Audible.com left ear only w/ A2DP - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I've had A2dp working for awhile with my 8125, but I'm having an issue with audible.com outputting stereo over a2dp. It only outputs to the left ear! If I cable it, it will be out of both ears (dual mono sound). It's really annoying, and I'd like to get dual mono sound out of both ears. Is there any way to get the OS to output mono sound out of both channels? I listen to a lot of audiobooks, and it would be really cool to listen to them over bluetooth. Thanks

For anyone that's curious (I suppose not many since there haven't been any replies) I was able to get this to work by downgrading to the older 4.0 version of the handheld and desktop software. On audible's website, just choose the 98/ME desktop software and choose pocket pc 2000 software. Its not the newest software, but I don't see a whole lot of difference and I get both channels over a2dp. Works great now!

I have reported this issue to their tech support. They claim to be unaware of the issue and immediately escalated it to their 3rd tier of tech support.

What'd the 3rd level support have to say? Anyone fixed this issue on the 8525? I've tried a bunch of the a2dp fixes but none have worked.

Hi, I know this is a very old post but if you still have the older version of Audible for the PPC can you send it to me. THanks.

audible is aware of the issue
in the Help section, Audible.com's site state that they are aware of the issue and are exploring options to fix it. They say it is because they compress the audioprograms in mono, and that some devices can't handle transferring the sound to both speakers.
I'll try the suggestion to downgrade to the older version. Thanks!

I already asked them a long time ago after hearing no sound at all, but they said A2DP was not supported. I use soundtaxi to convert it to mp3, so you can listen to it with a notmal player and have normal controls

I searched some of the other threads and saw where Pocketmusic (pocketmind.com) supported stereo bluetooth for audible format audiobooks. I downloaded the trial version and it works great with my motorola S9 headphones.
What I was hoping to find was a ROM that provided the same type of functionality. It seems to me that if a software vendor/package solves the problem it is a feature that could be built into a ROM package. It is beyond me (with my current knowledge level) design one, but was hoping somebody else had ... anybody out there know of one?

How I finally got A2DP to (mostly) work

Hey everyone, I've been posting on this board for a few days now trying desperately to make ADp work as it should on my Prophet. Well. after many failed attempts and sleepless nights, I finally got it to work, so I though i'd share the story for the benefit of others who might be having trouble with A2DP (and maybe get a few of my remaining questions answered).
For the record, i own a Qtek s200 with the latest Dopod ROM, and a Bluetake i-Phono Mini headset. Here's what I did:
- First i installed the widely available A2DP patch (along witth the DLLs and the reg settings).
- Then I paired it with the I-phono (in Bluetooth settings, choose hansdfree and wireless stereo mode)).
- After trying most music players out there, I finally settled on PocketMusic 4.25. The reason is that almost no player actually has AVRCP controls integrated yet, and the only one that does, WMP10, for some reason would not recognize the Play/Pause function of the Bluetake.
- Now, almost everything works: I can play, pause, FF, Rewind, lower and raise the volume from the headset. When a call comes, i can answer it through the headset and when i finish, the music resumes. If you only want to use the headset for music, disable the handsfree profile and answer the phone normally.
-As far as skipping goes, it's not so bad: the music skips maybe once every 15-20 minutes, so it's tolerable.
So, this is where I am so far. I'm pretty happy with it, thought there are a few things I thought would work that i still haven't figured out:
1. To initiate handsfree mode, all i have to do is click on the phone button of the headset, and immediately it switches from normal to handsfree. So far, so good. However, i haven't found how to do the same thing for music. Everytime I want to switch from listening to music on the phone itself to the headset, i have to go to Bluetooth>settings>devices>refresh>wireless stereo>save. It's very annoying, there should be a one-button way of doing this.
2. Sometimes, after I restart pocketmusic for example, the wireless stereo pairing will be lost and the sound goes "nowhere", meaning it doesnt even come out of the phone anymore. And even reestablishing the wireless stereo profile will not solve this, i have to soft reset and re-initiate the pairing.
3. Finally, I haven't found a way to easily go from handsfree to normal (the reverse of problem 1). It is also very cumbersome.
So, all in all, I'm pretty happy with how things work, and would defintiely recommend this combo, if you dont mind the few problems I've listed. As for those, unless someone has found a way to make these things work, I think the best solution would be for HTC to implement a Bluetooth headset quick menu in a future revision (sort of like what they have right now for Wifi/Push email/phone, only made specifically for bluetooth). I wouldnt mind if my phone had an extra button just for that.
My 2 cents...
Thanks for the information
Hi tdx, that was great information and I have it working on my Prophet (imate jamin). If you have found a solution to your final problem please let me know as I too am looking for this, but at the moment I am very happy with the way this all works (the i-phono mini headphones are great).
Cheers,
Winkie
Well. I made some headway since I posted this:
- Pocketmusic still works, and is still the best software for the Iphono Mini. But it's still eating up my resources.
- Pocket Player has come up with a beta version of their plyaer that sort of works, and is more user friendly. But, like WMP10, the play/pause button doesn't work, while it works in pocketmusic. Hopefully with the final release of their software, it will work completely, and I'll be able to switch to that.
- TCPMP, my favorite media player, doesn't support AVCRP, but they're supposedly coming up with a major (ie paying) release this month, soI'll keep my pinkies crossed and wait.
- Finally, regarding the pairing problem, I think it's due to the lack of an official support of ADP in the Prophet. Since other cellphone/headset combos work, and this one doesn't (you have to initiate it manually every single time), I guess it comes down to the Prophet's A2DP unofficial implementation not being good enough.
But i've given up on the idea that there will be an official ROM upgrade for the Prophet with A2DP. HTC has moved on to the TyTn, and, as usual, they'll make us buy their latest cellphone if we want A2DP. As much as i love them, sometimes they really, really bugger me...

