When I boot my device I usually have 18.something mb spare ram, with pocket plus and spb diary running, but nothing else. For some reason when I look at my phone later, having done nothing with it, I have less spare ram, and it keeps reducing down to 3 or 4 mb.. is this a known problem? and is there a solution?
Don't bother to give important info such as which (of the thousands) of Rom versions you are running or if you have verified that Activesync (notorious memory consumer) didn't get started somewhere and the list goes on..

I think someone needs to tear themselves away from the computer, and get some fresh air
Hi fuel - yes been reported a memory leak with those spb products, try uninstalling them and introduce them one at a time to see which the culprit is. Some users have switched to sbsh products and found the memory problems better.
If you have not switched to an up to date rom - that will help.
To stop activesync keep running in the background and using up resources see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52431
btw I have 25mb after soft reset and I have calendar +. phone profiles. sbsh pocket weather, dktoday installed - so it is possible to get more free ram. (if you use cache tweaks try decreasing the size of them as well)
fuel925 what ROM are you using? My original 1.8.11 ROM always (Still does) have a memory leak somewhere. It will boot at 23 MB and even with nothing running, a few days later it will be at 18 MB...still nothing running.
Summiter's AKU2.3 ROM however, doesn't have this memory leak problem. When I was running it, I never had a memory leak problem; always stayed at 22 MB. I reverted back to 1.8.11 though, like that ROM more for various reasons I'm not going to bother stating because it's an entirely different subject than your post lol
Thanks for the replies! I updated to the latest t-mobile uk rom a couple of days ago, the problem was occuring before, and is still happening :? Ive only just purchased pocket+ and diary, so im reluctant to change to other software. Maybe the next rom update or software update from spb would fix the problem?

Possible fuel - maybe good idea to browse spb forum - they may have tips and hints or some new betas to try. Do the acyivesync tweak as well certainly helped me.

I know it's been mentioned before regarding an incompatibility between SPB Mobile 1.0 and the Ameo, but I thought that this might have been rectified by 1.5.. unfortunately not...
Unless I'm missing a trick that someone else has worked out...??
The application works okay for a while but if I fiddle with the NOW screen too much I end up muting the phone's speaker, regardless on the volume setting... has anyone worked out a way around this?
Also, it has the same glitch that Pocket Plus has where occasionally, but more often than not, if loaded and you soft-reset the device, the device will go into a crazed loop, showing the boot screens, then flashing the today screen (blank) then repeating the boot screens and so on....

That's the exact reason I uninstalled it from 3 devices we have in the family. Not worth purchasing until issues fully resolved.
i have it in spb pocket plus
no probleme over all
i think that there's some problem (i see it when using profiles)
but i don't know if it's spb phone suite that makes it
my X7500 is stable, but i have tu reset it some time ( it freezes using it in differrent cases), but i don't know if it is the x7500 rom or any of my installed software
over all it's like all pocket pc i had , it run very very good at star with no program instaled, then the program you instal, the less stable and slower it become
but what to do ? instal or not instal programs ?

Whether you install them or not depends on how valuable the software is to you. To me I would like to have it on there, but I work shifts and sometimes need to get up early hours, without sound on my device I wouldn't hear the alarms.... so can't risk it :-(
"Get an alarm clock"... why should I? It's a feature on the phone, don't buy an all singing all dancing phone then tell it to stop singing :-D
Ive been late for work once because my phone crashed.
I avoid anything that could cause problems on it now!
I agree, you get something that can do everything so you can use it for everything! I like being able to set different alarms on different days, with different sounds etc. Not many alarm clocks are that configurable.
"I agree, you get something that can do everything so you can use it for everything!
"
exactly !!
and X7500 is clearly not very stable (but is it rom or instaled programmes that makes it unstable?)
i had one time the same probleme, with no reason (the x7500 was sleeping in the hall) it freeze/crash at 23h59 !!
???
for chance i had no important appointment this morning !!
so from this day i close all programs , and just let spb alarm
no probleme then
but it's crazy we've got the best device that exists and we can not trust it !!!
talking about spb phone suite, for myself i find it very usefull
(excuse my bad english)

Unfortuantely it's not just SPB Plus, it's also Mobile and a few others in their suite :-(
I have lots of programs installed, but NO today plugins etc. No spb apps, no launchers or Wizbars etc.
Its totally stable like this. It DOES NOT crash.
When I start adding today apps and stuff it starts to crash, even when I started the HTCHomePlug app, the phone kept crashing. Turning that off fixed it.
hard reset, dont install anything, its totally stable.

