Hi guys!
I am thinking of investing a few dollars in a 2.5" to 3.5" plug (I think I found a good one) and I want to start plugging in my Wizard to my portable stereo.
This way I can listen to playlists by the pool, in hotel rooms, etc.
I was wondering if you guys have any advice or words of wisdom?
Are you happy with Windows Media Player?
Can it use playlists created in WMP from the Windows XP edition?
Sound quality okay?
Does the machine freeze at all?
I reallllly don't want to buy an iPod, so instead of experimenting, I figured I would ask you guys for your opinions on the matter.
In terms of the plug adapter, I know there are other threads about this. I am looking at the one at Pocket PC Techs.
I wonder if any other media player app allow cross-fading between tracks. I don't think the WMP does.
I look forward to any advice/comments/ideas before I get started!
Thanks!
Mike
Mort player
I use Mort Player and it works well. It is freeware which is a bonus. I splashed out a whole 79p (That's 79 whole English pence) on an adaptor and the sound through my Creative headphones is great. I only use it as a back up for my mp3 anyway but it works a treat.
use tcpmp instead-its got eq/pre amp etc and it plays more than just mp3/wma.
think I payed about 1.50 for my adaptor. I recommend Koss Sparkplug headfones, they sound excellent 8)
Thanks guys!~
And hey... those are some cheap adapters! I found ones that were more expensive.
Do you have any specific model numbers?
I heard that many make the sound in Mono, or don't work well with out four-pin out Wizards...
Thanks!!
Mike
2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor
The adaptor I purchased was very cheap (and some would say nasty) but it works well with a decent set of stereo headphones. Indeed I was surprised at the sound quality compared to the standard phones that come with the device.
The adaptor on the maplins site may be found:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/search.aspx...criteria=2.5mm Stereo Jacks&doy=8m8&worldid=3
I have also been using my pda as an mp3 player for a while now. I use it mostly for podcasts, I have two ways of using it.
1) I have an adaptor I bought from expansys about 2 years ago for my first PDA Phone, and it happens to work with each I have owned since. I listen in the car with a tape deck adaptor and also with headphones.
2) I use WM5 Storage and connect it to my work laptop using a spare USB cable. Using WMP on my work computer I listen as if it was just a spare drive in the system.
I got my adapter from a Hong Kong dealer via eBay and it's great. Proper 4-pole mini plug and it even includes a tie-clip microphone in-line so you can use it as a hands-free in the car or whereever. Works great, and seems well enough built for the price of about 90p plus £3.50 postage! I wish I'd got a couple more in the same package now, so I could have one connected to the home Hi-Fi, etc.
Wanna go splits on the postage on a few?
Andre
I shelled out about 70 USD for a Jabra BT stereo headset. Best ever investment I made. Although it's pretty big and more like the studio headphone the sound quality is really good. Plus I use my phone handsfree and I can pick up calls easy as the music pauses and resumes after the calls.
If you have the money, you should try it. It's liberating.
the 2 ways i listen to music is
1: at the gym with my jabra bt620 which i love because of the great quality and no wires and
2: at work with my music docking station from brando seen here
http://shop.brando.com.hk/imatekjammusicdock.php
cant go wrong for 35 bux shipped and the sound is great for the price and has volume control right on top. and it matches the wizard perfectly.
you can answer calls with it also. check it out.
I just went to the local electrostore and bought the adaptor for € 1.
I'm also using it in my car to listen to radiostations on the internet.
I'm using a cassettetape with a headjack on it, put that in the adapter....
Great sound on my carstereo!!!
Hey... there is some cool information in here.
Thanks guys!
I am checking out the sites now... I'll also take a walk over to the local electronics store or Radio Shack. Maybe a simple adapter will work for me...
If not, I'll order one!
And that i-mate K-JAM Music Dock looks neat! Are you SURE it's good with a Wizard? Is the bass decent? It's nice!!!!
Thanx!
WMP stinks for PodCasts, it never remembers where you left off when you previously listened. It is great however for A2DP.
I had bought the Logitech iPod wireless headset for my old iPod, and once I put A2DP on my MDA I paired the Logitech with it and presto, I had a great headset that worked in stereo with the MDA.
I use WMP when I need to be able to control the selections (next, previous, pause, play) with the headset. Otherwise I use TCPMP for listening in my car, since it will remember where I left off the last time I listened. I have a cable that plugs directly from my phone to the AUX input on my car stereo, and the sound is fabulous.
I would like to see someone (Microsoft, take a hint!) make a media player that puts bookmarks in songs so whenever you come back to that song/podcast you can have the choice to pickup where you left off, or start over from the beginning. With podcasts and audio books, I always want to pick up were I left off. This is where iPod kicks butt over everything else! And I miss that part of it. (my son needed my iPod more than I did to "fit in" with all the kids at school, so he has it now)
I highly recommend if you don't have A2DP yet to get it, either by downloading the A2DP cab file or upgrading your MDA to the AKU2 ROM that will have it. Then get yourself some A2DP capable headphones like the Motorola HT820 (I've heard good things about these) or the iCombi AH10 headset. Both will act as headphones as well as have the mic to talk when someone calls.
I tried Mort Player and was unimpressed with it, but give it a go, you can always uninstall it. Same with GSPlayer Beta for WM5.

