Hi,
Siemens SX56 Unlock
I would like to know if someone unlocked its phone by himself.
All we read is people from everywhere except with AT&T.
My ROM version: 3.14.03 ENG date: 09/27/02
Radio version 6.12 protocol 324e4
Frequency 900/1900 American model PW10B
Does the Rom Update 3.17 from xda-developers works with Rogers AT&T?
Can we expect our phone to live after that update?
Is the new ROM functionnalities user friendly? Would you rather keep the old ROM version both UNLOCKED?
If you got your SX56 unlocked, can you tell me what you did?
I'd like to have your comments on what you did before I do it.
After spending that kind of money, I wouldn't like to kill my phone.
So let me know how you did it and what did you need to update it.
I expect to get details from you.
Thanking you in advance!!!
The ROM has nothing to do with receiving the signal. It's the RSU part (Radio part of the device). ROM 3.17 should be fine with unlocking, but you may try this tool firls to keep your current ROM www.xda-developers.com\XDAunlock\
To determine the best RSU to use with your new network then you have to get some info about your device and the frequency of the network (900/1800 or 900/1900).
But ... get your XDA unlocked first then we'll see if it receives signal or not.
Good luck
I unlocked my Siemens SX56 from AT&T with the XDA Manipulator tool on this site. To use it, you need a serial cable for your SX56. I just made one. In reality, it would have been much easier to simply upgrade with the special edition ROM on this wedsite and use the unlock tool. The ROM upgrade should not effect the phone at all since it is the windows operating system and not the radio software (radio stack) which is a seperate upgradeable piece of software.
To be safe, just download your current ROM onto an SD card and then use a seperate SD card to upload the upgrade ROM. If you don't like the upgrade ROM, you can always restore the original ROM and the good news is that once your phone is unlocked, it's unlocked no matter what ROM you use.
Good luck, and upgrading ROM's using the SD method is really the safest way IMHO. You can find plenty of information describing the process on this site.
Panabax
I just uploaded ROM version 3.17.03 ENG. My T-Mobile PW10B1 now identifies itself as a PW10"A"1 under "Settings", "Device Information".
Is this going to cause a problem?
My next step was to change from T-Mobile to AT&T, and I need to know if I will have to change the Radio Version. Currently 6.02. I know that there seems to be a lot of problems with Flashing the RSU. Do I have any choice in the matter?
hello. If it work. I you should keep it. Otherwise you have to upgrade the radio stack. It is safe but you need to follow the sreen correctly.
First if you have a laptop, It perfect(in case the Electronic power cut off)
2. upgrade the rom image only from AT&T ver 20.07 using xda tool
3. go to AT&T official site to upgrade you os 2003.(this include OS and Latest Stack.
good luck. 100 safe without any problem. I have done over 70 units.
The device report makes no difference to your phone, your phone will remain 900/1900.
Recently got a Cingular 8525 unlocked in US.
When I was searching for the Optus network(my network provider) via the Network setting on the phone, It only showed Telstra on the list.
I am thinking of flashing the firmware.
Just wonderring if there this is one good way of solving this question. Or are there alternatives to this?
Can I actually flash a Dopod 838 Pro firmware on it?
BTW the australian version of the phone is Jasjam. if this info helps.
I don't know why Optus wasn't showing, but I can tell you that you can indeed flash a Dopod ROM on your device. Please read the Upgrading forum and the wiki for more info.
Cingular 8525 can support ordinary GSM networks right?
Once think i know is that Telstra has the HSP...thingie.. the high speed 3G network.
Would it be possible that Cingular only recognize signals from the HSP..thingie high speed network from Telstra?
Only if it's set to do so. I've never used a Cingular ROM on my Hermes, but on other devices, I know they like to restrict things. Switching to a different ROM may be helpful in that respect, in case they have restricted that.
If you decide to flash, I would recommend the following steps:
1. Flash Hard-SPL to lessen the chance of bricking your device in the future
2. Flash the 1.38.00.10 Radio ROM (latest and greatest)
3. Flash an OS-only ROM of your choice - I would recommend a WM6 ROM because the most work is being done on those at the moment, and WM6 appears to be faster than WM5.
The wiki has links to all the available Radio and OS ROMs. All the WM6 ROMs are cooked, so look in that section. The reason I am recommending a mix-and-match approach is that it allows for the most choice as well as safety. Normal ROMs from providers flash everything - bootloader, radio, OS, and ExtROM. If the flashing fails at an inopportune moment, your device could be permanently bricked. However, when flashing different parts at different times, you lessen the chance of bricking. For example, when I was flashing the WM6 ROM, the flash process suddenly froze at 22%. But it was an OS-only upgrade, so my bootloader and radio ROM remained intact, and since I flashed the Hard-SPL bootloader earlier, I was able to simply restart the flashing process, and it completed successfully.
I hope this helps. BTW, I think you're referring to HSDPA, a high-speed download upgrade to UMTS.
i've made the CID to SUperCID using CIDhack v3.0 from pof. (Software results said it was successfully changed CID to SuperCID)
Can I lock this SuperCID status forever?
Where can i find the OS-only ROMs? I can only see available full ROMs in http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
Is there a instruction on how to use mtty or putty? I find myself hard to follow how to enter those commands and verify certain values in bootloader. e.g. CID infomation
As for flashing the dopod rom on the cingular, you can do that. I have an Imate JasJam i bought overseas and i'm using it in the US with cingular. I've flashed 2 different cingular roms on it with no problems (other than the video call being disabled but thats not functioning in america.) My JasJam is SuperCID.
Hope this helps, as to not seeing the network you need, don't know whats causing that. Have you put the Band Selection to auto under phone settings?

