Messaging button quirk...

I just bought an 8525. Sometimes, when I hit the messaging button (hard button) the title bar changes to say "Text Messaging" or whatever, but the Today Screen still shows. If I close the messaging app, then hit the hard button again, it'll open correctly. I also notice duplicate notifications in MemMaid for tmail.exe after this happens
SPB Diary 2.2, SPB Pocket Plus 3.1.2, Egress 3.1, MemMaid 1.72
Right now only checking 2 email accounts: hotmail and .mac (now through POP, though had the same quirk when setup as IMAP).
Tried the fake server trick, still happening. I'm curious what's causing it. Could it be SPB Diary or Pocket Plus? I have the close button enabled in Pocket Plus.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I think it may all have to do with SPB Pocket Plus. Cuz last night.... it froze up. And I read the threads relating to that. I think they're linked. Gonna hard reset and start afresh and see what happens.

I don't have any of the programs you listed and I have this same problem on my TyTn. I find it very annoying....

I also have this little bug and noticed it ever since I upgraded to SPB Diary 2x.
My bug is a little different though. When it happens, if I go to the today screen, I can't select any of the diary stuff. It's as if the touch screen there stops functioning.
So to get it working, I have to tap the date or something at the top and then exit that. Now I'm able to select the diary items. Then I have to tap and hold the blue message tab and select go to inbox to have it show properly.

The messaging key bug has been around for a while. I had it with me 8125 and it is in my 8525.
If you check the wizard forum you will see no one has every found out what was causeing this.

Ugh... I had it on my 8125 too... its part of the reason I upgraded to the 8525 (the other part is that my 8125 took a tumble onto the concrete. )
Oh well... hopefully it'll go away with the next ROM upgrade.

same problem here with imate jasjam with jasjam wwe ROM. even when its stock, no other apps installed, same problem happens.
what i have noticed is that once you load up messenging and minimize it (not shut it down), then the messeging button works everytime.
otherwise if messeging is always closed, the hard button has an intermittent problem

So my buddy bought his 8525 a week after I bought mine. Granted, he doesn't have any of the programs I have on his... but he's NEVER had that happen to him.
I had a thought... who uses Hotmail/PocketMSN? I wonder if the "Download Mail Automatically" setting has anything to do with it. I just turned it off. We'll see.
I'm wondering if it's my phone itself. I still got a week before the exchange period is up.
Anybody hear anything new about this?

Okay... I did three things yesterday and all of them could be the culprit. (However now I'm having other problems so I'm gonna hard reset and start again.)
This is what I did... see if it helps:
1. Turned off "Download Mail Automatically" for Hotmail in Pocket MSN. (Maybe hotmail hangs during a disconnect or something?) - This still may be it.
2. Turned off scheduled checks (30 mins) for my .Mac IMAP account. (Which I never had a problem with... but maybe it hangs during a disconnect?) - It seems that as long as I don't schedule Pocket Outlook to go fetch mail everything is okay... the second I set a schedule the quirk pops up.
3. Removed the Messages tab from PocketBreeze. Since a lot of these troubles seem to be related to Diary or PocketBreeze, I wonder if there's some conflict between POutlook and the "Inboxes" in the messaging tab.) - This has nothing to do with it.

Since it's working now... I'm gonna at least let it be stable for 1 day and see what happens.

FIXED: ActiveSync Trouble - won't connect

Today my ActiveSync connection stopped working.
It tries to connect for a while then it comes up with "ActiveSync cannot connect to the Windows Mobile powered device. ..."
WM5torage works, so does pinging the Wizard.
Things I tried:
-Using the repair option from Active Sync setup
-Reverting the Wizard to a 3 day old backup made with SPB
Nothing worked :-(
What else (other than a hard reset) could I try?
See below for solution. And don't touch the notification queue if you don't know what you're doing

check if you firewall is blocking the activesync connection
if this is not the case ... good luck

try reinstalling activesync..
or get the latest one..

