Goodbye to this forum, lost my Prophet - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Just a few words...to say a big thanks to this forum - I´ve learnt a lot from here and tried to give back to the community as much as I could. My Prophet was stolen last week, and I replaced it...with a Nokia E61 PDA. Finally Nokia has a real Symbian OS9 V3 business PDA, and I don´t have to bother with Win Mobile 5 anymore. Only feature missing is A2DP, but Nokia will deliver with next firmware update. Take a closer look at this model, if you want to do serious business comms. Prophet was great, but I need UMTS data now. Good luck to all of you, and keep up the good community work. BTW HTC will soon also sell under it´s own brand...Dopod ))

Well I'm sorry you had to downgrade 8)

Sorry to hear you had to downgrade due to a stolen Prophet!...

Think Twice Before buying XDA Exec.

I have used many blackberry devices and PDA's for my work before and could not wait to get my hands on an EXEC.
It looks supurb it rearly does, It will make your m8's jaws drop.
Thebox it comes in makes you think WOW! I have some nice kit here.
Beyond the box though, You have to start it up, Here you will start to wonder!
It will take about 2 Mins to boot from Cold (1 1/2 mins longer than a 486 PC booting into Windows 98 )
Does not matter what mode you go in, Basic, Advanced or Corporate.
You click on Start And after a small delay you may get the menu.
As you start to navigate through Windows Mobile 5 you will instantly notice the sluggish response and this is all before you even install anything on it.
I read all the pre release reviews about this device and am surprised that no one commented on this speed issue!
You learn to notice that the PDA side is too slow to use compaired to other PDA devices.
TOM TOM users will expeirence massive difficulty and incompatibility issues.
The Exec and other Universal devices was the first time that sees the Windows Mobile 5 Software and as such is so buggy you may as well be using a beta version. Software is very scare's compaired to other windows mobile and SE builds.
Reports are starting to come through about the hinge of the screen, though I did not experience this. Be Warned.
The phone functions I had no problems with, Conversations was clear and had not experienced any missed calls like users of the Jas Jar have reported.
The device is much heaver than you may expect and much more bulky due to it's clamshell form factor (fold up keyboard and swivel screen)
With all the above issue's I was personally Dissapointed and ended up selling on this forum after 2 Day's of having the device.
There may be Flash updates in the very near future though It Pi**es me off that companies release this crap before ironing out this massive issues. I mean did they rearlly thing we would not notice?
Stick to a Blackberry or PDA Stand alone.
ME.. I have just ordered myself a Nokia 8800 and will stick to my HP PDA.
I can see your point about some of the bugs with the device, but every xda has had these and they have been pretty much sorted out with time. Personally I love my exec, it is everything I hoped it would be, and yes, there are annoying glitches (I don't like the O2 ROM) but overall it is working very well. Sorry you had such a bad experience with yours!
Fin
hmm
Love my mda pro,
works a charm in my eyes, and all new mobiles have these problems, after an update or a change of rom it will all be fine.
The problem here is that you buy a state of the art phone/pda, of course it has bugs.. buy a new model car and it will have child faults too. these are minor and will be solved in updates.
I have been using my mda pro for a week now and must say it is the coolest phone/pda ever. the screen is to die for!! I don't even look at my mda 3 screen anymore lol. makes me cry haha
There is no other phone/mda right now which has such great working wifi and a vga screen.
This is a phone/pda for someone who loves to have a mini tablet pc with phone function.
How can you compare this with a blackberry? LMAO got stocks in that company? LOL Do blackberry's have vga screens? hahaha the Universal is a PC and that is what we love!!
Anyway.. the universal is here to stay and is the market leader.. and it certainly helps in keeping development going forward!!
I have a JJ and the call quality has been good (and video calling works okay). There are problems with WM5 (but M$ has never been in the business to produce quality software!). But for me, as a Nokia 9500 user, is the lack of proper phone functions in WM5 that is surprising.
The performance will improve if you turn off the error reporting. But I am still surprised how slow the device is compared to my Treo 650, which only has a 312Mhz processor and has persistent memory.
Like all these devices reviews etc are available so perhaps people should do a bit more research before they buy one?
ehhh
that is like comparing Apples to Oranges.
Just don't buy a MS device if you don't like them! I also have a spv c550, great phone but loads of probs with that new 230pix screen and tomtom5 haha, but still i love it.
nokia, SE p910i and treo are symbian phones and have their own limitations and mishaps. had them all and never liked their restricted GUI.
Nagging we all can, i just love it that we have windows based phones and pda's and will certainly keep buying them. And so will a large group of followers hehe
http://my-symbian.com/forum/ should be the place for you ahhaha
I agree, i had all the nokia 9000 series phones and loved them but I use the excel and the symbian software slaughters excel and the Nokia 9500 could not even handle the transfer of excel files to computer when I bought one and the place I bought it from "Techoni Mobile Phones Australia" said wait for an update from Nokia when I rang and said I wanted my money back as I said to them that they sold me a product that doesn't do as advertised. I will never buy off that company again. The JJ / Exec is an incredible phone/PDA.
Er..I was trying to say the JJ is okay for me...even though it is not complete. I use all types of devices I have no preference I just want something that helps me do things better. I agree about the Nokia word/excel issues, Nokia were silly about this.
Edit: @dvl, the Treo is not Symbian and next there will be a WM5 version of the Treo released. M$ are really pleased with the Treo WM5 as they recognise the hardware is designed well and M$ have had help from Palm to improve the UI.
are all tomtom related issues not a matter of tomtom's software not being 2005 friendly or buggy ?
hehe
You are right, treo is palm, hehe but kinda similar to symbian..
but you made a true statement.. I LOVE THE TREO600/650's feel, touch and looks. And now that they come with WM5 in it i will certainly by that phone.. No doubt about it. And it will be a market leader when it comes out.
ALthough it will not be a Universal.. hehe
hi
i tend to disagree ...ive had my universal for almost 2 months now.. and have no problems with it... connecivity wise or hinge wise
the only thing disappointing me till now (its not related to universal) is that while some devs have updated their softwares most have not yet done so or havent released a fully stable version for wm5
I'm using JJ for the last one month and I have no problem with it at all.
At the beginning I used to experience some troubles with the low speed of the device but after a while, I made some changes to the settings of the JJ and everyting is working fine now.
I think that JJ is having everyting I need and much more.
Still there are some issues to be resolved like the Video full screen play back and other issues, but in General it is the best PDA I have ever used.
Regards,

