exit resco and press the power button to standby your device and save the reg changes. now if you go into messages the hotmail will be gone.
i've only just figured this out so not sure if there are any minor side effects, let me know if you notice any.
Thanks
That seems to do the trick.
Need just to decide whether to use agile or instmsgr ... The latter integrates better with the os but I think I read somewhere that it uses more data so higher gprs costs ???
I just tried this on the new rom, and it denied me access to the whole messaging package.
No Texts, nothing.
So I'm just undo-ing the change.
How can I get rid of the process called pMSNServer.exe which takes up around 300KB of my precious RAM??

Not to be contrary, but pMSNServer.exe should only be using 56kb of resident memory. I haven't seen it run since I did the following from a few posts up (though I deleted the whole key rather than renaming it):

I already deleted that key as well - I don't have the MSN Inbox in my MobileOutlook...
However, the pMSNService.exe is still running and takes up around 300KB...
which app you use to see how much space does the msn program use when running ?
thanx
I am using SKTools, but there are also many other memory managers...

Dear Lutzh,
I ran this cab on my Toshiba G900 WM6P PPC phone, to remove WLM, and it asked where to install, I chose Storage Card. Now on card I have folder Tools with a file CeSetup in it which does not have a file association. In Add/Remove programs I have nothing new that can be removed. In /windows I still have the WLM files. Did I do something wrong, what should I do next?
Thank you in advance
Hi all,
Firstly, WOW what a handset! This has to be the best HTC handset yet!
Anyway, on to my problem/request...
Is there a way to enable loading of images in the email messages on my handset? At the moment, I get empty windows with a red "x" in them.
Thanks all!
Wayne
there should be an 'internet pictures blocked' message at the top of it. click on that to allow them and you should see the images.

Duh! Thanks!
Is there a way (perhaps a reg edit) that will allow this by default? I have got the amount of data downloaded set to a minimum so not bothered about the size of the email. Would just be nice to get the images by default.
Once again, thanks!
Just replying to this to keep it fresh. Not sure what replies I'll get if this moves too far down the list
Not ever found such a reg key to allow this.... it's a right royal pain in the ass.
Only work around Ihave ever found is to use a 3rd party application like Flexmail by Webis - http://www.webis.net/products_info.php?p_id=mail
(But I don't use it myself as I find it a little unwieldly with my Corporate ActiveSync integration)
If you use a third party mail checker, does it integrate into TF3D and S2U2 like the default mail software?
Enable e-mail images by default?

Failing that is there an alternative e-mail client?

Well, no, I click on that, tries to (?) download images, still no images...
Same with the RSS hub reader... no images whatsoever.
IE and Opera running smoothly (with images ), so it's not a problem with the Internet access...
Thanks for help
(currently on Miri's WinMo 6.5 ROM (latest Premium 7.3 release), but same behaviour on Dutty's and others)
This is a long standing issue with Windows Mobile.
Microsoft "claim" its a security "feature". I still remain unconvinced. Since when have Microsoft been bothered about my security?
;-)
Hi Guys,
My Xperia is hooked up to my company's Exchange server. Some people have been emailing me with some attachments lately and it seems that some strange things happen when I click on some attachments.
If the attachment is an image, it gets opened and I see it. That's great.
However, doc files seem to be a problem. Some just open (great), others show "downloading" (the attachment icon changes with a green bar on it), the download progress bar finishes, the icon for the attachment changes back, and then..... nothing.
This seems especially common on "docx" files and "xlsx" files. I thought these were supported by Office Mobile (in fact I thought it FORCED saving in docx etc).
Can anyone tell me what's going on? I'm getting fed up of being teased by my iPhone using colleagues
Thanks
I don't know exactly but aren't docx files the latest Office Vista files? I think my Office 2003 can't open them and maybe Office mobile can't too?
Yes, you're right. It's office 2007 format but I was specifically told that WM6.1 would handle them.
The other weird thing is that it doesn't even offer to save the attachment to the filesystem for viewing later on via a PC over USB

