Erratic Backlight behaviour on startup - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Apologies if this has been asked already but I've spent a while looking for an answer to my woes without success.
I have a Qtek 9100 from Vodafone UK
THe ROM Version is 2.17.7.2WWE
with a ROM date of 2/10/06
I have loaded the following onto it:
SBSH Pocket Weather
Magic Button
Opera
Sprite Backup
Total Commander
PocketMax Phonealarm
I have previously added lots of stuff had a number of white screens and have now settled down to a base set up that I have backed up and restore from
Unfortunately though at some point I have done something which results in the Backlight control panel launching everytime I do a soft reset and now this is really starting to annoy me.
I've looked in the startup folder but to no avail.
Is there something really obvious I have done that I can't think of???
Any help gratefully received by this newbie...

Unwanted Input Method

Hi,
I downloaded the free version of FingerClix from clubimate (supposedly 100% discount for clubimate registered users). However, the package I received was titled fingerclix, but contained the Arabic input method.
I've removed the package again, but I've still got an input method at the bottom of the list which is shown as squares (since I don't have the correct font I assume) and I can't find any obvious file to remove or registry key to delete.
Anyone know how to unregister an unwanted input method?
Thanks
Anyone? or is it hard reset time?
Phil
Hi mate,
I had the same prob. Try to install a freeware called "remover". It's a great app and it will let u uninstall completely all the programs that u don't want anymore.
Hi Phil,
This is strange. I've been using Finger Clix for some time now and there is no sign of this program in the input methods. I checked my registry and there is a key in hkey_local_machine\software\apps\Imaginet finger clix. If it is still at your machine. Just delete it.
There is another one in: hkey_local_machine\software\apps\Controlpanel\finger clix.
Maybe there a more but I found those two.
Just give it a try.
Wouter
Hi,
The problem has been solved in a roundabout way by the fact that I just got home and found my imate won't boot at all even though it was OK an hour ago (the same old prob I've seen reported before, where you take the battery out for a few seconds, put it back and the imate boots, but it's hard reset). :-(
@wouterk: It's not actually Fingerclix, but the distribution of it from clubimate seems to be incorrect (arabic input method instead).
@elio: Thanks, I'll give Remover a try.
Phil
OK, Too bad for you that you had another hard reset. Did you try the 1.72 ROM already?
WOuter
Hi,
I'm waiting for the clubimate release of 1.72, rather than go with the t-mobile beta version, my imates only a couple of months old, so no point invalidating the warranty.
It's only the second time it's done it, so I'm not too worried.
Phil
OK. Just in case. I found the last two ROM which I used not very good. The turning on/off of the radio was terrible and so was the bluetooth sometimes. With this ROM those problems are gone. But if you have no problems, don't worry, be happy!
Wouter
Hi,
Yeah I got mine with 1.66 on it already, but it's not apparently very good (not that I don't love my imate, kicks the crap out of my p900 + iPaq 3970 combo).
Clubimate have said that 1.72 should be out very soon, I just wish it fixed the cleartype!
I don't mind hard resets so much, I just resync or restore Sprite 3.0 backup, it's the reinstalling all the apps that annoys me - Kirara Genesis, PocketInformat, Fonix, PocketPlus, SideX/PhoneX, Resco Explorer/Picture, Sprite Backup, 1-calc, Space Reclaimer, ARRGHH! and don't forget 60MB worth of games

Touch Screen irresponsive

Hi,
I just upgraded to 1.06.00 wwe on my machine. The upgrade seems to have gone well, and the machine is working fine (except the speaker prob that I posted about in another thread).
But after I restore from the xbackup job that I did before the ROM upgrade, the touch screen becomes irresponsive, and doesn't react at all.
Any tips, ideas or comments?
Seems like there were registry setting that had been changed/added. I managed to fix it this way:
* Export the registry right after a hard reset (using tascal regedit)
* Export the registry right after the xBackup restore (digitizer not responding, but I can control the machine using ActiveSync Display powertoy)
* Import the hard rest registry file
* Soft reset (now the screen is responding)
* Import the post backup registry file
This make sure that any registry settings added after the ROM update are included in the registry, but all my personal customizations before the upgrade are there.
I didn't try to identify the registry setting more, but I have both .reg files and I can diff them.
I've got the same problem yesterday. Did you get it to work again? If yes can you desribe the way to do it a little more please.
Regards
Hey
I do not know about you guys but I think it is a memory issue.
In the early days I had this problem with pre-SE ROMs when I had loads of applications at startup and running in the background after using any particular program for a long time the screen alignment seems to go bezerk.
My solution was to remove unnecessary startup apps and keep back-office ones to minimum.
No such problems with WM2003SE so far.
I have also upgraded to the ROM (I wish I didn't). I am using sprite backup which does indeed back everything up successfully but once backed up the touch screen becomes very slow.
I tried to backup and then restore the registry but this touch screen is still really slow. I have to hold the stylus in place for about 3 seconds. The only way I can think of getting around this is once you have upgraded the jam is to reinstall everything.
Oh and the camera is indeed worse with the new ROM
I've got the exact same problem...