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT FOR HTC MAGICIAN

i've been using the O2 mini for a couple of month & have done all the upgrades that are mentioned in this forum.
I still belive that HTC can make a lot of improvements for all its products coz we all pay a reasonable high price for them.
I am quite happy with my mini but i still think it is a jack of all trades master of none.
I therefore decided to make a list of some of the shortcommings..
i hope most members will add to this & hopefuly HTC may deliver us a better product.
here goes
QVGA screen for 256k res
Bigger Rom
More RAM
Faster Processor
WI-FI
USB2.0
Better quality of speakers..Sterophonic sound is bad/jars[look at sonyericsson/nokia]
Better lens for camera[sonyeric again!]
Better software for camera
FM radio
this is just for starters...
regards all,
frz
O2 Atom???
Regards,
Arto.
Well it seems to me that the newer devices are more to your specs.
Don't get me wrong in this, I agree with your list. & I'm very curious what next year will bring us.
regards, M
Are you guys sure you are in the right forum ?
This is Universal Forum and not Magician
Cheers
hrb
Yup I'm sorry, noticed it that too, maybe a mod can 'move' it to the magician forum.
I have a Boss GT-76h hoover. Do You know which are the best settings for the dust bag? It stucked hoove-loader mode. Anybody has the latest DustiveSync? I'm using 0.004beta. I'd like to buy PollenCommander 2.4, I hope it will solve the problem.
Hi T,
That pollen extension is very good, I'm using it for three weeks & no allergic reactions anymore. Where did you get DustiveSync 0.004beta? I used 0.001beta and that was so sluggish and hard to get rid of too :-( Now I use a thirdparty sync called MustSync but that only works when connected to an AC socket, very strange. I did manage to get 1200rpm though with it & that's only 50% performance decrease, so I'm very pleased afterall.
If you have any great tips for the Boss GT-76h then post them pls, maybe we can even get a forum for it!
Ciao, M
Hi Oltp!
I bought DustiveSync on the PollenGear.com. You can find it if you put it to the Search. Buy it now this is on a special sale, just 1359$!!!
Yes I heard that problem about MustSync, but the only method to work with it is to upgrade your hoover's SocketRadio ROM, but a lot of people said it is a lot more expensive with the electricity costs.
PollenGear.com ? Oooh man that's so obvious, I feel so stupid should have known that. I usually go to VacuShop.nl great service next day delivery, in Dutch though. Those guys from DustiveSync are good, they even sell there beta's?? I tried my beta for free 9 months ago. Am I saying 9 months funny my wife birth to an elephant last week.
Can it be?
BTW ever been to dust-developers.com? Great forum full of tips & well can't say that without being a sexist, check it out yourself I'd say.
I've got to pass on the special offer, last month I did a wireless extension for $750 & now I can't afford much more.
See you, M
Yes, They sell beta's. After Macrodust Loosedows products they diceded to make unfair businesses like them. For this news leader of Macrodust ( Kill Bates ) had a terrible reaction: they suspended Loosedows XP's selling and prohibited any using it. After that PollenGear.com site was crashed, and Macrodust had hoovered all the remaining software-dust from the internet.
Now Macrodust's saying: We are laughing at the end!
Yeah I guess they've won, they really crushed a lot of others. Don't like all off the MacroDust products, but I secretly admire Kill Bates. What ever he does, he does very good, really kills every other in the market. I'm way to soft for that. I probably have other capabilities, probably :-( not so sure anymore after crashing my previous, known indestructible, PowerDust G4. It was really blown to pieces after the modded cooling was replaced. Took me a fair two days to get a new hoover & remove all partikels.
One last question did you try VacuPal?
Best regards, M
Yes
Apparently no one likes our discussion, it counts > 130 views & only two contributors. So I'll go & entertain some others. Maybe less off-topic.
BTW Budapest is a nice city, been there a few times for business at Metro 7 years ago.

