I just upgraded to 1.06.00 wwe on my machine. The upgrade seems to have gone well, and the machine is working fine (except the speaker prob that I posted about in another thread).
But after I restore from the xbackup job that I did before the ROM upgrade, the touch screen becomes irresponsive, and doesn't react at all.
Any tips, ideas or comments?
Seems like there were registry setting that had been changed/added. I managed to fix it this way:
* Export the registry right after a hard reset (using tascal regedit)
* Export the registry right after the xBackup restore (digitizer not responding, but I can control the machine using ActiveSync Display powertoy)
* Import the hard rest registry file
* Soft reset (now the screen is responding)
* Import the post backup registry file
This make sure that any registry settings added after the ROM update are included in the registry, but all my personal customizations before the upgrade are there.
I didn't try to identify the registry setting more, but I have both .reg files and I can diff them.
I've got the same problem yesterday. Did you get it to work again? If yes can you desribe the way to do it a little more please.

I do not know about you guys but I think it is a memory issue.
In the early days I had this problem with pre-SE ROMs when I had loads of applications at startup and running in the background after using any particular program for a long time the screen alignment seems to go bezerk.
My solution was to remove unnecessary startup apps and keep back-office ones to minimum.
No such problems with WM2003SE so far.
I have also upgraded to the ROM (I wish I didn't). I am using sprite backup which does indeed back everything up successfully but once backed up the touch screen becomes very slow.
I tried to backup and then restore the registry but this touch screen is still really slow. I have to hold the stylus in place for about 3 seconds. The only way I can think of getting around this is once you have upgraded the jam is to reinstall everything.
Oh and the camera is indeed worse with the new ROM

Everytime i want to enter an url opera closes itself. I only have to press the first letter of the adress and opera closes.
Anyone got an idea how to fix this?
Consider yourself happy. On my Qtek 9000 / HTC Universal, Opera displays all URLs and HTML form content in a strange character set. It looks somewhat like chinese.
It seems that Opera is just not ready for prime time yet.
I'm waiting for MultiIE for WM 2005 - it worked extremely well on my older WM 2003 SE machine (a Qtek 9090 / HTC Blue Angel).
Another solution to add multi-window browsing is SPB Plus which works on WM 2005, but it's a lot less than perfect - it's Pocket IE integration makes Magic Button lock up, and we all know we can't live without Magic Button.
just copy the arial.ttf from a windows pc to your pocket pc's \windows\fonts directory and your problem is solved!

What ROM are you using?
first i was using the newest vodafone rom, now i am using the newest imate rom.
this happens with both roms!
from time to time I have the same problem.
don't know what is the cause, but I found a way to solve it: just clear your history (menu - tools - settings - advanced - clear history)

I had the same problem. It was made by cookies and addressbar history. Best thing you can do deleting cookies (and history, ,cache, temporary files..). This should resolve your problem. It resolved mine. You can use for that SKtools or MemMaid. Or you can clear those from opera options menu and delete all files from \Application Data\Opera\cache4 folder.

I have previously added lots of stuff had a number of white screens and have now settled down to a base set up that I have backed up and restore from
Unfortunately though at some point I have done something which results in the Backlight control panel launching everytime I do a soft reset and now this is really starting to annoy me.
I've looked in the startup folder but to no avail.
Is there something really obvious I have done that I can't think of???
Any help gratefully received by this newbie...
hello, I have a small problem, the past days I have installed a skin dial various from the usuals and hour quualunque skin I try to install leaves the settaggi me of the previous one even if I have already disinstallato that one that gave problem to me!! Hi, yes it is a bit hard to understand you, but I guess first off, what device do you have? if its a TyTN you can find the green dialer on the forum by searching "green dialer" or "tytn dialer" without the quotes.
Also when you try to uninstall the dialers you tried, what happens? does it not change at all, or does it become messed up..missing images etc?
hello, my device is a TyTN. has installed the DialSkin with granti keys Seen Windows type and has lost the functionalities to recall the last calls and the fast calls with the rotellina on the left of the Tytn. If disinstallo the Seen DialSkin Style and installs other Skin as an example these (http://www.zombienexus.net/portal/GL_Display.asp?SEC=3&EntryID=477) the push-buttons is all messed and with dimensions not corrected. Hi again, did you install the dialer skin to your device, and not on your storage card?
I have used the red reptile skin from there before with no problems, but something definitely messed up the registry settings, not sure if the uninstall failed or what, did you power off our device, and power it back on after uninstalling the skin?
I can't be of a whole lot of help, only 4 things I can recommend you try.
1. find the green tytn dialer on the forum, install it, and it should set the registry back if the settings are included in the cab.
2. get someone with an oem tytn rom to export their dialer registry, and import it to your device.
3. Unlock your extended rom with htc tweak, and rerun the customization cabs from there again, it should just overwrite, and not create duplicates.
4. hard reset.
I could take apart one of the skin cabs you installed to see what all has been changed if you want to upload it.
All of the standard/default images should still be on your device, the only thing that could be messed up really is the registry, and possibly the phcanhtc.dll

hello, I have sovrascritto the DLL with that one originates them, hour watching in the system registry I have noticed that the keys associated to the images bring back the names of the skin do not originate them. You have said (2, get to me someone with an oem tytn rom to export their dialer registry, and import it to your device.) that a way exists in order to export the keys from a registry of one rom and to import them in my TyTN without to rewrite them all. You can dirmi as I must make?

