Proximity sensor doesnt seem to work on Sony X10 - XPERIA X10 General

I have noticed a prob, that the proximity sensor doesnt turn off the screen during phone call. Anybody knows any ideas of how to fix this prob. Is the screen supposed to turn off when the device detects our ears or cheek once we start talking? I hav been accidently touching the endcall myself a lot of times without purpose. Thank you very much in advance^^

This has been told many times!! Do a search before, please
Proximity sensor on X10, DOES NOT turn off the screen. It just disable tochpad when the phone is close to your face. The screen turns off according to the time you have set in screen settings, and turns on again when you take the phone away from your ear. (Well, nearly always, sometimes it just don't work fine, at least for me.)
regards

Well I did a search and already figured out that it wont turn off the screen but only disable the touchpad, however mine one doesnt even turn the touchpad off, i did many times accidently touching the endcall button on screen, weird...

You can do a little test, place your phone on the table and call a number and then use your finger to cover the proximity sensor. Now try to touch the endcall and see if its disable. If it doesn't disable it then its off to the service center. Good Luck.

There is an option to test that too in the hidden menu, but I just can't find it. Don't remember how to get to that hidden menu. Anybody?

Then Service Test -> Proximity Switch

yup... the problem is that even if the service menu test claims that the sensor is working, the R2 updates seem to have dialer application which doesn't seem to be using it properly.
Like I tried with my R2BA023 update and I cannot get the proximity sensor to trigger while making or receiving a call...

Keylight does not work - O2 Xda Exec

I have just performed a hard reset, and installed the latest ROM from O2. I did the basic install option.
The keylight does not work, and never has worked.... I have enabled the keylight in the settings menu, the option "enable keyborad backlight sensor".
Still no light.... do I have to turn on som other menu option or change something in the registry? Or is it just a software error? Everything else works just fine on the device.
It is just a minor fault, but I want that cool blue keyboard backlight....
It does have to be uber-dark for it to activate. Have you tried putting your finger over the sensor whilst pressing a key?
Failing that, take it back
where is the light sensor as my exec keyboard light apears not to work either and it was only deliivered yesterday!

Yep, it worked, but only when it is dark as the grave.
The button to switch it on, does not! But I'll manage, as it turns itself on when any key is pressed.
Is there any registry tweak I can do to make that sensor work even if it is not pitch black?

Enable backlight button in HTC Universal
This trick permit you to enable the backlight button in HTC Universal devices (Qtek 9000, I-mate JasJar, XDA Exec, Dopod 900…).
http://www.pocketpceurope.eu/downloads/Backlight_key.rar
Without installing anything, if you disable the sensor in buttons settings, the keyboard will always light up when you press any key in any light condition.

The light button on the device is just for the backlight for the screen, not the keyboard

Xperia, accidental screen touch

has anybody ever experienced this before?
while talking to the phone, your ear is pressed against the screen hence accidentally touching the screen with your ear and doing unwanted tasks
i have tried lowering light timer and;
pressing the on/off button once to turn off the screen
i find this a big problem for me, its an inconvinience, anybody has got any solutions for this?
thanks
use xperia tweak (use search function)
There is an option to urn screen off during calls
im using xperia tweak 2.0
all i see is
"disable screen turning off during calls" wouldnt this be the opposite of what u want?
I keep my screen on during calls and my cheek does not press any buttons, even when touching. Maybe your cheek bone or ear is too pointy?
lol actually its the clock button at the windows bar is being pressed on and it changed itself to analog/digital
Eh?
Standard behaviour is to switch the screen off during a call. So unless you changed it, why is your screen on? I wish this worked like y iphone and siwtched as you put it to your head, then screen goes back on when you pull it away during a call.
Same for me, my screen has never gone off while calling. Same by enabling and disabling the feature in Xperia Tweak.
I read somwhere that R2 changed that behaviour in opposition to R1..

Just made a hard reset because of lots of beta software testing, I reinstalled only my very needed software, and the screen turns off like expected during the calls. I am in R2.

Soft "End call" button drops calls constantly

I've been testing this a little now and I am sure that I am presing the "End call" button with my face and dropping calls more now than ever. Maybe it's more sensitive in the new ROM's? Or the light sensor is less sensitive?
Is there a way to get rid of this button or disable it?
I am running DC 2.07.2 with the new radio and PRL 60663.
I was getting that too with DC 2.06. From what I could figure it would be caused by hanging up on the person with the soft end button and not the hard key. That is what I could gather out of the few times that it happened to me.
when you make a call, pull your taskbar down.
thats how i test if its me or the ROM.
Haha, I tried that... but my face pushed "call in progress" and brought me back to the call screen.
Maybe a themer could remove the "end call" button from that screen?
I am really having an issue here. Can anyone suggest a way to disable the soft button?
Download "proximity sensor" from the market.
After you make or answer a call, press the home button to go back to the home screen

Well, we don't really have a proximity sensor. BUT you can download the proximity sensor app from the market and that pretty much locks the phone while its in a call. That would be the only thing I can think of.
It does FC when you end a call on the Hero - but it doesn't disable the app, it gets the job done.