As I stated earlier, the OS-only ROMs are WM6, so look under the Cooked ROMs section. Once you've made your device SuperCID it will stay SuperCID unless something goes horribly wrong and your CID gets corrupted (which wouldn't be a problem if you have Hard-SPL)

First of all. I'd like to thank all the guys replied to my message. I am very happy to announce that my Cingular 8525 is now working in Australia with Optus GSM network.
Here is the steps I had:
1) using pof's "Free HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlocker New version v3" tool to change the CID to SuperCID
2) Because my original SPL version on the phone is 1.06. So I downloaded Cingular 1.04 firmware and upgraded via USB in bootloader mode. (I wasnt sure if i needed this step even thou I had made CID to SuperCID, but I was thinking of using Cingular 1.04 before I change it to other OS)
3) downloaded JasJam 1.04 firmware and upgraded via USB again
4) Now there is some extra options in Network Tab, most importantly there is a Band tab for user to select between GSM and WCDMA network. I then selected Optus of course...
5) Mission accomplished!
Again, Thanks guys!! thank you so much for helping me out.
Now there are several things that I am still unsure about:
1) Did I Hard-SPL the CID already using pof's "Free HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlocker New version v3"?
2) How can I type in commands in bootloader mode to check status? via mtty or ssh? if so, which address and port number i should connect to? what User name and PW to use.
3) The Jasjam firmware I used was "I-mate English CDL__001 1.20.305.3 07/21/06 1.20.305.104 1.07.03.10 32.41.7010.02H 14955.2.3.0 2.3 1.04 107 ". According to the specs "32.41.7010.02H " I shold have HSDPA because the number ends with a "H". But I can only select between Auto, GSM and WCDMA. So where has the HSDPA gone to?

1) No. Hard-SPL is a modified bootloader flashed onto your device. It shows SPL version 1.10 Oli or the new version 2 Hard-SPL shows 1.11 Oli (I assume).
2) You must use mtty or a similar serial communications program. SSH is a completely different protocol, and has absolutely nothing to do with this. You do not need a username or password to access the Hermes through mtty.
3) HSDPA is an upgrade to UMTS. UMTS is based on WCDMA, so that is what you should choose.

when you mention serial communication, I can actually use USB connection right?
I found this info in one of the latest WM6 rom info on this forum, details as below:
------- Starts here ------------------
WM6 for Hermes LVSW Edition (2007-03-20)
(WM6 Pro Style)
IPL: 1.01
SPL: 1.09
GSM: 1.34.00.10 (very stable with my RomUpdate!!!)
OS: 3.23.0.0
Splash: Black HTC Splash (thanks, Incorrect!)
------- Ends here ------------------
Noted the SPL there is 1.09...
Does it mean if I flash this OS to my phone.. it will change my SPL from 1.04 (current) to 1.09?

