Any Softwares for this ?
I would love something like Batti for this...
Hi TauTau,
Thnks for replying !
Whatz Batti ??
Isnt that an application which shows you remaining power of your battery ?
exactly, over the whole width of the screen in a small bar... the same thing for receiption would rule!
Does it shows the signal strength in dBm ??Its more of a technical measurement value !
i guess you missed the word "would" in my last posting...as far as I know, it doesn't exist...
What you're looking for is called GSM Radio Meter from MobileGX (try http://www.hpc.net/file.asp?ObjectID=94143) - not sure though if the program is still available or even marketed.
I used to have it, and it worked great
Cheers

Test Mode
There is a way to put your HTC Wizzard into test mode. Dial: *#*#364#*#* I foundthis on another HTC site. I beleive that there is a registry tweak to make it work. I think after flashing mt ROM to the newest test2 2.3, i have lost that setting, and have no idea what it was. Just google it. Once that number is dialed, it brings up a new screen with numerous tabs. Looks like just a bunch of numbers to me, but somewhere in there, there is a db meter. Between -60 and -90 is the ideal signal
The P3Kit works fine, but is not what I wanted... I'd like to have some permanent visualisation for GSM, just like Batti does for Battery
Yeah that would be nice.

That sure sounds like a Field Test menu which will also display the tower info of the site your PPC is connected to. I'll have to try this on my MDA II.
How do u put your wizard in test mode ?

you can change *#*#364#*#* combination into sth easier to put (i have *0#). anyway, HTC engineering mode was mentioned on xda-dev Wizard's forum already few times. have a look:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=36807
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41978
basically, application seems to work properly only with AKU2 ROMs and is designed mainly for operator's professionals, developers etc. however, there are some GSM-freaks (like me who actually use it for hobbistic purposes.

btw, where exactly do you see dBm units? i only have RSSI field on GSM tab, which is NOT showing dBm units. :-o
and do you have decimal or hexadecimal values in fields ARFCN, LAC, Cell ID? mine are only hex..

Now I've no idea what this does but while trawling through the registry looking for other things I found a folder called engineer mode with among other things a string which looks like its the code to enable engineering mode but I havn't yet made it do anything. Its located here:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\EngineerMode
Anybody else found this and/or know anything about it?
Just curious really!
found, yes
info, no
There's another thread at Modaco, but it has no additional information either

Note that GSMTestMode.exe is available in \Windows\ as well.
probably for creating logs on gsm data signal e.t.c inc gprs
possibly.. though such a logging function is already there; see windows\xpanellog.exe

just for fun,
I added the *#*#364#*#* as a phone number in a generic contact so I don't have to remember it or type it. Just select the name and hit send and voila!
By the way, this works and is slick. For the GSM nerd, it has some valuable info in it!

P.S. There isn't a GSMTestmode.exe in the latest K-Jam ROM so if anyone wants to attach a copy, I'd love to try it.
what works? and what happend?
change the REG as in the first post. Reboot phone.
Now go to the phone and type *#*#364#*#* and in a second or two you'll get a screen full of GSM stats like the actual network you are connected to (310-410 in the case of Cingular here) as well as RSSI and the neighboring cell.
All fun stuff.

Hmmmm. would one of you guys that has it coming up with data load 1.12.10 for the radio and see if it disappears? I'd LOVE to know what the difference is that makes it work!
T-Mobile base US MDA load here with 1.12.10 radio on top of it.....
If this is a registry setting to enable the data flow, that'd be cool to find - I suspect it is, but have no clue where to go look for it....
I have Qtek 9100 with radio 1.12, and this is NOT working.
After changihg the key and dialing the magic number, I getting a window popped up with empty fields

not working with 2.8.7.2 FRE

Anyone know where I can get Wizard SPB benchmarking results?
I have Cingular, I don't get a signal in my house. I only get UMTS down the road. I did go somewhere earlier and I did get a UMTS signal, and I only had a chance to open IE and browse to google.com. It was much faster than the wizard. I will run speed tests when I go to my girlfriends in about 2 hours.

Band Tab?
Could you check if you have this Band Selection Tab in Phone Settings. I have been searching for the registry details of HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting
Would you please do me this favor posting the registry details of the above entry
My device has ShowTimeZonesPage and ShowPIN2Page only. I wonder if yours does anything else. Still working on adding this Band Selection TAB.
Thank you in advance!
I do have the band selection tab. Here is the registry export from that key.
Band Tab
Many thanks!!! You are the best. I tried to copy your settings and my phone (Cingular 8125 with Dopod 838 ROM) accepted them. Sure thing my model has no guts to support UMTS etc, however I've got these long awaited and "all-the-websites-and-forums" searched settings in place. Having tested my Cingular SIM on manual network type switching (GSM/WCDMA/UMTS/AUTO resulted in default of AUTO net pickup. Soon after I open the Band Tab all visible selections go transparent. Well there got to be something else that holds this selection in Auto intstead of for instance GSM only. Despite all this and that I am happy to have the TAB.
Thanks again!!!

