Long story, but I want to hard reset my wizard.
I've looked in the search, and its really useless (mainly because every time someone says 'I've done a hard reset' with out saying how they did it, i get a hit)
So how do i do it?
Google is your friend.
# Press and hold both the Comm Mannager Button and the Voice Command Button
# While keeping those two buttons pressed, press the Reset Button with your stylus, release the reset button, but keep the other two buttons pressed.
# After about a second you will be prompted for confirmation. Press the Talk Button to confirm
The Talk button, send button which your phone will ask, is the your call pickup button. Took me a while to figure that one out.
.......But I'm still looking for a way to completely reset my phone, meaning old reg settings etc.
To completely wipe you phone to factory click Start>Settings, then click the System tab, then click "Clear Storage" It will prompt you follow the instructions, I would recommend removing the SD Card if you have one in the phone.. Just incase it wants to wipe that also.
I had to do this last week :/

Tip for all newbies using search - use AND then the results will come up. I entered hard AND reset and the answer was on the second page of results.
Eviltwin - why not update rom whilst your at it - you have an old rom.
And its 'gentle' not gental lol
mightymegit, this also doesn't clear your phone completely. Or it does and my phone is son clever, it always knows where I live, after I install again f.i TT5.

I recently installed some cabs without backing up my tilt. Now, i just wanna go back to the original, like when i got it. I went into settings>system>clear storage. i put in the 1234 like it says and hit yes, and nothing happens. I dont know what to do. Please help!
You should Hard Reset it. This way you will eliminate any data or programs you installed after you started using it. By Erasing storage you will not clean the registry etc.
This is how you Hard Reset your Tilt:
Hard Reset **NB** This cannot be performed while the device is connected/charging!**
Press and hold both soft keys
Using a stylus, press and hold the soft reset button at the bottom of the phone
Keep all three buttons pressed until the keypad lights turn off and then flash
Release the soft reset button while still pressing the soft keys
Let go of the two soft keys once the message "This operation will delete all your personal data, to manufacturer default" appears on screen
Finally, press the green call button to perform the hard reset, or press other key to cancel
BEWARE: You will lose all te data on the device - including your PIM data (messages, contacts...), only SD card will be left intact - so backup everything you might need after you reset it to factory state.
thank you guys very much. I am new to this. This is my first pda style phone and i love it. Im just a newb with it. LOL.
Hi,
I have tried and tried to do a hard reset but the phone only soft resets.
i press and hold both soft keys under the screen (the "-" key above the Q and the "-" key above the P) and then i poke the reset button on the side of the phone. It will only soft reset. I've tried this when the phone was turned on and turned off.
I've even tried pressing the left soft key first and then the right, I've reversed the order . . .
Nothing I try will let me do a hard reset!
Any ideas?
try
No doubt you're doing it, but you have to push both soft keys at the same time as when you push in the stylus. Push both keys extremely hard with your right hand, and enter the stylus with the other.
Otherwise you could just try flashing one of DCD's rom's. That ought to get it to the hard reset status you want anyway right?
hey scotcha12345,
I tried pushing both keys at the same time too (then poked the reset). But it still won't hard reset.
I would like to do a hard reset because I'm sending this phone back to vzw.
I just want to clear the memory of any personal stuff.
I did the Settings>System>Clear Storage thing but I want to be REALLY sure that everything is gone and a hard reset seems like my best bet. (But, of course, the phone won't hard reset.)
Since it does not look like I'll be able to hard reset can anyone confirm that the Clear Storage thing does what a hard reset would do at least in terms of clearing anything personal and getting rid of programs that vzw might not like? (It has the stock ROM so I'm good there.) From what I can tell, I should be ok with Clear Storage but I would still rather do the hard reset.
and just to be clear, I've tried pushing all three (both soft keys and reset button with stylus) at the same time, too.
hard reset
2 other suggestions:
1st:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Titan
Scroll down to: Downgrading -- Official Carrier ROMs & associated radios with flashing guides
You could reflash with that. It's the original ROM and radio, so there should be no problem, thus avoiding any warranty deal breaking. (fairly quick and easy)

