Hallo everyone!
I am new in the forum and new in the PDA world , my last phone that I used was Nokia 6630, and now I have Qtek 9100 , but I am still confused and hope for some help from you..
1- I was setting a ringtone for contact group, when anyone from any group calls me, I can hear a ringtone then I know that this person is from that group, is it possible to do that in my Qtek 9100 ( WM5 ) ?
2- I am using Voice Command, when I recieve a call, the woman says the number, is there any possibility to disable the Voice Command only for the recieved calls and leave it enabled for other functions ?
3- I miss some of applications that were installed in my Nokia Smartphone, like an application for changing the cm to inches or kilogramms to pounds etc.. , is there such application already installed in Wizard ? Or do I have to install it myself ? If yes, what is the name of such appliction ?
4- If I want to install an application, what is the better way, installing it in Memory card or in the Phone memory itself ? Is there any differences if I install it in MC or in the Phone itself ?
I have much more questions, but right now I am trying to figure out the rest myself..
Thanks in Advnce!
No setting for a group but you can set for each contact - in the contact fields - option for ringtone.
there is the free converterce for conversions see here http://www.freewareppc.com/calculator/converterce.shtml
Most of the time best to install to storage card to keep program memory free on the device. Although some applications like notem etc.. need to be installed on the device memory to work properly.
Thanks alot for your answer.
But what about the Microsoft Voice Command ? Can't I just disable it when I reciev a Call ? because it annoys me when the woman mentions the number, I want to disable it from that function and leave it enabled for all other functiones.
Start>Settings>Voice Command
Select Phone>Options>uncheck announce incoming calls
Thanks csterns for the answer.
new question claimed in my head.... Can I restart the phone without turning it off ? Just Restart and not turning off... Any idea how to do that ?
I appreciate any comment.
I'm not sure if you a referring to "resetting" vs "restarting". To reset the phone it does shut down and does shut down (soft reset)
To soft reset you can use this:
Or if you are not using a protective case which covers up the sides of the device then get the stylus and simply poke it in the hole just beneath the infra-red receiver on the righthand side.
Thank you all for your replies.. But I was actually meaning "Restarting" and not "resetting".
But does the "Resetting" do the same as "Restarting" does ? As much as I know, if I do the "Soft Reset" I'll loose any datas or programs that have been saved or installed before, is that right ?
And isn' there a way to only "Restart" the WM5 instead of doing a "Soft Reset" ? Like in the Windows XP for PC, if you click on "Start" then "Turn off Computer" you'll notice there is a "Restart" button.
Everything that has been mentioned so far (including the hole and the stylus) is known as a soft reset. This is exactly like restarting your Windows based PC. Nothing is lost, all your programs and data are still there. "Soft reset" is the correct terminology when talking about PDAs, not a "restart".
A hard reset is where you will lose data. A hard reset can only be performed through a combination of button presses OR by going to Start -> Settings -> System tab -> Clear Storage. Once there it will ask you to confirm you want to hard reset. There is no way you can do it accidentally unless you are really silly!
Aha, thanks Keitaro for your answer. Well that means "Restarting" in PC is the same as "Soft Reset" on PPC, what about any settings I changed, will they be back to default when I do the reset ? I mean like Volume or any settings that I changed in the WM5.

Settings such as volume etc does not get affected by a soft reset.
If you are really worried about understanding what does and does not happen during a soft reset then all you have to do is this...
1) Use your backup program to perform a FULL backup and store the image somewhere other than the device itself, eg storage card. This is only so you can be safe that you go back to where you started if goes wrong. However, I can guarantee you that nothing bad will happen so you won't even need this backup file but do for your piece of mind...
2) Make some random changes, eg volume, today theme, ringtone, documents.
3) Perform a soft reset
4) Check all the changes you just made before the soft reset and you will see that they are all the same as before - nothing has changed
5) Delete the backup because it's not needed
Actually...if you've made any recent (last 30 seconds or so) changes to the registry and then do a 'reset button' soft reset those registry changes may be lost. However this problem doesn't exist for the 'hold standby button down for 3 seconds' soft reset. However, I doubt that you are doing any registry changes right now just remember this for the future.

If he's only just beginning to understand the difference between a hard and soft reset, and what each do and don't do, then he'd better hope he's not fugging about with the registry!
Thanks too much, Keitaro, for this great post.
And I appreciate Cardcaptor_RLH85's post too..
Well to be honest, I knew about "Hard Reset" and "soft reset" before, but what I was fearing is loosing datas and settings after the soft reset, I really didn't know that Restart = Soft Reset, I thought "Soft Reset is usefull when a programm hangs or a problem shows up and I never know that it is exactly the same as Restart for PC.
About Registry Edit, yes I still didn't change anything in Registry, well only 3 days is this baby in my hands.. But I have read here in this forum much about editing the Registry to solve some problems and issues, I really don't fear the editing, because I did this many times in my PC I don't think PPC is more complicated than a PC.
Thanks for you all.
I set up an alarm clock on my P3600. When it woke me up I didn't get the soft key to shut it off. From that point off - it hounts me. Soft reset the device so many times in the last few hours it's driving me crazy. I will get the wakeup tone right after I soft reset EVERY TIME. and then every few hours during the day. I had MS Voice command which I removed. I tried to set a new alarm but that one just added yet another unstopable reminder. I think I also don't get notification for meetings so maybe something is wrong in the registry???
HELP... I don't want to HR the device.
WM5 by the way.
Thanks,
Nir
By the way - tried to remove the notifications from the queue using pocket mechanics but after soft reset - they all came back....
Had the same problem, what solved it was a hard reset.

had the same problem also...
only hard reset helped...
what s/ware are you using for your alarms?
I was using the built-in clock.
Just hope that official WM6 is out soon so I have two good reasons to HR..
i have the very same problem!!! any ideas how to resolve it without HR?

