need help please! - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I recently installed some cabs without backing up my tilt. Now, i just wanna go back to the original, like when i got it. I went into settings>system>clear storage. i put in the 1234 like it says and hit yes, and nothing happens. I dont know what to do. Please help!

You should Hard Reset it. This way you will eliminate any data or programs you installed after you started using it. By Erasing storage you will not clean the registry etc.

This is how you Hard Reset your Tilt:
Hard Reset **NB** This cannot be performed while the device is connected/charging!**
Press and hold both soft keys
Using a stylus, press and hold the soft reset button at the bottom of the phone
Keep all three buttons pressed until the keypad lights turn off and then flash
Release the soft reset button while still pressing the soft keys
Let go of the two soft keys once the message "This operation will delete all your personal data, to manufacturer default" appears on screen
Finally, press the green call button to perform the hard reset, or press other key to cancel
BEWARE: You will lose all te data on the device - including your PIM data (messages, contacts...), only SD card will be left intact - so backup everything you might need after you reset it to factory state.

thank you guys very much. I am new to this. This is my first pda style phone and i love it. Im just a newb with it. LOL.

Do I need to hard reset my xv6800 ?

I just installed the BatteryStatus today plug in and it was working fine until i turned on the option to show the CPU speed. Then it just hung up. Now when I soft-reset it hangs when loading the today screen. Some of the plugins load but it hangs before BatteryStatus loads, probably while loading it. Any way I can get to my system to change that setting? I would prefer to not do a hard reset. But if I do, how do I do a hard reset?
Sounds like a hard reset to me....Hold down the two keys with the dot's on them next to your phone buttons and hit the reset button while pressing the reset switch and hold them down for a second or two longer. If you have a Memory card in on the 6800 I hear you may want to take it out if you don't want it cleared as well...good luck.
hmmm I went to do a hard reset... saw on another site that you press all the buttons and press reset. I pressed all the side buttons OK, Voice, On, Comm, Camera and hit the reset.
It went to a screen with red, green and blue (i think) bars and said USB at the bottom. Then I unplugged it from the USB and it switched to say serial. And it just stayed there. I didn't know what to do so I just soft reset it at that point. It then booted up and was working fine. Looks like the changes I made since the last soft reset had been cleared (I think) and it was now working fine and all my stuff was still on my phone (it doesnt look like it did a hard reset).
Was that not a hard reset that I did? or was it something else?
Sounds like you entered bootloader mode. I'm surrprised that a SOFT RESET took you back.......
You just did a Soft Reset from Bootloader mode, which to my knowledge is exactly the same as a regular Soft Reset.
A Hard Reset wil completely reset your device to original ROM status and wipe out all of your info/contacts/mail... ect.
If the Soft Reset fixed the problem then good deal.
I installed same app, had same problem and did hard reset. My problem was getting phone service working again. About 15 min. with VZW connection tech, entered a 26 digit number authentication key through EPST.exe system program to get my phone service back.
I also had the same problem as well. With a battery status deal like what your describing. All i did was soft reset a **** load of times and plug in my pw real fast and it came back. I have a scrolling task now that display all of it with 0 problems. I have it if you want it. Pm me your email.
Weird, I had tried a soft reset a few times and it kept coming back with the same thing, hanging halfway through loading the today screen. Maybe I just got lucky that time.
try this, i like alot with 0 problems

Soft/Hard?

What is the diffrence between soft/hard reset, any time some one tells me to soft/hard reset my phone I just hold down the button on the side of my mogul intill it says power off, I heard that hard reset you loses your data so its wise to have a backup file, so soft is using the power button? and hard is using the storage cleanup? Thank's for the people answering my question's, and I don't mean to put this thread in the wrong spot, the thread said titan and I have a mogul so I put it here,
Thank's.
a soft reset is just that, a reset. A hard reset is similiar to reformatting your PC harddrive...wipes everything and starts all over. I could be wrong, but I don't think a soft reset is the same as simply turning off the power button. On the bottom of your mogul (right below the SD slot) is a reset button. Use your stylus and press the button for a soft reset.
oh wow didint even see that I just tryed it lol, so the button on the bottom is a soft re-set? and the disk clean up feature that wipes out my phone is a hard?
yes. start>settings>system>clear storage = hard reset.

How did you manage to do a soft reset when all you have is the use of your nipples? Someone else did for you? Just curious.
Yea and I didin't just do it, know how long it too for my mom to get into the room and press the stupid button? lol..
He has another body part that is just the right size to do a soft reset...

phone won't hard reset!

