is there a way to do a full reset without going thu the contole pannel?
also a way to reboot, without the startup group running..
thanks
eaton
there is a way to perform a hard reset which will set your phone back to stocksettings. This will delet everything of your phone and completly install the rom from scratch.
while doing a soft reset hold the commbutton and the camerabutten when the phone is booting. if done correctly it will install the rom new and everything will be set back to stock.
Rebooting without the startup grp loading..
Go into explorer and rename the startup folder in \Windows to something else - (or move/delete the links therein)

The 3 colour bar is the bootloader mode. That is NOT hardreset. You ought to get away from that screen before you've done any damage Anyway, there is a standard way of hardreset your unit from the software. Go
Start->Settings->System(tab below)->Clear Storage
works for every WM5 devices.

With all this talk about WM5 devices not really resetting everything after a hard reset, and my device being dead and not recovering after a hard reset makes me think, there must be an alternate way to really hard reset a device back to factory condition.
I tried a lot of combinations of presses to no end. The only thing I am suspicious about but did not play with is a red/white round sticker (which looks like it is hiding a button) under the battery (upper left corner).
Anyone know what that is, or is there a way to do a harder reset? Taking the battery out for a few days did not help either.
Because flash memory actually needs erasing rather than just resetting I doubt it is possible to clear it with a simple button press. It may be you can do a normal hard reset and hold down a button to bypass loading data from the flash then format it. But I've no idea really.

Re-flash the ROM?
uuummm some where in this forum i read that if you have wm2005 and go to boot loader mode you get an option over there to clear the cache or memory something like that, and that would give you a clean installation.....
haven't tried it though.....and i doubt i would get such an option in wm2003se, also i have a similar problem i did a complete flash reinstallation of rom to my device and after the installation i opened windows media player (wasnt the first thing i opened, but didnt copy any files)and guess what....i had a song available over there..... which i could actually play and it did....i checked the location of the file and it was somewhere in my device or documents dont quite remember i did a hard reset again and same issue....
after that i have'nt tried anything the rom is same i just deleted the folder manually but i would also like to know how to TOTALLLLLLY ERASE ALL DATA from the device and clean install everything
regards
on the XDA II and WM5 you hold down the buttons to resent stage then i gives you three options. One of these I am sure clears the phone
I hard reset my Universal several times (well I think I did at least)
Press the soft reset plus the two "-" buttons and you will have a white screen asking if you want to put back your HTC back factory default
Unfortunately that standard hard reset, doesn't do it. I am still stuck at reboot, and the radio rom version shows the attempted upgrade version (01) that started the problem in the first place.
i tried some of them according to herein, but some of them were not function.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Technical
there's a little icon called "clear storage" which brings your settings to the factory's default. what's wrong with it?
i'm stuck too in bootloader with my mda pro