Yes, our capital city is a very nice place. I live here on the top of one of the cities mountains. There are a lot of beautiful top-view in Budapest like ours.
Don't worry about these off-posts, all this thread is a HUGE off-thread.
Oh I'm not worried. It was frz who was having an off-day posting this Magician topic on an Universal board ;-)
Too bad I quit working with the company I worked for at that time, otherwise I could have easily visited you someday. Now we don't travel that far for holidays, three little kids in the car isn't a pleasure on a long journey.
Sounds like you're living on a good spot.

Need some advice.

Hello, i am thinking of getting a new cell phone. I am thinking of getting the Nokia N95 or the HTC TyTN. To go to the base of the matter, i do not HAVE to chose from those 2. I just want a phone that has an OK to Good camera, i want it to be able to play music, i want it to have Bluetooth 2.0 capability and i would like it to work worldwide (if that's possible). The only reason i was looking at those 2 was because if i got them, they would probably last for a very long time, which is something taht i want, coz i dont want to upgrade every year, because those 2 will prob. last for atleast 4 years.
So if anyone can help me with that, i'll greatly appreciate it.
To quickly sum up what i want:
OK to Good camera
Music and Video Compatability
Bluetooth 2.0
Worldwide capability
Something that will last for a long time.
THANK YOU
Well, the tytn provides everything you want. except for the 4 years bit...
wake up, this is technology, your hermes will be old by the time you get it, with more advanced phones in the pipeline already.
i have had XDAII, the Jasjar, and now the Hermes, in 4 years. Mind you, the Hermes is a good solid stable phone whereas the others were a little volatile. It is also meets my personal and business needs with gusto.
So go for the tytn, I refuse to own nokia, though a lot of people like them so i am biased

Shall I buy Orange M3100?

