Net Front , newbie needs help - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
I have installed the Net Front 3.3 Trial version for Pocket PC, WM5.
1) How do I set the default home page, say to File://\Windows\default.htm
2) My bookmarks under Windows/Favourites I dont see all that I have placed in a bookmark folder. For example
I see this short cut..
>> Windows/Favourites/Yahoo.ink
But I dont see these short cuts
>> Windows/Favourites/News/Reuters.ink
In WM5 pocket internet explorer I see all bookmarks in all my bookmark personal folders ?
Any ideas here ?

Programs running in background question
If I go into the memory settings / running programs it usually shows a list of about 5 programs still in use - this is AFTER I have pressed the X button on the screen - -I presumed that was how you closed the progs down .
Any ideas ?
Any ideas about the internet wap problem ??
Zinc, many programs only minimize when you press the cross, get a free program like pocketnav, this will let you close them properly.
Thanks !
Any ideas about my surfing problem ?
Any good WAP pages ?

How to set up a WiFi network?

Hi,
I have a WiFi Netgear DG834GT 108 Mbps Router. No problem with internet access...but I would like to share files with my PC. How can I do? What SW should I need on my JJ and hoe to set router and JJ both to get them work?
THX so much for any help!
the easiest way is to use something like Resco File Explorer, an advanced version of the bundled file exploroer in WM5.
It costs about 20 dollars i believe.
Once installed, map your network drive to your home network and it should see it and file transfer will then be possible, as long as your shared folders are correct etc, as per any network

Thx for your reply,
I just want to use Resco File Explorer plug in called "My Network"...but it doesn't map any drive. I also have tried to change JJ setting in "configure network Adapters/My network card connects to" from "the internet" to "Work", but coming back to RescoExpl. and trying to Map Drive option, it didn't find anything once again.
Please help me with config if you can.
THX a lot!
ok, you have resco file explorer, so open it up, hold your styli on the My Network tab on left, and select map drive. A new window will open as it searches for your home network/pc shared foler etc. if it fails to find it like that, check you 'Hive' PC's name and make sure you have a folder selected to Share. Try that and let me know. (PS make sure wifi is on first on both exec and router!)
Thank you very much I DID IT!
Well Done!!! Thats great glad to help, now enjoy streaming your music and videos to your exec whilst in the bath/garden/sofa!!
My good friend...
can you help me to let my JasJar print via WiFi??? In other words, is it possible to launch a print from JasJar via WiFi, by shareing my PC printer?
Am I asking too much?

Hey hey!
aha! The only way i have ever done it unfortunatley is through terminal services client. So, open say, a word document from either your server PC or on your pocket PC, and save back to the shared on your desktop on your server PC and then via Terminal Services remote desktop and open the doc from your JJ screen and send to print from you server PC!
Long winded I know, anyone else got a better solution?
Hope that helps!
Uhm..I still have not tried your solution...but do you think there is any third party software that can do it, simply shareing printer via WiFi?
ill have a look, never really had a need myself, but ill have a look around, might be a good thing! Ill post if i find anything ok
Ok, thx...I'll take a look around too. I thought it would be useful for example if you receive an email on jasjar and you should print it to have it like a document...without further steps, directly from JJ...
HP has printer drivers for PPC!
They even support some Canon printers..
uhm..I have found Print Pocket CE, but it doesn't support WM2005 Office files, and PrintBoy...but I don't' know if it is compatible...
Any suggestion?

Hotmail on Universal

Browser - Opera 8.5 beta
Device - Qtek 9000
Connection - GPRS T-mobile
Location - USA
For some reason, when using GPRS, going to hotmail, it takes me to msnmobile instead of the regular hotmail webpage despite using Opera.
Not only that, it doesn't take me to the mobile hotmail page, even after I log on.
Anybody knows a solution around it?
Tried searching for hotmail but nothing came up that provided me with the solution.
Actually Opera does not offer a user-configurable User-Agent to enable identification of Opera as IE6 so you are forced to mobile websites.
A work around which I did is as follows:-
1) Open your usual hotmail site on your windows xp computer.
2) When the site has fully opened the address bar on your windows xp web browser will look something like this (http://by20fd.bay20.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/hmhome? *******)
3) Copy and paste this entire address to a word document on your windows xp computer and save the word document.
4) Using active sync transfer this word document from your windows xp computer to your pocket pc and open with Word Mobile
5) Run Opera on your PPC and copy and paste the address from your word mobile document to the address bar in the opera window.
6) Press the go button and the website will display.
7 Now you can save the open website as one of your Favourites and this way you will not have to follow the entire procedure each time you want to go to the hotmail site.
It works for me and hope it does for you sas well.
Kind Regards
nope, still automatically redirects to mobile.msn.com
Really frustrating!
Okay go to the mobile MSN account as opera would take you. Then enter your username and password and log in. Also click the radio button for opera to remember both the username and password i.e. the uppermost radio button. Exit opera then retry the procedure in my above post.

try adding a new section to the opera.ini file in \Application Data\Opera :
[User Agent]
Spoof UserAgent ID=1
Full options are:
Opera = 1
Mozilla = 2
Internet Explorer = 3
Mozilla, no Opera mention = 4
Internet Explorer, no Opera mention = 5
Let me know

Thanks for the info
YES! It works. Changing the User Agent file does allow it to go to the regular hotmail webpage. Don't forget to soft reset.
FYI, I'm using the Opera 8.5 beta on my Qtek 9000.
Google.com still doesn't work on GPRS though. Works great when connected to PC via Activesync....just not through GPRS.
One other thing I need to mention also, after adding the User Agent to the ini file, the top bar where the address and all the icons are, have a background issue. The icons and the address bar all show up fine, but just the background is a little messed up. Nothing you can't live with.
Thanks again Aefelix.

Thx, will try that now...
I noticed something though, i normally use WAP over GPRS to browse, i tried it and it didn't work (copy hotmail link and paste it).
But then when i was hooked up via WIFI, it worked on PIE without changing any setting!
How could that be? :?
Jamps...
I've also noticed that when I use Wi-Fi, hotmail works just fine.
But please do try AeFelix's fix and see if it works for you too.
Hi Aefelix,
Tried modifying the Opera.ini by adding the User Agent section as advised.
Now it takes me to the regular hotmail login page and allows log in as well. But after log in none of the links such as Mail, Calendar, etc appear to work. So I cannot actually go beyond the page which appears after the log in is through.
Anybody else experienced this and any suggestions??
Kind Regards

WM5 and Desktop internet Favourites Short cuts

I have a heap of DESKTOP internet favourite short cuts, how do I get these into my jas jar internet favourites folder ?
Are they the same format, is it a simple cut and paste via Active sync explorer ???
Please advise and be specific for this newbie, thx
Pile them into the Mobile Favorites Folder on your Desktop. The next ActiveSync will send them to the PPC, that is, if you have favorites turned on in Active Sync.

Screen grab without ActiveSync

Hi guys and gals,
I need to create some screenshots of a few settings in the ActiveSync | Configure Server setup box. However, you can't access this menu while ActiveSync'd, and my screen grab program requires an ActiveSync connection
Is there any software that will take screen grabs and save them on the Pocket PC so I don't have to be connected by ActiveSync?
Many thanks,
Andy
Check the following thread for info on programs that allow you to take screen shots on your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=275930&highlight=screen+shots
I use XnView Pocket.
Many thanks for the link to the thread, was exactly what I was looking for but was unable to come up with that no matter what search string I tried
I knew Menneisyys wrote a thread on it a while ago, so I searched under his ID. He often puts up great reviews of software/freeware/games . . .