All of them would be good, but I guess that you can skip the battery test as it may take forever. Other benchmarking can be all done less than 2 hours. It would be nice if you can hardreset your device to avoid having other applications hogging the resources.
It would be super to see what inside of the HTC is hidden. I would love to compare your new HTC reg key to the previous HTC Wizard. If it is not too much asking would you post this one: HKLM\Software\HTC

343 kbits/sec
887 kbits/sec
887 kbits/sec

My old cellular phone Ericcson R600 is ale to display name of the City I'm actually in.
I would like to have the same on today screen in my MDA2.
Is it possible? Is there today plugin which can do that?
That is not possible. The 'City name' is a Cell Broadcast (CB) message sent on CB Chanell 50 - Windows Mobile can receive CB messages, but there is no special handling of specific CB messages.
is it hardware specific (radio ROM) or OS (WM5 ROM)?
It is not impossible, but such plugin is not known (till now).
It's possible to receive broadcasts (like SMS), don't disturb phone user and store information anywhere.
It is possible to retrive stored information and display on the today screen, too.
I was thinking about this plugin, but time... May be in january ...
actually, pocketmax's phonealarm plays around with "Location-based information (change profile dependent on current location!)" which I think is similar to what you are looking for: it picks up the CellID signal, but not sure what it translates into. The idea is that when you're at "work" it'll pick up on that cell tower and switch to that profile, but I don't think it gives you the "city name".
It's also an experimental addon that doesn't work on every service.
I don't need profile switching. What I need is ability to show on Today Broadcast messages from specific channels
This is possible but the app would have some problems on newer devices as the BCM messages are ignored if the header is similar (for power consumption reasons) so if you would stop the app and restart it but not switch cells you would get no CBM to retrieve info from...
But for XDA2/2i/3 it would work np.
so it's possible but no app? is it possible to write it such plugin in .Net? I don't know C++ well..

Yeah I did read the thread. But dktoday is supposed to slow down the system. Was wondering if there is something else...
I'm using dktoday with Charmer. I have been using that since. I got the unit and it is not slowing down my phone. Charmer and Wizard is relatively the same hardware other than the WiFi and such.
Anywya, dktoday has the option of displaying lines that you need, e.g., it has 3 lines of information, you can have the choice of which line to be displayed. Try that, may speed things up for you.
UPDATE: Ok, I take my words back. dkToday DOES slow your unit down (e.g. the Today screen). Ever since I read this post, I'm trying to 'sense' the effect of dkToday. I had PocketBreeze installed and the 'slow' item on my Today screen is the PBreeze, which I presume it is because it is a heavy item. However, to my surprise, the dkToday seems to be the one causing the PBreeze (probably not just Pb, but all Today plugins). Since I had this program from the first day I had my unit, it doesn't occur to me that it is this that causes the unit to slow down (as many had complain about the slowness of OMAP processor).
I'd love to find a piece of s/w which runs on blue angel or similar, and will go round all the networks accessible at a point in space, and note/log/show the signal strengths
if it understood GPS and could label the results with a positioon, even better.
If it could email off the result, perfect.
Bit like netstumbler for GSM with reporting.

Thanks for the response, although this isn't what I was after. I get this one through the Samsung Tools. What I am looking for is the key that allows the phone to show 3G+, instead of 3G all the time. There was a thread here that showed how you could even make it say 4G or H or whatever 3 characters you wanted.
For the life of me I can't find it.

Also, you need to ADD the registry key entry if it doesn't exist.

Thanks again, however we are talking about 2 different things.
I already have the 3G toggle settings.
The one I am looking for is only cosmetic in nature. When I had the Rogers ROM loaded, the display would show either 3G or 3G+ if I had a faster connection. For some reason AT&T has disabled the showing of the 3G+
There was a post a while ago that showed the registry key to enable this cosmetic fix. I just can't find it.
Once again though, I do appreciate your efforts.

You can basically change it into anything (3 chars max.). And I prefer "H", instead of "3G+".

Thanks for the responses. Message number 6 is the one I was looking for.
One question though, will this change it all the time or just when the actual network is in the H speed range.
With the rogers ROM, I would see 3G and 3G+
