Keylight does not work - O2 Xda Exec - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I have just performed a hard reset, and installed the latest ROM from O2. I did the basic install option.
The keylight does not work, and never has worked.... I have enabled the keylight in the settings menu, the option "enable keyborad backlight sensor".
Still no light.... do I have to turn on som other menu option or change something in the registry? Or is it just a software error? Everything else works just fine on the device.
It is just a minor fault, but I want that cool blue keyboard backlight....

It does have to be uber-dark for it to activate. Have you tried putting your finger over the sensor whilst pressing a key?
Failing that, take it back

where is the light sensor as my exec keyboard light apears not to work either and it was only deliivered yesterday!

Yep, it worked, but only when it is dark as the grave.
The button to switch it on, does not! But I'll manage, as it turns itself on when any key is pressed.
Is there any registry tweak I can do to make that sensor work even if it is not pitch black?

Enable backlight button in HTC Universal
This trick permit you to enable the backlight button in HTC Universal devices (Qtek 9000, I-mate JasJar, XDA Exec, Dopod 900…).
http://www.pocketpceurope.eu/downloads/Backlight_key.rar

Without installing anything, if you disable the sensor in buttons settings, the keyboard will always light up when you press any key in any light condition.

Keyboard Problem

Hello I'm having some problems with my Htc Hermes (I-MAte JASJAM)'s hardware keyboard backlight problem.
whenever i open the keyboard it lights up and when i press a key it goes off (weather its dark or not)
I have tried to uncheck / check the light sensor option in the settings but it didnt help.
I dont want to hard reset could you provide me with default keys which are in
HKEY_LOCAL_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight
Thank you
this seems to be exactly what im after. i am aware that this is an old thread but i am after the settings for the backlight registry as above.
my backlight seems to flicker on and off as im typing, which is rather concerning and irritating. any help would be great.

There is a "light sensor" setting? I looked everywhere for it but can't find. I would want my keyboard backlight on 100% of the time if my Hermes is slid open...if there's some way to jury rig that feature, I'd be pretty psyched. Somebody help!

When making phone call, the screen got blank

after a few second..
anyway to make the screen remain turn on during phone call?
There is no fault...
So they abuse that you touch anything unintentionally.
Just press the wake up button to use your phone while calling. (On/ Off Button)
The screen going blank is intentional, I think, to save battery. As the phone is at your ear. Yes, just press the green phone button to wake up. It's defaulted in other HTC phones as well.
Someone has a tweak program for this ???
Ive been searching all over to find a solution to this but to no avail. The closest I get is a thread on Diamond (elder brother to Jade) tweak which is not conclusive on this subject.
However this is what I figured out . . . .
There is a sensor (somewhere near the speaker) that blanks the screen the moment you bring your phone to your ear. If you leave your phone face up after pressing call button, the screen remains on, until it senses something come near the phone face. Try covering it with your hand or anything, the screen goes blank. But when you press the 'ON' switch again, it will remain lit. The sensor only works once after first pressing call button.
If after you complete dialling and press call button, if you press the 'speaker' button immediately, the screen will remain on, even if you cover it (the sensor does not work here) or turn off speaker.
So, I put the phone to 'vibrate mode" to indicate when the call is connected (phone options). If you need to use the dial pad for e.g phone banking, then use 'speaker on'.
Anyone else has other findings ?
Maybe this will help..

Brilliant !!! Thanks for sharing.
Is there any way I can make it wake up with just the top (power) button and the round middle button? I don't want the green or red button to wake up the phone because they are raised and may turn on the phone while in my pocket...
Thanks

Well, mine is inconsistent. Sometimes it will turn off sometimes it won't. But mostly it will only turn off once the call is established even if you don't cover the sensor (presume you don't turn on the speaker phone). Can one confirm this or is it I'm having a faulty sensor???

Well, mine is inconsistent too, I mean there is no definitive pattern. I guess it's sensor sensitivy dependant. I'm not really sure how it is set up. So I rely much on the vibrate mode, on press the ON button again, if still curious about the call status.
I have tried to create the registery key for the any key wake instead of the power key only
"DefaultKeyLock" Value "0"
The problem is after i soft reset the registery key is simply gone (i.e. gone, deleted ....)
any ideas?

Not sure why it happened. But you can always add the reg key "DefaultKeyLock" if it's not there.

Does this sensor really exist on the Jade? I did not find any sensor-function, the display vanishes after a few seconds with and without covering by hand if you do not activate the hands-free-mode.

I tried this - its a great idea and works well.... a little too well because when I pop the phone in my pocket sometimes a key gets accidentally pressed, the phone wakes and anything can happen & did like making an unintentinal call or the voice commander activating. So in my case I had to switch it off.
shame - i liked it apart from that. Could the registry be tweaked to set just one other button thats least likely to get accidentally pressed? I'm thinking the enter button perhaps because its recessed . I can see that others have asked for this as well but nothing available yet ?
thanks

How to lock the screen by turning it off?

Hi, my typical procedure before putting the phone in the pocket is to hold right soft button to lock the screen and to switch off the screen with the power button. I wonder if there is a way to do it at once. You press the power button and screen goes off locked?
Thanks.s.
Install AutolockScreen 1.7 (I'm at work so don't have the cab with me, but if you search this site you'll find it. Install the cab and then go to Start\Settings\System\SmartLock and tick Suspend lock.
LockDevice works well...

