Just ordered the VarioII on WnW with T-Mobile and i'm off looking for a dual sym adaptor. Is there anyone with a Vario-II who can comment on the SIM type?
Also, what's the battery rating on the Vario-II, that's one difference reported between the 100 and 200 models.
Thanks,
A.

Hi,
I am looking to buy a XDA2 or Imate. I live in the top end of Australia so Telstra is really the only option for networks.
I cant decide how Im going to buy one! If I purchase outright then use Telstra prepaid I cant use GPRS right?
If I purchase from the Telstra website I have to pay a lump sum up front, then repayments on the phone and then join a "Telstra memberplan" which has amazingly high call rates. See http://telstrashop.telstra.com/package.asp?strSelItem=XUZIMATE&cat=1&cat2=handset
Are there any better options for buying a imate/XDA2 on a Telstra plan?
Thanks,
Dave
Take a trip even norther?
I got my XDA-II in Singapore "contract free" and it was about AUD$800 after echange rate in December. Aus retail was about $1350 at the time. Exchange rate is a little bit worse now, but the XDA-II are also cheaper.
Contact free is more expensive than with a plan, but then you are "unlocked" and free to choose your plan with the telco of your choice.
The sing XDA-II are the same as the aus and come loaded with 1.6WWE (if not upgrade it yourself) which has optus and telstra settups for GPRS and WAP selectable amongst all the asian telcos.
I have been using 1.6WWE with GPRS and OPTUS on my existing SIM card for about 6mths.
The saving you make on peripherals etc would allow you to have a few days holiday in Singapore..
I'm taking my T-Mobile Vario II from the UK to the US next month and I was wondering if I can simply buy a PAYG SIM card in the States and use this on my phone while I'm there?
I know that the phone is locked so can I buy a T-Mobile SIM and use that?
Cheers.
Out of interest is there any reason why you do not unlock your phone first?
Sure, Cingular and T-mobile both sell prepaid sim cards (though you may be better off trying to get one on ebay first).
A T-mobile UK phone will NOT accept a T-mobile US sim without unlocking it, they are considered different networks and a phone locks itself to the network code.
Keep in mind though that in the US we don't have prepaid data like in the UK. PAYG in the US lacks many other things like roaming and cheap calls abroad.

To be honest, I don't know how to! I have a T-Mobile Vario II with the standard ROM.
Are PAYG SIMS available in Canada?
Is Canada considered 'abroad' with regard to a US SIM? And vice versa?
I'm going to both Canada and the US this year and want to know the score.
Thanks

When I was in Canada in July, Tmobile2Go SIM would *NOT* register. Note that in late '06 Tmo said 2Go SIMs would get roaming - dunno if that applies to Canada or not though. I just looked online and I'm still not sure You can easily pick up a Nokia 6030 here with a Tmo2Go SIM for ~$40. If you unlock and sell the 6030 it's cheaper than buying a SIM alone from Tmobile.
If your Vario II is a Hermes (I don't know T-mobile model names), you should have little trouble unlocking it using the Wiki instructions here.
PM me if you need help acquiring a US SIM card.
HTH,
Richard
Only Rogers pay as you go sim card has US roaming, but that's really expensive!
So, I've decided to buy an Athena.
1 problem though - Its not available in Australia. So I guess the best option is to import it. I've found a store (mobileplanet) that will deliver to Australia, but I'm worried about a few things
- The specs on HTCs site say that the HSDPA frequency on the device is 850/1900mhz in the US, 2100mhz in Europe - is this a hardware thing? Because Australia uses 2100mhz and I don't want the phone to arrive and not be able to handle any 3G networks here.
- Charging it - where do I get an Australian charger for it? The US uses different AC mains voltage to us and it'll probably **** something up if I just use a US -> Aus plug point converter.
Can anyone shed some light on these points?
I would assume then that you need a EUROPEAN Athena for 2100 3G rather than one from US!
If you got one from UK with 240Volts charger would that be more suitable for you also?
eaglesteve has one in australia - might be worth pming him?
No issue with the signal. It works perfectly. Telstra uses 850but the rest uses 2100, so Athena works on all of them.
no problems with the adaptor as well since it does 120 to 240. if i were you i would get it from ebay as well it's cheaper & while you get it from mobileplaet they do not offer the warrenty with it as well so you areb ack to square one. the machineworks like a dream mate with 3 mobile broadband but i am eager to know how it does with telstra bigpond here in sydney as well...anyone had the experence?
i actually found that i had to overclock it or set the cycle at a higher frequency with an overclocker to make it work well for me. anyone else had a similar experience? hope its not just my setup running sbd & the black rom
i bought my advantage x7501 from mobileplanet also and it comes w/ a european outlet adapter.
*hope that helps*
Can anybody explain the difference between Niki100 200 300 400 500 and Neon 100 200 300 400?
Which one(s) has wifi and 16-key?
Thanks.
No one has WiFi and the number mostly shows from which Provider (or country) the model comes!
E.g. Niki100 is a HTC one, the T-Mobile GER Niki is a Niki200 with 16 keys keyboard and the Niki300 is o2 GER one with 20 keys keyboard! As far as I know, the Neon400 is sold by Telus Canada and has GPS and another Chipset with 528 MHz and cannot be used with UMTS (WCDMA) bands!
Just to clarify you a bit!
Thank u a lot for ur reply
However, I have seen on wikipedia that the NEON100 has both wifi and gps. And I am confused about this.
In what Wiki did you read this?

Here~
In Australia, we get the NEON 200 (also known as the P5530).
I am going to be in Japan for at least an year from September and am wondering if there is a way of getting a data plan on a pay as you go SIM card (I have a rooted Desire with stock Gingerbread I'd like to keep using). With DoCoMo and Softbank out of the question and AU being CDMA, what is the situation with the smaller players (Willcom, eMobile, etc)?

PAYG available using Docomo's network with the MVNO "bmobile".
The interesting plan is "Fair", SIM initially costs 9000 yen and good for 4mo/1gb (whichever comes first). Recharges available for about 8000 for the 4mo/1gb option, or 3100 for 1mo/1gb.
You can add a (postpaid) optional voice service for 1200/mo, 1 year fixed commitment, but you must be a resident for the voice service. Oh, they're credit card only too. Japanese language only customer support.
Willcom went bankrupt last year, the smoldering remnants were picked up by Softbank.