This may be too late, but there's no way to do any sort of a reset to revert back to a previous ROM... the only thing you can do is reflash the earlier ROM.
Brett
ok ... now the final BIG request ... who can give us an update that works. the patched Maupgradeut_noid is not working with the latest upgrade.
thanks.
To revert back to clean copy of OS (i.e newly installed OS)
Hi,
Just to share with you my experience in reverting my phone to its original OS condition. Before that, just to give you guys some background.
1. Upgraded from PPC2003 to WM5
2. Tried install some patch to enable file transfer (OBEX) in BT
3. Suddenly, the phone screen gone missing. Phone shows No Signal. Cannot receive call.
3a. Did a OS reflash again, but still does not solve the problem.
4. **Panic for a moment **
5. Looked thro Program Files, and seems like some appln i installed were not erased despite doing a hard reset. So, i guess the hard reset doesnt erase some portion of the memory
6. Googled for a solution, but most said do hard reset
7. Went back xda-developers.com site to look for solution
8. Finally found a method. see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1164331 to do a format on the memory
Now, my phone is working fine. The phone screen is back and it shows my telco name, and can receive call
Hope this helps.
Rgds,
Choon
you're in the wrong forum mate
Hi guys,
I just tried to upgrade to the latest o2 Exec ROM, followed all the instructions to the letter ... then the dialog box that says "getting device information.... don't unplug, bla bla" came up and stayed the same for over 70 minutes and decided something isn't right, so I unplugged it.
Now, my exec only shows "USB v1.00" screen ... can't turn it off, and hard reset can't restore anything. It appears my ROM has already been zapped clean ? ...
Arrrggghh, this is driving me nuts. If anyone can tell me how I can get things back to normal, I would be eternally grateful
Chris
the same happened to me.
Connect the usb cable again and try running the setup wizard again.
1) Disconnect your Universal from the cable.
2) Perform a hard reset by pressing the 2 (-) buttons simultaneously while pressing the reset pin found at the back of the Universal.
3) You will notice that the screen is still blank with the "v 1.0" on the screen. DO NOT WORRY.
4) Connect back your Universal via cable.
5) You will hear the connection sound from your computer.
6) Run the install application again.
7) Make sure you DO NOT DISCONNECT the cable this time.
8) RELAX!!!!!! and wait for the update.
I had same problem but this is what I did
1) Hard Reset
This screen pops up
Press0 to restore
Factory default
Press X to exit
2) I pressed X
3) Plugged in USB cable
4) Voila, windows recognises new device, when driver is installed pressed X
ran software utility (rom upgrade) again
All is working, Panic over PHEW!
Phheewwww ... thanks so much you guys, really appreciate all the detailed instructions ... it's upgrading as i post this ... for a moment there, i thought i would have to ship this back to o2 ... He hee ... you guys are the greatest !
So guys now that you all have upgraded your universals, is it worth the update ?
I've been running my current one in Basic Mode since getting it and have not experienced any problems yet.
i works better,it responds quicker and no crashes yet. the themes fit according to the screen. try it.

Which themes?
screen switching is like lightning, definately an improvement.
Overall Id say it seems quicker loading menus
(eg start>programs, Start>settings etc)
I think it was worth it although i shat myself when the upgrade went wrong.
Tut Tut o2, wtf was that all about?
hi guys, i have follow the instruction, and it is not working for me.. any others ideas
thanks
My Method:
1) Connect your Universal from the cable. (Whole step not need disconnect the cable)
2) Perform a hard reset by pressing the 2 (-) buttons simultaneously while pressing the reset pin found at the back of the Universal.

Press0 to restore
Factory default
Press X to exit
4) I pressed 0
5) You will notice that the screen is still blank with the "v 1.0" on the screen. DO NOT WORRY. Wait about 15 seconds!
6) You will hear the connection sound from your computer. (If it appare a wrong connect device message on computer, then retry from step 2 to step 4. This step my need to try many times until hear the connection sound from your computer) [Some times I had repeated three steps twenty times then can success!]
6) Run the install application again.
7) Finish & Reset.
i have done, the step. Due to frustration i have remove the active sync and install a new one. might be this step will no longer use.

Download the uni dopod rom upgrade from the xda server. Extract the executable file. Then flash ONLY the radio rom using the MAUpgradeUt. Do not use the other rom files (e.g. extended and MS rom, so delete these two before running the MAUpgradeUT.) good luck.