Back-ups --- Quick fix needed please!!!

Hello,
My screen decided to crack for no real reason. Honest.
So o2 being the lovely people they are are sending me a new phone (exec).
It arrives tomorrow and I have to send my broken one back.
Quick question needing a quick fix (ie next hour or so...?!?!):
I would like to save / download my texts before sending the phone back. Now I know there have been loads of posts like this, but I am at work and simply do not have the time to trawl through the posts to find the answers.
Can anyone take 5 mins to tell me where I can find a simple to use, free program that can save my texts? Please???
Thanks
HPJ
try spb backup. I use this and THINK it does text messages.
or copy each text message to notepad
orsend each text message to a friends phone
or try sprite backup
I had same problem and for me SPB didn't work correctly Soo, I'm not impressed with SPB.
It can backup texts and all the rest, but have some problems restoring them ;(
I've tried 4 different backups
Good luck!
Cheers!
Chris
Hi,
Sprite have just released a new version of their software (v5.1) and solves alot of issues with wm5.
Might help.
Matt
Spb Backup (latest version 1.1.2) works perfectly for me - no problem whatsovere backing up and restoring sms text messages. emails, etc.
Thanks everyone I'll get onto it!
got my new qtec 9000 but it seems slower than my XDA exec, whats up with that????
anyway is there a way to backup everything!!!
so say i need to hard reset i can just load my backup and it will put all my progs, reg hacks etc settings all back to the way it was before the hardreset? without having to do any reinstalling etc????
I know it's probably too late by now but just in case...
You could use Jeyo Mobile Extender which is an add-on for Outlook - this will sync all your SMS messages into Outlook - it's on the top of my list for software to buy in the future the demo is fully functional for 14 days i think and should do exactly what you want.
Cheers,
Smiffy.

SPB does this perfectly, and i have had any problem with its usage, even during beta. others prefer sprite... whatever turns you on.
for SPB, yes, you can do a full back up, completely hard reset your device, and do a full restore and walla back to original condition, only question is, why did you hard reset it if you want it back to original condition.
so i have created:
1. virgin device - settings, tweaks, hacks and over bare bones device, with absolute essential software installed, registered and licensed such as Resco, SPB backup and other mission criticals.
2. perfect device - all desirable applications, settings, folder and software preferences, licensed, registered and running, but no active sync
3. two backups automated per week so that if i accidentally drop it, or do something stupid like dodgy software, I have a choice of 4 restore points (last two backups, perfect or virgin) depending on what i want.
hope it helps.
great info mte!
i need a backup coz my first xda exec had to be returned due to dead cam light, my current qtec one wont active sync until iv done a hard reset so m guessing its not liking something iv done, plus thats going back as iv noticed the camera has around 30 dead pixels.
hwever if i make a bacup of my device now will it also take the problems with it? ie the activ sync problem?
oh and i ant decide wether i like the silver or black qtec 9000 whats ur guys thoughts? currently on a black one with red keyboard leds
oh and if u aint noticed iv got a brand new imate k jam for sale incase anyones interested

Help please, I have lost my phone dialer screen

Hello
Sorry that my 1st post is a request but I have messed up my new phone.
I have just received a new SPV M600 from Orange UK, being new I have played with it, installing and uninstalling software adding and removing themes etc.
I had a nice skin combination from
http://www.zombienexus.net/portal
My phone had his black qvga reptile today screen and phone dialer screen, this went well with the phone being black. Anyway I decided to remove both of them just to try a new contrasting colour. The today screen recovered ok, but I have lost the phone dialer. I can not recover either the default WM5 dialer, nor the Orange modified dialer, I am left with a large white screen and a phone on which you can not dial.
I believe the phone is located in the registry under HKLM\SECURITY\PHONE\SKIN
But I do not know what to do now in order to recover the default dialer. I have contacted zombienexus, but they could not help.
If I have to Hard Reset, apart from losing everything that I put on the phone, will it damage it in anyway, or remove the setup I received from Orange? I do not want to void the guarantee or insurance on this phone.
Thanks.
I am not sure how to recover your dialer, but let me assure you that aside from loosing personal data and any apps you (yourself) installed on the device there will be no harm.
Hard reset simply restores the device to factory defaults. Since all Orange customization is in the (extended) ROM it will recover as well.

