I installed skype but it caused the qtek 9100 to crash randomly and very often. I removed the software, but now almost everytime i come from standby mode i have a notification box that it could not run programs/skype.exe
This is really annoying as I already removed the prog, and I have no clue what is trying to run skype on the phone. How can I check this / remove this?
Thanks.
i´ve the same problem

I had the same problem.
I downloade the most resent version of Skype.
Softreset
Installed Skype.
Softreset
Deinstalled Skype.
Softreset.
Then the trouble disappeared.
Worth a try.

check notifications
I had the same problem. Using the software "check notifications" I removed skype.exe and the problem is solved.
The software also increases the performence by removing multiple running processes.

These arent my words, ive just copied and pasted from another pocket pc forum. Maybe it'll help.
Problems like this come from invalid entries in the DB_notify_events WinCE database. You can correct this by hand (if reinstalling & uninstalling Skype doesn't cure it):
1, get Pocket dbExplorer from http://www.phatware.com/hpcdbex.html
2, install and run
3, go to DB_notify_events
4, go to the last entry of the list on the lower half of the screen - the 2nd "TEXT" entry. You'll see the EXE name in the upper half of the screen.
5, press the right arrow until you see a link to Skype.exe.
6, press AT THIS RECORD the Delete button.
Hm, I don't find the DB_notify_events. I wonder if you have to buy the product in order to be able to do this.
I still haven't solved this problem
Is this what one can expect when Microsoft hits the mobile? ...just waiting for the viruses and BSODs to hit.

This worked perfectly for me too, many thanks.
How does getting rid of Skype from Notifications help
Not knocking it, but how does getting rid of Skype from the list of notifications help ?
Not knocking it because it seems to have worked!!
Update: I still got a Skype erro after doing the remove, but since doing a Clear in Check Notify it hasn't re-occurred. Fingers crossed.

Since installing the latest O2 ROM upgrade I found two problems:
1. Alarms and timers (chronos, spb time) don't wake up the machine. I need this feature and this a major problem for me, surely must be also an issue for others.
2. I don't want the battery icon on the top bar, I want just the clock.
Does anyone knows a trick to change for the better any of those, please?
Thanks, Gonz
1) u can install 3rd party Alarm Softwares.
2) search the forum, there is a solution

Really?
Care to post a link? Everything I've read says there is no solution yet.
Look in your startup folder, there is a file that activates the battery icon (I can't rremember what it is called and I don't have it anymore, but I seem to remember it's obvious when you see it).
Delete it (or copy to another safe location) and your battery icon will no longer appear.
OK, it seems my problems are not so simple to solve, after all.
These are the files in my startup folder:
sddaemon, services, theme refresh and voice command.
Could you tell me which one to delete to get rid of the battery icon please?
Uhm…, and what about the problem of timers and alarms failing to wake up the device? Do we have to use the dull Microsoft application?
Thanks

hdubli,
I do have lots of third party software for this purpose and they all fail with the exec wm5, something that did not happen on my xda 2i with any of them.
If you please care to be more explicit with the solutions, I am sure several here would appreciate it.
Thanks, gonz
Alarm
For your alarm problem, check out pTravelAlarm
http://www.burroak.on.ca/wm2005.html
You are looking for version 2.6.0, which is for WM5 - their site claims that it's a trial version, but I've found it to be faultless, even after applying latest O2 ROM.
It's not free and I can't promise it'll work for you, but it's worth a shot.
If I can't leave my Exec plugged into mains overnight, I disable the "Turn device off after..." in Power Settings and it hasn't failed to wake me up yet.
Its volume control isn't linked to your device's, and it's loud enough to put the fear of God in you...[/code]
I am having a similar problem. What you guys dont seem to understand, is, even if there was a $1000 3rd party alarm software, it will be of no use when the phone refuses to wake up.
The problem we have is not of the alarm software, but the simple problem of the phone not waking up, e.g. from standby to ON.
Can someone shed some light on this issue.
Thank You
This forum has not resolved the issue of the battery, hunders if not thousands of people are awaiting some miraculous fix for this. the only thing I know to work is using wizbar to reskin the title bar.
in relation to alarms, sorry, i know the wm5 is a problem. though, the inbuilt alarms that i have used on the device do wake the device up.
the other thing you can try is, dont turn it off, dont allow the system to turn it off after a period of time, and just close the device without turning off.
it will drain a little bit more power, i think approximately 15% over the night than what it would otherwise draing, but if it is plugged in, then it wont drain at all and will ensure the device wakes up.
thanks, it is probably rom related since u report that your device does wake up. Can you tell me what rom version u are using? Thanks