Hi,
now I have an old Nokia 6230 in combination with Mio P550. Nokia is pretty old, but so far ok for me (only thing I really hate is that I cannot sort my contact list in groups as I want to) and I'm using Mio mainly for navigation (i-Go) and synchronization of my calendar and tasks. Now the time has come to change my mobile phone.
New phone will be from Orange (under contract) and consider two possibilities.
1. sell Nokia and Mio and buy Orange M3100 (SK)
2. stick with Mio and buy Nokia 6233 (or maybe E50, but not sure I want Symbian, WM is better)
Pos:
1. all-in-one, WM platform, keyboard
2. built-in GPS, all my phones are Nokia, so I have all equipment I need, price (difference is 450euro, but something will come back if I sell Mio)
Neg:
1. no working built-in GPS, need to buy BT GPS receiver, price
2. two devices and Nokia has now really troubles to get out some no-bug fw for this phone
I have read all topics related to M3100 on this forum. This is great device, but there is big chance, that something will go wrong (e.g. loosing GSM signal and muting issue). I'm confident I will not update the ROM in this device in first few months because Orange will not allow me to do it without loosing warranty.
So the big question. Shall I buy M3100? How big is the chance I will have really big issues? Are there some S/N ranges, revisions, that I should not buy?
Thanks for any info .
buy it
.
Very tempting to say
Don't buy it!
But that would just put you back to a bit of a dilemma.
Bear in mind that the majority of posts here are from those that have had problems. Very few people make posts to say hey my e-mail is working or I always manage to take a good picture etc etc. So reading here would make you believe there is hardly a device that works properly.
Most folks probably get along just fine, but I would say that there are a number of tweaks and settings that should be done as standard on this device and then a full backup so you can restore at the drop of a hat as and when you do face a problem.
Your other consideration might be to wait for the Kaiser say, though that could be a while and initial pricing could be very high. Also newly released devices are a challenge for the ROM Gurus but everyday users should wait for several months after initial release and problems are ironed out.
I've got mine working just fine now, but I still get the odd freeze every couple of weeks - I backup a lot so not a great problem in my view.
Mike
Thanks mikechannon.
I'm around on Internet for some time, so I know that mainly complaitns can be found on boards. Satisfied users are not searching boards like this to tell us that everything is ok. They have no need. That is why I asked "How big is the chance I will have really big issues?". Guys here are working with this device on advanced level and can tell me more in few words as an regular user.
At this moment I'm 80% sure I will take it. I feel in me something like "dream comes true" . And I don't know why, it's missing working build-in GPS and big screen with 640x480 (joke). I have still one week to make final decision. Today I sent email to Orange to know more about the device (ROM version, etc.), hopefully Orange will responde quickly. If there is big chance (nothing is for 100%) nothing will brake down I will buy it
I decided to wait couple of months since I was not entire sure.
After two weeks I finally received reply from Orange. There will be probably no official update to WM6 and I'm not allowed to use any unofficial firmware without loosing warranty (so nothing new). There was only one useful information in entire email. Software in M3100 is version 14.123.8.783. But I was not able to find anything with this number. Is this real or Orange sent me something that is not useful?
I have my M3100 for four months now without any issues. You can check these faulty batches here. Only problem I have had so far is low in-call volume, but I think that is dependant on the OS. If you are sure that is what you need then go for it. Veľa šťastia.
I went from a xda 2i to hermes and not regretted it. I plucked up nerve to install black 2.0 (very happy with it) and if it goes wrong just put original wm5 rom back on it.
As for the gps thing, ebay has some cheap bt recievers and you can use them on any other phone you buy in the future (on my 4th phone with same reciever)
Orange SPV 3100 straight out of the box isn't that great.
I've totally customised mine, and everything works great. My biggest problem were the usb headphones/handsfree, which I have now hacked to accept 3.5mm headphones.
The biggest problem, which is out of my hands, is the camera. Completely useless at night time/poor lighting. Other than that, I am very happy... size, weight, battery life and speed are just fine.
Go for it if you think you can customise it.
(BTW, I am using the OS straight out of the box, so no firmware updates (although I will be unlocking it soon))
if you can wait a little bit then i'd look at getting the kaiser once that's out.
if not get the 3100 now and with the help of this place you'll get it working the way it should. imo wm6 is a must
KarhU - what was the original ROM version in your device?
DeanJ - well, I can wait (till Xmas) . But what will be the price and will Orange have its own clone?

I do not know for sure (it did not stay there for long ), but I think it was that ROM (it has the same Radio I had and the same bootloader as well, also OS version is the same) and this Ext ROM. All the versions of Hermes available in Slovakia are not localized.

well its expected to be released june/july by htc from the last i read but if orange will brand it who knows, it seams a logical step and it just depends what built in gps and a thiner device means to you really. as for the price it'll prob be the same as the 3100 when it was first released, i dont know what that was as i got my hermes from t-mobile
Out of the box experience for the m3100...had to kid myself everything was running ok, it was slow and pretty sluggish, not amazing by any stretch! Quite a bit faster upgrading to WM6, however you're always on your toes anticipating the next crash/freeze!
I would recommend getting one. I always have mine with me and I couldn't be without it. It really is the best device on the market!!!!
Had my M3100 since December last year. Best handset I have ever had from Orange. Add this to www.xda-developers.com and you have powerfull combination. I have tried just about all the english WM5 roms and most of the WM6 ones too. If you follow all the tips, instructions & advice etc in the WIKIs you can't go far wrong! Take time to read and search! I am currently running Black Version 2.0, personal and company IMAP e-mail setup on it, along with TomTom 6 and various other apps. Bottom line, go get one!!!!
i have been using a 3100 now for months with no problems at all,,,i have upgraded to black version 2.0 with i only did for fun and everything is great...
go buy one now !!!
So, I have an offer for SPV. The s/n is starting with 357. How old is it? In wiki I found only 6xx and 7xx.
It's home . Now I need to search for some good applications to work with phone, contacts and messages .