Yeah, that's true, but I got the item to use it... to me that's like buying a computer, and not installing any applications on it. If I wanted a phone that just called and text I'd get a Nokia. i agree with you at 200%
you just said everything that is needing to say about pocket pc
great, thank
I didnt say dont install apps! I install apps on my PPC and PC, they both work.
What I dont do is install hacks that change major operating system features. Like third party skin/launchers ala Wisbar Advance etc.
Im not knocking WA or its ilk, I just think when you start hacking into the os in that way you are bound to sacrifice stability. There is no was the coders can know everything they need to about Windows, MS just wont let them.
If its important to have your phone working 100%, be carefull what you install, same as with a PC. If its THAT important, then by all means get a nokia and a separate PPC.
If your happy with the fact it will crash randomly, then thats fine too.
I mainly brought this up to point out to all the people knocking WM5 and MS for the Windows Mobile OS, its not their fault! its the third party apps making it unstable. The rom, as shipped is solid.

Sorry, but I disagree with this point.
I have had several models of most of T-Mobiles MDA range and two of the Ameo. I've had to return Compact III handsets, which just have factory settings due to ROM stability issues, mainly a crash loop.
You rarely get a ROM that is 100% stable, especially from a UK network provider, due to the provider hitting the point that you quiet rightly stressed, by them adding their third party settings, applications and tweaks.
Most providers want to brand the phone with their identity, which causes instabilities, but these edits are on the shipped ROM release, not something which the typical end user can modify. Bringing me back to my point, the ROM as shipped, is not always great in itself either.

Ha ha, this goes to show how wierd things could become.
I do not have this problem with SPB plus. It works wonderfully. It has not even once reset in a loop. Stange?? However, when I tried SPB mobile, it did caused very strange behaviour, and I uninstalled it immediately.
I use SPB plus with magic button and they complement each other very nicely. SPB plus lets me lauch all applications from today screen. Once launched, magic button let it stay on the task bar, and I simply click on the task bar to switch between application. It is very stable. I have about 30 different applications installed in my device. All very stable. No issue with SPB pocket plus and can't live without it.
I have the Black 2.0 an Radio 1.40 and Oli 1.40, and I installed "MenMaid" and the SPV M3100 boots very slowly 8-10 minutes, and then it works the same, 2 days ago I had the same problem with MENMAID, and uninstalled and made several soft reset and extract the battery at the end it works well like allways, but now I made the same but it very slowly.
Please Could you tell me any advise?
Thanks.
what does this program do? have you tried it on any other ROMS?
I presume you mean Memmaid? I don't use it but it cleans out memory, notifications etc etc. I'm just wondering if it has a setting to auto clear memory or do some sort of clean up on bootup. If it does, perhaps you need to uncheck that setting?? (Only guessing!)

Sorry the program name is Memmaid, like say Mikechannon. Is allow to clear the memory, registry etc. is like Sktools but I thing less powerful.
I didn´t try with other roms, because I have few time, and I haven´t got any time to recharge and configure all software, althougt at the end I will have to do.

Yes, you at right, is Memmaid. Is posible that has this funcion (cleun up on bootup), but I uninstalled, This haven´t got to happen. No?
-What can I do?
-Can I boot in Secure boot, will do anything? I try it, but say that push the action key (Which is the action key?).
-What will be the best way to change the Rom?
Very tranks for your attention.
Strange I'ved used Memmaid with most WM6 roms without problems.
You've uninstalled and the issue persists? And you are sure it's Memmaid and not anything else? What version of Memmaid are you using?
I guess you could reinstall the newest version (or another suitable program) and check the bootup apps/services and remove some them to see if that helps. While running what services/prog are running??
If not then a HR and see if the issue is really related to Memmaid.

