How Do I Disable the Camera on MDA? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I have had some suggestions on how to semi-permanently disable the camers so I can go into buildings where cameras are not allowed. I guess the best was to overwrite the camera.dll file with a blank (unless someone has a better idea??) Can anyone help me I find, back up and replace the old .dll file on my new Tmobile MDA Vario Wizard? I can not seem to access these type files and see the extensions from active sync to my laptop.
Thanks for any help,
Kube

How Do I Disable the Camera on MDA?
Isn't easier just to give the hardware button another function...?
(Allthough everybody knows you can rename files and still can use the formerly used function. I know, as a navy weapon engineer, I won't risk it and still won't allow it!!!)

In Windows, go to Control Panel, Folder Options, View tab, and check Show hidden files and folders. This will allow you to see all files on your Wizard and PC.

any place that actually cares that you not bring a camera in is not going to be satisfied with a software fix.
that said, how about a small piece of electrical tape over the lens?

Disable the Camera Reply
Thanks for the tips so far. Reply to tips: I have already assigned the camera button on the side to contacts but you can still turn on camera via programs. I would like to pop out the lens, but can't find out how to do this?? I have already put a lable over the lens a temp fix. The change in control panel to view hidden files through active sync worked to find the camerapicturedll and video files. How can I create a .dll with no info? Then I could replace the .dlls I have copied off and saved. Perhaps I could just delete them, but I have not tried and not sure it will let me. Any thoughts?

Switcherbar.exe for teh win!

I nicked the HTC 'switcherbar.exe' from my axim x50v and put it on my JasJar (i notice a collegue has it already on his k-jam as part of the default rom). It work, is only 43k and is perfectly stable and usable. No more pocket plus slowdowns! The only problem is that the icon is QVGA and sits in the middle of the menu bar! Still, much beter than anything else I've tried! Does anyone know how we might resource hack the .exe to use a VGA icon (or if this is even possible). I've attached the .exe for 'ahem' educational purposes.
when i try to copy it to JJ i get access denied using activesync, i have extracted the exe from the rar, the rar will copy to me jj no problem, the exe just wont do it, even renaming it to .exx.
i got it there, i put it on me server and wifi'd it using resco explorer to map to share,
is this an activesync block? dubious, it had same issue even if i renamed the exe to something like exx.
I like this app, small to the point and optimised. only crit is as you say it plonks the icon in a stupid place, is there another app maybe that can force it to the system tray?
Ohh, also the brightness and power options dont seem to work, if someone could reengineer this app to allow:
1, vga icons
2, appear in sys tray or atleast be more dynamic in its positioning
3, either remove or fix the backlight and power options.
Way over my head but im sure someone here would be able to fix it.
prehaps we could get the one off the k-jam? I presume the brightness & power shortcuts work on there...