Taking into consideration what I have below, which cab file should I use. I have a HT820 and am just chomping at the bit to get a2dp. Thanks.
A2DP and a bluetooth stereo headset is definitely the way forward! It's made my MP3 listening much more pleasurable than before when I used a 2.5 - 3.5mm jack and had to have my Wizard in cable length of my ears.
More expensive, but definitely the way to go.
MortPlayer + Car Screen Skin = Awesomeness.
I use PocketMusic, works a treat. The free version's okay, I tried the bundle and whilst some of the bits are good (the today-screen plugin) it wasn't enough to warrant paying for it. Main thing I like about it is that it looks good, and also can browse for choons directly from a network drive (which WMP, Mort and others didn't seem to be able to do).
Thanks for all the interesting info, guys.
I am excited to go look for a 2.5" -> 3.5" adapter that will work.
I actually had a dream last night (this morning) that I found an adapter and was impressed with the sound, having plugged it into a portable player.
(yeah, pretty sad that this is what I dream about.......!)

You need to get out more.
I got my adapter from eBay. Cost £2 IIRC.
Check out manyui on eBay. He sells adapters for tons of phones. I ordered one for my MDA from him and it works great.
Hello all...
My first post here!
I found this site by googling the term "Bluetooth Toggle", which was presented to me by a Cingular CSR. Looks like a great place for information, so I know I will be hanging here often! :!:
What I want to know is, can audio files stored on the mini SD card in the phone be played VIA bluetooth to a bluetooth enabled car stereo I intend to buy (or any bluetooth device or receiver for that matter) to use as a handsfree kit? The radio is a Pioneer DEH-9800BT and will do the handsfree job well.
What I would like to accomplish is the elimination of carrying a portable MP3 player along with the phone as I do now! I have a wireless FM transmitter that I plug it into in the car and a second set of stereo speakers at my desk to listen to the audio files on the portable MP3 player. Can this new phone transmit the audio VIA bluetooth to the car stereo and also to my desk PC, with some type of bluetooth reciever/adapter/widget type device?
I haven't received the phone yet, but it should arrive in the next couple of days, so I'm trying to get a jump on getting it setup. Does anyone know if this phone can handle a 4GB Mini SD card or is there a limit on the size?
Thanks for any help!!

Well... Im not sure about this BUT...
Has your car got a tape player? If so you can buy a cassette to IPod cnnecter and then a headphone socket adaptor to your phone. This would enable you to play your mp3s from your phone in your car.
Below is some ebay links that I used, the sellers have more of the same items still for sale.

Hope this helps

This is what I do. Works great. Of course you have to have a cassette player in your car. Another option is a FM modulator but I don't like them for at least 2 reasons. 1-It times out from inactivity so you tend to get blasted by static when getting reconnected and 2-It's another piece of equipment to flop around inside your car.
Pioneer 9800bt
I bought a 9800bt, It does work with the wizard. However you have to manually connect BTAUDIO. The phone will auto connect but it is clunky. If you are listening to BTAUDIO from your phone and you receive a call the phone tells the radio and you can answer it on the radios remote. However when the call ends your BTAUDIO goes into chopper mode after that and you have to disconnect and reconnect.
Thanks for the quick replies!
I will post my results after I buy mine and install it, and of course, try to figure it out.
I just go the phone last night and it's complicated for my first PDA/Phone?PocketPC.
I am just now trying to figure out how to get my phonebook out of my 6340i and load it into the 8125... Whew..
Thanks again!

