Hi,
Siemens SX56 Unlock
I would like to know if someone unlocked its phone by himself.
All we read is people from everywhere except with AT&T.
My ROM version: 3.14.03 ENG date: 09/27/02
Radio version 6.12 protocol 324e4
Frequency 900/1900 American model PW10B
Does the Rom Update 3.17 from xda-developers works with Rogers AT&T?
Can we expect our phone to live after that update?
Is the new ROM functionnalities user friendly? Would you rather keep the old ROM version both UNLOCKED?
If you got your SX56 unlocked, can you tell me what you did?
I'd like to have your comments on what you did before I do it.
After spending that kind of money, I wouldn't like to kill my phone.
So let me know how you did it and what did you need to update it.
I expect to get details from you.
Thanking you in advance!!!
The ROM has nothing to do with receiving the signal. It's the RSU part (Radio part of the device). ROM 3.17 should be fine with unlocking, but you may try this tool firls to keep your current ROM www.xda-developers.com\XDAunlock\
To determine the best RSU to use with your new network then you have to get some info about your device and the frequency of the network (900/1800 or 900/1900).
But ... get your XDA unlocked first then we'll see if it receives signal or not.
Good luck
I unlocked my Siemens SX56 from AT&T with the XDA Manipulator tool on this site. To use it, you need a serial cable for your SX56. I just made one. In reality, it would have been much easier to simply upgrade with the special edition ROM on this wedsite and use the unlock tool. The ROM upgrade should not effect the phone at all since it is the windows operating system and not the radio software (radio stack) which is a seperate upgradeable piece of software.
To be safe, just download your current ROM onto an SD card and then use a seperate SD card to upload the upgrade ROM. If you don't like the upgrade ROM, you can always restore the original ROM and the good news is that once your phone is unlocked, it's unlocked no matter what ROM you use.
Good luck, and upgrading ROM's using the SD method is really the safest way IMHO. You can find plenty of information describing the process on this site.

Ok, I have an At&t sx56 that I got when it was first released. I never used it, because the at&t GSM service SUCKS... I recently switched to
T-Mobile, I want to unlock the sx56 for use on T-Mobile.. But I cant find anything that applies to my rom version.
Rom Version: A.21.02 ENG
Rom Date: 10/17/03
Radio Vers: A.20.10
Protocol Vers: 324e4
I recently (before switching to t-mobile) tried to do the upgrade to PPC 2003 and my computer crashed halfway through, and fried the device. So I had to send it to siemens and get it completely reflashed, so naturally im nervous about doing anything with the rom. Is there a SAFE way to do it, incase my stupid windows box decideds to take a crap halfway through again? Could I possibly take the at&t rom off, and put t-mobile on? Or is there a better version all together? Pocket PC's arent something im very good with
If you're new to the whole ROM flashing thing, I'd go with the XDA-Developers Special Edition ROM located here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/SpecialEditionROM It's got a whole lot of goodies included with it, including XDA unlock (removed SIM lock). Or if you want to you build your own ROM at someone's ROMkitchen, like http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/ Enjoy.
I've been reading through many posts and have become more and more confused. Basically, I'm looking for the simplest way to unlock the subsidy code on my SX56. I don't know the best method because my ROM and Radio versions don't seem to match anything posted here.
My info is as follows:
Model: PW10B1
ROM Version: A.30.09 ENG
ROM Date: 01/01/04
Radio Version: A.33.02
Protocol Version: 1.3.3
Microsoft Pocket PC Version 4.20.0 (build 13349), which I assume is Windows Mobile 2003.
I really dont' want to change over my entire ROM because this one is working very well (even the radio portion). Siemens refers me to Cingular (formerly AT&T), and AT&T won't give me the code.
Thanks for any help!

