I installed skype but it caused the qtek 9100 to crash randomly and very often. I removed the software, but now almost everytime i come from standby mode i have a notification box that it could not run programs/skype.exe
This is really annoying as I already removed the prog, and I have no clue what is trying to run skype on the phone. How can I check this / remove this?
Thanks.
i´ve the same problem

I had the same problem.
I downloade the most resent version of Skype.
Softreset
Installed Skype.
Softreset
Deinstalled Skype.
Softreset.
Then the trouble disappeared.
Worth a try.
i do it, but i´ve the same problem
check notifications
I had the same problem. Using the software "check notifications" I removed skype.exe and the problem is solved.
The software also increases the performence by removing multiple running processes.

These arent my words, ive just copied and pasted from another pocket pc forum. Maybe it'll help.
Problems like this come from invalid entries in the DB_notify_events WinCE database. You can correct this by hand (if reinstalling & uninstalling Skype doesn't cure it):
1, get Pocket dbExplorer from http://www.phatware.com/hpcdbex.html
2, install and run
3, go to DB_notify_events
4, go to the last entry of the list on the lower half of the screen - the 2nd "TEXT" entry. You'll see the EXE name in the upper half of the screen.
5, press the right arrow until you see a link to Skype.exe.
6, press AT THIS RECORD the Delete button.
Hm, I don't find the DB_notify_events. I wonder if you have to buy the product in order to be able to do this.
I still haven't solved this problem
Is this what one can expect when Microsoft hits the mobile? ...just waiting for the viruses and BSODs to hit.

This worked perfectly for me too, many thanks.
How does getting rid of Skype from Notifications help
Not knocking it, but how does getting rid of Skype from the list of notifications help ?
Not knocking it because it seems to have worked!!
Update: I still got a Skype erro after doing the remove, but since doing a Clear in Check Notify it hasn't re-occurred. Fingers crossed.
Since installing the latest O2 ROM upgrade I found two problems:
1. Alarms and timers (chronos, spb time) don't wake up the machine. I need this feature and this a major problem for me, surely must be also an issue for others.
2. I don't want the battery icon on the top bar, I want just the clock.
Does anyone knows a trick to change for the better any of those, please?
Thanks, Gonz
1) u can install 3rd party Alarm Softwares.
2) search the forum, there is a solution

Really?
Care to post a link? Everything I've read says there is no solution yet.
Look in your startup folder, there is a file that activates the battery icon (I can't rremember what it is called and I don't have it anymore, but I seem to remember it's obvious when you see it).
Delete it (or copy to another safe location) and your battery icon will no longer appear.
OK, it seems my problems are not so simple to solve, after all.
These are the files in my startup folder:
sddaemon, services, theme refresh and voice command.
Could you tell me which one to delete to get rid of the battery icon please?
Uhm…, and what about the problem of timers and alarms failing to wake up the device? Do we have to use the dull Microsoft application?
Thanks

hdubli,
I do have lots of third party software for this purpose and they all fail with the exec wm5, something that did not happen on my xda 2i with any of them.
If you please care to be more explicit with the solutions, I am sure several here would appreciate it.
Thanks, gonz
Alarm
For your alarm problem, check out pTravelAlarm
http://www.burroak.on.ca/wm2005.html
You are looking for version 2.6.0, which is for WM5 - their site claims that it's a trial version, but I've found it to be faultless, even after applying latest O2 ROM.
It's not free and I can't promise it'll work for you, but it's worth a shot.
If I can't leave my Exec plugged into mains overnight, I disable the "Turn device off after..." in Power Settings and it hasn't failed to wake me up yet.
Its volume control isn't linked to your device's, and it's loud enough to put the fear of God in you...[/code]
I am having a similar problem. What you guys dont seem to understand, is, even if there was a $1000 3rd party alarm software, it will be of no use when the phone refuses to wake up.
The problem we have is not of the alarm software, but the simple problem of the phone not waking up, e.g. from standby to ON.
Can someone shed some light on this issue.
Thank You
This forum has not resolved the issue of the battery, hunders if not thousands of people are awaiting some miraculous fix for this. the only thing I know to work is using wizbar to reskin the title bar.
in relation to alarms, sorry, i know the wm5 is a problem. though, the inbuilt alarms that i have used on the device do wake the device up.
the other thing you can try is, dont turn it off, dont allow the system to turn it off after a period of time, and just close the device without turning off.
it will drain a little bit more power, i think approximately 15% over the night than what it would otherwise draing, but if it is plugged in, then it wont drain at all and will ensure the device wakes up.
thanks, it is probably rom related since u report that your device does wake up. Can you tell me what rom version u are using? Thanks