Press&Hold the stylus on the attachement.
It will give you menu options (with save) without opening file.
.docx is a Vista doc format.
To read it better to use 3rd party software.
I have tried pressing and holding over the attachment but I just get a blank menu - one item high - but with no text. When I select the one entry, the menu just disappears.
I'm using the Vodafone R2A ROM. Can anyone else test to see if the attachment menu works?
Hmm, it seems pressing and holding the stylus over a doc file (ie a file which opens fine) gives me a "save as", but when doing it over an "unknown" file (ie "docx"), I get a blank menu with no save as and clicking on the empty menu does nothing - so this looks like intended behaviour. Really crap imho, I should be able to save a file to the memory stick if I want, even if the phone can't do anything with it.
Yeah, strange.
In fact all the .docs should be saved as .doc. I mean .docx format is still not widely supported, so can your company just change it?
Anyway, it's better to use a 3rd party app for this...
Yeah, I'll recommend they change but it's going to be hard persuading that many people

Right....I will check soon some other software for it...
docx and xlsx ARE supported on the X1
Although you'll find most of your customers and friends don't have support for it on their machines.
You can make your phone save files as .doc by default instead of .docx by going in to Word -> Menu -> Options... -> Default template: Word 97-2003 Document (.doc)
However not sure why Exchange isn't allowing you to save the .docx or open them.
As an update, I use Seven for my push email with Gmail.
Just sent a .docx file to my phone and it was able to download and then open the file in Word Mobile.
Thank you. You've just confirmed what I had always been told (part of the reason I got an Xperia).
It's really frustrating!
Sounds like a problem with your exchange server.
I don't use one so can't really help but I have sent and received docx files to my X1 with ease.
How about trying a different email client such as flexmail (webis) it's commercial but very good and supports imap.
there's a trial available so it might be worth seeing if that works.

I just installed the facebook app... Although it looks quite nice, it seems to have a major problem with the comments: For example, if several people comment on my (or a friend's) status update, only the uppermost comment is shown. You do not even know that other comments exist!
Since FB is a social networking tool, and the comments (and the "likes" for that matter, which also seem not be supported) are a fundamental way to communicate within it, the app will be of no use unless these issues are addressed. I do not know whether there is a newer version of FB for mobile available soon, but this one unfortunately is of no use to me...

I upload from my TD2 by email - see http://www.facebook.com/mobile/?ref=pf. Just click on 'send my upload email to me now' and you will be given a dedicated email address.
To send photos, tap the envelope icon in the TD2 album and enter the email address. Whatever you put in the subject line of the email then appears as the photo caption.
Use ShoZu for uploading, gives you a popup immediatly when you've snapped a photo, "upload to facebook?".
Use FB integration for other FB-use. (search forum: "Facebook integration, what is it and how to get it back")

Please advice.

I am using KeePassDroid.
It is open source and FREE.
It has desktop version too.
Yes, good application, but not very flexible,I' ve tried it before buying other app.

I think SplashID is a good app, but it is too expensive for me at $10 + $20 (desktop version), just for password management.
KeePass is FREE the desktop one is also FREE.
But yeah, there is no sync tool that works OFFLINE.
However, KeePass has sync plugin using online storage like DropBox, etc:

Or you can simply do like this:

Synching, wirelessly, for free ...

eWallet have released a viewer for Android, so if you've got the desktop eWallet you can sync with your Desire. I think eWallet is about $20.
I dont like this eWallet approach because most of the time I will use my phone to add/update entries (work related).
Then go home and sync it with the desktop, mainly for backup.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. With my diamond I updated everything on that then sync'd with the PC, but I've got so much in setup already this is the simplest / quickest option.
We could just create a "batch file" that copy the database (.kdb) from the phone sd card to the desktop (replacing the desktop .kdb).
This way, the desktop will always be synced in a "cheap" way.
Or we can create 2 batch files, to copy the other way around
Yupe, batch file, put in the desktop ... 1 click and you are done.

Thanks for the suggestions. SPB Wallet is unfortunately not a solution for everyone, is anything?. Here's info you should know before purchasing as i did. Finding help with the program is difficult if at all possible. The user's manual is nearly useless, it ignores several features and there is no step by step or tutorial that i can find. For example, i was able to get the program to attach a txt file to a card (something that is a workaround as i didn't want to spend a week typing all my passwords into fields). Great! unfortunately that's all it does, the file is not secured & it can't be opened by the program. Why would i want to attach a file to a wallet and it not be secure? If it is possible it's all but impossible to find instructions on how to do it on the web or SPB's web site. As a workaround i tried to copy and paste to the card's 'notes' field, stymied again, the program truncated my 22k text file. Be aware this program is not without it's faults. I will try some of the suggestions here in an effort to find a solution to securing a small txt file.
Tom
Does anyone know a way to change the fields in keepass Droid so you can save cards and bank account info etc?