Hi,
I have tried and tried to do a hard reset but the phone only soft resets.
i press and hold both soft keys under the screen (the "-" key above the Q and the "-" key above the P) and then i poke the reset button on the side of the phone. It will only soft reset. I've tried this when the phone was turned on and turned off.
I've even tried pressing the left soft key first and then the right, I've reversed the order . . .
Nothing I try will let me do a hard reset!
Any ideas?
try
No doubt you're doing it, but you have to push both soft keys at the same time as when you push in the stylus. Push both keys extremely hard with your right hand, and enter the stylus with the other.
Otherwise you could just try flashing one of DCD's rom's. That ought to get it to the hard reset status you want anyway right?
hey scotcha12345,
I tried pushing both keys at the same time too (then poked the reset). But it still won't hard reset.
I would like to do a hard reset because I'm sending this phone back to vzw.
I just want to clear the memory of any personal stuff.
I did the Settings>System>Clear Storage thing but I want to be REALLY sure that everything is gone and a hard reset seems like my best bet. (But, of course, the phone won't hard reset.)
Since it does not look like I'll be able to hard reset can anyone confirm that the Clear Storage thing does what a hard reset would do at least in terms of clearing anything personal and getting rid of programs that vzw might not like? (It has the stock ROM so I'm good there.) From what I can tell, I should be ok with Clear Storage but I would still rather do the hard reset.
and just to be clear, I've tried pushing all three (both soft keys and reset button with stylus) at the same time, too.
hard reset
2 other suggestions:
1st:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Titan
Scroll down to: Downgrading -- Official Carrier ROMs & associated radios with flashing guides
You could reflash with that. It's the original ROM and radio, so there should be no problem, thus avoiding any warranty deal breaking. (fairly quick and easy)
2nd
I'm pretty sure in the past I've seen a program that has a button that you can just push that does a Hard Reset...looking for it.
I've never done the Clear Storage, so I'm no help there.
Have you tried using the soft keys on the face of the phone? The ones above the windows and ok buttons. I've only used these and never the ones on the keyboard.
Ivan
try doing it by pressing the two softkeys obave the send and end buttons and then prees the reset button with the stylus BUT KEEP PRESSING THE TWO SOFT KEYS, DON'T RELEASE THEM UNTIL YOU SEE THE HARD RESET SCREEN...
btonetbone & nelsongruebr
Thanks, that did the trick.
(Sorry for the long response time. I was in a coma for the last 6 months.)
to answer your earlier question about the "clear storage" method... yeah, that does the same hard reset as when you press the two softkeys (on face of phone) + reset button.
The "clear storage" is the only method for the xv6900 users to hardreset since they don't have softkeys.
Ive hardreset both ways on my xv6800 with the same result.

How to Soft Reset

Am i missing something...I coming form windows mobile..I don't see a button under the cover, or way to soft rest...Can someone please share some light?
With Android it's pretty much not needed. It's a pretty rare occasion (I can't say it's every happened with my G1 or MyTouch, so...) when simply holding the power button won't give you the power-down menu, no matter what kind of crazy things an application has done. If things get really bad (a deep down error in the OS... also a very rare occasion) it will more likely reboot itself than simply freeze up.
But if that rare occasion does happen, you'll just pop off the back cover and pull out the battery for a few seconds. No harm, no foul.
Exactly, Worse comes to worst and you pull the battery.
there is a hard reset, go into bootloader (hold trackball and power on phone)and press Reset (Factory Defaults).
Hard reset != soft reset.
Hard reset does not equal soft reset.
Hard reset in Android land is roughly similar to a wipe in WinMo ROM hacking land, except you WILL NOT want to do it after flashing a full ROM, only before.
I know that, thats why I said hard reset not soft reset.
Soft reset: hold down power button+volume down+track ball.
Wonder if there is some application that can do it (like the ones we had on windows mobile)
I imagine it's a superuser function, so, for an app, you would need root access on your phone, and you would need to allow it.
Trackball + Volume Down + Power. Your phone will soft reset after about 2 sec.

Does it remove my contact list or it will just reboot the cell phone like we reboot the computer or a windows cell phone using the reset button?
Thanks
It's a soft reset, apps with unsaved data you have running may not save, but other than that it's basically like telling your phone to shut down, then telling it to power back on.

reset B7620 startup password??

i have this phone
how to remove password?or how to make hard reset?
I also had the same problem. few days ago I entered my password and some how the phone did not let me log in so I researched on how to do a hard reset.
Direction:
Hard reset on Samsung Giorgio Armani b7620
Turn off device. Place it in a flat surface
Hold W/L and Lock button together (do not release) then press (do not release) call button then power button....
Formatting Menu will appear, press call button to confirm hard reset
fyi: W/L = work and leisure button which locates on top next to the speaker phone.
before u do this please notice that after I did a hard reset on my phone, the phone itself did not get any network signal. so the Hard reset probably erased the Radio software on the phone. I don't know why it did that. I am guessing probably because I had the sim card in the phone when I did the Hard Reset.
What you can try is before you do the Hard reset. *Take the sim card out of the phone first* then follow the direction I gave up there.
Good luck.
