T-Mobile (unlocked) MDA Compact II speaker not working - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

hello all this is my first post so ill try and be as quick and concise as possible.
i seemed to have lost all sound from the built in speaker. no clicking or any sound comes from it and the only way i can hear music, games etc is by using the hands free. i dont know whats caused it :-S i did use a charger which wasnt official, but it did have the same voltage rating as the device needed
all help is appreciated!
Adam

Mine had a dead speaker before. Went into the HTC factory for warranted repair twice. I think it is the same problem. Go contact HTC Europe, www.htceurope.com , give them a call and leave a message. They will call you back after a day or so. Just give them your IMEI and they will know if your phone is still under waranty or not. No other proofs are required.

Help! No sound trough speaker

Well, that's weird. My friends new XDA 2 is acting up. He lost his soubd trough speaker couple of days ago, and then it came back. Today it happened again. I have no clue what's going on, hard reset didn't help. Any suggestions?
TIA
Has he been using hands free headset? If its anything like the xda 1 the connecter is very problematic and prone to problems.
Yes, very frequently. Looks like that's it. He connected and disconnected couple of times again and now it works.
Hello everyone...
Well, I'm another victim but in this case my MDA2 is muted but not deaf...
I'll explain... Most people with this problem have said that they can't hear nor can be heard when they have this headphones plug problem (i.e. The plug when inserted got the contacts stuck so the system thinks the plug is still inserted).
But in my case the other party DO hear me (this is without using a headphones) but I can't hear them or the system sounds, music, etc. but when I plug my headphones I can hear all sounds with no problem.
The day it failed it was all of a sudden, no water, no bumps, no nothing... actually I was not even using my headphones, so the jack it's out of the equation...
Any ideas?
Well as a matter of fact, about three weeks ago I dropped my MDA2 to the pavement and it scratched the case a bit, but it was working fine for the last three weeks...
Do you think this may be a retarded symptom of the accident three weeks ago?
I'm starting to think the speaker failed or got unsoldered...
Any ideas?
Thanks!!!
Rayan
hi Rayan
i had the following problem: i couldn't TURN UP the volume.
i could move the volume slider, but when i took another look to see if the device did really set the slider to the volume i had set - nada - zero.
volume was down again.
if you encounter the same problems: make it short and give your device a COLD reboot. that was the only thing that did help and gave me back audio.
regards ize|man
Hi izeman,
Well, I even performed a hard reset to factory defaults and nothing!!!
And because of that I'm sure it's a hardware problem...
I just hope it's a simple fixable hardware problem... I'm just wating to get in touch with the guy's at gsmphonesource.com (I have sent SEVERAL emails and voicemails and no one has contacted me back!) (nice customer service huh? :? )
Well I'll let you know how this story ends...
Thanks,
Rayan
WHOOOHOOO!
I fixed the problem!!!
Since the guys where I purchased my MDA2 NEVER returned my calls and emails, I got desperate and fix it myself!!! (I know I void my warranty, but it was useless anyway since those *&^%$ guys refused to take my calls)...
Anyhow, I carefully opened my MDA2 and got all the way into the speaker (which is actually encased in a module with two small gold plated connectors on the top) and cleaned them both, on the speaker module and the motherboard where two matching springs are located. I even carefully pulled the springs to give them a little more "pressure" when assembled.
Well, what can I say... I'm very happy to have my sound back!!!
If someone want to go this route, please let me tell you that it was a pain in the buttocks just to pry open the casing, but now I know how to do it, so drop me a line if you need any assistance... Maybe I will document the procedure with pictures once I have some spare time!...
(Now I can get rid of my stupid wired headset... It's amazing how those damn wires get to tangle so much!)
Best regards!

Sound problems
Hi Rayan,
Good to know you fixed it - I have exactly the same problem; speaker only works intermittently.
I'd like to take to up on your offer to provide further details; especially how your opened the case without damaging it. :?:
cheers,