Pocket ie try to save jpg instead of displaying them

Hi,
I'm sure there is somebody here that can help me. I've set up my SPV M5000 with some old programs, and they certainly messed up with the registry about file associations.
I can display jpg normaly, but if I try to see a jpg file (ie not embeded into a web page), I get the file save dialog. At first, it was registered to pimg.exe, and I tryed associating to to pocket painter for example, with no luck.
Anybody know the key to place to go back to a normal jpg displaying state for pocket ie?
TIA
I've the same problem.
Mine is the same but I've installed nothing that would affect the file associations...
I think perhaps it's just another of the joyful 'features' of Microsoft's wonderful Pocket Internet Explorer
Does it do the same with a gif or bmp?
V
That's exactly what I had on mine. I didn't get to the bottom of it, but instead did what vijay suggested and created a local html file with the jpg embedded. All I needed was to view a single jpg within PIE (from my webcam). This works fine, but is a workaround only for 1 jpg. I wouldn't want to do this for everything!
Surely one of the File Explorer tools can change the file associations?
I think the problem lies within PIE, when you click a pic it assumes its an attachment and so will save it,
I cant try atm but its worth trying to goto a pic directly ie,
http://www.website.com/picture.jpg
it may well display the image then, not sure, cant test atm. and its not going to be very useful when doing some normal browsing.
Same with Gif. I've teste on a K-Jam, and it display the picture properly in ie. I'm sure there is something messed up in registry
Found the solution
There is a CLSID value missing in HKCR/MIME/Database/Content Type/image/jpg and other gif and jpeg
Add a string value CLSID
{698E3FCA-70C3-11D0-81E8-00A0C90AD21A} and you are set.
@thaihugo
Won't work for me.
I've tried with PHM RegEdit but same behaviour as before.
Can you give us a screen shot of the correct registry key, please?
BTW:
There is another string "Image Filter CLSID" and
there is a "Bits"-key in /gif and /bmp and /jpeg but not in /jpg.
Are these needed too?
OK now it works.
What i've done is:
Created and copied the CLSID mentioned above into
image/bmp
image/gif
image/jpeg
image/jpg
image/pjeg
Copy the "Bits" from /jpeg to /jpg
Created a "Image Filter CLSID" in /jpg with the same content as found in /jpeg
Save, wait and Softreset. -> Works as intended!
I don´t know if i've done to much, but everything works now.
I'm happy. Thank you!
I though it was my programs that would delete this keys, but it seems you need to insert them also. Maybe it is a full system bug? A registry export might be of some help if some other report the same problem.
This still isn't quite working for me...
Can someone explain again EXACTLY what I have to do?
Hmm - interesting stuff - will have to try this.
I assume this isn't going to affect other JPG viewers, eg Opera???
I have the same problem on both Hima and Universal WM2006
Himalaya > TOFCLOCK HIMA WM6 AKU.0.7.0
Universal > Jwrightmcps 9000_WWE_21200_21207_11500
The registry solution proposed doesn't work for me, probably due a different CSLID. Any suggestion?
THX
Many thanks to CouchPotato
@CouchPotato
Thank youuuu, your step by step solution worked fine for me on BA (WM6)

Ruben

My Pictures - Default To Storage Card?

When I open the My Pictures app in WM5, is there a way to make it default to the folder on my storage card, instead of the My Pictures on internal memory?
I am having the same problem.
Pictures save onto my storage card, but the viewer does not default to display pictures from there. Also frustrating is that I click the pull-down location chooser and choose Storage Card but it does not take effect unless I pick another location first -- it just ignores my click.
I have found that My Pictures & Video stores registry entries of folder locations for both internal & storage card, and have tried making them both on the storage card, to no avail.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem?
It is indeed a problem for those of us who store our photos & video on the storage card, as I cannot use the nice feature "Play screensaver when connected to my PC and idle for 2 minutes"
No one knows a way around this problem? Surely there must be a reg edit or something that could do the trick?
Still looking for a solution to this!
Can anyone figure this out? It is quite annoying having to use the stylus every time to re-naviage to my picture folder...

Don't think there is a fix for this - tried various registry tweaks with no joy - I think the default directory is hard coded into the picture viewer software.
I use Xnview pocket as my default viewer and its much better and faster than the default one and you can change directory to where ever you want. & its free http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=12698
I've read lots of good things about XnView...but one question: does it have WM5 soft key controls? I though it didn't but haven't used it myself.
I've tried lots of pic apps (Resco, SplashPhoto, PictPocket LE) but either they are not WM5 compatible (Resco) have annyoing menus (Splash) or don't have a resize option for emailing (PicktPocket).
I'm trying to avoid using the stylus.
The default pic applicaton in WM5 is slow as hell but I like the simple editing controls, basic soft key functions (could be better, like selecting directory) and how it resizes any pics for emailing.
If I could find something that did all of that I'd be happy!

Xnview does not have soft key control but i find its speed more than makes up for this. It does not have direct email control but can resize the image to what ever size you need and many other image manipulations. It is also able to capture screens - and its zooming is better than the default one, plus you can have a slideshow with mp3 music.

