O yeah, i like this program that dopod uses, "usb switch" cause it seems that when in serial mode it sync better and connect faster unlike in RNDIS mode. is there anyway to make it permanently in serial mode?

Is there a way to do this?

I don't recommend doing this, so do a backup first because it can be a pain to undo. Let me know if it works or not.

Vijay.
I have one instance of USB switch installed.
It temporarily sets the switch to Serial but needs to be re-set after every soft reset.
Does this version make it permanent?

This is no different to the version I had installed beforehand.

???????????????????????????????????????

No idea - it's pulled out of the Tornado rom. I used it once, it screwed my activesync, I never used it again.
I can't really see the benefit of the idea though. RNDIS works well, when it works.
If there's a registry setting that it forces (which it probably does), you could extract it and I could make you a program to make it a permanent setting. But, I'm not trying the program again as it is, because of my previous bad experiences with it.

Exactly, as you say 'when it works' since i installed a new wifi card and started using higher encryption RNDIS no longer works
so the benifit is the fact that i can actually sync with my laptop, which previously i had to either do it server based, of fire up my desktop pc (which i dont really use anymore)
i have had a good search through the registry and not managed to find a key that will permanently set to serial mode

Yes!!! i was having problem with activesync too and this USB Switch solved the problem for me! thanks!!!

Is there anything to do on the computer to get this working?
After I switched my Qtek S200 to serial, a new peripheral was detected... but nothing new with activesync... no sync at all…
In RNDIS mode, it syncs correctly with outlook, but not with my exchange server… and I can not surf the net while connected to usb…

In HLM/Drivers/USB/FunctionDrivers you can find the "DefaultClientDriver = RNDIS". I think here you can change the default setting. (Not tested ...)

Settings for phone/3g in corp mode?

I got my XDA Exec last week and was impressed apart from the speed of the unit when switching screen modes. I thought that the O2 active would be to blame, so found out how to stop it running, and voila my Exec was instantly faster.
After further reading I found that a hard reset and selecting corp (or corporate) mode would install the bare minimum, so I decided to try this to see if it was better. Unfortunately, the phone and gprs/3g now do not work, as the settings are not installed. Does anybody know how to set these up? The Exec does appear to be much faster so I would quite like to get it running in corp mode.
Thanks
Allan
AFAIK, Basic mode is identical to Corp mode, except that it does pre-configure the connection settings. The O2 Active interface doesn't appear in Basic mode.
However, I think Basic mode does include an O2 icon in the Start bar and a battery monitor thingy there too. It's relatively easy to stop them appearing by deleting the relevant links from the \Windows\Startup folder though, and then you have a clean Exec like God intended
The one thing did like about corp mode was that it didnt say "running in basic mode" when resetting, and it had a battery monitor on the today screen. But I guess I can live without those...

The Basic mode also uses the O2 Phone Dialer skin, which is removed in the Corp install.

Oh. Just tried selecting Corp and did a soft reset and the phone looks exactly the same to me. Ah well. It's not exactly an ugly skin so I don't care if it is the O2 one.
What does the non-O2 skin look like?

Similar, but less "flashy", but more in-keeping with the default WM5.0 theme.
Doh! Thanks Dave, didnt notice that was a link before!
Is there anything else I would need to setup in corp mode that would otherwise be setup in basic mode? I cant think of anything off-hand.
Also, if you know anything about this it may be useful. I connect to 3g but the connection often hangs. In IE I see either "connecting..." or "locating..." in the status bar and nothing else. The only way to fix this once it gets to this state is to reset the unit. Merely restarting the connection doesnt seem to work. I get similar probs in any prog that uses the 3g connection, they just stop working. (I am in good reception areas too).
Do you think this is a setup issue, a simcard or phone issue? I am inclined to think it might be a simcard issue.
Thanks

I've just done this myself yesterday, and all the services I've tried appear to be working - I can send and recieve calls, text and use the web. The only thing I've not tried yet is MMS. The only thing missing from the Corp mode that I would like is a decent battery bar, but I'd imagine that I'll be able to find a little utility that will do that.