Many thanks, I did try not to switch it off and it works!, even the timers!
my rom is in my signature, unlike yours.
what i was saying was it wakes it up from its sleep, but not its off state.
just closing the clam was sufficient to preserve battery, especially given that at night its always charged. even during the day, i rarely turn it off. i just close the device and let it rest....
Why is the "turn off device if not used for" alway
Does anybody know how to prevent the system from ticking this box every time?
My machine does it on its own, yes, it does, sometimes even after changing from landscaping view to normal.
So, the advice of not turning it off to make the alarms work is OK, but needs constant rechecking that the box remains unticked!!
Thanks,

I would look at your other software that may be enforcing this as it has never happened to me, nor have I read about it.

If you mean Windows\Startup, I have sddaemon, O2 UI Refresh and poutlook.
I have moved them all out (startup folder is empty) and still no luck.

My suggestion unrelated to your problem is to keep "sddaemon.lnk" out of the "start up" folder. If you haven't noticed yet, if you keep sddaemon on the start up folder, after performing a soft reset this file is duplicated under "Notifications" taking up your precious memory and slowing down your machine. You can check it if you have a program that cleans your Notification Que such as "Scary Bear's Check Notification" (freeware).
For the alarm one, does anyone tried using PocketWakeup? The original one is in French, but there is an English version too. Google for it and see if it works on the universal.

Can't think of anything in my PDA that will have that need or ability, it is not an option I've noticed in any program before, but thanks anyway. I'll search around, there must be a solution somewhere
gonzaloblanco1992
you could try reflashing your rom as you are on the older version.

I got the latest, just haven't updated my profile. I found it! It was Phone Alarm, changed to PocketZen and everything is finally OK
I don't know how to stop this but it is driving me crazy
if I get a miss call\sms\email notification
then the phone gives me a little pop up window that says
Notification error
cannot execute
\windows\paWakeup.exe
can anybody help me out
It is related to PocketMax Phone Alarm. I have never figured out why it happens - sometimes when the device boots I get the same error. It might be to do with some aspect of the notification queue being f'd up.
Uninstall PA and the problem will go away - reinstall it and it may or may not happen. sorry not to be much exact help.
Best place to look/search is the Pocketmax Support Forum
Ive seen a few threads mentioning this error. I have never run into this personally but i would recommend uninstalling the app, then reinstalling it. Rebuild your profiles instead of backing them up as it may be a profile thing?!
I am running Pa \
so I will uninstall
and let you guys know what happens thanks
that is what it was
thanks again guys
I keep getting a
cannot execute \windows\nrdwakeup.exe
on wakeup its driving me nuts. Anyone know how to stop this?

Yea I looked, couldn't find anything
It ought to be in your notification queue, not regsitry.

You can use various software..
Check Notification, Scary bear (recommended)
Taskman (aka Task manager)
Memmaid
Pocket Mechanics
Which allows you to explore the notification queue. Just go in, seek and destroy.

Tried taskman but no success. Only shows up when notification is up. I deleted the notification for the queue but it comes back after wakup this is drving me crazy. also tried disable with no success.
Does anyone know what nrdwakeup.exe is even used for?
Looked in notifications, registry cannot find anything about this. Its like that one unnaturally loud cricket that gets into your house somehow fuses with your walls and keeps you up all night without being found... yea like that.
found it: I should have realized it was Novi Remote Delux installed on my storage card. Reinstalled it and that fixed it.
This has happened twice now, the first time I did a hard reset, I don't want to have to o that again to fix this.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there an easy fix?
Do you have some app for reminders?
Same problem here, after using the alarm once, it now goes off at 6.55am whether it's set or not.
I remember having the same problem with the Universal when I first got it, I'm trying to remember the solution.... something to do with clearing the notification queue.
I'll update this when I find the relevant info.
Ok, I think i have solved it, although I won't know for sure until 6.55am tomorrow!
I installed Memmaid, which showed me a list of all the items in the notification queue.
I then deleted all the clock.exe notifications (there were 6) which related to 6.55am - memmaid shows a little info on each notification as you highlight them.
Hopefully this should work - be careful though as deleting the wrong things can apparently break activesync, requiring a hard reset.

Thanks Pantaloonie.
I don't know what to delete. I don't know what the reminder is for (I don't see any text when I hear the sound).
I think it's only happening when connected to Activsync by USB.
I'll monitor it for the rest of today.
Yes, this only happens when connected to AS. I'm using the 4.5 Beta (at work). It seems OK with the 4.5 relase version at home.
Guess I'll have to upgrade AS at work.