Install this cab application and select serial instead of RNDIS, just tap at YES button, and activesync will work perfect

Activesync gone mad
I am having the same problem with activesync not actually syncing my contacts and calender despite making all the noises I usually associate with a successful sync. My contacts are not updated and my calender has none of the appointments from outlook uploaded to it.
I have done a soft reset. a hard reset, gone back to activesync 4.2 and nothing works. I have also tried the usb switch that is mentioned elsewhere and no joy. I have other ppc's running PPC2003 and these are fine and update almost immediately, its only my xda mini s that is being a sod. I never had a problem before activesync 4 and several other machines before the mini s. I should also mention that my outlook files are fine and work on all other machines.
It is bad business that the world is becoming dependant on such bad software as this. It is not progress to make things worse and Mr Gates should be held to task for the problems caused from forcing us onto unreliable software in the name of progress. I was happy enough on activesync 3.8 and WM2003 and never had problems.
Please, Please someone give me an answer before hammer and xda meet in heated discussion.

I have the same problem with my MDA and both my PC and Laptop. I have been trying to resolve this problem for months. It is unbelievable that it is so hard to resolve this issue. I have been posting on this forum and on others and still am looking for a resolution. Maybe someday, someone will resolve this issue. Thanks for your postings and help in trying to resolve this issue. Frustrated beyond belief.

Update to previous
Just an update. I have tried this on another machine using the pst file from my machine and it syncs fine. Clearly, there is some problem on my machine with my software.
I have also removed outlook and reinstalled it. Also removed all profiles on main machine. At present, my calendar will sync but my contacts will not. Outlook tests say there is nothing wrong. Short of a complete software install I can not see another way to cure this other than the big hammer.
Go figure.
p.s.
If I had a hammer and Mr Gates was in front of me I would not be held responsible for my actions.

I found a corporate firewall that was preventing sync, I have to shut down the service and then it worked. Strangly, it would sync over bluetooth without stopping the service. A bit OT, but I can't seem to browse while synced. It asks for proxy info which I type in but it says bad user name/password. I KNOW I'm putting in the right proxy info (it defaulted it from my PC which browses fine) and correct user name/pw/domain. Any ideas?

FIXED
No firewall, no ActiveSync, no connection problems at all.
Fixed it by reverting my database to a backup.
When i had the well known alarm clock troubles i accidentially (= out of ignorance) deleted the whole notification queue.
Word of advice: Don't do that, it'll screw everything up

2.What does it have to do with ActiveSync connectivity?
3.How is Notification queue set to make AS work?
Still cannot resolve my connectivity problem with my MDA. Thanks in advance.

Is this related to the inability to pass-through browse while on activesync? I am able to sync fine, but when I try to browse I get an error saying bad proxy info (which I've check 1000 times). Or sometimes when I'm messing around with the settings I get a "lost connection" message rather than the invalid login/password. So frustrating! Will switching to the serial type of connection help me?

ActiveSync must be one of the most frustrating applications out there. I have tried all recommended fixes and still cannot get ActiveSync to recognize my MDA. The last time I did a sync was 9/06. Too much BS using this application. I have searched all over the web and cannot find any application that will allow me to update my PIM file without ActiveSync. So, I guess I will finally give up on this. Thanks to all of you who have tried to help me. Thank You!!

