Hi all,
before my upgrade from ExtROM 1.11.162 to 1.11.171, i backedup up my data with xBackup.
once the upgrade was succesfull, i followed the instruction and succesfully went in Settings/systems/device info and saw the ExtRom to 1.11.171.
From there, i naturally restored my data using xBackup.
then went back to check at the rom and saw 1.11.162!!!!
I was not expecting that at all!!!
Am i missing something??
In advance, thanks for your help.

The ROM version that Windows reports is stored in the Windows registry. When you restore a full backup that was made whilst running an earlier ROM version, you are also restoring the Windows registry from that time, hence the reported ROM version will be incorrect.
Hope this helps

Hi All,
Today I upgraded my O2 XDA ROM and Radio Stack to the latest "official" versions (3.20.06 ENG and 4.21.00 respectively). I followed the instructions carefully, particularly WRT backup.
However, when I tried to restore my backup after the upgrade (via M$ ActiveSync), I get a "Device Mismatch" error - "Restore cannot be completed successfully. The selected backup file was created from a different type of mobile device...". It wasn't of course and I suspect that the error occurs because it was a different ROM version.
Anyone any ideas how to work around this? I saw a workaround for the problem on the ipaq (http://www.pc-counselor.8m.com/How_to/index.htm#backup1) but when I looked at the relevant part of my backup file, the value they said to change from was different (the 'howto' said it should be 0600 but in my file it was 0100).
TIA,
Rob Hills
i dont know if this is correct, or the right way, but this is what i woulda done: downgrade to old rom, then do a restore

Yes, I'd thought of this approach, but concluded that it leaves me with the old version of the OS and no obvious way to upgrade without losing my data.
u dont want to restore things from an old ROM anyway, wont be compatible, or may cause problems...so I've heard
Newbie here...
Got a SX56 (used) and it was working fine. Saw that there was an upgrade to 2003 and like the moron I am, I jumped in with both feet. Now the device will only go to the initial screen where it shows the rom/radio versions.
I downloaded the tool, and tried to restore from SD but it still doesn't work.
My bootloader is v5.15 it seems.
At this point, I just want the thing to work again in 2002 or 2003. If someone has some ideas or a ROM image to go back, please let me know

Maybe you´ve got the same problem than an other guy here in this forum. He have big problems to install WM2003 on his device.
Since you´re getting message of ROM AND Radio version it looks quite good.
I would suggest that you get a new ROM maybe from my kitchen (http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org and install it on your device using an SD-Card and the XDATools.....

Thanks. I tried earlier but I wasn't sure what one to choose. I have an English Version SX56 that was sold through AT&T. It shows Wallaby Bootloader 5.15 now. It shows the correct rom/radio info for Win2003 but won't boot.
What version should I try? I'd like to get 2003 if I can, but would be willing to go back to 2002 to get a function phone again.
Thanks for all the help
P.S. - I was using Mozilla and it never actually downloaded anything when I tried.

Downloaded a new ROM - thanks - but same problem. Now the unit shows new ROM version but still never goes any further than the boot screen.
Any other ideas?
Steps please...
How did you load your new rom? Please post the steps so that we can try and figure out what went wrong.
Apologies for the stupid question. I know that upgrading the OS ROM clears the unit, but I was under the impression that upgrading the Radio does not. However the installation program ("RomUpDateUtility") says that continuing will result in all system data being lost.
I upgraded radio ROM 2x and data was not lost....
Do not worry
Only Rom flash deletes datas, hard-spl and radio rom flash does not. (but I suggest, use the custom RUU by UDK)
When I flashed my (1.58.25.14) all data was lost and I ended up with a clean device. Just like after hard reset..

Even a complete overwrite seems to leave things like manual roaming settings on the SIM card

Of course.
Sim card and storage card are not part of the device.
Romflashing will update only the device.
Radio upgrade
No data will be lost if you upgrade radio rom.
Just do a soft reset after the upgrade and everything will be OK.
Delete this please, phones have been flashed and I wasn't able to backup the ROM.
sorry for bumping
do you know how to do an entire backup of the whole phone? smt5600
