I know this phone inst meant to have the best signal in the world, but it seems to have good signal were I am and as soon as i try to use the internet or send a message it drops out completely?
any ideas for this problem?
thanks in advance!
I think I have the same / similar issue, moreso when trying to send an SMS. It doesn't always happen but the majority of the time when I am at home or on the train. Hit REPLY on a text and then type it and normally have to wait until the signal returns, normally 10 - 40 seconds maybe.
Sound familiar?
got that, too.
If I put the hardware keyboard out my signal sucks, when I open Opera my signal sucks, too.
Everytime I send an sms/mms my phone signal drops completely. Sometimes the messages send, sometimes they don't. I even tested this a couple times sending myself a text....anyone else experiencing this?
And yes I have tried restarting.

I've experienced this too, but only when I already have a pretty low signal. It never happens when I have a good signal (not based on the notification bar, actually reading the dBm).
ive had this issue with every tmobile phone i have ever owned. even my nokia n900 on tmobiles network had this issue.

Have you tried switching to 2g?

Whenever I'm in a car or a bus, I tend to lose signal or even the data connection. It shows the bars but no data activity, and or loses the five bars and is empty. Ill go in phone status and check the phone signals are all 0. This just started happening, I'm going to give tmobile a call.

this may sound dumb, but could it be the way you are holding the phone? much like my nexus one, i find that when i hold the phone landscape my right hand willc over up the bottom of the phone where the antenna is and my signal drops. depending on how weak it was to start, sometimes i kill my signal. my G2 isnt as bad as my nexus was but it still happens sometimes ive noticed.

It is not an iPhone!
No but it happens anyway I hold it. Landscape or vertical, it loses signal even when I'm at my desk in class and not moving it will drop signal and then take abour 5-10secs to get the signal again.
And also I realized that when I have 1 bar, it will lose signal and then get 5 bars. I'm thinking it doesn't do good at holding signal and transferring from tower to tower.
Lol. Its not the way I'm holding the phone. I'll have full bars, then soon as I click send, I have none....then it goes from E to H.

Only when roaming or on EDGE
I have only had this happen while roaming or on an Edge network. We are very fortunate in Lubbock to have HSPA and GPRS, only a couple of towers are pushing edge in this area. Usually once I return to a G or H, SMS/MMS goes through with no problems... May have something to do with the Radio Issue, the alleged ota will fix...
In the past few days, I've noticed my phone sometimes loses signal randomly: the bars will turn dark gray (not light gray) and there would be an "x" over the bars. Def. no "3G" indicator.
And it's happening in places where I normally get signal. A reboot doesn't fix this. I just have to wait until the signal is back up. I haven't installed anything new recently, nor am I running anything out of the ordinary.
Anybody else experiencing this as well? I did a quick search and wasn't able to find much.
I'm still on 2.3.2 (haven't gotten the OTA), unrooted.
I also experience this loss of signal. Constantly. Every time during a call.

Just to clarify, this isn't happening to me during calls, or hasn't happened to me during a phone call yet. Sometimes I pick up my phone, and I see I have no signal. And of course, attempting to call out or access gmail/internet proves it so.
It's very frustrating.
2.3.3 comes with a updated radio.
You can also fastboot the updated radio but your phone isn't modded.

I will need to clarify myself too, I meant I always lose the data signal every time I'm in a call. As for the phone signal (bars), I have no issues.

Are you on EDGE (2G) or 3G or WiFi when that happens? EDGE does not support concurrent use of voice and data, but the other types of data should.
When I place a call, it hangs on "dialing" for a long time before it connects. When I say a long time, I mean at least 5 or more seconds. I have 5 bars of signal and "H" data so its not a signal problem. Why? Is there a way to fix this? I am running stock rom, rooted.
Mine does this also and sometimes but not often I have to end the call and redial, sounds like it could just be the phone or some of the myTouch 4G's, also I run Royal Glacier 1.2 so I doubt it has anything to do with the ROM
Tmobile tells me this is normal and there is nothing to fix it. I find this hard to believe.
When I start up my Tab it takes an extremely long time (sometimes seems like up to 20 minute) before I get service. I'm not in a 4G area, so it's just getting 3G. Does this happen to anyone else? Seems a bit odd for it to do this every time. I'm about to wipe the whole thing and start over unless this is normal (which i hope it's not).
My takes anywhere from 12 to 20 seconds after once it's rebooted.

WTH?!...Roughly 20-mins just to get 3G service?!? Dunno what to tell you there besides that blows! Perhaps take it back to where you got it & request another one and/or see if their demo unit replicates the same issue?

Yup, mine takes around 20 - 25 secs as well to get 4G once rebooted.
had the same problem when first got it. Mine wouldnt even get a connection, called verizon 1 guy i talked to made me turn off device and reinsert sim card worked for about 10 minutes then lost connection again. Called back and another guy told me to do a hard reset (think its pretty lame i have to do a hard reset with the first 2 hours of having device, maybe grounds for replacing dont know) but once i did that i get connection but very weak, sometimes nothing. I have the 4g version as well. Maybe someone can ellaborate more on the issue.

That doesn't sound right at all. Have you noticed that it's weaker and/or stronger in certain areas or is it always weak?
It doesnt really matter but most of the time its at my house which is worse. I have a droid x2. never goes out of service. Im thinking it just has something to do internally with this contraption.