Speaker not working

hi guys..
I was watching a video clip and suddenly I see I can't hear any audio from it. I was surprised.. I tried to soft reset it couple of times... but with no luck... I couldn't here any tap sound or even when the phone rings.. nothing sounds.. and finally I did hard reset... but in despair.. still the same problem. but when I try to shake my jam. I could feel something moving.. i don't know if any bit/piece is disconnected.. when i try to tap it hard at the speaker.. i could hear to the music and after few seconds.. its stops.. again..
Has anyone come across such a problem.. I think probably my speaker needs to replaced.. any suggestions or solutions to this..
I would await for ur replies.
kindly advise..
thanks
Iffu
i have the same problem to. Please Help!
This is a "common" problem with the Magician. Mine had it as well. I sent it for repair since it's still under warranty. Some ppl had the guts to open it and fix the loose contact themselves. So if you're not a techie just take it to your service centre for repair :-(
No sound?
Hi. i had a similar problem some days ago. no sound at all from my magician. i've discovered that the problem was that my magician thought i had headphones conected. a simple insert of a headphone jack and removal brought my sound back to live. No problems since than.
Just a gentle few bangs did the trick
After reading several suggestions and info about the speaker problem, I tested my 02 mini with a song. It played ok through the speaker. So the speaker works, but appears to not "Switch" on when being used as a phone. Anyway long story short - I hit the corner of it into the palm of my hand a few times and da da it works again. I also blew through the speaker hole. Someone mentioned that somewhere as well. Hitting into my hand seemed to provide enough impact without creating any damage.
Had same problem too, and sent it away for repair. Three weeks later and the repair company are sending me a replacement this week as apparently they were unable to fix it!
Fault appeared without any warning and I had been using the phone pretty heavily all day. All I hope is that the replacement will have a newer ROM installed to save my ineptness from screwing up an upgrade.
This Jam is a peice of shi#e. I bought one in February, had various problems with both speakers - regular earpiece was unclear and speaker phone was just too damn low in volume.
Some people claimed this was an exception, or that it was the ROM or whatever. Right......
Finally sent the Jam back for warranty repair in May- there were many other defects with the phone that accumulated. I had bought insurance as well so I told them to just replace it. The seller admitted that this (audio/speaker is a common problem in this phone)
I just got the insurance replacement today - yep ages later. This one has firmware 1.11 WWE.
Guess what: the speakerphone on this one (brand new replacement) doesn't work - at all. Not at all. This is brand new, out of thebox. Incredible....
What is worse is that I am going on a month-long trip in a couple of days, so there is no way I can get another one - and by the looks of it, even if I got a replacement, the chances are that it too is a piece of ****#e without a functional speakerphone. This I-mate Jam (or whatever the 50 name sit goes by) is just a low quality piece of garbage.
HTC/I-Mate is garbage company. There is no chance in hell I will be buying any future Jam or I-mate phone.

Problem with speaker and mic

Today I lost the speaker and mic in my 8125. I don't know what's the problem. I can't hear anything from the speakers nor use the microphone. The headphones work but not the internal speaker. What could be the problem?
I need help!!!
Diego
Still no microphone nor speaker in my 8125. I tried restoring to original set up without a change. I think it's a hardware problem and I';m taking it to CIngular for a exchange.
If anyone can help, please let me know.
Thanks
Diego
exact same thing for me. had this playing music when i removed the head phone jack and was surprised to hear that no sound came out of the external speakers ...
now i can't even use the phone ... WTF?!?
Well, I contacted Cingular Suport on the phone and they're sending a replacement. Apparently is a defect of the 8125 hardware and many have reported this problem too.
@MeatPopSci
Contact your service provider to get a replacement.

Dont Worry Bro Its No Big Deal, Calm yourself down and listen carefully, The reason its not working is that when you insert the headphone jack into it (there is a small jumper in it which works through a spring so when you insert the jack inside so it disconnects the main audio circuit) so sometimes due to some dryness or may be somethingelse it doesnt connect back, I just recently fixed one Device with the same problem but since i know how to open it and so i did but for you, i guess the top priority would be not loosing the warranty and that you surely will once you tried opening it but ofcourse you need tools for that, so heres a small tip which may work, Open media Player, Play a song and than try inserting the jack back into it and take it out, do it with a little force, it may start working but that will still not be a proper solution to it. Thats all i can help, if there is still you need my assistance in understading the way how to open it than dont forget to drop me a reminder mail on my mail box and ill check back and will tell you more if it didnt work.
Thanks man, a replacement is coming anyway, but it's good to know.

first i thought software was the problem so after a soft reset followed then a hard reset both failed to restore the sound i figured it had to be mechanical.
so i basically did what you said till TOOL started playing via the external speakers.
needless to say i am very concerned that this $$$ phone is so easily made useless.
BTW thanks for the help!
No Problem! It made me happy
Well, im so glad my idea worked n yes u know for me if it stinks, its chemistry
if it hurts, its biology
n if it doesn't work,
its definately physics(electronics) lol
so i dont depend or trust electronics
Anyway the pleasure was all mine, no need to thank
takecare!

