I have tried pretty much everything I could find on this forum, but I can't get my TT voice (Eva) to work. Problem is that when I go to 'change voice' in the TTN menu, I only get grayed out images of voices that I cannot select.
- I executed the official installation file of 'Eva' which installed all the separate wav files in /TomTom/TomTom/ - no luck
- I copied them to a directory /Voice/ on the storage card - no luck
- I installed 'data15.chk' in every tomtom and navigator directory I could find - no luck
- I copied data15.chk to the /voice/ directory on storage card - no luck
An oh yes, I did soft reset after every step and reloaded TTN. But nothing worked. Even the Eva voice that is installed 4 times now does not show up. It's almost as it the image file is missing and TTN doesn't look any further...
Ideas, anyone? Thanks!
i have the directory VOICES in the root from the Storage-Card.
In this Directory i have 3 files:
data02.chk 807k
deuf.vif 28 bytes
deuf.wav 53k
i think your tt5 are missing the second file, but the name are different,
the extender are the same.
regards
I had this problem
I had to extract the voice cab files from the TT 5 CD copy them on to my SD card then install them from there.
Once you TT after you can select the voice you want
I had the same problem, in the end the only way I could a working voice on there was by using the inbuilt download option in tomtom, which then allowed me to downlaod the free Jane Voice. Which it stored in \Voices\ (i.e. a voices directory directly on the system root) but when I copy voices files in there manually they dont work I wonder if perhaps they had put a fix in on 5.21 to stop people using unlicensed voices ?
If you copy the voice files (for Jane this is data05.vif & data05.chk) to
My Documents\TomTom
Next time you boot you should be able to choose Jane
Guessing will work for other voices too
Like a lot of Pocket PC Software, TomTom probably looks in several places for the voice files. My problem turned out that I was trying to use the Sarah Michelle Gellar voice from a certain infamous collection of voices, and that particular voice does not work with tomtom wherever its put!
Found the voice solution: an image file!
My problem was not that the voice files were installed in the wrong place. The problem was that every installation (and I tried a few) only installs a 'dataX.chk' and a 'dataX.vif' file. Now in TT5, you choose a voice based on an image (country flag + silhouette of a man/woman) and the respective image file was not included in the installation files. So even though the voice files were installed at the right place, I still could not select them.
What I did was go to the TomTom voices download page, copied the correct image from there, renamed it 'dataX.bmp' and put it with my voice files on the Vario. I guess any image file would do as long as it's a bitmap and has the correct file name. Works like a charm!
Hope this will help others!

Hi,
After many hours of trying to get tomtom to work on my mini s I finally did it. Only one problem now is hopw do i get the voice files to work? I have transfered the voice cabs that i want over to the device and storage card and ran from there. Installed perfectly but still no voices within tomtom? What am i doing wrong?
cheers
Well, in the directory u find tomtom directory, make a new sub-dir with the name tomtom and put the voice files there.
so i put the new "tomtom" folder in mydocuments/tomtom?
eg.
my documents/tomtom/tomtom
then do i install from here?
cheers
Hi!
@ferritt: I'm really wondering why your TomTom Setup is so complicated (compared to mine)... Most of us just copied the correct voice.cab (UK Janes file is called engf.cab) to the device and started it (NOT installing to the Storage Card).
It creates a folder under /My Documents -> tomtom with the following files in it -> CurrentMap.dat, data02.chk (that should read data05.chk for english Jane) and data02.vif (data05.vif).
Final view:
/My Documents/tomtom/
CurrentMap.dat
data05.chk
data05.vif
Hope this helps.
Greetings

see what i have mate is the voice files (cab) from my tomtom 5 cd. But also i have the .chk files aswell on another tomtom cd which is the only one i could get working. so should i just put them into the .chk files ionto the tomtom folder?

