Blackberry Software for HTC device from T-Mobile Germany

Today, we got a mail, that T-Mobile germany released backberry software for HTC-Devices:

Strange, it behaves the same as the previous BB Connect released by T-Mobile for MDA Vario.
Simply does not work....

i installed the Blackkberry software on PPC and on Desktop and its working fine.
I can setup filters on Desktop Software and alle mails will be pushed to my Universal.
The only bad thing is the battery time - I guess that I will need power every day and rechachge the battery
How long does your universal stay without recharge of the battery?

i have installed the desktop program but when i try to run it, it detects an error claiming that a connection with the mail server could not be established.
Do I need MS server installed? I only have a normal home PC with windows xp home ed.

I use Blackberry Push with an exchange server and own Blackberry Sever in our company.
This is how I setup my connection:
- I have an Outlook connection to my exchange server working.
- Active Sync is working.
- Install BB Software on PDA
- Install BB Software on Desktop
- Started BB Software form Settings -> Instant Mail and choose what kind of service do you want: Blackberry Solution (You have an own Blackberry Server) or Instant Email with Blackberry (to use the blackberry server of your provider). I choosed "Blackberry Solution"
- Restart Blackberry Software
- Start Your Blackberry Desktop Software, choose your Outlook Profile and Create Your Own Security Key. Your BBPin will be displayed from your PDA. If not connection doesn't work.
- Create Your filter and save all to your PDA
- If you have GPRS enabled and all works fine, you Blackberry software will connect and get your first results.
That's the way, it's working on my universal.
To save your battery live, turn of UMTS and use GPRS. You can turn it off in settings -> Telephone.
You don't need it for Blackberry service.

How does this save battery power? surely the BB uses the same amount of power to stay connected to 3G as it does to GPRS??? and of course it downloads quicker using 3G

Hi,
I don't know how it saves your battery - it's my experience that I can stay more than one day without 3G and BB. With switched on 3G, I need every day power.
I guess that the 3G part of your telephone is switched off and that saves power, like if you turn off WLAN or Bluetooth.

Heres an answer to my own question, the power saving is probably down to the reduced amount of searches carried out to locate a UMTS connection, my phone constantly hops between GPRS and UMTS depending on coverage, each time it has to re-register hence using more power and sending more data to the network. I havent tried the GPRS Only option yet, I may give it a go next week when I'm on the road..

Do you need a specific ROM to use this software?

Do you know when blackberry software will be avaible for mda compact 2 ?

The BB Connect software seems to be tied into the Service provider, there are 2 profiles, in the TMob one, email and BB Enterprise, I use the latter, the email one is hard coded for TMob bb servers.
O2 said they were going to ship a BB Client but wouldnt commit to a date.
The TMobile ROM is Old (Pre AKU2) BUT, it works, it pairs with my Parrot 3400LSGPS, it runs TomTom5.2 fine, the only downside is the gay pink video button. I do however have to reboot it a couple of times a day, and the BB Connect sometimes loses all will to live and forces me to reboot.

BB Connect on Cingular (EXPLAINED!)

THis is the only way as of this date that I have found to get Blackberry Services for BES to work on my wizard. Im sure there is little difference in setting up BB for BIS.

3. Run--> "RUU_Prodigy_2170702....exe" Follow prompts till finished. (Upon reboot you should see the QTEK logo on your Wiz Screen)
4. Go thru the Standard Screen alignment tests and so on till you get to your Palmtop (Avoid synchronizing MS ASync till the last step)
5. After Unzipping "Cingular_2.25.11_Radio_only.zip" Run--> "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe" Follow Prompts till finished. (Complete the handheld tests)
6. Next, Run--> BBConnect_Pocket_PC_BB_2.1.2.16.exe (You should see it install the Blackberry Service.cab onto your handheld)
7. Just hit next a few times and ok, out of the BB configuration screens as we will be configuring that later.
8. Be sure you have an account on your BES before continuing.
9. Install ActiveSync_BBConnect_Desktop_Setup_2.1.1.9.exe. Follow the prompts. When the install is done you should have a PIN.
10. Hit Connect on in BBConnect to recieve your service book from BES
11. On Your Handheld goto-> start-> Settings-> Connections-> Connections-> My ISP (Add Modem)-> Choose "New"
12. Name it anything. Under "Select Modem" Choose-> Cellular Line (GPRS) then click Next
13. Under "Access Point Name" type: blackberry.net (then choose next)
14. There is no Username and Password so leave it blank. Click the "Advanced" button-> Check "Use IP header compression"-> then hit "ok"-> choose "Finish"
15. Hit OK, out to your palmtop.
Unplug your handheld form your PC and give it a few minutes to connect. Soon you should be sending and recieving Corporate email as if you were using a Blackberry.
I have one problem with this. I still cant browse the internet. Anyone know the Proxy settings for RIM's network?