Do either of these lock screen apps consume a lot of power?
I understand they have also been created with power saving feaures but what do they run like in a coarse of a day for instance, do they drain the battery quickly?
Thanks.

It does but it has a problem with the background light not undimming after locking.
Doesn't the phone automatically lock itself when you turn off the screen? Mine seems like it always does.

Yes, if you just press the power button the screen goes off but it is not locked and although touching the buttons does not turn it back on, if an sms comes in and wakes the device the buttons are then active and could be accidentally touched whilst in your pocket. With the screen locked this does not happen and you need to first unlock the screen to access the sms or the device in general.

Oh ok thanks for the info. Mine does unlock when I get a call/sms but I text a lot so I prefer it to do that, otherwise I'd be wasting a lot of time unlocking it every time I got a message.
Thanks for the hint ClydeB1 and thanks for the cab Fallen Spartan.
I tried SL 1.7 and there are three things, which I do not really like.
1. The phone returns to the very same screen where it was switched off. Some may consider it a pre. I prefer to see the clock when I switch it on.
2. The screen blink once when the phone is switchd on. I find it a bit irritating.
3. I do not see how I can uninstall it.
So, I wonder if you can undim the screen in HD Tweak by touching it or you need to do something extra?
You uninstall it as with any other cab. It's called Chobit Company Smartlock on the list of apps.
If you do use the hd tweak edit, you'll need to push the power button twice I think (it's been a long time since I used it I've forgotten), the first time to activate the screen (you'll see the screen but the backlight will not light up properly) then again to undim and then you can unlock the screen. I think that's the sequence, you'll need to play a little.

The way I had activated the lock was by pressing and keeping pressure on the end call softkey, after a few seconds it vibrates and activates the lock. It comes on automatically when you put the screen off or restart the phone.

Auto-lock screen
I'm running CLEAN ROM (B version) with SPB Mobile Shell.
Considering I don't want any superficial apps installed on my HD, I used HD Tweak and turned autolock on.
To get over the "background light not undimming after locking" problem, I initially unchecked "Automatically adjust backlight" under Settings > System > Power > Backlight and set at 100%. I also set the "Dim backlight on Device" when on battery power to the same time as "Turn off device if not used for". In my case that was 1 minute. I tested and this worked fine.
I then went back in and checked the "Automatically adjust backlight" checkbox.
I also performed the wake up with volume button reg edit making it easier to wake up device.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd]
"DefaultKeyLock"= 0
UPDATE:
Just tested again and I realised if you wake up device but don't unlock. The screen will automatically dim. Unfortunately if you unlock immediately after, the dim screen issue rears it's ugly head again. The only workaround at this point is to completely disable dim backlight.

prevent wake up by pressing buttons unintentionally?

Hello community,
normaly I wear my HD2 in my trouser pocket. So often the buttons are pressed unintentionally. The HD2 wakes up and shows the lock screen. That drains the battery not insubstantial.
Is it possible to tweak the buttons that I have to hold the END/POWER button for an longer time (eg. 5 sec.) to show the lock screen.
And I mean only the END/POWER button. At the moment regardless of which button i press the HD2 wakes up (exept the volume keys)
Thanks for help

That would be preferable. I managed to lose 50% of battery just because of that!

S2U2 could work for that ...
... because the next question is then:
Is then the battery drained by the proximity sensor and the software task behind?
Greez, rschaeff
Well, the proximity sensor just gets checked for half a second until the device powers down again, or until the lockscreen is dismissed, so no.
I ran Co0kie's Home Tab v1.7.1 so a won't install S2U2 additionally. I have customize my locksrenn with it.
Ist there no way to provide a solution with the 'long press END/POWER button' for wake up?

No. Power on function is hard coded very deeply.
If you don't want S2U2 there's the same fumctionality but alone in Proximity sensor for screen off.

thanks for that option! i tried it and it works, now my screen doesn't turn on inside the pouch when the buttons are pressed. hopefully, this would lessen power usage and extended battery life.
The only problem with using the proximity sensor for screen off app/cab is that if sat in a dark room your phone keeps turning the screen off same if you accidentally cover the sensor. Not sure if it has been fixed in a new version but last version I used I have them two problems
for some reason, when you change your settings under start->settings->system->keylock settings, nothing happens. Even when you set it's set to: "Lock all buttons except Power button," all buttons still turn the device on. Can someone else confirm this?
Official HD2 ROMs don't even have the "keylock settings" item. Your cooked ROM probably has a leftover.
... anything new ... ?
yes are there any news about that feature?

Proximity sensor doesnt seem to work on Sony X10

I have noticed a prob, that the proximity sensor doesnt turn off the screen during phone call. Anybody knows any ideas of how to fix this prob. Is the screen supposed to turn off when the device detects our ears or cheek once we start talking? I hav been accidently touching the endcall myself a lot of times without purpose. Thank you very much in advance^^

This has been told many times!! Do a search before, please
Proximity sensor on X10, DOES NOT turn off the screen. It just disable tochpad when the phone is close to your face. The screen turns off according to the time you have set in screen settings, and turns on again when you take the phone away from your ear. (Well, nearly always, sometimes it just don't work fine, at least for me.)

You can do a little test, place your phone on the table and call a number and then use your finger to cover the proximity sensor. Now try to touch the endcall and see if its disable. If it doesn't disable it then its off to the service center. Good Luck.

yup... the problem is that even if the service menu test claims that the sensor is working, the R2 updates seem to have dialer application which doesn't seem to be using it properly.