Why care if your ROM is working if there is a BETTER one?
I had your problem the week before last: There should be a way of telling someone what your IMEI number is and have them give you an unlock code but there isn't.
Just flash your ROM with the better one available here: Don't bother with the simple unlock utility available here because it probably wont run on your unit (it didn't on mine)
What do you care if your ROM is working properly if these people have designed a better one? Surely your only care should be how much you should donate to to them for developing it and then get it and unlock your unit?
And there will be the, - incalculable, - added benefit of doing one in the eye to Cingular who refused to assist you? (and, I am reliably informed, wouldnt assist you, even so far as to get THEIR phone working abroad, even if you WERE a customer of theirs)
If you want to stay at your current ROM Version, you coud make a backup from your ROM, flash the XDA-Developers ROM 1.2 to unlock your device and reflash you Backuped ROM.
I think your Radio Stack should work, so it isnĀ“t necessary to change it.

THANK YOU, GUYS!!
I did a complete data backup and managed to save my existing ROM data to an SD card. I then performed the Special Edition ROM upgrade and it worked BEAUTIFULLY! And it successfully unlocked the unit This is a big deal to me because I was very afraid because of a disaster I had a little over a year ago.
You see, when I first got this Wallaby, it was equipped with PPC2002. After a couple of months, AT&T offered the WM2003 upgrade through Siemens. I made the mistake if upgrading, and found that the radio reception was deplorable. When I called to complain, I was told AT&T no longer supported these units. Siemens was of no help, either. (It was no big surprise that AT&T/Siemens yanked the upgrade so soon from their web sites!!)
That's when I found this site. I decided to try to replace my radio stack to its original version. I was one of those people who got the 1% problem and my Wallaby had become a shiny, silver "brick". I was going to dump it, but decided to try and see if I could get it fixed (or reflashed) through AT&T or Siemens. AT&T wouldn't do anything. They basically told me, "Sorry, your 90 days is over and we no longer support the SX-56 units." I then called Siemens and to my ASTONISHMENT, Siemens agreed to fix the unit because it was just under a year since I had purchased it! When I sent them my "brick", they sent me back a newly refurbished unit... complete with WM2003 *and* a good radio stack! So, you can see why I was afraid to try and unlock this thing!
Anyway, after performing the Special Edition ROM upgrade, I tested a different provider's SIM card (TMobile). It worked fine I then flashed the unit back to my previous ROM (WM2003) without incident and successfully restored the data. The unit is still unlocked and working quite well!
Thanks again! This is an awesome site for XDA enthusiasts!
Hi,
I have a new MDA from T-Mobile which I updated to the 2.26 official t-mobile upgrade. I would to back up the device to a mini-sd card from the bootloader; however, am not able to cid-unlock the device (aWizard fails during the write step), and the bootloader is giving me a security level violation error.
Is there a (safe) way to CID-Unlock the device? If not, how else can I do a full backup and guaranteed restore from a mini SD card? I apologize if this has been answered before... I tried to read through the forum however, could not find anything definitive.
Thanks
cid unlocking t-mobile mda
Hi,
I'm from the Netherlands and have exact the same problem.
Can't cid unlock my t-mobile mda.
So if there is an solution i'm interested.
This is the only solution yet: http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m3000unlock.php

Lokiwiz Issues:
Winnie:
Thanks for your response. I tried Lokiwiz. With Lokiwiz 0.3a (LokiwizMsl.bat) and that provided the SIM unlock code. However, I could not figure out a way to CID unlock with the Lokiwiz 0.3a tool. Lokiwiz 0.2b fails to CID unlock the phone. Again, I apologize if I am missing the obvious, however, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks
You're not doing anything wrong. The latest lokiwiz does not include the CID unlock feature, and the last version that does will not unlock 2.25 and above. It may not work on earlier ones either, but I know I have 2.25 and it's not working.
Re: Lokiwiz Issues:
Opppsss....I guess the poster on the link I gave you meant to be SIM Unlock not CID Unlock. I appologize. I just re-read the link and realized that. I'm sorry.
I think the only solution is to CID unlock before you upgrade to ROM 2.26. I read from some other threads as well that this upgrade does not require you to redo the CID unlock. Could anyone confirm me on this?
Thanks