It does not work with BB Connect client

TMO Radio ROM
After a long conversation with a few Cingular techs (not that this is good advice) on this subject we determined that it would be possible for you to use the Cingular radio ROM.
Just be aware that service providers outside of the US use a radio spectrum that is different from ours. This means that a Radio ROM from the wrong country could cause irrepairable damage to the radio in your phone.
It should be relatively safe to use a 'same spectrum' ROM without any worries.
US to US = safe. US to UK = not so safe

Applied the radio. it does work on TMO.
Unfortunately the BB Connect client still does not. It tries to establish a connection, gets an IP address and shows "data tunnel available" for a brief moment, then disconnects.
This is frustrating !

BB Connect
Are you sure you have a completely SIM unlocked and CID Unlocked phone and are using the Qtek 2.17 ROM ?
Here is how you can tell your phone is completely unlocked and you are using the right ROM... (I had this same problem too)
Turn your phone off.
Turn back on.
The first screen you see should be ALL White and have the 'HTC Inovation' logo on it.
The next screen will have your ROM Versions and have the QTEK logo on it.
If you dont get that on boot up then you need to CID Unlock your phone.

BB Connect
Once you CID Unlock your phone you should reload the QTEK 2.17 ROM and Radio ROM

Yes, I totally unlocked the phone.
However, I am not running the Qtek ROM but the TMO ROM (2.26) with the Cingular radio. I am trying to figure out which ROM/Radio combo will work on teh TMO network.
Does this QTek rom have MSFP and stereo Bluetooth ?

Thanks for this. I've used the ROM/Radio combinations and have a working BB connect (via BES) on by Wizard. However, after bricking my last phone (G4 phone) trying to get BB connect working with the older ROM solution, I took some precaution this time around, and cooked a custom nk.nbf containing just the QTEK ROM & extended rom & the cingular radio (ie, without IPL/SPL). This also means that it does not matter if your phone is G4 and is not CID unlocked for this process to work unless you are running a very new IPL/SPL. Happy to post this if anyone wants it (and if I can work out how to).
Another point of note is that I did not need to set up the modem/access point/GPRS connection. The BB connect client worked without this.
For those interested, I had a working (older) BB connect on an XDA II, and all I did was upgrade the phone, install BB connect, install the new desktop software and connected. The desktop software picked up I had another PIN and asked whether I wanted to update (which I did), and all worked after that. One point to note is that the BB connect client was unstable with PIM (calendar) sync enabled (probably due to the large number of appointments I had). I hard-resetted, and re-set up BB connect without PIM and this has worked for the past week or so.

I now have BBConnect working with my companies enterprise server and I am using Vodafone contract and HTC Wizard.
Last week I was using the Molski custom ROM (fantastic ROM btw) and for the love of god BBconnect would not connect. I would connect for a second or two and then disconnect.
On Monday I installed the latest Vodafone UK ROM that is posted on the FTP server. Reinstalled the Vodafone supplied software for BBConnect and Desktop SYNC, and then connected the phone up to my laptop and exchanged PINS using the supplied Desktop SYNC (BBCONNECT) software supplied my Vodafone.
My GPRS Modem setting is web.vodafone.de (I am based in Cologne) You dont need to enter blackberry.net
Disconnected phone from laptop and all works fine. If anyone wants more info, please let me know.

I would expect that it would work as the 2.x roms should work on G3 & G4 phones, but I do NOT have a G3 phone to test this. I'll try to upload the files tomorrow when I am at work.

The BB Connect client transmits the phone type (Wizard), Rom version & radio version to RIM, and this is checked against the officially supported combinations. This has been well known since v1 of the BB Connect client (which I used to use on my XDA II).
It has been shown that there are certain combinations will work, and as the exact mechanism and "rules" that RIM uses to check against isn't known, all we can do is either use an "official" combination (eg, German Rom + German BB Connect client), or use a combination that have been discovered (such as the one posted in this thread).
To further illustrate this, when I had my XDA II, using the official UK rom with BB Connect V1 client, I upgraded the BB Connect client to a V2 one that was supported on the XDA Mini, and RIM blocked my PIN after a minute or so. Mail flowed again when I downgraded back to the official BB Connect V1 client.

