Any ideas on how to get the light button working on a jas-jar. Mine has not been working since the start and I've tried everything. The button Im talking about is the first from the right close to the infrared port on the outside of the device. It is supposed to turn on the flashlight but when I press it nothing happens and it doesnt even show up in the buttons applet in WM5.
Actually that button doesn't turn on the flashlight, though some here have tried to come up with a hack so that it would. I don't know if they were ever successful with that.
That button turns on the screen backlight when it has timed out but your device is still turned on. It's not the most useful button, which is why folks were trying to come up with a hack to make it more useful, for instance to turn on the flashlight like you wanted to.
Maybe if someone has had success, they will chime in here.
Change the button
Attached is a cab file allowing you to make use out of the light button to anything else
When yuo say anything else, does that include controlling the flashlight? Either way, thanks for the file.
Would be nice if one could assign it to turn on the keyboard backlight.
There is no option to adjust the sensitivite of the light sensor for the keyboard, and i think that it kicks in way to late.
Find my self holding the finger over the sensor and hitting a button to make it light up.
Any one aware og a possible Reg Hack to make this option appear in the Assing Button list?

why dont u just change the option in the settings\buttons\backlight and take the tick off the box, and it works like a charm. everytime u press a key it lights up, sorted, and it doesnt affect the battery at all really
@Elmo
Well i didn't use that choise because i don't have any car charger yet. (Waiting for the Brodit kit)
I want to preserve as much battery as possible.........as you already know, this baby can eat your battery pretty fast............

Is this the same as changing it manually on the registry?
Yes, it's my CAB file I posted a little while back that adds a registry entry so that you see it listed as "Button 5" in the Buttons setting applet.

Isn'it available for the Wizard too ? ...
I wrote a very simple script that turn on the camera and press the flash button.
I use the flash key and ms voice command to start it
you need to have MortScript installed. (include with this package)
A very simple question from a new owner -- where are the buttons defined that are assigned in Settings - Buttons? I don't see them labeled as "Button 1", etc in the User Manual.

On your HTC Universal, go to:
Start>Settings>Buttons
From there you can change the assignments of the buttons.
Ok. I have found the 2 keyboard keys that are buttons 1 and 2, and the 2 external buttons that are buttons 3 and 4.
I must say that button 1 is not very useful for voice command, when the device is closed. I guess I could assign it to button 4 or button 5 with the registry hack.
On the supplied "headset", there is a microphone with a button on it.
- What does that button do?
- Is it possible to use it for Voice Command?
(I guess for that to happen, it first needs to be recognised as an assignable button in WM5).
The backlight button cab file is working. Now I can reassign that useless button becomes the OK button. Very useful when use it in the tablet mode. But I need two more buttons to use for the softkey. I have use the record button for the left softkey and have no more button for the right softkey. Any suggestion?
One more thing, the script for enabling the flash light does not work. It turns on the camera, but the flash light remains off.
Hi all,..
Some time ago I posted a item here where I asked if there is a option to reprogram the backlight button on the Universal so it turns on the Camera Flashlight.
Does anyone knows if this can be done?
Regards

I've re-programmed mine to launch TomTom, so I know you can programme it. If anyone knows whether the light can be actived by a command then it should be okay... but I wouldn't know if you can get the button to turn it off again...
To programme the button:
1. Launch the Registry and goto HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
2. Create a key "40C8"
3. Copy everything from "40C5" into "40C8"
4. rename it something like "Button 6"
5. Soft-Reset using an application like psShutXP/pocket plus NOT the hole in the back!!
6. Goto Buttons in the Settings and programme as you would the rest.
Regards.
Hi,
Yes, I've got it working fine!
You need vjcandela0.2.cab put together by vijay555, then you can map it to a button (the useless backlight button being the obvious choice).
Have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...tdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=torch&start=0

Please don't run the flash for too long.. It's designed for flashing, not illuminating a Broadway show

Vijay, does your app put it to full light that you get when it's meant to flash, or the half light that you get before you take the picture?
Can you change the setting of it? So I could put it on the half light and use it for longer periods?
Regards.
can anyone tell me of if their is a piece of software that can disable the camera button and if i choose to enable it again just do so in that software dont use camera that often and sick of it turning on when placed into cradle
This piece of software is already there. Look under settings/buttons and click on "button2". Go to pulldown menu at the bottom of the page and select "<none>"....ready!!
Thanks
Thank you for the info so simple yet I could not see it
Hi All
I've been looking in to locking down an Athena and taking control / disabling all the hardware buttons. I can disable most of them in Start->Settings->Buttons. The ones I am having particular trouble with are the OK and Windows buttons to the left of the screen. I have trawled the registry and am yet to come up any answers on how to do this. Does anyone know where the registry keys may exist to do this?
Cheers

I'm curious why you would want to take away such a useful things away. Currently I use all the hardware button and wish there are more available. I use it for things such as changing SIP, rotate screen, start IGO, and control myp3 (such as volume up, volume down, next song, previous song, blank out screen, bring up the playlist, pause, unpause. This is while the device remains inside my belt pouch). The ok button is extremely useful in doing things such as hiding the phone application after use. Similarly if you're using program such as VITO fun contact, you could hide it after use without having to exit this extremely memory tiny application and able to instantly access your contact again anytime. Why would you want to disable all these useful features?
AEBPlus free version will disable all buttons

But I agree, unless you're developing an app that comandeers the buttons, why reduce functionality? You can lock the buttons while the unit is off. ???
Hi everybody,
I've been digging into a lot of forums without clear answers and you may be of some help:
I've changed the digitizer of my Omnia I8000 running under W6.5 and everything was ok except that I damaged the ribbon cable for the keypad and the camera buttons. I was so close...
Now I do not have access to the camera buttons and can't enjoy my new scratchfree screen with homemade photos...
I've ordered a new one but in case i can't fix it I was wandering if there's a way to remap this button to the cube button for exemple.
Hbutton or aeplus is of no use, these hardware buttons are low level linked to the cam app.
I can launch cam application but when in camera mode i have no way to take the picture. Remapping the cube button to the cam app works by launching it but when in cam mode, the cube button don't trigger the picture.
I did'nt find where the low level hardware keys are link to the cam app.
Even if it means cooking a special rom i don't care, I can live without the cube button.
Any help appreciated
Eric