I'm pretty sure in the past I've seen a program that has a button that you can just push that does a Hard Reset...looking for it.
I've never done the Clear Storage, so I'm no help there.
Have you tried using the soft keys on the face of the phone? The ones above the windows and ok buttons. I've only used these and never the ones on the keyboard.
Ivan
try doing it by pressing the two softkeys obave the send and end buttons and then prees the reset button with the stylus BUT KEEP PRESSING THE TWO SOFT KEYS, DON'T RELEASE THEM UNTIL YOU SEE THE HARD RESET SCREEN...
btonetbone & nelsongruebr
Thanks, that did the trick.
(Sorry for the long response time. I was in a coma for the last 6 months.)
to answer your earlier question about the "clear storage" method... yeah, that does the same hard reset as when you press the two softkeys (on face of phone) + reset button.
The "clear storage" is the only method for the xv6900 users to hardreset since they don't have softkeys.
Ive hardreset both ways on my xv6800 with the same result.
Am i missing something...I coming form windows mobile..I don't see a button under the cover, or way to soft rest...Can someone please share some light?
With Android it's pretty much not needed. It's a pretty rare occasion (I can't say it's every happened with my G1 or MyTouch, so...) when simply holding the power button won't give you the power-down menu, no matter what kind of crazy things an application has done. If things get really bad (a deep down error in the OS... also a very rare occasion) it will more likely reboot itself than simply freeze up.
But if that rare occasion does happen, you'll just pop off the back cover and pull out the battery for a few seconds. No harm, no foul.
Exactly, Worse comes to worst and you pull the battery.
there is a hard reset, go into bootloader (hold trackball and power on phone)and press Reset (Factory Defaults).
Hard reset != soft reset.
Hard reset does not equal soft reset.
Hard reset in Android land is roughly similar to a wipe in WinMo ROM hacking land, except you WILL NOT want to do it after flashing a full ROM, only before.
I know that, thats why I said hard reset not soft reset.
Soft reset: hold down power button+volume down+track ball.
Wonder if there is some application that can do it (like the ones we had on windows mobile)
I imagine it's a superuser function, so, for an app, you would need root access on your phone, and you would need to allow it.
Trackball + Volume Down + Power. Your phone will soft reset after about 2 sec.

Does it remove my contact list or it will just reboot the cell phone like we reboot the computer or a windows cell phone using the reset button?
Thanks
It's a soft reset, apps with unsaved data you have running may not save, but other than that it's basically like telling your phone to shut down, then telling it to power back on.
Hi all,
I hope you can help me on this one...
I have tested the unlock fonction on my phone and I am not able to unlock it...
I got a ""UNLOCK received, Unable to Unlock. Device locked with Non-Terminator password" when I am seding the unlock command from my partner phone.
I posted this problem on the Sprite forum but nothing yet.
Please can you help, as my phone is locked, I am really stuck... and I don't have time to flash a new ROM now...
UPDATE
After 24h I had not support from Sprite regarding my problem.
If I had to review Sprite Terminator I say it is really crap and install it at your own risk... I am an advanced user and I have done anything wrong player this app.
I will never spend 15 bucks on a under developpment software with no support...
My final word is: Terminator is really a good name for a software that will terminate your phone forever
I am on my way to hard reset my phone, voilĂ ... next time I will reconsider installing a Sprite software...
Moderators you may now close this thread please
Well I guess it is a little late to tell you this...
Go on - get ready to slap your forehead and then say the magic IT word... "Doh! (three times)
To perform a hard reset
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then press the END/POWER button shortly and release it. You will then see this message on the screen.
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.
2. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
3
. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset
Yup - it works a treat... I used it on my Sprite wiped and locked HD2
Sorry - I do feel smug - I got terrified when I could not un-nuke mine... then I RTFM'd the prob.
(all in good humour)
The same thing just happened to me.
Try this. Enter your sprite password to unlock the phone.
Then go to Start/Settings/Security/Phone Lock
Untick Prompt if phone unused for. This should clear the screen lock.
Sprite activates this and sets the time window to 0 minutes.
It's a good idea to set your phone password to the same one as Sprite Terminator password at this point, just incase you need to lock/unlock it again.
Sprite. You may want to update your instructions to cover this issue rather than annoying
fee paying customers.
Is it possiable I can have softrest (cap) shortcut button ( instead of Powering off / press softrest button under cover / remove battery) on my t-mobile htc hd2 without installing non-official rom?
yes you have to instal one of this cab file.
search for xdaShutdown or Touch X reset

You can also install HButton (along with the xdaShutdown cab mentioned here), so you can map this app to a long press of the power button.
Good luck!

Yep, this is what i was looking for...thanks lot
I dont understand this need for "reboot software" whats so hard about holding the power off button for a few seconds then hitting the power off button that appears on screen, then pressing the power button again once the phone is off?
If your phone is so fubar that you have to resort to pulling off the battery cover and poking the reset button, then a piece of software to reboot it likely wont be of any use.
I do remember trying out such software long ago on my MDA, and it always seemed the software just instantly rebooted, rather than doing a graceful shutdown. What are the chances of file system corruption by repeatedly doing instant reboots rather than graceful shutdowns? especially dealing with the larger file storage spaces we have now

d0ug,
I was thinking the same exact thing. Maybe out of some freak of nature, I got the only perfect T-mobile USA HD2 but, I have never had to do any type of forced hard reset or forced soft reset. I rarely shut it off, mostly running 24/7
Thank you,
Monnie

Ive not had any issues with mine either, other than the well documented SMS bug that starts slowing the phone down around 200sms messages or so.
Hopefully there will be a fix from HTC for that, in the meantime i just use PIMBackup weekly to backup all my SMS messages, and have created a "blank" message backup file that i use to restore over the message DB wiping out all the SMS.
For normal usage the phone has been great, ive only had to reset a few times after screwing around with some more advanced settings, nothing that would have been a problem for sometime just normally using the phone.
I've only poked my reset button under the battery cover once, mainly to see that it worked lol, basically the day i got the phone, going over all the functions of the phone to make sure everything worked.