Titus - do you think version 1 of Blackberry Connect would work better than the current version on the Cingular 8125? If so, do you know where I can find that version? I'm having the problem where it won't get around "Blocked - Radio In Use".

I think the V2 client works better.
The V1 client worked as long as I kept deleting the mail and kept it under approx 200 mail. More than that and the BB client starts playing up and chews up CPU on the device making it practically unusable.
The V2 client has worked well for me for email. However, when I first installed I enabled the PIM/calendar function, and it was great. But it stops working properly after a soft reset, the device starts playing up with (similar to V1 client). My guess is that the issue with both V1 & V2 clients are with the number of items, and in my case my calendar has a horrendious number of entries. V2 client has worked great since I hard reset, reinstalled and did not enable PIM. I use the device with BB on all the time, I use windows media player to play music, I use the phone often, and I hardly ever reset the phone.

I've been trying to upload but I don't seem to be having any luck with ftp'ing the file up. I logged in as [email protected], and it tells me I can't put a file to /Uploads/Temp for some reason...

Blackberry Connect on Tytn?

Hello Guys,
I'm stucked....I'm trying to install the BB client on my PDA. I'm a T-Mobile user and i'm using the sw's are supported by them..... they are trying to tell me that my hw is broken......Tell me if it can be true that a hardware which is capable for BB connection is working only under the OS which is published by the Operator????
for me it seems it will be the case but as I have a HTC PDA I do not want to Downgrade my OS to the T-Mob. one which I do not like......
I've found already one thread at the Wizzard site which is very similar to my case....

What error messages are you getting?

The situation is the following:
After I'm inst. the BB client on the PDA I can see at the Service TAB:
service: Blocked- activesync connected.
Even if I'm trying to use the BB_DeskConn. sw. there is no result on the sync progress... no error msg. exactly what I can share you. The desktop sw is getting my BB_PIN so there is an up and running service.
If I'm trying to connect over the GPRS connection there is no IP signed by the provider PDA is loosing the IP immediatelly (AFAIK the first sync must be done via the PC).
My Operator does not have any idea about it they say I mightg have to use their provided OS.....my operator is T-Mobile. It is nonsense taht is why I've bought an unsigned tool.

Even if I'm trying to use the BB_DeskConn. sw. there is no result on the sync progress... no error msg. exactly what I can share you. The desktop sw is getting my BB_PIN so there is an up and running service.
If I'm trying to connect over the GPRS connection there is no IP signed by the provider PDA is loosing the IP immediatelly (AFAIK the first sync must be done via the PC).
My Operator does not have any idea about it they say I mightg have to use their provided OS.....my operator is T-Mobile. It is nonsense taht is why I've bought an unsigned tool.

What does the BB client status show when you are not connected to activesync?

try to connect via GRPS for 10 sec than says not connected. IP for certain sec's and than nothin'

Offical answer by the Operator in Hungary is the following:

There are specific ROM/OS version, Radio version & BB connect version that will work, and generally unless the operator you are with supports BB connect, they wouldn't even point you towards another operator/provider's ROM/OS, so I think they are already doing you a favour...

yeah I can imagen that is what I'm looking for! Is that an idea if i'm gonna install a NON HTC version than or the cab inst. of the Operator is enough?

I've tested with a T-MOb ROM no result same error nothing happens the device cannot connect to the BB service. Anybody any idea?

If you have a not locked PDA than DO NOT use the Operator Provided BB connector i won't work.
For me the case is closed answer is:
BlackBerry connect 2.1.2.16 which is avaliable on the FTP

I have XDA Trion, never locked, with the newest HTC firmware, Blackberry connect from this FTP, but it still doesn't connect. Says Radio is Off.

which version of BB? b/c in my case BB 2...20 was not okay but the 2....16 was. Maybe your and my cases are different...

WM6 DUN Connection PDA 2 PDA

Hello, downloaded many great ROMS from the site and have just 1 ickle issue with WM6
Have a Artemis (MDA Compact III) and a Elf (MDA Touch) both running Windows mobile 6. My artmeis is using tomtom and unable to get live updates / traffic reports as the simcard slot is buggered so no GPRS connection. So Idea was too use my Elf to share the connection via GPRS using BT but no luck. Tried the BT DUN cab which did show DUN as a service on my Artemis. Added a new network connection setting, dial up as *99# but nothing is happening when launching a webpage - shows dialing *99# but connection keeps failing.
Hope someone can help

At the risk of sounding silly, the o2 orbit has a 2 year warranty, would it be possible just to get it replaced in an o2 store? (I don't think they've been out 2 years yet?)

handset not faulty ...this is due to the device no longer providing D.U.N as a service due to it being WM6 - basically I need to share my internet connection from 1 PDA to another

doesn't DUN require an active sim card to work tho?
saying that, i just had a quick look and i can make a new connection and select bluetooth as the modem type, unfourtantly i don't have another pda to try, but if its paired with another device would you be able to use the modem on the other device? or is that what you've been trying to do?
I only suggested the warranty as you mentioned the sim card slot was buggered, didn't mean to sound sarcastic! also was about to suggest wifi as an option but then realised that mda compact doesn't have wifi ...