I can confirm that the CID unlock is (so far...) completely permanent once done... I think, however, that you have to unlock with a 1.xx rom, not ANY 2.xx rom. In other words, I do not think that it is just 2.25 and up or just 2.26 that you can't unlock I think it is any rom that starts with a 2. If someone could confirm, it would be appreciated... I do believe that there is some sort of temporary workaround to flash a new rom without CID unlock, but I am not sure how (I am unlocked), or even where I saw that...
Hi,
Thanks for your responses: Is there a way to downgrade to an official 1.08 ROM, and then CID unlock the device, and then bump back up to a 2.26 ROM?
Thanks
i was thinkin of doin that. when i bought my mda it came with the 1.8 rom, and i upgraded it to 2.26. now i be wantin to cid unlock it.
so i was thinkin of tryin to install the 1.8 rom and cid unlock it. but the question is will the 1.8 rom install properly after 2.26 is installed
Before you attempt to downgrade from a 2.x to 1.x Rom you need to be aware of a few things.
1. If you have a G4 flash chip YOU CANNOT DOWNGRADE TO A 1.x ROM. (Search for G4, to determine this)
2. You will need to use the modified RUU package from a custom Rom which is hacked to always think your phone as Rom version 1.2 installed (again a little searching will explain better)
3. If you try this, your IPL & SPL (bootloaders) will get out of sync (one will remain 2.x). This is a dangerous situation for your phone and you just might brick it!
4. If you read up on how to "cook your own Rom" (yep search for it) you can create Roms without bootloaders which don't need your phone to be CID unlocked.

Ah ha, so there is a risk of say putting in Tmobile's oem 2.26 rom (or future oem roms) to re SIM and CID lock then.
I myself have an 8125 with ipl/1.08 : 1.08, gsm : 01.16.11, os : 1.8.11.1 and was thinking of upgrading to Tmo's 2.26.

ah well, that sounds like a massive pain in the ass... i dont have the patience for that anyways i already bought a card specifically to back up the rom in any case, and i dont doubt that the wizard community will come up with something. in the meantime, ive got no major hangups with 2.26, besides the occasional freeze

I have called t-mobile USA and they will unlock my phone, my guess is that it is just the sim but I requested both phone and sim. Any one up on this? Also I have read everything about the unlocking but I have one thing Im not clear on, if its a G4 or G3 it depends on the zero count on the firmware ect. When turning on the Tmob MDZA with 2.26 I just installed from Tmobile last week,
I read some discousion that tmobile was hard to get the info to see if you have a G3 or G4 it didn'tll the zeros there was talk of going in to Bootstrap mode but no talk about how to get out of bootstrap of your not going through with a flash.
I just need to get this out of the way befor I see what my options are for flashing.
It reads
IPL 2.26
SPL 2.26
GSM 2.25.11
OS 2.26.10.2
In the Settings/device info it says
OM Version 2.26.10.2 WWE
ROM Date 6/7/06
Radio Version02.25.11
Protocall Version 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version 2.26.10.105
Many thanks
Ken
You have a G3. If you had a G4 your IPL/SPL would be 2.26.0001 +/- one of those 0's in the .0001 can't remember for sure at the moment but a G3 wont have any of them. I'm not sure where you read that it is difficult to see for sure, it shows your IPL/SPL on the boot screen right after you reboot your phone. You don't need to go into the bootloader for that. As for your other question, T-mobile will sim unloack your phone, but they won't CID unlock it for you. If you want to do that, you should either do it yourself after reading through the CID unlock thread about 3 or 4 times to make sure you fully understand what you're doing or use IMEI-check.

Thanks, just what I wanted to here, yes I have read & read, I print this info out and read it again, I will take it one step at a time.
Ken
No problem. It's always a good idea to print that stuff out so you can have it sitting right there in front of you while you do it.
Good Luck.