Hello all...
I finally purchased an 8125 by extending my Cingular contract for 2 years and got it for $199.99. I looked everywhere for a good deal so I wouldn't have to do that, but no joy!
Anyway, as I said above, I also purchased a Pioneer DEH-9800BT in dash CD/MP3/WMA/Bluetooth receiver in my vehicle, and so far I am able to make calls through the stereo which is fantastic!
The only thing I found that I hope there is a way around is that when I beam my contacts from my phone to the Pioneer, the radio doesn't seem to like the format Outlook uses.
When I beam a contact, the number format in Outlook is like this; 1 (555) 555-1212, but the radio sees it like this; 1 555 555 1212 and spaces make the dialing stop. It appears the Pioneer doesn't recognize spaces, commas, dashes or parethesis characters and just makes a space where they were in the dial string!
Has anyone seen this issue on any other type of devices?
I would also like to add a 2GB MiniSD card and play audio VIA BT to the stereo, but I can't for the life of me figure out how??? The stereo says it can do it, but I think I need to add something to the 8125 to make it work!
I have searched this and other forums but I am even more confused on what I have to do. It looks like I have to add a A2DP to the 8125, but not sure how to do it, and I sure don't want to hose it up my first month. It's not like a PC where I can just blow it out and start over again, as from the reading I have done so far, I see some folks with bricks!
I have added all the specs from my phone below so I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction!
Thanks again!!
Tom

scosche alternative
I bought a Scosche bluelife receiver and tried to make it work with my 8125, works terrific for only a few minutes and even that is after a rather stylus intensive setup everytime you get in the car.
I too have a pioneer unit (no cassette) and subsequently bought the $10 cd adapter cable on Ebay, and use a JustWireless 3.5 to 2.5 adapter with mic to connect it all together. Other than cables draped all over the car, it works awesome for calls and music. SOund quality is excellent.
An added benefit of the hard wire.... no a2dp puzzles to figure out either... That was a pain to get going on the 8125. Good luck.
9800BT and Wizard
I have the pioneer 9800bt and a Qtek 9100 (Wizard). As said earlier I have to manually connect the phone to the deck either from the phone or deck. To do it from the deck the phone has to be "registered" with the deck.
After much research I found that the reason for the need for manual reconnection is due to the horrible bluetooth stack of the MS phones. The deck automatically detects and connects to my Blackberry 7290 and a friends Sony 910i.
BT Audio works fine, once the devices are connected just press Src to get to BT Audio and start playing from the phone. Unlike phone calls the phone does not initiate connection for audio playback.
I just orderd a Sony 990i to replace my Qtek.
I had the P990i for literally 2 days. I immediately sold it. With the latest ROM, the unit is slow and menu is clunky. I use Direct Push and with the RoadSync software, it's buggy. Hardly any software available.
Things I did like about the P990, it's slim to hold and light (but it's all thin plastic). The camera is the best I ever used on a phone. Sharp and clear. Bluetooth with the HBH-DS970 headphones were sweet but the volume wasn't as loud as I wanted. Screen was crisp with the smaller screen.
For phone features and bluetooth, it was excellent. For PDA use, it was useless (to me, anyways).
Overall, I'm glad I got the chance to play with it - now, I know how the unit performs and I won't have that 'wish I had it feeling'.
Good luck.

Jason langridge over at his MSDN Windows Mobile Blog Site recently posted some info about the new Parrot MK6000 Car Kit which incorporates A2DP Bluetooth Audio streaming. Its not exactly what you are after but its a good example of an out of box solution.
See Jason's post here: http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/2006/09/30/778362.aspx
and the link to the Parrot MK6000 product page here: http://www.parrot.biz/usa/products/parrotmk6000.

Bluetooth and Wizard
The Wizard can do all those things. As you can see from this thread there is a bit of incompatibility with the Pioneer 9800BT but it does work fully once manually connected.
For the PC all u need is a bluetooth adapter, I believe Windows already provides the headset profile so the phone can play to the PC also.
You may need to upgrade your ROM on the Wizard to get A2DP support.
I am not aware of a memory limit on the phone, I have a 2gig miniSD, the only reason I dont have a 4gig is because I couldnt find one at the time.
9800BT does not dial spaces
I worked around the dial from phone book issue with the deck by changing all of my contact numbers to solid numbers with no spaces or symbols. I used a scripts of course, I have almost 100 contacts.
I've been looking at the Alpine BT adapter for use with an Alpine head unit. It apparently supports handsfree, A2DP and AVRCP. Anyone here tried it?
anyone tested the MK6000???
Hey guys..
Basically the cd player in my car broke (it was a nice lil sony thing) and well the car ride home was tooo quite so what I ended up doing was playing mp3 tru the phone speaker and had tomtom connected to an external bluetooth gps navigating me home..
And well I quite liked it Only thing was I wanted better sound quality obviously and I thought it would've been neat to change tracks without having to minimise tomtom...
So I did a quick search and look what I found:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/7-MOTORIZED-...ryZ67772QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Supports A2DP too!!
My question: Can I have my phone connected to an external gps via bluetooth whilst also streaming music to the car via bluetooth??
Also has anyone had any experience with these devices? They are a bit cheap.. but the SD card slot and 7" screen + divx and usb support are also really nie features i'm intersted in... also the bluetooth for answering calls is kinda sweet.