Have you tried this ? I use it to access the web with a WM2003SE device to a WM6 device via bluetooth. I tried all of the other suggested methods/hacks and this is the only thing that works for me.

Hrmm i've been trying to play a multiplayer game via bluetooth with wm6 and found it impossible, is it possible to create a serial connection between to wm6 phones?

Problem is simple - have 2 wm6 devices, MDA Compact III has GPS which I use for TOMTOM but use my simcard in the touch as my phone (prefer to use it for making calls etc), Dont want to keep swapping my sim just to get traffic updates ...

i'd be curious as well. there are a few threads on this, and it seemed like nobody got it to work on the touch cruise (though people have gotten it to work on their touch).
out of curiosity, why are people choosing to use blackberry connect rather than direct push through exchange? i find that my push is not 100% reliable and considered using blackberry connect to fix this. does anybody else have that dilemma?

Sadly, blackberry is the 'corporate standard', so I am stuck with it.
I have managed to get the Blackberry Connect client 4.0.0.97 to work 100% reliably on HTC touch p3450 with an HTC release ROM. As soon as you load a tweaked or cooked ROM the Blackberry Connect stops working.
Sadly the XDA Orbit 2 comes with an o2 cooked rom so it wont work with that, I have a call in to o2 support but I wont hold my breath

From what I have read here a lot of people have problems.
I´ve successfully installed 4.0.0.97 of the Polaris with Bepes 0.58 Full German, eventhough the first installation required a compleate reset:
The HTC also connects to the server, but I get an error as my current user has been rejected. I do believe that our IT Admin needs to allow me to use the Blackberry function..... or am I still doing something wrong?
Unforunately I´ve noticed that the PDA has slowed down somewhat after installing the Blackberry connect

To get connected, you can talk to your IT amdin, but you don't need to if you also install the Blackberry Connect for Windows Mobile DESKTOP software. What that lets you do is obtain and assign a PIN to your Polaris/BBC setup. Its a security measure to tie your phone with your email account. Install BBC for WM desktop on a PC that has access to your email account (i.e. Outlook connecting to your Exchange server), then run the program. It generates a PIN, assigns it to your phone within BBC on the phone, then you should be good to go. Of course, you can talk to your IT guy otherwise.
And the slowdown is what I mentioned in the other forum. BBC uses LOTS of CPU, memory, and thus, battery.

If it connects then disconnects that is because you're using a non-release ROM (cooked).
On a succesful install of 4.0.0.97 you will see after reset a connection even if you havent configured desktop, it is required for the desktop proggie to do its work.

are u saying the ver 4.0.0.97 will work n you have it on your cruise?

I have not been able to get it to work and I have the stock HTC ROM. I'm not aware of anyone who's been able to get Blackberry Connect to work on this device. Check out this thread for others in the same boat:

I don´t think it would be related to the cooked Rom. I believe that it tries to get allowance from the server and then is rejected since I never had a blackberry so far with this company. Unforunately I still can´t confirm 100% since the our IT has not responded to my query.
In the meantime I have removed the BBconnect and use an Outlook Webmail connection via Seven (thanks for jomo25) which is very FAST and is not so hard on the CPU like BBConnect. I also believe its a lot easier to install.

Yeah I don't think it has anything to do with the ROM. There seems to be an issue with the TC connecting to the Blackberry server and I have no idea why. That thread I sent earlier contains some theories on the topic. The BC software is a resource hog for sure.
Assuming you're using BC to connect to Coporate Mail (Enterprise) you can always try Microsoft Direct Push instead of Blackberry Connect to get to the Exchange server. A less optimal path would be to use IMAP to connect to the Exchange server. Then you would lose Push mail functionality

