search contact via phone number - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

hi,
i know this software exist but am not sure what the software is called.
By basically, inputting the destination numbers say (the first 4 or 5 numbers) it will bring back the names on your list, the more numbers you input the narrower the search becomes. Almost like the SMS texting function.
I need to search for contact names instead of ringing the entire number first.
cheers,
james

The default IntelliDialer does that.

yes there is a software...
Hello jimjamz!
Simply use the search funktion of your pocket pc... type in as many numbers as you want and then search. You will find the contact, the number belongs to...

searching for contacts by the number

just wondering if it is possible to search my address book for a person by typing in their phone number..
i have over 600 contacts on my JASJAR, and sometimes i get calls on my other phone from unsaved numbers, and my only way to look them up is on the host PC's Outlook 2003's Contacts search..
i wonder if i can do the same on the JASJAR, any ideas?
On my KJam the Contats application is able to search for phone numbers.
As I checked, i found that you have to type the exact number (starting with the area code), while for names you can search for parts as well. Strange.
bingo!
i was wondering why the search bar said "Enter a name or number.."
all my number start with the country code.. so i never stumbled across that.
thanks

Search by phone number (not by name) in contacts

Hi
I tried to search in magician forum about this, but it seems not find any similar to this
Have you ever have a feeling to find name by phone number? as for instance I got miss call from 123 111 number but does not show any name in my missed call list
so I open up contacts, but unfortunately, it only allows me to search by name not by phone number...
any idea how to do this?
THanks so much

Click to collapse
Use the "Find" from Programs, type phone number, select "Contact" and voila!
Ow... I didn't realize that this possible as last time I tried them but resulting nothing (probably the number is not exist there and I assumed this function is not working)
Sorry questioning this question as I should read my manual more
you have to put number exactly as it writen in contacts... +38039....
and name will appears
Yea, I just notice that you need to enter exact number (with / without space) otherwise will not show anything... totally a bad search function...!!!
you can use Smart Dial: push green key then, just digit 5-6 cifres of the number and the pda will search all the contacts that contains the 5-6 cifres sequence.

Try the Standard Search option and you can find the contacts by numbers. Cheers
Hm... found anomaly here:
For some reason I tried the Smart Dial skizz0 mentioned, but for some reason it does not show the contact details when I type them, but when dial them it shows correctly
Eg:
what shown in contact:
Home
(61) 3 1234-5678
so I try smart type in smart dial:
12345678
during smart dial typing, no result shown
BUT
when I dial them, after a while it shows "HOME"
Weird isn't it...
for my opinion this "hyphen" method in contact get upside and downside:
upside ==> we can read it easily
downside ==> for some reason the program confused to recognise them...

Custom Contact Fields

Hey,
Does anyone know if it is possible, through the supplied T-Mobile 2.26 ROM or third party software, to create custom contact fields? For example, say I want to have one contact called Papa John's Pizza and inside that contact have three fields named Anytown, Springfield, and NYC each with a number. As it stands now I have to either make a seperate contact for each location or have one contact and make each location say home, work, and work2. The latter choice makes it near impossible to remember which number goes to which office. I have many contacts that have multiple numbers that do not fit neatly into the supplied fields. On my old S60 phone this was quiet a simple task but I just can't seem to figure it out on WM5. Thanks for the help.
You can use IneSoft Address Book to add custom contact fields. The extra fields will be save as Note.
To mark a phone number you can put the text inside the phone number itself. E.g.
Work: +123456789 (Springfield)
or even
Work: Springfield +123456789
where "Work:" is the field name provide by Contacts application. You can use any character that can't be dialed (e.g. not a digit, * or #). Though some letters may cause problems, e.g. 'p' may mean 'pause'... I write my comments in Russian and therefore has no such problems
I use this solution for a long time. It is not specific to an OS or application.
And yes, IneSoft Address Book is good, not only for additional fields! This was the first application I purchased for my TyTN.

This would be really neat if Voice Commander 1.6 would recognize it, but it doesn't.

Caller name instead caller number in SMS

Hi folks,
TIM Brasil send me ans SMS with all calls I've lost. useful when I flying, at arrival I saw who call me.
The problem is the SMS contain the caller number, time and date, so I need to search at Contacts to discover the caller name.
Someone know a piece of software able to look at phone number inside of SMS and scan the Contact to match it, showing the name of the contact?
Best regards
Any ideas?
Here in Italy vodafone sends a similar SMS but sets the sender name to the one who attemped to phone you
In this way the phone shows automatically the name (if it has been stored in contacts)
To quickly discover who's the owner you can do two things:
1) if the message contains "This number +xxyyyyyy tried to call you..." press the down key (the number should be selected by a square box) click and your phone should start dialling that number (doing a lookup in contacts and showing the name)
2) you can remember the first numbers (excluding the international prefix) press "red phone", "green phone" (to quickly start the phone application) and use the hermes' smartdialer to quick find who's the owner.
Try using SPB Diary...
Make sure your numbers are in the international format.

In fact this work, but is not exactly what I want, because after a airplane trip the SMS has 3 or 4 numbers. So I need to call/abort 3 for times... It's not elegant way.
thanks.

WM developer
Hi Guys,
I'm trying again... Is there a WM developer here who could develop a little plug in to do it?
I think is not complicated, but I don't know WM development to do it.
Of course this could sold to the community.
i had once a siemens sl45 and when i had a phone number in a sms it replaced it by the name in the phonebook... i so miss that feature..... i haven't seen it on other phones since then...
I'm not alone
Finally someone understood what I'm saying.
It's very useful this feature. I'm wondering if someone could develop this.
Anybody as a volunteer?
Maybe this is what you need?

phone number display problem and dialing numbers with extensions

Hi All,
Great site!!
I have 2 questions:
1 - When I use smart dialing from my hermes I use the direction arrows once I have found the contact and choose the work number of a contact that has an extension as +1 (999) 999-9999 x 9999 I then get a dialog saying "Invalid entry, please try again."
This same entry dials fine from speed dial or dialing from contacts, any suggestions, it's a real pain to manually dial the whole number.
2 - I have my numbers in outlook 2003 and they are formatted with the +country code format, so all numbers have a + in front of them.
When I smart dial, I can't see the last number of the phone number it only shows
+1 (xxx) xxx-xxx
Again it's really annoying as the only way I can find the number is by dialing and I usually use the smart dial to find a phone number when I am looking for someone's phone number.
BTW I have tried to edit the number and remove the + but outlook put's it back. This is actually good when travelling.
Thanks in advance,
I apologise in advance if this information is somewhere on the site, I am not lazy and I did read quite a bit before posting.
ROM version: 2.15.502.3
WM5
on my outlook, I have the phone num , ext and the phone will dial and wait for pickup before dialing the ext.
of course, i am not using the country code feature, so...
I would be happy with that behavior.
If I could change the font to be smaller in the phone application at least I could see the whole number.
Thanks for sharing.