Thanks BorisTheSpider, the version is 1.61., And now it is lower, the last action was to made a Backup with SKTools, but when boot, at the end appear the main windows, but no respons (or very slow).
Now I disconnect the battery, and I am going to remove apps/services
in bootup, but I don´t know each programs made. If I can I will show the apps/services in bootup for help somebody.
Thanks.

Thanks for your answering BorisTheSpider. At the end, I made a HR, but I belive to know which is the problem.
I can see that I have 1500 Mbytes used in my SD_Card, but really only had 1100 Mbytes in files. I formatted the SD_Card, but the S.O. say that is used 975 Mbytes and others 900 Mbytes free, I couldn´t format the SD, At the end I could formats the SD with one utility "Format Memorys".
I thought that my real problems could be the SD. I read in this forum that is very common this problem, if used the on/off button to switch off the device and if in bootup is the sddaemon.lnk.
Thanks for your interesting.
I am going to send you a PM.
slow
hey same problem here im using prophet WM5 but the boot time is too long. guess it's because of the slow processor. but it's obviously slower than i first use it. now that i've installed so many things...
but 1 thing is whenever i open the windows folder, it takes like 10 mins to open the folder. is there any rubbish inside any1 removed safely and helps?
any1 has this file called 'cemail' on mydevice ? it's 1.87mb and i dont know what is it's function and it's always there.... too space consuming
Yes, opening the Windows folder is slow - this is due to all the files which are to be displayed.
Hey. I'm having problems with the amount of available memory on my Wing. After a soft reset, I only have 27% of my memory left.. it makes it exteremely hard to multitask even a couple programs; my old mda would start off with around 52% of is memory free after a soft reset. I'm using the ROM that came with the phone; my phone was an insurance replacement and arrive a few days ago, so I think that I probably have the latest official ROM. Are there any custom ROMs out yet, for the wing, that help the memory situation, like a more stripped down version.. or any reg tweaks?
Thanks,

ALL the custom roms for wizard are coked with 4MB pagepool. The original ROM has 12 MB - that´s the roblem. You won´t get more memory on wing/herald without custom ROMs.
20MB after hardreset is the most wecan get at the moment.
Sorry.
just wondering..

If you want a good amount of free memory you will most likely need to flash the ROM on your wing to a custom one found on this website, such as ttran's "Open Touch" (scroll down to the 3rd post to download. Several versions to choose from.) You can use the guide provided by ivanmmj, here, to help you with the process. Here (post #60) is a link to a post regarding the memory/RAM free and used for open touch. There are many other great ROMS out too, i just happen to be using Open Touch 5.0 so its easier for me to explain it. Make sure to read thoroughly to understand all the risks and benefits involved also.
I have 15-22mb free with an oem rom.
Following the directions of previous posters I changed the pagepool size to 6mb. Many posters of a few months ago were talking about how to do this. I believe there's even a cab that will do it for you.
Another way to get more memory is to buy SKTools
HTML:
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?m_products.html#tools
which has an "optimize" feature that will free up even more memory and tweak a number of go-faster settings.
Yeah, to echo what was said before......the mem wont get better till you get into custom roms.
You do NOT have to use a custom ROM
This might seem to be against the conventional wisdom, but I'd argue that you do NOT have to use a custom ROM to improve the free memory situation on the Wing. I am running the latest official T-Mobile ROM and have about 20 MB free after a soft reset. There are a number of things you can do to increase this number without having to install a custom ROM:
(1) Change the size of the pagepool. I believe the latest T-Mobile ROM has an 8 MB pagepool. I have decreased it to 6, but others use 4 without (as far as I know) too many problems. This gives you 2 or 4 MB extra RAM.
(2) There are many more processes running (and using RAM) on the phone than you see in the standard task manager. That only shows you programs that you have opened yourself. I found that a number of these extra processes are started by shortcuts in the \Windows\StartUp folder, and therefore run when the phone turns on. Some that I removed are btdwake.lnk, My5MsgCenter.lnk, poutlook.lnk, Voice Command.lnk, and WiFiInit.lnk. You can do a search to find out what these are. If you don't use MyFaves, Voice Command, WiFi, etc. you can save a lot of memory by deleting these shortcuts from the StartUp folder. (Note: You have to rename them first, then do a soft reset, and then you will be able to delete them.)
(3) There are processes that are "services" that are always running as well. For this, I'd suggest a program like MemMaid, which shows you the "Startup Services" and allows you to disable them. I personally disabled the SMSCSend (Target: My5Client.dll) and TMW (T-Mobile HotSpot Loging Utility). There may be more. Again, I'd suggest searching for what each one is before disabling it.
Of course some people prefer custom ROMS, and that's fine. Personally, I prefer the standard WM6 Home screen to the various "Touch" interfaces touted by the custom ROMS. Installing a new ROM seemed complicated to me and a little risky for someone who hasn't done it before. Also, I didn't want to have to start from scratch with a new ROM.
Anyway, I'm posting these suggestions as an alternative for those who for whatever reason don't want to install a new ROM. Good luck!
Hey guys, it's my first post!
I have a super slow hermes. I already cleared storage and and "wiped" the handset. I also check in from time to time and kill programs. All I have is the home screen and black theme loaded up. No ringtones or songs or pics. Oh I do have three pics off my PC. Any ideas?
Thanks yall!