Here's what I posted last: Seven is a "competing product" to BB's suite. If you are trying to connect to a BB server, then yes, you'd need BBC. But if you are just trying to get your email delivered, whether it be personal, POP3, IMAP, or you corporate email (Exchange) and you are behind a firewall, then Seven has a solution for you. Some more elegant than others. But it works. For me, it's the only option since we do use Exchange, behind a firewall, with no OWA externally accessible and BBC's software is very juice hungry.
As for getting BBC to work. Without knowing your exact setup, its hard to know what the issue is. First, make sure you are on the right data plan. I.e. for AT&T you MUST be on one of their BB data plans. Otherwise, you won't be able to get to the blackberry.net APN needed. Then, make sure you have the BBC for WM software installed on your phone and PC. (There are 2 programs, one for each) Then, connect your phone to the PC as in ActiveSync. Run the PC's program. You should notice that ActiveSync connection is severed, and the BB program should find the phone. Then go to assign a PIN and it should. Then it shoudl start to pull email to your phone.

Because BBC uses a different APN than all other network access on your phone, and your phone can only connect to one APN at a time, you will not be able to do other things like surf via IE on your phone while you are connected to BBC (another reason it sucks).

@ Rar9, I'm glad Seven is working for you. To be honest, if you can use the Seven software, you might just wanna stick with it. Seriously, BBC is a resource hog and a half as you seem to have experienced. You'll find it tough to go thru a day without battery dying, if your expereicne with BBC was similar to mine. I even have to run Seven's Workgroup Connector (which sends my work mail through my work PC) and I STILL prefer Seven over BBC for that reason. PLUS, you don't have to worry about switching APNs between your carrier's normal Internet gateway and the blackberry.net gateway. And of course th efinal bonus: the BB data packages tend to be MUCH more expensive than the normal data ones (up to 50% price diff with AT&T).
But try it again if you would like. Hope my instructions and links above for BBC help with that.

Ok so let me clarify. I am trying to connect to get my Exchange email through a Blackberry server. Microsoft Direct Push is not an option since IT doesn't enable it on the server. I do have the Blackberry Enterprise (not personal) plan from ATT. I do have the BC software. I do have an activation code from IT. The problem is the phone does not connect to the Blackberry server. Like I mentioned in my previous post if you check out that thread on SEMS others seem to have this issue. I am getting the same behavior this user in the UK is having:
"After installation and Blackberry Setup I get:
PIN pending
IMEI it's ok
IP address No connection
Status/Service Not Connected
By pressing the "register now" button I get Blackberry Edge connection, Status/Service shows Network Available then Data Tunnel Available and finally "Not Connected". During the process I can see an IP address in the Identity screen."

So, just to make sure, you have the desktop PC software also? If so, what happens when you connect the PC to the phone via USB? Doesn't it ask you to move the mouse around to generate a random and unique PIN? Oh, and did you force your phone to only use Edge? I beleive AT&T's connection to the BB APN is still only available via their 2G network, not 3G (not 100% on that last thing, but I do remember it was the case before).

You know, it's been awhile since I tried this, but honestly I remember trying like every permutation. I installed and uninstalled almost every version of BC. I tried it with Edge and/or 3G. I tried using the desktop software to generate the PIN and other times I didn't. I guess I can always try again. Have you gotten it to work on your device?

Not on my Polaris. I haven't tried. I did on my Kaiser and on my Hermes. I had the same issues you describe, til I used the desktop software to gen the Pin. I'd try on my Polaris now, except that I don't have the BB data plan and don't want to go thru the hassle with the AT&T guys again to get it added (esp since I won't keep the BBC software on my phone anyways for the aforementioned issues).
So, it may be that it doesn't work with the Polaris. the new versions of BBC should work, but they may not. If you feel you've tried it and did everything right, then it just may not work as you say.
I definitely don't want to steer you down a dead end. I was just checking to see if you did everything I thought needed to be done. Sounds like you had those bases covered.

I read that the RIM Blackberry Connect was designed to work on Release / RTM versions of Windows mobile and has been coded to prevent it logging on via the global BES if the ROM is unsigned or if the device name is not in the list of allowed devices.
I can prove this using my trusty P3450. When loaded with a vanilla WWE RTM ROM Blackberry Connect 4.0.0.97 works fine. Load a cooked ROM and it connects then disconnects. This is the behviour I get on my polaris with its customised o2 ROM.
So it could be a clean ROM problem or it could be that Blackberry just havent allowed the Polaris to connect just yet.

Same behaviour on a cooked ROM on P3450 - exactly the same.

German O2 Orbit 2 will support BBC in May. This is what someone from O2 told me. BBC software sends the PDA ID (Pola200) the OS version and the carrier to RIM. If your PDA is not supported by RIM you'll get " pin pending".
So we have to wait.