I haven't had a problem with Proximity Sensor FC'ing in 2.1. Calls going through at all… Now, that's a problem!
Well, I tried it and it doesn't work at all. Nothing I do makes it go into lock mode.... is my light sensor broken? And could this be from the ROM?

Could very well be broken from the rom, I haven't tried it in a couple of months. I'll see if I can make it work tonight. I wonder if its open source.

If it's possible to re-map the hard button, isn't it possible to remap or break the soft one?
I'd rather keep my hard end button the way it is and disable or re-map the soft one.
Can anyone help? Would a donation move things along?

Sigh........
Well, I had been using Regaw's suggestion of holding down menu and bringing up the keyboard during calls. It was working perfectly as a screen "shield" until a few days ago when it started pushing the screen up instead of covering it. It's so weird, it just randomly started doing that, so I actually am more likely to press the end button with that method now....
I guess I am going to have to get that overbloated "Screen Suite" program to stop this crap, since removing or disabling the soft "End call" button on the call screen does not seem like something that anyone here is capable of doing...
Just updated my wife's Moment yesterday to the leaked 2.1. Her biggest complaint about the phone was that she constantly muted or hung up on other people with either her hair, earring or cheek. Once updated I tried a test called and I couldn't believe that this issue was actually fixed! The mute/end call button now looks just like the vanilla unlock and can't be that easily activated. Not sure if that can be ported over to Hero but it would definitely be great to have.
Maybe just stop mashing the phone hard against your face?
I've never had a problem with this.
^Well, if you've never had a problem, then I don't know why I'm even posting here! Should have asked you first, apparently.
I know plenty of people who have this problem. It sucks.

(BTW, did you let your wife know that Sawawa has never had this issue? She might want to check with him next time before bothering you about these things.... )

if you are using the phone the proximity sensor will turn off the screen once it touches your face to prevent screen buttons from being pressed.
for some reason I turn turn off the Phone Connection (pretty much like airplane mode) while in the phone and it happens a lot, and it bothers, so I was wondering how to lock it to bypass this issue
You gotta make sure that you are on the dialer when you put it upto your face, anywhere else and the proximity sensor won't do anything. I have a terrible habit of hitting home, then opening a dozen programs while talking to someone cause my screens hittin my ear. Just make sure that you are on the call screen before moving it to your head and it should do the rest.
sounds good nuff, i'll try to keep that in habit, so used to android devices with a lock button lol, thanks guys
I just hit the notification bar an then hit lock at the bottom of the screen while talking on the phone, now I use Inesoft phone.

Alternative way to turn on / wake screen (capacitive buttons / accelerometer)

Hi guys,
Got my Desire HD last Friday and I'm really pleased with it, stunning device. The problem is, I'm using a case which protects the phone nicely and looks decent too but the power button is very tough to press in (let alone without a case TBH). I have Cyangens "Menu Unlock" enabled but I'm wondering if there is a tweak or APK to enable the capacitive buttons when the screen is off so I can turn it on easily (using Button Remapper). Maybe even a shake to enable app to wake the phone. Oh, cover below:
When I had the Galaxy S, I could just wake the screen with the main physical Home button.
When I had the Milestone, there was an APK to allow me to wake the screen with the buttons.
Any help or direction would really be appreciated. Would love to be able to unlock it that easily.
Cheers #auggie2k

Buttons will be disabled when phone is asleep. The closest is to try "Tap Tap App" from the Market. Its free. Try and see how it could give you possibilities. Basically, it will allow you to set lock/wake permissions using the proximity sensor.
I use it as an alternative to pressing the power button all the time during shorter phone sleep/wake intervals
Much appreciated Jacob, cheers for the quick reply.
You can try WidgetLocker too, allow you to power up the phone using volume button.

Its possible without much battery drain I remember using Pocketshield with the HD2 where it unlocks when you flip the phone facedown and up or shake from side to side. Seems they're still hung up on Windows till now... I hope they come around to turn to Android soon

You're welcome mate! Test the proximity settings, I used to use "Easy Detection" but found it too sensitive, it unlocks with short finger waves which was cool but also gets screwed up with strong winds when outdoors... lol
Since, I've changed the setting to "safe mode (default)" and it responds well to 2 mild taps. Hope it works for you too!