It is perfectly possible to install everything to the Storage Card. There's a complete walkthrough here (for the Universal, but the Wizard is very similar)
Edit: added direct download here
Hi
just got my XDA Mini S.
I have also bought a Holux GPSlim236 bluetooth GPS reciever.
I have NOT got a miniSD card... do I need one???
I have downloaded tomtom_5.21_wm2005_ppc_+crack with these files in the folder on my PC:
gps.cab
PIMAddIn.cab
ttn.cab
voice12.cab
wzd.cab
(FOLDER) crack with:
TomTom Navigator.exe
(FOLDER) TomTom with:
CurrentMap.dat
Is there any chance someone can write a install TomTom guide *for dummies* in real laymans terms?
Due to the amount of space required to by TomTom there is no way you're going to be able to install it on your device without extra space - eg miniSD card. They're reasonably cheap, compared to a few years ago, and you can get a 2Gb on eBay for about £35 to £40 or around half that if you just want to get a 1Gb card, which will be more than enough for TomTom.
Once you've done that, read this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=29277
Right I'll pop out to Aria and get a miniSD
I read that link as well and it's very confusing...
I just want basic steps for an install to get tomtom sat nav working.
I had the same problem before and I ran across this article:
http://www.4winmobile.com/q-how-can-i-install-tomtom-navigator-5-on-wm5-devices-vt934.html
Probably it will help you in installing it correctly.
You definitely need to have mini SD card for this app.
DulYang
Not got the miniSD card yet but read the guide and am still not sure what to do.
Take your version 5 Application/Resource CD (probably CD1 or 6) and copy the contents of the CD to a folder on your desktop.
Download the latest update from TomTom currently v5.21 (28-12-05).
I have got 5.21 but it's not on CD
Copy the files that you just extracted to the folder on your desktop that contains the CD files and overwrite the existing “setup.exe” with the new one.
I have not extracted anything, and I don't have a file called setup.exe
Execute “setup.exe” and follow the instructions to install.
Now copy the next CD to a folder on your hard drive (EG:The map cd).
No CD
Follow steps 3 to 5
Keep repeating this process for all your CD’s, Maps, Voices, Post Codes.
do I need map files or do I have them???
Now most of the stuff (apart from maps & post codes) were installed in the main memory of my o2 XDA Exec even though I explicitly stated in the install to put them on the SD Card.
I rectified this by performing the following:
do I need to do any of this?
Create a folder on the SD Card called “TomTom”.
Cut the files from the folder “Navigator” which is in main memory under “\Program Files”.
These files are “TomTom Navigator.exe” & “data.chk”.
Paste these files into the folder “\Storage Card\TomTom”.
PLEASE NOTE:
Without the presence of a TomTom folder here the full postcode lookup, voices and schemes will fail if you move them to the Storage Card.
& Don’t forget to change the path of the shortcut under Start>Programs
You can use a 3rd party explorer like Resco Explorer for this
You can delete the “Navigator” folder from main memory now.
Create a folder called “voices” in the root of SD Card.
IE: “\Storage Card\voices”.
Cut the files inside “\My Documents\tomtom” which is in main memory, these files are the English UK voices. (You may have more).
“data04.chk”, “data04.vif”, “data05.chk” & “data05.vif”.
Created a folder called “schemes” in the root of SD Card.
IE: “\Storage Card\schemes”.
This is where I put all my downloaded schemes & the ones I created.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you are using a custom scheme don’t be alarmed when you load TomTom and your display looks a little bland, your custom scheme will appear when you have a valid GPS signal.
In the main memory there is “\TomTom” with the following files inside it.
“_do_not_remove.txt”, “go1108m.wav”, “tttoday.bmp”, “tttoday.dll” & “tttodayvga.bmp”.
These files are for the today screen pluggin.
Apparently, although I cannot confirm, these files can be deleted if you don’t use the TomTom today pluggin.
BUT THE FOLDER MUST REMAIN!
I suppose you could use Activesynch to remove this pluggin.
If you use custom menus you will have a folder inside this “TomTom” folder called “SDKRegistry”
and inside this folder will be a file called “TomTom.mnu “
I don’t use custom menu’s so I’m assuming this must stay where it is.
Now you need to create a text file called “CurrentMap.dat”.
Open the file & type & \Storage Card\Great_Britain-Map\
or whatever the name of your main map folder is on your SD card.
Do not forget to add the final backslash and a have a space between the ampersand and the first backslash.
Save the file as "CurrentMap.dat". Make sure it doesn't end up as CurrentMap.dat.txt!
Put this file in the main memory of your PPC under “\My Documents\TomTom”.
PLEASE NOTE:
Without this file TomTom will tell you that you have no maps installed!
In the main memory, under “Program Files” there is a folder called “Conatcts Navigation”
IE: “\Program Files\Contacts Navigation”.
I think this needs to stay where it is in order for the contacts <> TomTom “navigate to/find on map” integration feature to work.
(Eg. Select a contact from your address book and find them on the map/navigate to them)
At this stage you should pair your Bluetooth GPS Receiver before launching TomTom.
I have the Bluetooth GPS listed but it says COM6, does this matter?
Start>Settings>Connections>Bluetooth> Turn on bluetooth.
Turn on your Bluetooth GPS receiver.
Click on “devices” tab and then on “new Partnership”
Wait for the scan.
Select “BT GPS” (or whatever your's is called).
Click on "next" Enter passkey (mine was "0000")
Check your GPS Receiver's manual.
Click on "next"
Once properly paired, put a check next to "Serial Port" as the device's available service.
click "Finish".
Click on "COM Ports" Tab
Click "New Outgoing Port", select "BT GPS" (or whatever your's is called).
click "next".
Set COM port to "COM4", while leaving Secured Connection still checked.
If that doesn’t work, choose a different COM port.
Click "Finish" and your device should now be listed with (COM4) next to it.
Now load up TomTom.
During setup you will be asked to specify your GPS hardware.
Select "Other Bluetooth GPS" then select "COM4".
PLEASE NOTE:
In future you don’t need to enable bluetooth, just load Tom Tom and it does it for you.
PLEASE NOTE:
IF FLIGHT MODE ON YOUR PDA IS ON, YOU WILL NOT GET A GPS SIGNAL, EVEN IF BLUETOOTH IS ON!
and now all should work
Dam I'm Good!!
To summarize all this, here is my directory structure.
Is this on the XDA Mini S or his PC?
MAIN MEMORY:
\My Documents\TomTom\CurrentMap.dat, great_britain_plus-7777ac9g (This is your registration details in the format "<map name>-<letters&numbers)