Many thanks, I did try not to switch it off and it works!, even the timers!
my rom is in my signature, unlike yours.
what i was saying was it wakes it up from its sleep, but not its off state.
just closing the clam was sufficient to preserve battery, especially given that at night its always charged. even during the day, i rarely turn it off. i just close the device and let it rest....
Why is the "turn off device if not used for" alway
Does anybody know how to prevent the system from ticking this box every time?
My machine does it on its own, yes, it does, sometimes even after changing from landscaping view to normal.
So, the advice of not turning it off to make the alarms work is OK, but needs constant rechecking that the box remains unticked!!
Thanks,

I would look at your other software that may be enforcing this as it has never happened to me, nor have I read about it.

If you mean Windows\Startup, I have sddaemon, O2 UI Refresh and poutlook.
I have moved them all out (startup folder is empty) and still no luck.

My suggestion unrelated to your problem is to keep "sddaemon.lnk" out of the "start up" folder. If you haven't noticed yet, if you keep sddaemon on the start up folder, after performing a soft reset this file is duplicated under "Notifications" taking up your precious memory and slowing down your machine. You can check it if you have a program that cleans your Notification Que such as "Scary Bear's Check Notification" (freeware).
For the alarm one, does anyone tried using PocketWakeup? The original one is in French, but there is an English version too. Google for it and see if it works on the universal.

Can't think of anything in my PDA that will have that need or ability, it is not an option I've noticed in any program before, but thanks anyway. I'll search around, there must be a solution somewhere

you could try reflashing your rom as you are on the older version.

I got the latest, just haven't updated my profile. I found it! It was Phone Alarm, changed to PocketZen and everything is finally OK
Hi Guys,
I'm having a love-hate relationship with my 3-week-old HTC Hermes.
Everything's OK except that I get a flurry of spurious reminders/vibrates over a 5 minute period when I soft reset the device (which I have been doing a lot while testing software).
I know that, historically, alarms and reminders on 'Pocket PC' devices have been a bit dodgy but this takes the biscuit! I have tried clearing dupes using the Scarybear utilities but this has not made a difference.
When the phone vibrates/pings, there's no pop-ups/messages to clear so it's not possible to tell what has invoked the reminder.
Apart from a hard reset, any ideas?
Thanks
linker3000
Did you ever get an answer to this one? - I'm having the same problem.
J
Me too! I had to do a hard reset!!!
I have this too. Sometimes checking for dupes with Memmaid helps. What's strange is that if you leave it for 10 mins it magically stops...
I always get it, and it always stops after about 10minutes. it started after i was trying to get the worthless alarm clock to work. I installed SBD Alarm (or whatever its called) and then realised that didnt work, so i removed it. never been right since.
SK Tools solved my problem:
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html
Good luck.
J
Alarms..
Someone has already mentioned memmaid, but only for checking for duplicates.
You can actually look at the notification queue and see if there are any notifications that are for programs that you have uninstalled.
Don't just delete all the notifications - or anything like that.. as it can stop things working.

Hey guys,
My Touch keeps giving me this error message. It pops up and won't go away for a long time. I know tmail.exe is the messaging app, but does anybody know what could be causing this? Anybody else had this issue?
same issue, any help is greatly appreciated. just flashed bd3.1 and added a tmobile 5.99 MMS CAB.

I see that error message from time to time, along with the more frequent "cannot execute clocknot.exe, calnot.exe and repllog.exe". It appears that these are old, old WM issues that nobody has a solution to... it is apparently part of the general flakeyness of WM -- stuff that is swept under the rug in WM-world...", accepted as a matter of course, along with WM's lags and resets...
For me, these errors happen the most when the device is waking up from standby, so I assume it is some kind of race condition in WM...