Oh yes and WM6
Memory is at 21.24 MB 'in use' for storage and 34.18MB 'in use' for program.

personally id read through the wiki and upgrade to a cooked 6.1 rom,
these dont include the dodgy bloatware installed with the official roms - hence saving ram etc.
Thanks I'll take a look at that!
Step 1 - Did you know programs, even when closed, keep running in the background? Just go in Settings>System>Memory and select the Running Programs tab. There you can close programs.
Step 2 - Too much Today plugins will slow down the device.
Step 3 - You might have resident programs running. An example is dictionaries with checkup from any program.
Step 4 - You can check for running process. Some programs allows you to see them. Look for unusual stuff here.
I hope it helped.

You bought it not so long to accormerdate the "slow response" of WM ? May be you'll find other WM machine has similar responding speed ?
I suggest making a compare to others first.
I had a Moto Q when they first came out and it was pretty slow but much faster than this phone. And my BB 8700C was WAY faster then this 8525. There must be something wrong with it, because when I get a text message and I open the keyboard and hit reply...it takes about two words to catch up to me. Say I type "Hey there", I can finish typing and when I look up it would be on like 'H' or 'e'.
I have the same thing, the official 6.0 At&t OS. I started fresh (no today plugins or anything) and it is the same thing. I was going to post a new thread, but I saw yours... Please let me know what you find out, I will try to find something, this thing is the slowest I have seen. I had a Wizard before, half of the processor speed and it was 3 times faster... Something is wrong. Thank you all for helping! Peter.
I have this problem since upgrading to vp3g v3.62. I had no problems with speed while using vp3g v3.0. I'm sure it has to be something with the ROM/build.
Hi there,
My G3 seems to be running out of memory very, very quickly.
I have (S/I)PL 3.08 and it'sme's TNT Pro + HTC Home rom flashed.
Trouble is, having few apps on the machine installed personally (basically Opera and Google Maps) if I start Opera, I get a memory full error and the browser closes.
I've been checking it out, but I can't see the memory status going below 14mb.
Is this a common issue?
Thanks all
Jason
Our Wizards have very small memory & Opera is one of the heaviest browsers.
You are seeing 14mb of free memory because you are checking it with opera closed. Open opera, let it load one ''heavy'' page & then (without closing it) check your available memory. I am sure you will see something beetween 1-3mb .
If you like Opera so much & you don't want to change it then before you use it make a SoftReset so that you will have the most free memory that you can.
I will also suggest you:
1) To move to a newer rom. Ty one of CRACING's or X2H's. They make Roms for every taste.
2) Try Skyfire browser. It's much lighter than Opera, it's faster & it supports streaming media without the use of any other program.
I hope I have helped.-
hello, thankyou for your reply!
I agree, I tried what you suggested and it did show 4mb on opera use . I also noticed that on startup for about 1 minute i'll have only 2-3mb memory free until it jumps to around 14.
I remember on my old iPaq being able to actively change the storage/program memory to suit with a scrollbar (more storage, less program...etc)
I assure you opera isn't my browser of choice. if I could, i'd have chrome running, but it's not out for wm yet as far as i'm aware. i'll try your suggested browser.
the standard procedure is to flash the oem rom before trying a new one, yes? will any wizard oem rom (i've seen plenty about) be ok for this, or will I need to flash one specific to it's branded name? (imate kjam with no service provider, bought as a standalone unlocked device from manufacturer). I would like one similar to that I have now (tnt pro w/ htc home) do the above offer anything like that, or is wm6.5 better for the device in terms of memory usage etc?