8528 Running extremely slow! Its having a major meltdown! Please help!

I am ready to throw my phone against the wall!
All of a sudden about 2 days ago my phone began to run extremely slow. I cant even describe how slow it was. If I tried to send a 8 word text and after the 4th letter or so it would simply stop recognizing keyboard input. Its acting like its low on ram but I have plenty of memory. If I let it sit, turned on, for a 10 mins or so it might finally show the text so I could then send it. Also, the internet stopped working and it wouldnt connect to my email server (hotmail). I did a hard reset, soft reset and nothing worked. Its acting like it has a virus or something.
Cut to today, I thought I could just reflash it with Black Satin Medium and it would fix everything. It always seemed like a good program and I never had any problems before so I thought I could just reinstall it. It was fine for about an hour and now its moving slow again. I dont know if it could have been one of the .cabs I installed but they are the same cabs I had on my phone for months before it flipped out 2 days ago.
So please help! I use my phone for everything and right now it is unusable!
Once I get that part figured out I need help to figure out how I can get my contacts back onto my 8525. I have flashed my phone before but they always appeared right back onto my phone when I was done. It was effortless. And now I cant figure out how to get my contacts back. On Activesync, when I go to Tools, Options, then try to select Contacts as an item to sync I get a message that says "Activesync cannot synchronize Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes, because outlook is not installed on Windows PC. To Sync Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes do the following: Disconnect the device, Install and run outlook, and then reconnect the device and try again."
But I have outlook on my PC and 8525. I never use either of them but they are there.
Lastly, and this is another big annoyance, any time I connect my 8525 to my laptop the clock on my phone jumps ahead 3 hours exactly. The time on my computer is the current time and so is the time on my phone. but everytime it jumps forward.

Hi Jim,
1. Hermes is a good device - don't do that with some patience everything will be fine.
2. In such a situation I will go to a major upgrade. Flash new radio e.g. 1.54, and maybe try some of new ROMs - Schap'a or Shamanix
- dont rush to install any cabs first, just see how the device performs for some time. Try syncing with your pc to see can you get the contacts on the devide
- it could be that some of the cabs got corrupted. maybe make sense to download them anew.
- start installing the cabs one by one, with significant time and usage between the installations - you can figure out which one is causing the problem
3. before start syncing for first time, just delete all mobile devices on PC activesync -- >File>Delete Mobile Device
4. Check your regional and clock settings
Have you installed any other software from your PC? I use to have similar problems with early versions of WM6 after installing CE-Star (Asian languages support)
Let me konw how the device performs

PS. It is recomended after fresh flash of ROM to hardreset the device imediatley and only then start installations od applications

I just installed Schap's WM6 Pro 4.20 ROM and its running much better. It looks to be a great program. I wish the clock wasnt so huge but it all seems to run great.
I still cant get my contacts to sync though. When I put my device name in there and connect using activesync it keeps changing the device name to WM_Owner.
Im playing with it. Any more suggestions could be helpful.
The regional settings were off. So the clock is now good.

Glad to hear that the device start running better
re sync issue - did you delete all mobile devices on Microsoft ActiveSync? after that you should be able to establishe a new partnership between the PC and PPC - then everything must work fine

But if i delete all of my mobile devices it will erase my saved info then my contacts will be lost for ever wont they?

You dont delete any info on your PC, only the partnership between PC and Pocket PC. This will not affect your contacts. After that should establish a new partnership - choosing all settings etc., and everything must be fine.
WARNING! Better first archive your contacts and then proceed.

I deleted one of the two relationships, WM_Owner, and it deleted the folder on my pc with all the info in it. I haven't deleted the WM_James_Klafe2 relationship yet because that's the one that should have all my contact info it it. that was the name of my phone before I installed schap's 4.2
I have it backed up, should I just delete it and see what happens when I reconnect it? should I name my 8525 WM_James_Klafe2 again?
I hate creating more clutter but I started a new thread that specially relates to this problem.

Hi Jimbo69ny,
Personally I test almost every new rom for Hermes, and every time there is a new rom on my device I do three things:
1. name the phone - e.g. WM_James_Klafe2
2. delete partnerships on the PC - do not do any backup etc.
3. establishing new partnership between the pc and ppc
thats all!
All my contacts are synced with no problem, including notes, and other stuff defined for synchronization. in fact your contacts are stored in outlook, and deleteing the partnership do not affects them at all

so what if I don't have outlook installed anymore? does that mean I lost my contacts? does someone a copy of office that has outlook in it someone could send me?