I have resolved the problem with Hard Reset the modifications brought from that one skin they were too many and they rendered the modification of many keys of the registry neccessario. A council. for how much beautiful one avoided to install it!!
My Duals menu text has corrupted, anyone know of a fix for this (that preferrably doesn't involve a hard reset and reloading all my software).
I have done a hard reset and it did fix it but as soon as I started loading progs on it, it corrupted, haven't been able to pin it down to a particular program yet either. Sort of losing the will to live with all these hard resets trying to fix it. Everything else works fine, I've sort of put up with it for awhile, but now it's really starting to bug me.
Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

Looks like something's over-written a system font. Do you know what apps you installed prior to it going again? If it was okay after the hard reset then I'd have a serious look at what you put on and in what order.
At first I thought it was Mahjongg, so I left that off a build, then I thought it was Windows Live.
Think I'll have to go back to very basics, was hoping someone might have a similiar prob and could point me in the direction of the system font. I'll post in here if I find out what program it was that did it.

Ok, so I did a number of hard resets and installed a few progs and did a few soft resets. Doesn't appear to be related to any particular program being installed.
I thought of trying the change font cabs that are floating around but they seem to have progressed the problen further and it's no longer just the TouchFlo cube it's now text on the calendar and text on the unlock screen.
Anyone point me in the direction of the original font used in WM6, I'm hoping loading that will overwrite any corruption, if not the problem could be a bit more deep seated, if all else fails I'll be looking for a recommendation for one of the Nike cooked ROM's instead.
Any pointers appreciated

Where can I find the system font on WM6, I've looked in the fonts folder, there's nothing there and none of the files in the root of WINDOWS look like fonts to me.

use sprite backup from the cd that came with it and then perform a hard reset what ever you do DO NOT add the windows folder to sprite backup using sprite backup wont delete data you choose and just run the file when u finish hard reset and wala u get all the files you chose to back up back

Just got the same picture but only in the Connection Manager and in the screen calibration utility. Instead of real words I see the same symbols like it was described and shown in the first message.
All other programs show normal fonts. I prefer to have HR as a last tool to correct this problem...
Anyway I have Sprite Backup installed. Hard Reset just for experiment restore normal view of fonts in the Connection Manager. Also when I try to restore some previous archive of Sprite (it scheduled to backup every night), it works fine with correct fonts 2-3 hours, and after that I see symbols instead of words...
I seems to me that fonts are overwritten by someone...
Anybody knows what font is used to display text in the Connection Manager and in the calibration screen (word SCREEN)? Where can I find correct font and what is the place in the Windows folder for that?

Touch Cruise / Polaris Hardware Buttons not working after 6.1 rom update
Having performed the above update the send, end, camera etc buttons and the scroll wheel have stopped working.
I have done an install of the official HTC WM 6.1 rom, this went fine, after installing the hard keys worked. However I then sync with both of my PCs after some messing around this went well also. I then started to install some of my apps.
I cant recall which one, but one of them has now stopped the hard keys from working.
I then did a soft reset, this did not help, then a hard reset which did restore the operation of the keys. Just to be sure that all was well I then reinstalled the same rom and exactly the same thing happened as above
Thus I think that one of the apps that I am installing is corrupting the hard keys within the software.
I am considering uninstalling the apps one by one with a soft rest after each one to see if I can get the keys working again and thus identify the problem app.
Can anyone offer any help or ideas?
Is there a way that I can remap the hard keys to override any conflicts? Or a registry edit for this, or a registry search for conflicts? I have tried adjusting these in start, settings, buttons but they still don’t work no matter what application I assign to them.
I know that it is not a hardware fault as when the hard reset is performed they work fine, also when I press the buttons the backlight comes on so they are working just not performing the assigned task

as you said, one of the app that you are installing after is causing a problem:
maybe it's not compatible with wm 6.1
It wolud be a good ideea to modify your thread to hardware buttons not working after install "xxx" app on wm 6.1
Many thanks for your reply, i have adjusted the thread title, i am not sure what App is causing the issue at present. I cant identify it at present as each time i am having to do a hard rest, it is taking me hours!
Managed to get this working, i uninstalled each of my apps one by one with a soft rest between until i found the one which then allowed the keys to work.
In my case it was my windows mobile remote desktop that was causing the issue

You should really put your solution up top and change your thread title. To most it would seem like they risk losing hardware button function if they upgrade to the oem WM 6.1. This clearly isn't the case...