Qtek 9100 - Mic & speaker dead, for the 2nd time

Hello all!
First, thanks for an awesome forum! It has both helped me tweak my Wizard, and also get help when I have needed it.
Well, I have no choice now but to ask here. Last autumn, my warranty was almost up, and a wierd problem presented itself. The mic and speaker suddenly just stopped working! The sidespeakers still work, I think, because the phone rings when someone calls me. But the caller can't hear me, and I can't hear the caller. And there isn't a hint of sound in it, no static or noise, there simply is nothing.
As there were only a few days before the 2 year warranty was up, I ran to my dealer and turned it in. A few weeks later, the phone returned, working again. But now that I come to think about it, I don't remember if I got a replacement or if they actually repaired it... It looked a little like they handled it rough though, maybe it was another phone... Well, that's not important right now.
The same thing has happened again! Summary:
1. Mic & phonespeaker dead
2. Stereo speakers work under certain conditions
3. Wired headset that came with the phone works, both for calling and media
So it seems like a hardware problem. Please note, although I downgraded the phone to original, official Swedish Qtek 9100 ROM, it has been thoroughly tweaked and upgraded to a number of different WM6 ROMs - but all that has been working beatifully!
Still, what are the odds for the mic&speaker dying twice in a row, on different phones (i think the present one is a replacement)?!?
Question: Does anyone recognize this? Is there a possibility that it is software related, and maybe fixable? I have searched both the web and these forums but haven't really found any information on it.
ANY input would be greatly appreciated!
Additional information:
Qtek 9100 (Swedish), G3 model, WM6 upgrade successful (unlocked)
EDIT: There are no system sounds, which is wierd, because the phone can still ring. I thought the system sounds came from the stereo speakers on the sides of the device?
Hello all!
It is a glorious day to be alive!!! Or to have a fully functional Wizard, at least!
Lol - my topic isn't very old, and i reply to it myself with a solution (?). I Googled after the Wizard service manual, and found it right here on Xda .
In all honesty, i didn't do all that much. I just followed the disassembly instructions of the wizard about half-way through, to the point where you get down to the back of the motherboard. I poked and fiddled enough to locate the mic assembly, only to discover that the mic is soldered to the mainboard of the phone. So, i figured i'd just leave it be, because if the mic is really broken the motherboard needs to be repleaced, or a replacement mic needs to be soldered on there.
After removing A LOT of dust in there (honestly, i think the service center that had my device last time wasn't very careful with anything, even a screw was missing! ), i reassembled it. The flat cable running to the keyboard was also a little skewed, but that may have been me, anyway i corrected it too. Same with the speakers.
Long story short, after successfully reassmbling the phone, i fired it up, called my home phone and voila! I works!
Not much of a fix, as i don't really know what i did exactly, but dust, dirt and some bad connections/soldering may have benn the culprit.
All in all, i'm very pleased with my afternoon here. Thanks for stopping by .

hi epatnor,
I think the problem with your phone was a stucked microswitch in the 2,5 mm connector for the headset. I read about it here in the forum. Sometimes the switch stays in the closed position and the phone still thinks the headset is connected. Thats why all the sound is sent to the not connected headset and therefor your phone seems to be not working (unless you connect the headset)...
But removing the dust is for sure not a bad thing...
For the next time: I think there was an easier solution for this problem than disassembling your phone...
regards
huibuh_1
Thanks huibuh_1,
Yes this was probably not the smoothest way of "fixing" it. That said, the stucked microswitch theory would actually fit my problem well - I can see now that the exact problem I was having would arise if such a switch was indeed stuck.
However, I think that the problem would be more intermittent since I actually use that port now and then - especially since it's the only way to talk (besides using a bluetooth headset that is). And since I connect the wired headset now and again the switch is used and moved, I suspect that this would result in the speaker/mic coming online again maybe..? Temporarily at least?
All the same, thanks for replying - this might happen again and with your information I'm better prepared for it!

No sound from earpiece during calls - only via speaker

I seem to have a problem with my HTC Touch (ELF)
I recently upgraded to another phone (diamond) and was giving my Touch to my brother.
After leaving it unused for a couple of weeks, I got round to flashing a new rom onto the phone (Blue Elves 5)
I gave the phone to my brother (without testing anything I didn't have time).
He then told me that there is a problem with the sound - nothing is heard at all via the earpiece during calls, however it works fine from the external loudspeaker.
I guessed that it may be that the rom didn't install properly so I talked him through a hard reset - no joy. Still no sound.
I have today installed another ROM - PDAVIET - latest version, and flashed the radio to the latest version. The problem is still there.
My brother insists that he has not dropped / knocked the phone at all, and I don't doubt him. I am however at a complete loss as to why all of a sudden there is no sound from the earpiece. I have used the phone for a year, with various different ROMs and never had any loss of or distorted sound from the earpiece.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be? How can I fix this?
Any help very much appreciated!
(Also - yes - the volume is turned up)
I think you better read this

let me no how you get on
thanks but this doesn't help as my warranty and contract are ended. any other ideas welcome.
thanks.
Could this be a problem with the registry? would flashing ROMs fix the registry? Is there a registry setting for disabling the speaker?
I have the exact same problem. Let me know if you find a solution please !
I think you guys need this:

good luck!!
I have the same problem, but I did prefer to use the speaker anyway. So now I use this:

Works fine on the Elf!

Thank you 'thedaddy'.
You were right. I disassembled the phone and found that one of the copper connections of the earpiece speaker had broken. Bought a replacement from eBay which fixed the problem.
Thank you.
Chris.

Look for the hong kong guys that ship it with the tools to get the job done.
Good Luck.