Thank u Simba
I shall try your suggestions and wish me luck for xmas
many thanks n very much appreciated..
thank u simba
New year is on d way....
BINGO..... yes I made it...
as simba suggested I download the UNI DOPOD rom113.36..extract the executable files ie.
!. Enter BL
2.GetDeviceData
3.RUU.dll
4.UI.dll
5.RUU.Conf
6.MaUpgradeUt noID
into a new folder ..add in the radio file from either rom113.188 or 113.36
and then execute/run MaUpgradeUt noID file......IT WORKS
It therefore may means that DOPOD900 may require the DOPOD EXECUTABLE FILES (so as not to have the same problems as I had over xmas) listed above to upgrade either the CE rom, radio rom or extended rom..
It definitely had been a very interesting xmas...the freeze is finally over n a Better time awaiting, better days ahead n a better YEAR is around d corner...Happy New Year to everyone
sorry for the caps.
btw hello everyone
well lets just get to my problem.
i installed the touch it program rom thingy or whatever to my phone
and now im trying to restore it back to its original settings...
the only reason im doing that is because i cant connect the phone to the usb anymore. it WONT connect.
so im trying to restore it.
please help!
thanks!
or can someone just tell me how to reconnect it to my computer please?
i've tried different ports on the computer
and restarted it
but nothing, so please help me restore to factory settings or be able to use windows mobile device center
thanks!
maybe activesync didn't install properly when you flashed it..
or.. you should try the activesync uninstall/reinstall trick..
or a corrupt system file and you just have to hard reset the phone..
hmm..... good question
hard reset is when you press the clear storage right? or when u take out the battery while its still running??
well even if those arent hard resets i've tried them and none work
=[
A hard reset is preformed as follows:
-Hold down the two softkeys on the front of the device (the ones above the Windows logo and the OK button)
-Press the reset button using the stylus, which you can find below the volume adjuster on the left hand side of the device
-Release the stylus, but keep the softkeys held down
-You will see a warning screen
-Press the green send key on the left - the one with the phone icon on it to confirm the reset.
After that it will take a little while longer to start up the phone.
Btw if you by "original settings" mean restoring your official ROM a hard reset won´t do. You will need to flash the official ROM to go back if I´m not mistaken.
thanks for the info!
hey again
well im trying to restore the original rom but everytime i do it wont go past 1%
then touchit starts up.

Are you just trying to go back to the stock ROM becasue of the AS problem? Did you try a reinstall? After you uninstall before reinstalling AS go into your program files on the PC and delete the activesync folder.
If you HARDSPL'ed you need a STOCK ROM without the nbh. file. Thats why its kicking back to TOUCH.
Good Luck
my phone is tuck at the startup screen and i dont know how to fix it!!! is there way to fix this issue cuz its the 1st time its happened
Sounds like you need to Hard Reset... This will, unfortunately, put it back to factory standard - all contacts/sms/apps deleted.
Hold down left & right softkey thenuse the sylus to reset. It will ask if you want to reset, push r then spacebar. It should now go back to the alignment screen and go through the setup process again.
Best idea is to get a backup program like SPB Backup 2 or something in case this happens again. Also, if you haven't already, install Hard SPL ver 7 available for download here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Cheers...

Hi!
I`m totally new to this so i would like to ask for a help! I have Qtek s110, and i was reading about updating the ROM and that kind of things, trying to get know better the device.
On http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BackupExistingRom
i have read that if you press Camera + Power and Soft Reset, you will enter into the bootloader mode. I wanted to see that mode, and pressed that. I got some message - word and some number and nothing happend (not error message but i cannot remember exactly the word and the nubmer..like some version number).
Then i have restarted the device so i could use it again and when the device finished the boot, i had to calibrate the screen, and things like that, like on the first boot of device (the programs where installing). After that i lost all of my personal informations, contacts, programs!!! PLEASE HELP if there is any help!
Of course, i didnt make any ROM backups! Is there any way to get my data back!? On my storage card i saw some folders that i didnt make myself. Some WMDRM with some .hds file and some 08071200001 empty folder!
Please help!
P.S. Why the hack that guy didnt said that button sequence is hard reset of the device!?? DAMN!
Sorry, but i`m really pissed! I will kill somebody now!

Hi there
There are no way to restore the data from ram since you hard reset your device. The big lost is contact book and sms message. You can try to copy the contact from sim to phone if it is exist in Sim card.
Good luck
try removing the battery n keep it like that for about 10 hrs.. n then put it back on n start the ppc..see if it helps
..n if it doesn't do not worry, ur fone aint dead yet....u'd have to go thru the hard way then
