T-Mobile MDA Compact Hard Resets itself - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi there,
I have a problem with my MDA Compact. It seems to like hard resetting itself.
For example, it'll be in my pocket and I'll take it out and press the standby button to see if I have any messages. Nothing happens at all. Press it again, and again, and again, nothing. Take the back off and the battery out, back in and turn it on... nothing. However, if I then plug it in to USB or put it on charge and then press the power button, it will come to life and then I'll be greeted with the lovely Welcome to Windows Mobile 2003, tap here to set up your device.
And thus, I have lost all my contacts and messages. Help

Actually, how do you hard reset the pda?
It hasn't reloaded all of my t-mobile software and settings

on/off button doesn't react...

Just bought mij S100 and already a problem. My phone automatically shuts down the display, this is nothing strange. But when I want to turn it back on again using the on/off button, sometimes it does not react (sometimes it does). When this happens, i also cannot receive any calls. I tried to call myself with another phone and it did not ring. It looks like a crash to me. When I do a soft reset it works again.
I have the newest Qtek rom (1.12.00 WWE / 1.12.550 WWE) installed. Originally the phone came with T-mobile software.
I hope someone can help me with this problem.
If there is a problem with the power button, then you can go into Settings - Button Lock - do not lock buttons. This way you can turn on your device using any of the green or red buttons.
hi robbertje,
sometimes i have the same problem on my MDA compact (=imate S100).
on/off button does not respond - display dark.
soft reset resets the MDAc and everything is ok.
then a few days no problems. if this problem occours then more times.
I found out that if my MDAc is in this state and if I pull the SD Card out of the device, the screen is on but frozen. The time which is shown an the screen is not correct. Seems that it shows the time when the device went to the freeze status.
Also battery is very low after such problems.
I used to have it when I first upgraded to big storage. A hard reset seemed to fix the problem. What I found was that the screen would react, but it could be up to a minute after I hit the power button. Same thing when the screen was on, I'd hit Start and wait. After a while the start menu would pop up. This was before I even managed to install any other software so it's a windows bug that's fairly random. I haven't had it happen for a few months now, though.
I think PPCProfiles made the problem. I reinstalled PPCProfiles and it seems that the problem is solved but I will see ..................
Hey, I've already ur problem. It's an hardware problem!
The mess is that, when the PDA is cold (strange, huh?) it won't reactivate, causing to do a soft reset. Mystically, the LEDs are still functioning (I mean, if it's green, it will continue to blink BUT doesn't change for any reason)
The only way to fix it is to send it to the repairing center. Sorry for who is out of warranty.
Cheers,
MocciJ
new ROM?
In this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=25761 it is said a new ROM wil fix the problem ...
Is this possible?
check http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27956&highlight= too - may not be relevant, but it shows that power button wierdness can actually be the result of a dodgy battery.
remove your battery, and wait 1 day,my problem solved this method...

MDA Compact II won't hard reset, OS not functioning...

OK, so I have a Compact II with UK TMob ROM 1.12 (I think), I have not really done anything to it except install a few 3rd party programs from Handango.
I installed MY|Messages and the program did not show up in the programs menu, so I did a soft reset. When it booted up I got a strange screen that read something like:
Windows Sync:
18:07
And part of the OS loaded behind this. Pressing buttons or tapping the screen does nothing. I did another reset, it booted and then only half the OS loads, none of the today screen custom programs loaded. Still can't use any of the keys and the touch sceen is non responsive.
I tried a hard reset (power + reset button), and the phone just boots as normal, it does not go back to factory settings.
Any ideas about what I can do with my new brick? Soap dish?

If activesync works, try uninstalling the program that way. Also, will the phone go into bootloader mode?
Activesync can't connect, I can get it into bootloader mode but I don't really understand what to do from there, I am currently search/reading about this now. Perhaps you could explain how I should proceed from here? I should point out that when I am in bootloader mode my PC gives me the "ding dong" USB connection sound but I can't see where the device shows up.

Hard Reset on the MDA Compact II (and I assume on all WM5 devices) is:
Hold down the camera and voice notes buttons (on the MDA Compact II it's the two buttons on the left of the phone) and then use the stylus to reset whilst holding the two buttons down. Release the reset, with the buttons held down for a count of four/five and the screen will display something about pressing "Send" to format the phone.
Press the Send button (the green phone) and all will be well ;-)
The hard reset is a bit of a bugger but once you've managed it, it's dead easy.

Thank you so much, it worked!! Even in the instruction manual supplied by TMo it said to do it the way of the old MDA Compact (power+reset). I don't know how or where you learnt about this new reset but I am glad you came along and shared your knowledge. Thank you, thank you.

I had a Wizard for a couple of days and the manual of that one said to hold the camera and voice notes buttons so I thought it might work with the MDAcII.
Glad it worked out for you.

O2 Xda mini couldn't startup normally.