Ok, I got it now.
You just have the files cracked from somewhere on the Internet.
In order for this guide to work, you need to have the original TomTom CD 5.0 that includes all the maps, voices etc. ( I believe it was 6 CDs altogehter)
The one that you have is just the "cracked" version of TomTom exe file without any maps to use. That's why it's just a couple of MB in size.
The latest part of the guide is showing the structure of the Wizard, not PC.
DulYang
1. Go and buy a copy of TomTom.
2. Follow the instructions.
Please do not ask for help with cracked/pirate software on this forum, it is not what we are about.

Although I agree with you it would be a first on this forum!!! LOL. Just look at the FTP site! Full of illegal ROMs etc.
OK...
I have now aquired a copy of 5.21 + a 1gig mininSD card
1. I the TomTom Navigator folder onto a new miniSD card
2. Put the card into the slot on the XDA
3. Clicked tomtom navigator.e x e
4. Program starts up and a Legal Notice screen appears
5. Click I Agree
6. Comes up with Can Not Find Maps
So I copy "Great_Britain_Plus-Map" folder to the miniSD card
And I copy "Great_Britain-Map" folder to the miniSD card
Repeat steps 1-5 but then it just hangs... I need to reboot the XDA to make it work again.
Any ideas on what to try next?
Progress...
I have installed the TomTom program from the update on he TomTom site!!!
It installed to the XDA not the miniSD but not problems.
Now where do I put the maps???
and voices???
I have put Great_Britain-Map onto the miniSD card but it's saying:
No Maps Found!
JohnHamer19677 wrote:

You need to install the maps and voices by running the setup.exe from the CD and pick install. That way all the necessary files will be copied over to your Mini D card by the CD installer.
Then if you follow the instruction that I gave you, you would notice step 10.
Step 10 said:

Now this is the time for you to replace the original exe file on your device with the cracked one that you got from the Internet.
I guarantee you it won't ask you for nothing else.
Good luck.
DulYang
Wha hey!!
Sorted now... I had to get another Great-Britain-map to get rid of the activation screen I'd already done the exe swap.
Notice the differance in the under score and dash from the one I downloaded. Don't know if that made a differance.
Now all I had to do was switch maps over to the GB-plus map and I was away.
GPSlim236 picked up my location immediatly from inside downstairs no problems.
Thanks for everyones help especially dulyang.
Ok heres another dummy that has go all the bits but hasn't a clue how to install tomtom on my wizard. (I've had them for 6 months now lol)
Now that you have sucessfully sorted yours John could you write a simple step by step instruction for others ? you will have a better idea than most where existing instructions are a bit vague or ambiguous etc.
Hi Everybody!!! :?
Where do I place my voices folder?
I have a voices folder on my storage card, in my tomtom folder , but also have a voices folder on my device in the tomtom folder there?
When Istart the program and try to change the voice, the voices are greyed out and won't let me select any of them.
Thanks for any replies

Hi mate,
1. 1st download 5.21 from tomtom http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=3361&Lid=1
it's about a quater of the way down the page...
I know you prob have 5.21 but so did I and it didn't install right but the one from tomtom's site did it perfectly... IT'S FREE!!!
2. Have you XDA plugged into your PC using the lead and the Active Sync program.
3. Double click the .exe you just downloaded from tomtom
it will start running on the PC but install to the XDA... follow the on screen instructions on the PC and then follow them on the XDA.
4. Now all you have to do is put your miniSD card in your card reader and drop the maps from the PC to the miniSD card.
You might have to extract to the miniSD card if they are zipped files as extracting them to your PC then drag and dropping didn't work for me.
5. If you have a crack you need to copy the TomTom Navigator.exe out of your Crack folder and replace the one that's in > programs > navigator > on your XDA.
I used the Active Sync "explorer" to navigate to these files.
6. Once that's done just start tomtom and wait it takes a min or so to load and you should get some on scren instructions... go through these and that should be it.
Hi all,
I'm sure you are probably fed up with this topic from newbies by now, so I wikll try to make this as painless as possible.
I have managed to get TomTom 5.21 booting on my XDA Exec, but I am stuck with the obvious map issues ("no maps loaded" error). I have a folder full of the following files:
Great_Britain.Postal
cline.dat
cname.dat
cnome.dat
Great_Britain_Plus.mid
Great_Britain_Plus.pna
faces.dat
mapinfo.dat
poi.dat
setup.dat
tmccodes.dat
traffic.dat
What on earth am I doing with these files to create a coherent GB map file/folder?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this.
Hi,
- Create a folder called Great-Britain-Map
- Copy all of those files into it.
- Copy the map onto the root of your storage card
- On your PC create a new text file (in notepad) called CurrentMap.txt
- In the text file write \Storage Card\Great-Britain-Map\
- Save the text file
- Rename the txt file to CurrentMap.dat
- Create a folder on the device in the My Documents folder called TomTom
- Copy the new .dat file into the TomTom folder
That should do it!
Thanks very much for that clarification!
Is there any need to move the actual TomTom program files onto the storage card too - as I read in another guide in this forum?
Not that I am aware of - My TomTOm prog files are all on the device.
Hi,
After doing all of this, I am still getting the same error...
I'm at a bit of a loss here really...
Hi, I don have cnome.dat - mine reads cnode.dat. Try renaming cnome to cnode.dat
and make sure your map folder on your storage card is called "Great_Britain_Plus"

Correction... the folder you put those files in should really be called exactly Great_Britain_Plus-Map .