Damn it Ive been having one problem after another with my 8525 just when I think things are going good there is another set back.
My phone wont sync to my computer anymore. I have Schaps 4.20 installed and I installed the cube earlier today just to see what it was like because I was going to upgrade to shaps 4.3. I really liked it but I its more than I need. Now its time to upgrade and when I connect my phone to my pc i get a message that says "usb device not recognized"
What the heck is going on?
I uninstalled the cube from my ppc did 2 soft resets, restarted my computer and it still wont recognize my pcc

After two hard resets I finally got it to accept Shaps 4.3 rom. It still wouldnt do it after the 1st and 2nd hard reset but for some reason, the last time I connected it via usb, it worked.
THANK GOD! I dont know what happened and why it wouldnt connect but Im happy I fixed.
Still no contacts though

to best of my knowledge the contacts are stored in outlook. if do not have outlook on your pc i cant say what activesync will sync - my assumption is that you have, as you was able to sync some time ago, dont you?
(on my secnd pc i have outlook express and it syncs too with no problems)
which Cube you have installed? I never had such kind of problems with any cube.
the problem "usb device not recognized" happens from time to time - no idea about the exact reason. sometime it is enough to disconnect the device and connect it again, in few cases i needed to restart the computer - and then it worked with no problems. never did hardreste.
I am confused that you still cannot get your contacts synced. i guess you followed the steps i gave you previously
let me know how you forward
btw, try focussing on one issue only - get first your contacts synced

WMDC syncing issue.

I don't know if this is the correct forum for my problem, if not please don't flame me
I've been looking all over the web, but haven't been able to find a sollution to my syncing issue. This issue didn't occur on my Diamond 2, Touch Dual or any other phone. Don't think it's a HD2 issue though...
When my HD2 is connected to my laptop via the desktop cradle, it of course syncs with my Outlook 2010 (beta testing).
Everything syncs very well, except for one thing which is really annoying.
It just keeps on syncing and syncing the calendar with 1 error, over and over again and again... (you get the picture)
When I open Outlook to see what it's having trouble syncing, it looks like it's trying to insert a "half hour appointment" during "today" with no name, content or anything. It keeps inserting it, and then removing it, and inserting it, and removing it, and inserting it and so forth...
Does anyone have this issue, or hopefully a sollution!?

Installed applications that are using the .pst calendar file from Outlook:
- Rainlendar
- WMDC
- DeskTasks
Here is what I've tried:
Reinstalled WMDC...
Reinstalled Windows Mobile Device driver...
Deleted the partnership and then made a new one...
Deleted the syncing-tasks (calendar, notes and so forth) and then set them up again...
Banged my head on my desk...
Chewed a corner off of my keyboard...
PS: I've tried to "catch it" with a screenshot, but it's only in my calendar for a split second.

Hmmm...
Apparently there is also an entry it can't sync.
The entry is from a former installation of Manilla Birthday, but it's no longer in the calendar. Wonder how I'm supposed to delete it, when I can't see it...!?
Anyone got some input on this?

Dash 3G memory full issue

I upgraded to 6.5 on my stock 6.1 Dash. Everything is working fine except sometimes when I have the phone on for say a half day or so (not exact), a notice comes up saying that my memory is full, delete messages.
When I check device info, it shows I've got 25MB+ left on the flash. Is this some sort of known memory leak?
I've only installed Windows Live, Office Communicator and that's it. My work uses Exchange Server. I didn't have this issue with 6.1. When the memory is full, I think I'm missing text messages as it tells the sender that it's undeliverable to me.
Any clue? TIA!

You could try SKtools lite and clean out your notifications and temporary and cache folders. That's what I used for the old dash. Seems like using your exchange server or keeping all your text messages is causing this. I would download it. It's freeware.

I installed and ran it. Then I rebooted it. I'll let you know if I continue to get the notification about full memory. Thank you for your help!

I'm still getting the memory is full delete messages. I don't have that many messages in there!