I appreciate these are a lot of questions, however would be greatful for your assistance
thanks,
Jason
I just installed MemMaid - and what a difference!!
From 1-3mb up to 14 on process hungry apps, and from 14 to 22mb on idle!
Happy me
I have tried MemMaid a lot of time ago & I didn't like it (I can't remember why because this happened far-far ago). Now I will give it a try again. Maybe something has changed.
To free up some memory without SoftReset I use Oxios CloseApps. A lot of people suggest using CleanRam but I also didn't like it. Yea I know I'm strange .
It is recommended to first flash an official rom & then a custom. I haven't done it so far & I am flashing my phone at least once a month the last 2 years. I haven't face any problem... yet .
If you want to flash an official rom first, T-mobile 2.26 is the recommended one for every brand.
I am using a WM6.5 CHome rom. I have installed a lot of programs that eats memory. When I SoftReset my device I have about 25mb of free Ram. At the end of the day my Wizard have about 12-14mb of free Ram. So I will recommend 1 or 2 SoftReset per day.
At last I will suggest you again to try one WM6.5 rom with CHome. When i will find some free time I am going to try X2H's WM6.5 (with CHome+LockScreen)- {Build 23007} because usually X2H's roms are bug free. I have tried almost every release of him.
I am happy if I have helped even a little bit .-
That is a fantastic wealth of information you have provided! Thankyou Sam!
Last little enquiry, is that T-Mobile both safe and recommended to do on the G4 (my other device) or seeing as it's straight out of the box with HardSPL I can just install a G4 Rom?
Also, I don't understand the whole "radio" upgrading thing..
A little off the original topic, but I have your attention
I think that T-Mobile 2.26 is not safe for your G4 because it has ipl/spl version in it. As far as I know a rom is safe for a G4 only if it doesn't include an ipl/spl version. I'm not 100% for that so I will suggest you to take a look at Wizard Windows Mobile 6 for newbies especially at section 2. Unlocking.
Now as for the radio rom.
You can flash a radio rom without loosing your data. It's completely safe. I can't recommend you a radio rom because it has to do with the country that you are staying.
For example v2.25 is the best for me (Greece) but for you it maybe mean bad reception, battery drain, or even loosing some calls or text messages. You must find by yourself what version suits you.
Visit the thread Updating Radio Rom for more information & for some Radio Roms.
You can find some more Radio Roms at the Wizard Wiki under the header ''Radio Rom''.
Good reading, you have a lot to do .-
Thanks again Sam!
I'm trying to find out as much as possible, but considering I've had the Wizards all of one week it's a bit new.
I understand the radio now, I don't think I'll do anything to it, seeing as it works just fine here...
I've already unlocked the G4
And I'll be looking into one of the newer roms for the G3 due to the current one not being overly awesome at the moment.
Thanks again Sam!

I have tried MemMaid a lot of time ago & I didn't like it (I can't remember why because this happened far-far ago). Now I will give it a try again. Maybe something has changed.

Well, I haven't tried MemMaid before, but I have it set up to monitor memory use and actively release it. After each soft reset it will also run a "clean" and rid the system of things I don't need.
I installed the WM6.5 w/ CHome on my G4 last night - it is very, very nice!!
I will also be doing that on my G3 tonight, or perhaps see if I can find another one.. thankyou for your help Sam. You've been great!