I'm having a similar issue with TomTom5.21
I keep getting an error that "No Maps Found!" as soon as I execute the application. The only option is "Cancel" in the bottom corner of the screen.
I've tried playing with the "\My Documents\TomTom\CurrentMap.dat" file about 100 times.
I've had:
$ \Storage Card\Illinois-Map\
& \Storage Card\Illinois-Map\
\Storage Card\Illinois-Map\
Nothing seems to work on this thing. I even tried copying down maps from another state and trying that and it still tells me that it can't find any maps.
I am assuming that maps from 5.0 are compatible with 5.21.
I am also assuming you don't need to have your GPS hooked up and live. Mine hasn't arrived yet, but I wanted to have the software installed and running so when it does arrive I can just go.
Any ideas?
guys are we taling cracked versions or legal versions here as a legal version wont require this kind of messing about
It's a cracked version.
I'm not unwilling to shell out the cash for the full version, but from all the horror stories I hear about getting it to run and getting responses from the company, I'm hesatant to spend that kind of cash unless the program is REALLY worth it. If I can evaluate it first and then see if it works well, I'll order it.
just be sure to have an empty forlder named tomtom on the route of the sd card.
BR
@DonnieZ
In the UK you can buy a product and return it within 7 days - it is the law. So you can evaluate it.
I have TomTom (the software and Euro maps was UKP80 from a German seller on eBay) and it works really well. In fact, I only use my XDa Exec for this now.
Hi Guys, can anyone help, I have just got TT6 with UK Maps, installed it as directed but when TT6 runs, get message that no map is found.
Seem to have everything in place and it is a tt6 map.Have hard resert and re installed but still the same. Any Suggestions??
First of all this should be in the main wizard forum not the upgrade forum. There are several threads there containing all the information you need, plus more with a search.
Anyway, on to the solution:
Check two things. Ensure you have a folder called "tomtom" in your "my documents" folder if you do not, copy it from the root directory. Next from this directory copy "currentmap.dat" to your PC, back it up then edit using notepad to ensure it is pointing to the folder that contains your maps eg (1st char may differ): "& \Storage Card\UK Maps\ " resave it as a dat file put it back in \my documents\tomtom\ and try running it again.
Best of luck
tomtom map
make sure you have folder on your mcard named GB map and its not in another folder as i had same problem and thats how i got it working hope it helps
Thanks ruined, serched for the currentmap.dat but none found, created one with the text /storage card/great_britain/ in and copied file to \my documents\tomtom but still not seeing map. any other suggestions??
how do you get tomtom6?
I know it may sound stupid, but I can't figure out how to do it, and I already searched the forums with no luck.
My question is simple: how to set Footprints to launch and use TomTom 7 instead of the demo of Copilot on my HTC HD2.
Thanks.
I have the same question but in my case it s about igo. I would like to use footprints with my igo.. I am searching for an answer, too. If I find something I will write here. All the best.
I followed the instructions below on another thread, and they work fine in that footpriints now launches TomTom, but it does not plan a route to the footprint. Does anyone have a way of making TomTom navigate to the footprint? From what I have read, a .dll file is required for this. I'd love to get this working.
To make TomTom replace copilot:
-You have to install tomtom to your SD card
-Locate the install dir of tomtom after you have installed it
-Locate the navigator.exe and copy it to another folder
-Rename the navigator.exe in the tomtom folder to copilot.exe
-Rename the navigator.exe you made copy off to splashscreen.exe
-Copy the splashscreen.exe back to same folder as the new copilot.exe is
-Rename the tomtom folder (or what ever the name is) to copilot.
-Copy the new copilot folder, and then locate the original copilot folder on device storage (Program Files/CoPilot) and paste the new folder over the original (DO NOT DELETE THE ORIGINAL FOLDER FIRST)
-Soft reset, and it should work just fine
bumping as a solution would be nice!
Don't like using CoPilot so i would rather be using TomTom.
Changing a link in the registry should be an easier solution...
if i understood wright ,you have at the end to copy the entire eg igo (544mb)folder from storage card to device memory? how will this device work then whithout memory ??
i may be wrong ?
search forim pls, there is some solution linked with navipanel! dunno about the footprint how to adress the coordinates but can be made to start igo8 or tomtom. just search

Routing any GPS to be opened by Navipanel is one thing THEY are asking for something a step further on how to execute a command so it starts routing to a footprint. So far I haven't seen anyone do this.