Bye Bye Nokia,Hello Htc

After 10 years of nokias the n97 finally pushed me over the edge and i am expecting my new hd2 in the post today.Just a question about updating it.After installing the new 1.66 rom do i have to install any other htc official updates or are they all included in the new rom?
Is there a way to check for new updates on the device or do you have to check the htc site all the time?
Also whats this i read about updating the radio. What does this do?
Haha just like my story, my last Nokia was the N97 .. look what they did, they made us nokia users divert to another phone company.
Welcome aboard
Im not sure about the last question, but regarding the first, a fellow good user told me that you most likely not need the official updates, but you can check in the HTC support for the versions they support. Most of them are 1.59 or below, so in that case you dont need them
I think you need to check their support page, or the RSS feed there. Dont know if there is another way.
Hope I helped a bit.
1. First of all congrats to your decision to leave Nokia and move over to HTC - you'll never regret this, I guess...
2. Please use search-function in the future. You have only to install hotfixes that are needed for your ROM-version - so if e.g. on the HTC-page is written sth. like "needed for version <1.6" then you haven't to reinstall these hotfixes again with ROM 1.66 (installation wouldn't work anyway).
3. To check if there are new updates availabel, you have to visit HTC-website (support section) - you can put an RSS-feed onto your phone to check it also - this is my solution. Better it is to visit this thite here XDA-Developers often, and you'll get also informed and beneath this lot of feedback according the updates.
4. RADIO is the firmware for the receiver unit aso. - it is responsible for reception (GSM, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS etc.), very important for battery consumption and also responsible for a couple of other things like sound (not sure about these other things to be honest).
Hope this helps for the beginning.

+1 here
after tons of nokias, and painful waiting 7 months o release date of n97, i said googbye to nokia.
i gues they would need to make space shuttle in a phone to get me back
For me it's the same, too. After Nokia N70 and E90 Communicator, I also went to HTC. But I had two Pocket PCs more than ten years ago (Casio Cassiopeia), so finally meeting Windows Mobile again.
Same here.. My last phone was n97.. Didnt regret after changing to this phone and i just love my HD2 more and more as time goes by..
I was a devoted Nokia man for years, until one day I saw the Touch Diamond and was overcome with lust. I had my Diamond for a while, then a HD, and now the HD2. I can't imagine ever going back to Nokia now, but I'll always be fond of them.

My story almost the same. I had some Nokias, the last one was N95 and I then I bought a HTC Touch Diamond which... I generally hated . But it had a great GPS receiver and was very small so I was using it quite a while (for a year I guess) and now I'm using HD2 and I'm very happy with it although at first I was a little bit sceptic as I wasn't happy with my Diamond. Anyway in general HD2 is a great phone and I didn;t have some irritating problems with it so I would recommend it to anybody.
Same here, After years of Nokia and Symbian.. The N97 made me Mad ..
So here im HtC HD2
And i Love the Phone..
You've all been slow, look below at how long ago I did that move
hello guys i've beeen a hard core nokia user and after 12 yrs of nokia marriage i divorced it when there was no sign of a new communicator.....
same story here. From the N97 to HD2. Best choice ever. Nokia user for about 10years, but its very doubtful that i will ever go back to Nokia again after the N97 experience. The new flagship after the N95 failed bigtime.
Add another one to the list. I was using the Nokia 5530, and I just sold it on Saturday (literally) to help finance my HD2 purchase. I'll soon join the ranks, and as my wife just said to before I saw this post, "I don't want to ever buy another Nokia phone."
I agree. Symbian drove me crazy. None of these models have enough system memory to function well enough. The N97 is a disaster.
I'm glad I found this forum, because otherwise I would not have known how customizable the HD2 really is, and the fact that it runs Windows Mobile would have caused me to shy away from it.
just settings up the new phone . I have got a major problem hope someone can help

He he this is turning in to an Ex-N97 owners convention.
I'm in too and on a brighter note my wife loves it