I didn't find any
sometimes ago i install some 3rd party alarm and remove it, bcoz it did not suit me. and install another one.
but first one left some message in notification queue, which always complain "Cannot find program bla-bla-bla...".
solution: install any software (like SKTools) and look inside notification queue (this queue respond for any notifications/alarms/etc..) and cleanup unwanted notifications.
hope, this helps.
added: sorry - did not read that you already try to do this. but anyway this is a problem - notification queue somehow hold this record which annoy you. you just have to find the way to clean it...
Same problem here, what I do was recover from a backup taken a day before the problem start. That solve it.
The problem start suddenly...
I try soft reset, turn the device off (remove the battery) and then turn it on again, also do the MemMaid 2.0 stuff with no positive results...
Sprite backup was my solution.
WM5 (factory rom, GPS enabled)
Default built-in clock, no alarm managers or any third party software.
Broken Alarm Clock
I have same problem on my Orange M700 (standard) and still do, even after a hard reset!? Excuse my possible lack of knowledge, but could this be just an issue with the registry? Or the original WM setup files?
Same problem on S300+. I don't want to make a hard reset.
Does anybody found a registry solution or something less violent ?
hmm.. maybe using alarm software ? that's helped me before.. instead performing HR of course..
That day i installed this software named Spedbooster by teksoft and the problem started. after a soft reset my device bacame extremely slow especially when browsing file via file explorer and the internet.. It was almost unusable....
many things i had tried to resolve this...but none had works. so i think i had to do a hard reset....so did anybody here know anyhow i can hard reset my blueaangel as my power button is damaged and no longer working... any software or resolution.. please help me..thanks..by the way i`m using wm 6.5 re7.1 by xplode
i would also say a hard reset is the best option.
you can try and perform a hard reset without the power button just reset, press camera+record and in the menu appearing set enable kitl NO, clear registry hive YES, format storage YES and confirm with the mail button. as long as you can access the menu, you are fine hard resetting without the power button. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueAngel_WM5_For_Beginners
or alternatively you can try using mtty.
i cannot confirm that this works, i have not tried it, i just copied that from -=this thread=-:
type task 32
and if you get a 'level=0'
then type task 28
then task 8

yess!!! it worked and my device is even faster than it ever before!!! thanks for the very-very useful tip!!
I just got my US version of hd2 a few days ago. I found it pretty buggy, but things got better if I do the soft reset. I did some searches on the forum and found a few programs that do that. But you have to manually click on it.
Say I want to reset my phone everyday at 3am. Is there a program that will automatically reset my phone at a specific time?
Thanks in advance.

I've been searching for a working task scheduler as well, that's what you need, just set the time, and the path to the file you want to run. But the one I downloaded simply doesn't work on the HD2.
Apparently, the only thing that works is downloading and installing mortscript, and have a script run on startup that calls a reset at a specified time. That way, right after a reset, you're sure it will reset again at the given time

Yes, I use a great program to automatically reset my phone during the night. It's incredibly small, and FREE.

Hello...
I have installed BSBTweaks 1.6 on my HD2, works great...
but then i recently tried adding apps to the rotated apps, and when it soft resets, the list isnt saved. I have read that this problem existed but was fixed in version 1.6
anyone else had similar problem, please guide me through, will be a great help...
thanks
PS: i tried adding office apps (word/excel) to the rotated apps list, that is what didnt work, i didnt try any other applications...
everyone...i am tired breaking my head with this for 2 days now...please help...
everything (version wise) looks fine with V 1.6 for bsbtweaks, also have framework 3.5 installed, but dont understand why the rotation isnt working...whenever i add an application to the rotation list, bsb asks for a soft reset and the application is still missing form the list when i recheck it...
please help...
hi, just had a quick google on this subject, and although i couldnt find anything specific i came across lots of posts saying it can sometimes take a short while for the registry changes to take, and if you reset immediately they can be lost, , , the upshot being to wait ten seconds or so before doing the reset (although ive never had any problems, and never heard of this delay before, so i think it very unlikely.)
Another thought that occured was try installing "CERegistry editor", run it, connect your phone, hit connection - connect and once you can see your registry, click 'tools - unlock registry'
Not sure whether its connected, but worth a try, eh?
Plus, if all else fails, you can use cereg editor to export the rotation white list key whilst you have bsb tweaks open and have applied teh rotation tweak, but before you reset, and make a cab from it, see if it works after being applied as a cab.

Thanks Sam...
I have tried waiting for a while before doing the soft reset...
I will try to uninstall the BSB Tweaks and reinstall to see if that makes any difference...if not i will have no other option but do the regedit manually...
thanks for the help though ..cheers...!
Solved
Finally able to identify the reason for why BSBTweaks was not letting me add apps to rotate...
I guess the soft reset offered by BSBTweaks was not allowing the registry entries to be saved...so i didnt choose that reset option and instead did a manual reset by the power button...and when the phone started back, it worked...
so just make sure that we should add apps to rotate and do a manual reset instead of BSBTweaks reset...
thanks