Bluetooth + Jabra 620 + Audible = Left Channel Only?

When I play an .mp3 with Windows Media it plays in stereo (sounds crappy but that's another story) in my 620s, however .aa files (Audible books) with AudiblePlayer come out left channel only. I've tried tweaking the A2DP sound quality setting in the registry, specificly UseJointStereo, doesn't yeild much... anyone else using Audible?
Oh, and I'm on:
Cingular
English
ROM Version:1.34.502.1
ROM Date: 09/21/06
Radio version:1.16.00.00
Protocol version: 32.53.7018.01H
...come on guys, no one is using audible w/ bluetooth?
I use Audible and have the same problem you do... I've used the fit4cat utility to change the quality of BT A2DP but only get Audible content to left channel of my Sonorix stereo BT headset. If you get any insight on how to resolve this, please share...
Dan.
Something odd happened to me this morning... I had a stream playing with Windows Media and I stopped it, and switched over to Audible. Was listening to AudiblePlayer (in left channel only) when all of the sudden it went to both channels and then Windows Media AND AudiblePlayer were playing at the same time, both in stereo?!?!? ...so I know it's possible, now if I could just figure out how to activate it when only ONE source is playing, AudiblePlayer !
Anyone found a cure for this yet?
I am having the same problem on my Cingular 8125 with Logitech BT headphones. I can play WM player just fine in stereo, but Audible comes out left channel only. Just bumping this thread up to see if anyone has any clues yet.
I have an AT&T 8525, before that a Dell axim x51v, and have always experienced the same problem with my Motorola HT820 stereo headphones. I hopefully will have a resolution soon, I am on hold with a mouth-breather at audible.com customer service... To no avail, though. I spoke with 2 people there, and they both tried to tell me it was a hardware issue I explained to them both that there is no way it is a hardware issue if a third party software developer (Pocket Music Player) is able to offer the sound through both channels via bluetooth. They told me, and I quote "Audible doesn't care." and to paraphrase the rest, their (audible's)only concern is that it works on the device, not necessarily that it works through both speakers. The initial person I spoke with told me it appeared as though I had resolved the issue myself by using Pocket Music Player. He (the mouth-breather) failed to see my point of view that I SHOULDN'T have to buy third party software to get their (audible's) content to work correctly! Soooo, oh well, I guess my only choices are stop using audible, but there are no other sites to get the content from legally, or to spend the money on third party software.

Audio Booster with Bluetooth Headsets

This is a response from HTC:
Dear valued HTC customer, Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns. You recently wrote us about an issue that you have encountered with your device. To clarify your issue, you stated that you do not feel your question was answered. As previously stated, and to answer your question: The Audio booster was Never designed to work with Bluetooth headsets, there are no plans currently to change this functionality. If the above steps do not resolve your issue, we invite you to visit the support area on our Web site.
Damn, i just got myself a TDK-100 and was posed with the same issue (only i have a HTC Touch Diamond).
Hmm maybe there's a hack that can trick it into thinking there's a headset plugged in?
It's a hassel because all the 3rd party players i've tried (Pocket Music, PocketTunes, MortPlayer etc.) don't support A2DP [i think] properly (ie. controls on BT remote don't work).
The quality of the WMP w/ the audio booster is quite acceptable as it uses minimal system resources and the controls work.

There is a hack - you can set Audio Booster to be enabled regardless of the headset state in Advanced Config/HD Tweak, or by editing the registry.
The bad news, however, is that it doesn't work with BT audio anyway - guess different drivers are used.
Hack doesn't work properly
Even when you hack it, you can't use the Equalizer properly. Audio Booster will start but it will not work properly. I've tried this dozens times!
Must say there is one player that works very good with bluetoth and that is pocket player..http://www.conduits.com/products/player/ u can try it out
gotta wonder why they didnt design it to work with bt. pretty poor imo. i cant imagine its liike a radio which needs an antenna
Conduits Pocket Player on Touch HD with BT headsets
When trying to use Conduits PPlayer with my BT headsets I can use the remote to change the volume, but when I try to change to another song, TouchFLO3D gets the BT command, I mean, Pocket Player won't skip songs because my BT send the command to TouchFLO3D
This works in PocketPlayer with use of the WMplayer plugin. Have a search on the Conduits site (I use a set of SD9 with my Touch HD and can change tracks using the headset buttons)

Support AVRCP??