To tell you the truth, I don't know. This is the first time I've used a 3G phone myself (been a user of all previous XDA's, none of which were 3G) so I had to get my SIM switched over. All I did notice is that one my account was switched to the new SIM connectivity seemed to be very bad in the 3G areas - I phone O2 about it and they said they had some issues with their network then. That was last week, but now everything seems to be fine.
To you restore your battery meter in corporate mode you need to make sure that batterNFO.exe is here
\Windows\Mobile Solutions\O2ActiveUI\Modules\BatteryNFO\batteryNFO.exe
and makesure that batteryNFO.lnk is here
\windows\startup\batteryNFO.lnk
if anyone needs a copy of the file let me know and I will post a link
If you install the gprs monitor from the o2 app disc, it has a nice little battery info built in to the gprs monitor icon.

Im sorry I got it wrong, I thought I had got it because there was an on screen battery indicator in corporate mode, but I have come to realise that it might have been their already (the one next to the wireless manager)

without having to Manually click the WMstorare shortcut?
Nope.

Thanks for this util...works great.
does this tool support usb2.0?
I think it does, if the device and the desktop support it. It just enables the USB port of the device to be used without using AS. Since the current devices do not support USB 2.0, we cannot know for sure.

Dead Activesync

I know theres a million posts about activesync but honestly i've never ran into an error i couldn't solve. Now i'm just stuck.
When i connect my device to USB nothing happens. Windows makes that device connected sound and thats it. Activesync doesn't budge. I've restarted my pc, soft reset my device. Repaired activesync, uninstalled and reinstalled it. Ran that ReSync program several times as well as Activesync Toggle. NOTHING
I changed the USB cable even plugged it into a different port. When i do that windows pops up with that little notification new hardware found. Does its little routine but still... activesync is dead.
What do i do all mighty ones?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just tried to connect with my laptop and same thing. My brother's wizard connects to my activesync.... Does this mean its time for a hard reset?
What's happen ?
Is Activesync wizard client launching when you connect usb cable ?
Is Activesync server (pc) launching when you connect usb cable ?
Have you removed any notification in notification queue on wizard , with memmaid (or sktools) ?
Is the process repllog.exe is launching when on wizard you connect usb cable ?

its located in the notification que twice., first one doesn't have an argument, second one says AppRunAfterRndisFNDetected.
guess its not detectind Rndis... also when i use softic card export in usb mode, it does connect to the pc as a flash drive. but i removed it thinking it might be the culprit.
You need two repllog notification queue :
1- AppRunAfterRndisFnDetected (you have this one)
2- AppRunAtRs232Detect (you must recreate this one with memmaid or sktools for exemple)
thanks for that info, i just added the 2nd one, i'll try it out when i get home.
also one of the 2repllogs i've got has the argument /sched /remote /h thursday, august 03, 2006 - 8:01:40 should i remove this or leave it?
No you can leave it.
Some news ?
Same thing happened to me. I ended up having to uninstall ActiveSync on the PC, then go to Device Manager and remove the SmartPhone USB driver, reboot - and reinstall. Fixed the problem.
The time before that, I had to hard reset the Wizard when I trashed ActiveSync on the device itself.

worked like a charm, thank u so much, thought i was due for a hard reset but u were right on the money.
but when i first added the one i was missing i had to switch batteries, when i did that it was gone so i just re-added it and now its still in there.
haven't swapped batteries yet but done a couple of soft resets and its fine.
thanks again!
you're welcome
BTW guys - simular prob here... but I'm not going to hard reset... wondered if there where any simularities ?

I recreated the second one but cannot find this option using memmaid.
1- AppRunAfterRndisFnDetected (you have this one)

try this it will solve your pb.

Even if You kill activesync after disconnect (I'm using quickmenu to do this) after some minutes activesync starts again.
Anyone has a solution for this?

Crash - Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1749695&postcount=12
AppSentry
AppSentry was made just for this reason. It can kill activesync and other apps on a regular basis. The link is in my signature.
It doesn't require you to run it, it runs itself. And it does not run in background so takes no memeory when it is not running.
solution?
ASyncKiller
This application allows to kill the ActiveSync process when it's in idle state but it just hold in memory...

Help:(

well...as the title already indicates, I am currently locked out of my Touch HD. For some reason throttle lock has picked a pattern after installing version 0.5 which is not similar to the one that I was using. An obvious solution would be to delete lockcode.txt by using ActiveSync, I am familiar with this method. The problem however is that the last time I hooked my phone to my laptop it was set to DISKDRIVE which does not let me enter the phone memory. So my question was if I could maybe force ActiveSync to start somehow, or overwrite throttle lock of if there is an other solution for my problem...
I really don't know what to do anymore and I actually don't want to perform a hard reset. Please help xda
kind regards
