Is it possible to sync files between my computer without hooking it up to the data cable?
Since I'm now online with an Exchange server I really have no other need to plug in the data cable so I was wondering how one can sync files?
If I could see the phone on my home network from XP I could run create a sync profile in my backup program but I've been told the phone can see network shares but vice-versa. Strange.
Thanks
David
If you sync the device once with ActiveSync, you can then use Bluetooth to sync... from your device.
Other then that, search G00gle for a PocketPC sync application

Does anyone have any programs (or a way to setup WM6) to do a sync when wireless is connected.
I am in an environment where i am connected via wireless for half my day.
I would like to be able to sync with my exchange server over wireless when it is connected and not sync when its not connected.
I am wanting it to sync automatically every time it connects (or every X minutes while it is connected) via WLAN
I am running a Dopod 838 pro with WM6pro and syncing with exchange 2003.
Any help appreciated.
This might not be the exact answer for you... But check rk-OSR(Check my signature) for the utility to check emails using wifi.
Great App
Wow, thats a great app...
I will be using this unless anyone come up with a better solution.
Thanks for the prog tytnguy.
One suggestion for future versions,
Add a sync every X mins/hours option.
Also is there any way of having it sync without showing the window (like sync in the background)? Not that it is a problem, just would be a little tidier.
Once again, great work and thanks.
You could also use a tool like emoze (www.emoze.com). I can use it to sync my mail, contacts, appointments, etc....
Thanks for the suggestion emay but I already have Exchange server 2003 running, so all my emails and contacts are syncing correctly.
Its just getting it to do it automaticly over WLAN while its connected to save me data charges.
Helpful answer

You may need to check your root certificates on your device and check with your admin about who you get your certificates though for the exchange server. They will have one if they have the exchange web mail log in enabled.
If you can get the certificate file to your device (tip: if it's a .crt file rename it a .cer so WM6 will read it). Then you can run it right off your device's file manager and it should install.
After that just make sure you're telling your device to sync via wifi.
Oh, and you can also configure peak times, this might save battery so your phone isn't constantly checking home wifi to sync. Also configure what to sync though the settings in your active sync menu, you should also be able to tell it only to connect wirelessly via wifi and not though your data plan.
I hope this all helps.
Is there a way to setup my device to Sync with Exchange without a PC?
I have set up UC Compatibility and can get all of my mail accounts and programs setup with the exception of my Exchange connection.
The account shows up, but I cant Send/Receive without first connecting to my PC. I would really like to have this work without the PC.
Any thoughts???

Just setup your Exchange server connection on your phone... Programs --> ActiveSync --> Add Server Source
You should be able to sync with an exchange server through activesync as stated above. It will only work if the server has been setup to allow it.
Thanks for the direction
That did the trick, I guess I just thought the only way to build a connection to Exchange was while setting activesync on the PC.
Thanks
So, I have the HTC TyTn II and I sync only with my laptop and use my desktop just to transfer files and maybe install applications. The most annoying this is that ActiveSync wants to create a sync profile with my phone but I always have to click cancel and then it goes to "Guest" mode as noted on the top. I finally dug out the disassembler and nop'd out the call to the Synchronization Wizzard so it enters Guest mode immediately and quietly. Uploaded is A/S version 4.5.0 Build 5096 if anyone has a dedicated computer to upload files/download apps but not necessarily want to keep track of outlook/contacts/notes/etc
Hope someone can find this usefull.
good work!
but, IMHO, dont think this is the best solution
here's MS' official solution:

Nice read. I would suppose the registry modification would be easier for upgrades/updates as well. Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for this! I'll try it on my work laptop tomorrow.

I know that trick but it's not working for me.
When I make that key in my registry, I can connect my PDA to my laptop, and it will be in Guest-Mode.
BUT, when I open Active Sync on my device to sync with my works exchange server, I will not work.
However, when I simply cancel Active Sync partnership wizard on my laptop, (so connect in guest-mode) I can sync fine.
I hoped this would have been the solution for us.
We have a lot of users with there smartphone. Coz they use flexible workspaces The sync on several pc's. We don't want to make a new partnership every time. Canceling the partnership makes it possible to sync with Exchange. But with this ActiveSync version this doesnt work. Also the GuestOnly register change syncing with exchange is not possible.
Anyone a solution?

I think when using this program to force ActiveSync guest mode, it just adds:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"GuestOnly"=dword:00000001
to the registry.
That tweak is not working for me.
I can connect succesfully, but my device won't sync.
Clicking "sync" on my device, just doesn't do anything.
BTW: I sync with an Echange server through LAN network.

Hi everyone! When I connected my jade to my pc via usb, i got the usual screen asking me how i want to connect to the pc. Through activesync, internet sharing or disk drive. I chose internet sharing the last time to try this function out. However, the next time i connected via usb, the selection screen did not come out and it automatically went to internet sharing. Each time i connect via usb, this is what happens! Furthermore, i am now unable to sync! I tried going to activesync and pressing sync but to no avail! Could somebody help me please?!? Thank you in advance!!!
Try this...
1) Without connecting to PC.. on PC open ActiveSync. Select File - Delete Mobile Device - Confirm deletion.
2) On Jade, open active sync - options - delete all data
3) Now connect usb and configure connection again.
Hope that works.
Or on your Jade:
Click Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC...
Make sure that the checkbox at the bottom of the screen is checked.. That way it will always ask you what mode you want when connecting the device to USB...
HTH!

Thanks izzyzc but it was checked at the time that's why i was puzzled as to when i connected it would go straight to the internet sharing screen instead of giving me a choice.

Sometimes it's defaulted to "sync with PC". In Options, try uncheck that on PC contact folders, then check on server contact folders.
I have tried it, but no success.
Later on found (thanx to Google ) and installed Chapura Pocket Mirror Professional 1.0 trial and it went through and whole Outlook has been synchronized.
Now I works even w/o Chapura Pocket Mirror.
Is it possible to sync calendar/contacts over 3g to my computer?
Sometimes, I would add some appointments on my phone and would like that to sync automatically to my computer and vice versa. I don't want to do it over USB all the time.
Is it possible?
Thanks
You can use the Microsoft exchange server. Then it uses your 3g connection. I only haven’t found a way to sync my hotmail with the 3g connection..