My O2 xda mine refuse to start-up. I'm traveling this week without mobile phone, so any helps will be highly appreciated.
Problem description:
- Using the camera/video mode and acidently forgot to turn off mobile for a while.
- It was hange with screen changed to very strange color like negative film colors
- Press reset in the bottom of the phone, try to restart but then couldn't start-up succesfully. keep hang at the start-up screen only.
- Have to take-out the battery cover to turn it off, and turn-on by pressing the power button.
- Problem was even worst when it couldn't even show up the start-up screen anymore. If i press power button the blue light will blink once and then nothing happend.
P/S: not sure about the ROM version, since i couln't turn-on my phone at the moment. Cldn't find this info from O2.com website either.
Most probably you're battery is bad. Have your tried a hard reset?
How to do a hard-reset?
I've tried the reset button in the bottom. Is it the correct way?
If this is xda battery issue then could be fairly easy to check-out by a brand new battery.
kalau nak hard reset, press power button + tekan lubang reset.
try hard restart the cellphone, maybe it will solve the problem, if not, contact the local service for repair
What is address of local service in Kuala Lumpur?
What is address of local service in Kuala Lumpur?
Imbi or Low Yat Plaza?
Hard reset by press power + reset buton simunteneously?
I'm not Malaysian so I don't realy understand writing in Malay
To do a hard reset you need to press and keep pressed the camera and power switch while pushing the reset button.
Plug it into the wall charger rather than the PC USB.
Hard reset & recharging the battery solved problem
I've tried the hard reset and the re-charging the battery by using USB connetor.
It took about more than 15' minutes to re-charge and once the power is sufficient the installation process starting.
My cell phone is working properly now. All Microsoft Outlook related data was restored succesfully
Thanks a lot

T-Mobile MDA Is Frozen: HELP!!!!

My MDA now all of a sudden keeps locking up on boot-up. It gets to the Today screen and then locks up. I can't do a darn thing. I can hit the power button and it turns the backlight on and off. But I can't turn the phone off or on once it's locked up. All I can do is take the battery out to turn the phone off. But when I go to turn it back on, it just locks up. I can't get it to do a damn thing. Now its says Rebooting in Safe Mode.....and is locked up. I have no clue what to do. I'm on Cust ROM 2.21.
Any ideas?
The same thing just happened to my SIM unlocked 8125 today! I can't even hard reset it. I am on 2.25. I can soft reset it, but a hard rest won't work... I am lost, it worked flawlessly for 5 days, I hung up with a telephone call today and boom, junk... Any ideas how to help me get this thing hard reset? If i press com button and voice button and hit reset, it is just as though I did a soft rest.
So i got it unfrozen by reflashing with the Cingular 225 ROM. Then I had to reload all my crap, well, just a couple of apps... I turned off the phone last night and now when I turn it on this morning, same friggin junk! This is going to suck if I have to keep reloading... The only installed apps were:
spb pocketplus 3.0
AEBPlus and devicelock to map comm button
Any ideas??
Try restarting (soft) with the SD removed. Double check that you have operability after bootup, then reinsert card and verify it is accessing it properly (load a file explorer). Then, do another restart with the card in (by holding down the power button, not the softrestart button) to verify all is good.
It just happened to me about half an hour ago but figured out how to get it running again. Decided to search for "safe mode" to see if there's another way around it, and came up with this post
Hey, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I didn't have a sd card in the phone, I am still waiting for it to be delivered. I have found that by not turning the unit off (holding power button down) it has not happened again. I have also opted not to install any applications until I get my card.
I will play more some other day. I will come back and post a result.

Locked up, please help

Hi,
I have a tmobile MDA (wizard). I attempted to install some software on it, but disconnected and rebooted before it was complete (it appeared to be just spinning).
Now after a soft reset, screen shows only 'Windows Mobile' after booting, and none of the buttons work and I can't advance from this screen.
Is there a way to hard reset that doesn't involve using the OS (ie, I can't click on anything because it's not getting to that point).
Also in this state activesync isn't detecting device.
Thanks in advance! - Chris
Hold down (and keep holding) the camera button while depressing the reset button. Hopefully it boots into a tri-color screen. If so, plug it into the USB port and, at the bottom of the screen, it should display "USB". If that happens, flash it with a *known good rom*, such as a stock T-Mobile rom. Don't try to be clever, the object is to get the phone working. Once the flash has started, *get up and walk away* for 15 or 20 minutes. Don't check in on it, leave it alone, It takes some time. When you hear it's little chime, it's done, rebooted and ready. If any of the above doesn't happen or the flash outright fails, then you may have trashed it permanently. It doesn't sound like it's beyond hope yet, however.
i have the wizard and im having the same problem after installing a ROM from this website...it just goes to the windows mobile screen with the numbers then shuts off...id really like to save my phone is there anything else i can try because that hard reset thing isnt working

Well same thing happened to me a few days back.. I had to Cold Reset [which restored it to factory defaults], but hey I got it working again..
Press Communication Button [Top Left] and Record Button [Top Right] at the same time and use the stylus to soft reset..
You will get a black screen, asking you to press "Send" to reset to "Factory defaults"
Press "Send".
Hopefully you should get your MDA working again ...
I read the "Above" in the HTC Wizard Service Manual [PDF] on the *last page* under the "Cold-reset" Section..