Does the magic support AVRCP ( controll music via bluetooth stereo headset ) , I know that it support A2DP.
Have made my search, but with no luck.
thakns all for your help.
That was a good question. I didn't think about that when I ordered my phone.
It says here (http://hackaday.com/2008/12/19/android-adds-a2dp-avrcp-bluetooth-and-more/) that Cupcake (The OS version 1.5 delivered with Magic) adds AVRCP amongst other things. Nothing conclusive though.
Yes, AVCRP is working very good. Reaction time is also much smaller than on my Diamond.
The implementation starts playing music even if you are playing music outside of the Android Music app. I wonder if there's a solution to mapping those buttons to what app is active

BT Audio for Android

Ok, I'm looking for some way to route the audio of my Magic to a mono BT headset. I have been searching the threads and Google for days now and unless I'm blind (come to think of it I've been called this before) I can't find any app for this purpose. I had a program called BT Audio for my WM phone that worked like a charm. Anyone got any ideas or up for the challenge to making an app let me know?
Android 1.5 introduced A2DP support, so all you should need to do is pair the device and fire up the music app (might be a couple more settings in between, but AFAIK it's a simple pairing job). So I'm wondering if your headset doesn't support A2DP and that WinMo app was channeling audio through the regular headset profile.

Your right my headset doesn't support A2DP (It's cheep ). I know it is possible though, cause sometimes when I am using an app or game with audio and someone calls in I hear the audio through the BT headset for a sec before the phone connects.
WinMo had a few different apps for this so I'm surprised that I haven't been able to find anything for android yet. I didn't think it would be that hard to do.
It could be that its built in to the ROM that I have and I just haven't found the settings for it yet. I'm using the My Hero ROM. If anyone knows Let me know.
Hi!
Once you pair your device (on my Cyan ROM anyway...) you can go into the BT settings, long select the device you just paired with, choose options and if it supports X feature on the BT profile (in this case, audio) then there will be a check box that you can click to enable that function/feature.
Other than that, you might have some luck searching the Market for an app similar to BT Audio. I used to have a Shadow and I know exactly what app you are talking about, all in all though I was less than impressed with the meager selection of apps I had available compared to what I have now; and definitely even the out-of-box experience is light years ahead of any WM experience. What I ended up doing instead was just grabbed a new Stereo BT headset and problem was solved There was one on http://www.woot.com a little while ago that I'm loving (LG BT250 I think?).
Good luck!

ive also been looking for this, cant find it either though

I wish I could . I didn't mean the one I have was cheap in the way of money cause it cost me $80. Cheap in that it was the cheapest of the headsets that I could get with voice recognition built in as I work and drive around a lot of noise. I didn't want to pay the $130 for the good one.
I wonder if there is anyone with the right skills out there that can write a app like this. hint hint.
I do appreciate all the work that goes into making these cool app that I use every day so if nothing shows up, I guess I'll have to live without.
Thanks guys!

Dunno, I think they just want to advertise the site in their sig...
I have a stereo Bluetooth headset (Plantronics 855) that works great with the Droid; however, there are times when I want to sent A2DP to my Jawbone Prime, which is not A2DP compatible. The profile only shows phone audio when selecting the device in the Android BT manager. What needs to happen to transmit full audio to a non-A2DP headset is enabling SCO (Synchronous Connection-Oriented) connection. I have searched everywhere I cannot find a software gateway that enables this feature in the Droid. There is an app in the market called Sound Route Switcher that claims to enable this but then blames Android for is application not working with Bluetooth.
I will keep looking and post anything that I find but I am stumped to this point.
Thanks dbigdawg
There's a little Greek in there for me, but I appreciate the effort and I'm sure many others will too. Look forward to what you can find.
Hate to bring back an OLD thread, but has there been a solution found?
Last I looked was back in April.........................Nothing
But like I said before I have been known to be blind to anything past the end of my nose!
I really miss being able to listen to music all day and not have on headphones.
Thanks for the reply bud. Maybe with some luck I can see if I can find that old file I had that was supposed to work, but didn't on 1.5. Now that I use 2.1, it might be a different situation. If I can locate it I'll post it here.
Hi, there is a new app named "Super BT Mono" which could route audio to bluetooth mono earpiece. It might be what you are looking for.
Thanks
Thanks for the info. That Super BT Mono did the trick for me.