For your specific case i am not sure. But, as an indication, i do not have any problem to connect tomtom on an external gps through bluetooth and to use a stereo headphone to listen to music. When i use tomtom, it is in "mute" then i do not know how it would react if tomtom "speaks" and you listen to music...

Well.. i think that would cover it then... because it shouldn't be any different between car / headphones... also i'm pretty sure it'll just spit out whatever comes tru the normal speakers too, because when my headphones worked i'm pretty sure i remember hearing menu clicks and stuff too.. so I would assume if tomtom wasn't on mute it would play the voice prompts.. which is what I would like actually too...
Hey, I just found out that you can play music over 2 headsets. Just use the mini-USB headset (from any old HTC device, I got an HTC Touch from which I borrowed it) and the 3.5mm headset, so both the USB-connector and the 3.5mm are used plays music over both. I guess phonecalls will work too haven't tried yet
not that big news I guess, but I didn't see anything on it yet.

Good spot, might come in useful sometimes.
This weekend, I lost my 1st gen iPod nano
I've been using my EVO in the car, and I really like it.
Who else does this? What are some tips?
For example, when I'm listening to music, and a text comes in, the music stops and the chime is incredibly loud through the car speakers. I would like for this to not happen anymore.
What are some good accessories for this?
Thanks!
Well the only way to stop the ringing is by turning notification sounds off.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
some music apps have a setting as to whether or not you have disruptions. i think winamp is one, it can lower the volume and have a notification or no notifications. i just use the stock player and just set it to vibrate.
I use it as my MP3 Player...
I use this application called Audiogalaxy....it allows me to hear all the music that's in my PC through my phone...I love it!
I just have my notifications set to be really quiet all the time, but that's just a personal preference that transfers well to using the phone as an mp3 player.
I use PowerAmp; I'm a fan of the way it looks, the lockscreen widget, and I also like how I can have it start playing automagically when I plug the aux. cable in, and it stops when I pull it out. Eventually I'll get a bluetooth setup, but that costs money.
Someday after I get my google music collection properly tagged and organized I'll give the google music player a shot to see how it is, but right now with a 16gb microsd card, it seems to be enough for me to maintain a good enough collection.
I've just started using my evo 4g as a mp3 player for my car and love it. I used to use my ipod touch, but got tired of syncing music. Now I use my evo and the new google music beta with my evo connected to my system using an aux. wire. I never really had any problems with my notifications going off with the music playing.
It works good playing podcasts to, I use Doggcatcher (worth the 6.99) I drive all day and music gets old, there are tons out there depending on your interests, I like when calls come through the car speakers... hands free all the way!
Sent from my green lantern EvO using XDA Premium App
In one of my cars I've got a Pioneer AVIC D3 GPS system with bluetooth. What's awesome about this system and my EVO is that the Pioneer unit supports A2DP stereo. So I can actually play my music through bluetooth, no cable connection required! Pretty badass.
The only bad thing about it is that Android bluetooth is ass because the bitpool settings are too low and there's no way to up them. As a result bluetooth sound quality sucks. On my old Windows Mobile 6.1 phone you could change the bitpool settings by editing the registry, and with my Senheiser MM100 bluetooth headphones I swear the sound is a good as a decent pair of wired headphones. Hooked up to my Evo the same headphones are unlistenable. That's why I still use my old Windows mobile phone as an MP3 player for the gym.
I listen to Pandora all day at the office using my EVO connected to an Altec Lansing Bluetooth speaker.
I had the "GPS Reboot" issue on my old EVO, so I just use it like an iPod to listen to my mp3's loaded on the SD card, and occasionally Pandora when I have WiFi access. Like having a free iPod.
As an aside, I keep my current work EVO stock (except for the launcher), and use my old EVO for loading different ROM's etc. Best of both worlds.
My EVO repalced my iPod months ago. I have a 16GB card, and I use PlayerPro.
Loaded with features and it looks nice! Well worth the $$$
I also use DI.FM Radio, which is linked in my signature.
If you like electronic music, you will *love* DI.FM!