Same here. Tried 2 "solutions" I found that DID NOT WORK !
1) changing the time zone; start-settings-personal-phone-timezones=> uncheck
2) remove SPB Time
I repeat, neither works.
Do you have the "When available, use this store card to store attachments" checked under the storage tab? DON'T CHECK IT!
^^^
Ditto, don't store any emails on the memory chit. For some reason, the database that supports the filing of the emails get corrupted.

Yes. I did have it checked. Not anymore. Going to test it for a while now without it checked. Thanks Nuttsac & da.bell
Observation: While I thought the pop-ups were random, I discovered that they were in fact only happening while ActiveSync was running! And for some strange reason, when I start getting the errors, I'd check and find that AS was running even though I had not started it nor was I connected to my PC. Some program/task was starting it. Once I kill AS, the pop-ups stopped.
I think I tried posting this in one of dcd's rom threads but it got lost in the thousands of posts so I figured I would pull it out into a main thread...
What is up with WM closing out (crashing) background apps once you launch new ones? it's supposed to keep this stuff opened until you close it! Even if I have only 1 app opened, say Resco Pocket Radio.. and I try to go into a text message.. it will crash Resco... or if I have a PIE window open and I switch to a file browser it will crash PIE...
Is this a wm thing... wm6.1 thing or... dcd thing... or what?
I would really think this has been addressed before but I can't seem to find anything through search...
thanks
Are you using HTC X-Button or QuickMenu that may be closing your apps? Jus a thought
no htc x-button but I am using quickmenu... but that is only supposed to close the apps when u click the X in the corner... apps are closing by just launching from a notification... hard button.. or other launch method
Havn't seen that before... the only thing i can think of is double check quickmenu settings or try a hard reset, or maybe even cook a new rom. One time with a particular custom rom my text messages never made a sound -- but every other sound worked. I cook a new rom and it fixed it
i guess if no one else sees this problem it has to be something I have loaded on my device... im going to start removing things to see if i can determine the culprit... im starting with quickmenu
wow i dont think I've ever used regular start menu before but isn't it supposed to show apps that are currently loaded in memory? mine seems to be showing a list of last used apps... has like 10 things in there then program/settings...
not to be mistaken with frequenters (set in settings->menu), I have that list empty... strange!

I'm having a problem with PIE. I'll open my text messages, then go back to PIE only to have it re-open back on the homepage. It is very annoying when I'm in the middle of something and just wanna respond to a text message.
I noticed it has to do with apps that are active on the broadband network, which leads me to believe it was radio-related...
I went back to 1.4 & 1.7.0 and no crashes or anything... starting to think this combo is more stable anyways. new radios just don't seem to work all that well on verizon, at least in my experience
Hi
Have installed Cookies Home tab editor and xthack, all running fine execpt now can't open email with double tap from the slider view - anyone have any idea how to fix this???
Thanks in advance
I have the same problem..
Try this: press on/off button until u get Lock device, lock device, then unlock and try to open email.. ti works for me, but this is a stupid solution for a major problem.. and I don't think it is related to home tab editor or any program..
Hi,
Being new here, I have found this thread about the same problem I have.
Anyone got a solution for this or a registry tweak?
Initially, I was relating this problem to recently installed Dutty's TM, since I haven't immediately lost tap-to-open function in an e-mail preview slider upon installing Cookie Home Plugin.
Help much appreciated,
Alex

This probably has happened to me twice since I got the phone on 3/24. What I just do is reboot the phone and problem fixed!
had this problem with some custom roms but since have been using the extreme series i have not had the problem. the unlock trick did not resolve the issue for me. also use mtty when flashing a new rom, this possibly could have caused the problem for me.

Happened to me also the same way before. But this is something different.
At first it stopped functioning only on one mail account and noticed that somehow it lost the saved password on that account. After repairing that, temporarily, it came back to normal again but after couple of days lost this function completely on all mail accounts.
Plus, in start menu when tapping E-mail it opens FlexMail instead of standard built-in mail account list.
Really cannot address the source of the problem and trying to avoid starting all over with reinstalling after desperate measures.
This is the first serious problem I came to from last December when I got the phone.
Alex
Using the lock/unlock sequence, via a long press on the end call button, works for me. Not really satisfactory. The problem has started only since I recently had to hard reset my device and reinstall all the software.