Attention anybody with Total Commander installed: a request

Could someone who has Total Commander installed on their Hermes quickly load it up, find a JPEG image on their device (if you don't have one, just snap a random photo with the camera) and then in Total Commander, tap and hold, go to Properties, go to the Associate tab, and hit Associate... please?
Once in there, could you copy out what values you have set for the image file association, so I can copy them onto my device to get image viewing working again! I installed DAVA 2003 and it's somehow royally screwed up my image assocation settings (all images are loaded in Internet Explorer, except they load completely wrong, the system tries to load them via iexplore.exe with the parameter file\:%1 which of course won't work)... Basically, either screenshot + upload your settings (which work properly of course ), or write them into a reply, just so I can get the right settings again! I reallllllly don't want to have to hard reset just to fix this one problem, but the default file association information is nowhere to be found on the Internet (at least as far as I looked, could be in subscription-only area of MSDN but I don't know and don't have a login anyway, but that site is a minefield anyhow)...
Much kudos and quite possibly a few eBeers will be sent to any person who can help me this quandary!
I'll upload a photo of the settings tonight! Just tried with a SE K610i and the camera is really bad close up!
Phil
If you're after a screencapture app, I got Capture Screen free from fannsoftware.com which does the job alright, dumps the BMPs in the root of your main memory or storage card if you have one installed. 225kb each.
Many thanks for hooking me up with the settings though, it's been driving me NUTS since I managed to bork it! Knew I could rely on this place
Good software that! Here you go.
Phil
edit: would not uload from the tytn
Er.. thanks?
No picture?
for command i have
pimg.exe
for parameter i have
"%1"
Is that what you need?
Bingo!
Works perfectly, thanks to both you guys for taking the time to get the settings for me Can't understand why that application changed the file association settings, cause IEM can't display images in the way it was being made to do... Very annoying.
Muchly appreciated, kudos to you both

No Navi Panel

Hello all,
I have just received a HTC HD2(Leo) from Vodafone and have paired it with my Parrot handsfree, and have set the bluetooth settings to start the Navi Panel. Except it does not start.
I then looked in the Windows folder and can not find Navi.exe , does anyone know if it is not included in a Voda variant?
If not is is possible for someone to send me a copy?
Wan
mine doesn't have the navi panel either
either the original T mobile rom or the new 1.48 rom!
Chaps,
Look here.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581144
Also you may have to use the option of showing hidden files in File Explorer to find it.

Hi
Wacky.Banana
You are correct you have to click MEnu in explorer thencheck Show Hidden Files.
Double clicking the Navi file causes the application to run.
The reason why it doesn't run when connected to my car kit is the HD2 needs to be plugged into a charger

Morning,
To unhide files in explorer go to Tools>Folder Options>View>Show Hidden Files... to solve that problem.
In terms of finding the Navi Panel file you need to explore the Windows folder on the device (fine doing this via Activesync). Once the files have loaded up (can take some time as there are stacks of files in this directory) scroll through until you eventually come to 3 files all called Navi...
Click on the properties of each file; what you are looking for is the file whose properties are application. That's the one you want.
If you want to use it to access the Navi panel, copy that file into your StartMenu folder, which is a sub folder of the Windows folder.
From here exit these folders, go into the StarMenu folder by tapping on Start at the top of your device screen and you should find the Navi file at the bottom of the items listed on that screen (you can tap and hold to get the sub menu that allows you to move the file to the top of the list).
For greater ease of use you can now copy the file as a quicklink onto your front screen. Job done!
Incidentally these instructions are based on using Activesync to access the device and copy and paste that way, not by trying to do all this on the device itself, which you might find tedious and frustrating.
If you get stuck pm me and I will see what I can do to get you there.
Hope this helps.

hi ive found all that on my htc hd2 and done all that but once ive accessed the application it wont let me choose a voice on the app when runnin
Navipanel is designed to work in conjunction with the HTC hardware car kit, which connects with a terminal under the battery cover. It's quite likely that a lot of the functions (such as speakerphone) only work with the hardware connection.
Ok, dumb question now, sorry :-(
In my haste I copied Navipanel.exe into Startup insted of Start menu. Now I can't delete or move it and it's causing some problems. Can anyone help a dumbo and tell me how to get rid of it pls?