Thanks for the reply. Funny thing though. I thought that maybe it was just another microsoft bug, so I set and reset the registry value DWORD 'Enabled' back and forth, from 0 to 1, soft resetting between each change.
On the 6th attempt at 0 the default WM5 dialer returned, however, I still cannot recover the modified Orange dialer. No big loss though, as I never liked it anyway. It was the Orange dialer that made me skin the phone in the first place.
Thanks
Look in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=48325&highlight=
There are several very nice dialler skins in there. I'm using an O2 themed one (even though I'm on Orange)
Here's what my skin looks like:
Hello Again
Despite losing my Orange dialer I am very happy now. I have installed Wisbar Deluxe and skinned the phone again using the themes from http://www.zombienexus.net/portal/.
This time I have gone with the dark blue reptile, theming the phone dialer, today screen and Wisbar.
The phone looks great, and one benefit I was not expecting from third party software, Wisbar is lightning fast. Everytime I click on a program or a folder it opens instantly, before with windows controlling its own programs there was always a lag. I would have thought that it would have been even slower with software over the top, but it is very fast.
Heres the new themes I highly recommend them.
Thanks

Power off when machine resumed screen hangs

Dear All,
I have a problem on my JASJAR when you "Power off" the machine or have the Power under Settings checked to "Turn off device if not used for x minutes" then when you resume the screen appears but it will not respond to input. You can however ring the JASJAR and it will answer.
Anyone got any ideas??
ROM Versio: 1.30.76 WWE

Radio version: 1.09.00

ExtROM version: 1.30.164 WWE
thanks in advance.

Hey bro, I have got the same problem as yours. But My PPC Phone is Dopod 900. My Dopod 900 sometimes also gets freeze when I receive a SMS. Please help us ?
Maybe you have a program running on your Today screen that jams things up. Try to remove any Today plugins and see what happens.

I've done what you told, but my problem isn't solved. Are there any possibility that my Dopod 900's ROM is unstable ? Do you think I should upgrade my ROM cos my ROM have never been updated ? For your info mine are :
ROM Version : 1.13.69 WWE
ROM Date : 10/12/05
Radio Version : 1.04.02
i think everybody has this problem with the uni.
me too.
in other threads on this forum it has been explained that this happens because of the auto scalling of the processor speed.
a solution is to install pocket hack master and to disable the auto scaling feauture and there was more. use the search and you will find the sollution.
my problem is that after installing PHM, i can't get into the Speed Configuration area to test the stable speeds for my device.
all other areas can be accessed but this one can't.
don't know what's wrong with my uni!!!??
Everyone,
I had the same problem, and found out MY culprit: WisBar advance! Since it was installed in the SD Card, I think the seek time on the car wasn't quick enough for powerup. At one point I just had the machine on all the time so it wouldn't hang. I reinstalled WisBar Advance to main memory...BAM! Powers on like a charm...every time!
Hope this helps,
Marc
Wisbar hmm
I also use Wisbar and think it might be the problem. Sometimes it hangsand sometime it doesn't. But then it will hang and the top portion (taskbar I think?) will display my theme and nothing else below it, and will have to soft reset and even after soft resetting it will hang on the password screen; but on that screen its the default WM5 theme. I'm also trialing PhoneAlarm and believe it might have some issues as well. On the PA forum there is a link to one of the moderators on THIS site who gave some good advice on possible conflicts. It seems on my device there is copy of Wisbar on my SD card as well as my device if I delete the copy on my card will that affect the hanging?
I think it's probably best to uninstall from main memory and the card, and reinstall to memory. (Make a backup copy of your themes directory on your SD card first)
It may be that WM5 doesn't know which location to load from. I have not had one problem since moving WBA to memory.
Let me know if it works for you.
Thanks for the tip, moved WBA to main memory and no hanging at all on power off or on. Thanks again. Now if I can get Googlemaps not to hang on screen rotation this will be perfect.
Great news, Harry. I keep all my themes on my card and copy them over to the memory only when I want to change one. This saves on space.