It's a serial communications protocol. Besides, USB=Universal Serial Bus

Yes, the newest LVSW ROM comes with a bootloader (1.09) and a radio ROM (1.34). People are requesting an OS-only update from him because we like to have our own BL and radio ROMs. I have a feeling he'll upload one soon, if he hasn't already.
If I want to flash my 8525 with the following image:
Dopod English http://dict.leo.org/en.gif DOPOD001 1.30.707.4 08/22/06 ?? 1.20.31.10 32.52.7020.00H 14955.2.3.0 2.3 1.06 107
so..two questions (maybe stupid noobie questions):
1) will my SPL be affected after I've run Hard-SPL before flashing?
2) Do I need to run Hard-SPL everytime before I flash my phone?
I don't think you're getting what I'm saying. The SPL, as referred to in this context, is the bootloader. It is arguably the most important part of the firmware because it is the first thing that starts up and then loads the radio and OS components. Hard-SPL is a hacked bootloader made by xda-dev member Olipro, which forgoes certain security checks and allows us to flash ROMs we would not ordinarily be able to flash. Does that make sense so far?
Next, you're asking about an official ROM upgrade from Dopod. All official ROM upgrades (except for one, a German radio-only upgrade) include a bootloader, radio, OS, and ExtROM. So if you flash an official ROM, your current bootloader - be it Hard-SPL or anything else - will be overwritten.
That's why I think it's safer to flash individual updates instead of full ones, so that only the things you want to be overwritten will be overwritten and everything else will be as it was before.
If you flash that Dopod ROM, you will have SPL-1.06, radio 1.20, and their OS and ExtROM customizations. If you already have Hard-SPL installed, it will be overwritten by SPL-1.06.
Please reread this whole thread carefully before posting a response.
I have called t-mobile USA and they will unlock my phone, my guess is that it is just the sim but I requested both phone and sim. Any one up on this? Also I have read everything about the unlocking but I have one thing Im not clear on, if its a G4 or G3 it depends on the zero count on the firmware ect. When turning on the Tmob MDZA with 2.26 I just installed from Tmobile last week,
I read some discousion that tmobile was hard to get the info to see if you have a G3 or G4 it didn'tll the zeros there was talk of going in to Bootstrap mode but no talk about how to get out of bootstrap of your not going through with a flash.
I just need to get this out of the way befor I see what my options are for flashing.
It reads
IPL 2.26
SPL 2.26
GSM 2.25.11
OS 2.26.10.2
In the Settings/device info it says
OM Version 2.26.10.2 WWE
ROM Date 6/7/06
Radio Version02.25.11
Protocall Version 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version 2.26.10.105
Many thanks
Ken
You have a G3. If you had a G4 your IPL/SPL would be 2.26.0001 +/- one of those 0's in the .0001 can't remember for sure at the moment but a G3 wont have any of them. I'm not sure where you read that it is difficult to see for sure, it shows your IPL/SPL on the boot screen right after you reboot your phone. You don't need to go into the bootloader for that. As for your other question, T-mobile will sim unloack your phone, but they won't CID unlock it for you. If you want to do that, you should either do it yourself after reading through the CID unlock thread about 3 or 4 times to make sure you fully understand what you're doing or use IMEI-check.

Thanks, just what I wanted to here, yes I have read & read, I print this info out and read it again, I will take it one step at a time.
Ken
No problem. It's always a good idea to print that stuff out so you can have it sitting right there in front of you while you do it.
Good Luck.
Hi There,
I have a T-Mobile MDA (US version), I believe it's called a Vario.
I've been researching on how to unlock it to use with other carriers. I think I have a problem since the start screen shows the following:
IPL: 2.26
SPL: 2.26
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.26.10.2
I've attached an image of the start screen.
How do I unlock? What version of Lokiwiz etc do I use?
Do I have to down grade first to lower versions of IPL/SPL etc?
Could someone please help me.
Thank You very much.
Read the Software upgrading thread, and there should be stickys there.
The best thing to do is read, no one is going to do it for you, your are the one that is going to unlock your phone
Oh and boost mobile is IDEN and CDMA only so you wont have any luck on that the wizard is GSM only
Hey ultraprimeomega ,
Thank you for your reply.
I did read through all the threads.. it was very confusing.
From what I know, if I use the version of Lokiwiz that everyone uses my MDA will brick.
Thus I'm trying to find what version I can use with my IPL: 2.26 / SPL: 2.26 phone.
I believe MetroPCS will be able to give me a SIM for my GSM MDA.
I'm handing the MDA to a friend who wants to move from a contract to a month to month service due to her financial situation.
In any case, I want to be able to unlock the phone before I give it up.
I am reading up, but if you happen to know which, please do let me know it'll cut down my search time and ambiguity a lot.
Thank You.
First thing is that you do have a G3 device(best version i think no draw backs or limitations)
Go here and read all of it, i just read it and seems overkill, but just read
when i did it, it was easy to read posts because most were just noobs not retarded
so after a few years this place has more post that are pointless and the good post are in archive maybe
Faria, Loki, Dr. Putt, molski...and before M$ told us to remove the roms off the FTP good old days........lol
You seem like a noob so tell you what just pim me if you have a question and i will reply asap
because the post is confusing even for me
I have the same device, when I unlocked it the IPL didn't changed (2.17) but the SPL gone to 3.08, there's no way for me to change that IPL...
