I think you might be having the same problem i did for a while. I knocked up a seperate voice installer to put the voice files in the right place. feel free to give it a go.
helo . is this the portuguese voice ?
'fraid not, it's the english one.
I dont now how to do a ´cab ....can you do for all of us Portuguese guys..??
You can edit his file with wince cab manager! and drag the voice files you want installed in this cab
Ok.. but where i put this cabs ???
In the CAB files, you'll have a file called dataXX.CHK. Put that file in this folder on your device:
Code:
\TomTom\TomTom
for version 5.10, it has to be under that full path.
for version 5.00, it has to be under \TomTom.
I believe it's a typo in their software, but that's the only way I got any of the voices to work.
Just create a folder called TomTom on the root of your device, then create another folder under it also called TomTom. Finally, copy your CHK file into that folder. You can also copy the dataXX.BMP and dataXX.VIF files into that folder, but that's optional.
That's it!
Strange...i belive that i need a folder voices....
1. download wince cab manager
2. open voice**.cab with wince cab manager
3. open files in this voice cab
4. extract data**.chk out of the cab, by dragging it to a new folder
5. determine which *.vif file (also in the folder voice on your cd) is linked to your voice**.cab (in your case porf.vif (female) and porm.vif (male))
6. rename the porf.vif or porm.vif file to data**.vif (** is the number of the voice file) and copy he file to your new folder
7. open tintoy.cab
8. open files in this cab
9. drag data**.chk and data**.vif into this cab
10. save tintoy's cab file
11. execute this file in your pda
you can also make a folder voices and put the chk and vif file in there
\voices in the root of the device
I have tried pretty much everything I could find on this forum, but I can't get my TT voice (Eva) to work. Problem is that when I go to 'change voice' in the TTN menu, I only get grayed out images of voices that I cannot select.
- I executed the official installation file of 'Eva' which installed all the separate wav files in /TomTom/TomTom/ - no luck
- I copied them to a directory /Voice/ on the storage card - no luck
- I installed 'data15.chk' in every tomtom and navigator directory I could find - no luck
- I copied data15.chk to the /voice/ directory on storage card - no luck
An oh yes, I did soft reset after every step and reloaded TTN. But nothing worked. Even the Eva voice that is installed 4 times now does not show up. It's almost as it the image file is missing and TTN doesn't look any further...
Ideas, anyone? Thanks!
i have the directory VOICES in the root from the Storage-Card.
In this Directory i have 3 files:
data02.chk 807k
deuf.vif 28 bytes
deuf.wav 53k
i think your tt5 are missing the second file, but the name are different,
the extender are the same.
regards
I had this problem
I had to extract the voice cab files from the TT 5 CD copy them on to my SD card then install them from there.
Once you TT after you can select the voice you want
I had the same problem, in the end the only way I could a working voice on there was by using the inbuilt download option in tomtom, which then allowed me to downlaod the free Jane Voice. Which it stored in \Voices\ (i.e. a voices directory directly on the system root) but when I copy voices files in there manually they dont work I wonder if perhaps they had put a fix in on 5.21 to stop people using unlicensed voices ?
If you copy the voice files (for Jane this is data05.vif & data05.chk) to
My Documents\TomTom
Next time you boot you should be able to choose Jane
Guessing will work for other voices too
Like a lot of Pocket PC Software, TomTom probably looks in several places for the voice files. My problem turned out that I was trying to use the Sarah Michelle Gellar voice from a certain infamous collection of voices, and that particular voice does not work with tomtom wherever its put!
Found the voice solution: an image file!
My problem was not that the voice files were installed in the wrong place. The problem was that every installation (and I tried a few) only installs a 'dataX.chk' and a 'dataX.vif' file. Now in TT5, you choose a voice based on an image (country flag + silhouette of a man/woman) and the respective image file was not included in the installation files. So even though the voice files were installed at the right place, I still could not select them.
What I did was go to the TomTom voices download page, copied the correct image from there, renamed it 'dataX.bmp' and put it with my voice files on the Vario. I guess any image file would do as long as it's a bitmap and has the correct file name. Works like a charm!
Hope this will help others!
Based on the BA_WM5_Voice_Dialer.cab file from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28033
Since I can't stand Cyberon Voice Speed Dial and trying to train the stupid program for hundreds of contacts, I removed all the Cyberon-related files and registry entries, and changed the link to point to \Program Files\Voice Command\voicecmd.exe.
This 30K CAB file is all you need, saving you 440K of Cyberon files. Just install Microsoft Voice Command 1.5 first, then install this CAB file, then reboot. Tada!

For those interested, I installed TomTom 5.00 on my 8125 tonight and it is now working perfectly.
Here is how I did it.
Create a new folder on your SD card and copy all of the CAB and INI files except for ttn.cab and ttn.ini to your SD card from D:\pocketPC (assuming D:\ is your CDROM drive containing TomTom install CD)
Run all the cab files in whatever folder you just made (on the 8125, NOT on your PC)
Download WinCE Cab Manager and install it
Open up D:\pocketpc\ttn.cab using WinCE Cab Manager
Copy the data.chk file from the CAB to your \program files\Navigator directory on your 8125
Copy TomTom Navigator.exe from the CAB to program files/Navigator on the 8125
Copy CurrentMap.dat from the CAB to \My Documents\TomTom on the 8125
Open D:\voice\voice09.cab with WinCE cab manager.
Copy the data09.chk file to \program files\Navigator on your 8125 (this will give you the "Robert" voice as default, you have to have at least one voice installed)
Copy any maps you need to the root of the SD card.
Pair your bluetooth GPS receiver with your phone and assign it an OUTGOING com port under the com port section of the BlueTooth connections utility in WM2005. Remember what COM port you gave it.
Copy \Program Files\Navigator\navigator.cfg from your 8125 to your desktop.
Open navigator.cfg in a text editor. You will see a reference to COMn where n is any number. Change n to the COM port number that you assigned your bluetooth GPS to. Save the navigator.cfg file and copy it back over to \Program Files\Navigator\
THATS IT!
Its alot of steps, but I now have TT 5.00 working on my 8125.
Let me know if you use this method, and if it works. It worked like a charm for me.
FIne for the install but how do you get the maps from the 6 cd's to the sd card?
I don't mean to ask silly questions, but I can't seem to manage a simple installation. I download the "WM VI Black Cyberon Voice Dial" cab and would like to install it, but have no idea where to begin!!! Could someone please help me with some step-by-steps? I would like to try this out instead of the MS Voice Commander. I also downloaded the "WM VI Black Cyberon Voice Commander" just in case, and would love to find out what works best on my Hermes. I would appreciate any help that may come my way.
:-D
save it on your storage card and run it from the file explorer on the phone.....?
What to run . . .
Do I "execute" the _setup.xml file? Will that copy everything needed to everyplace required?
Execute the xml file? What have you done to the file already?
Copy the complete cab file (don't try and extract anything) onto your phone. Then (through file explorer) double click or run the cab. The XML file etc should all be within the cab and you should not even need to know about it. The cab should run on your phone as it is.
