Bluetooth + Jabra 620 + Audible = Left Channel Only? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

When I play an .mp3 with Windows Media it plays in stereo (sounds crappy but that's another story) in my 620s, however .aa files (Audible books) with AudiblePlayer come out left channel only. I've tried tweaking the A2DP sound quality setting in the registry, specificly UseJointStereo, doesn't yeild much... anyone else using Audible?
Oh, and I'm on:
Cingular
English
ROM Version:1.34.502.1
ROM Date: 09/21/06
Radio version:1.16.00.00
Protocol version: 32.53.7018.01H

...come on guys, no one is using audible w/ bluetooth?

I use Audible and have the same problem you do... I've used the fit4cat utility to change the quality of BT A2DP but only get Audible content to left channel of my Sonorix stereo BT headset. If you get any insight on how to resolve this, please share...
Dan.

Something odd happened to me this morning... I had a stream playing with Windows Media and I stopped it, and switched over to Audible. Was listening to AudiblePlayer (in left channel only) when all of the sudden it went to both channels and then Windows Media AND AudiblePlayer were playing at the same time, both in stereo?!?!? ...so I know it's possible, now if I could just figure out how to activate it when only ONE source is playing, AudiblePlayer !

Anyone found a cure for this yet?
I am having the same problem on my Cingular 8125 with Logitech BT headphones. I can play WM player just fine in stereo, but Audible comes out left channel only. Just bumping this thread up to see if anyone has any clues yet.

I have an AT&T 8525, before that a Dell axim x51v, and have always experienced the same problem with my Motorola HT820 stereo headphones. I hopefully will have a resolution soon, I am on hold with a mouth-breather at audible.com customer service... To no avail, though. I spoke with 2 people there, and they both tried to tell me it was a hardware issue I explained to them both that there is no way it is a hardware issue if a third party software developer (Pocket Music Player) is able to offer the sound through both channels via bluetooth. They told me, and I quote "Audible doesn't care." and to paraphrase the rest, their (audible's)only concern is that it works on the device, not necessarily that it works through both speakers. The initial person I spoke with told me it appeared as though I had resolved the issue myself by using Pocket Music Player. He (the mouth-breather) failed to see my point of view that I SHOULDN'T have to buy third party software to get their (audible's) content to work correctly! Soooo, oh well, I guess my only choices are stop using audible, but there are no other sites to get the content from legally, or to spend the money on third party software.

Just a thought on Bluetooth

Maybe this a silly idea but I was wondering if it would be possible to simply redirect the sound going to the speaker, when we play MP3, to go to the bluetooth headset by adjusting a parameter in the registry.
Let me explain my rationale. I recently installed a bluetooth toggle on my pc and paired it to my Jabra 258. I started the media player and was expecting mono sounds to come out of my earpiece. Of course nothing happened until I went to the options in the media player to send the sound to my bluetooth device instead of the sound card and voila I got sound.
Now of course no such option exists on the mobile media player but perhaps there is a registry setting that can be adjusted to send to the bluetooth instead of using the internal speaker.
I realise that this would be then hard coded and to play back to the speaker would mean adjusting the parameter in the registry but its better than nothing. I also realise that it would not solve our headset issue but having read through all the forums with regards to widcomm, bluesoil etc the embedded BT stack still has not been overcome.
I also undertsand the need for an audio gateway stack but from a laymans point of view it does sound simple.
I love my O2 XDA II mini that has been transformed into QTEK, I-Mate and then Anasky and half the fun is playing with the rom and the machine to get the best out of it. I don't really care much for WM 2005 but if some bluetooth issues can be resolved then its the perfect machine for me (apart from the camera).
Heres Hoping
Best regards to all and keep up the good work

Audible.com left ear only w/ A2DP

I've had A2dp working for awhile with my 8125, but I'm having an issue with audible.com outputting stereo over a2dp. It only outputs to the left ear! If I cable it, it will be out of both ears (dual mono sound). It's really annoying, and I'd like to get dual mono sound out of both ears. Is there any way to get the OS to output mono sound out of both channels? I listen to a lot of audiobooks, and it would be really cool to listen to them over bluetooth. Thanks
For anyone that's curious (I suppose not many since there haven't been any replies) I was able to get this to work by downgrading to the older 4.0 version of the handheld and desktop software. On audible's website, just choose the 98/ME desktop software and choose pocket pc 2000 software. Its not the newest software, but I don't see a whole lot of difference and I get both channels over a2dp. Works great now!
I have reported this issue to their tech support. They claim to be unaware of the issue and immediately escalated it to their 3rd tier of tech support.
What'd the 3rd level support have to say? Anyone fixed this issue on the 8525? I've tried a bunch of the a2dp fixes but none have worked.

Hi, I know this is a very old post but if you still have the older version of Audible for the PPC can you send it to me. THanks.
audible is aware of the issue
in the Help section, Audible.com's site state that they are aware of the issue and are exploring options to fix it. They say it is because they compress the audioprograms in mono, and that some devices can't handle transferring the sound to both speakers.
I'll try the suggestion to downgrade to the older version. Thanks!
I already asked them a long time ago after hearing no sound at all, but they said A2DP was not supported. I use soundtaxi to convert it to mp3, so you can listen to it with a notmal player and have normal controls
I searched some of the other threads and saw where Pocketmusic (pocketmind.com) supported stereo bluetooth for audible format audiobooks. I downloaded the trial version and it works great with my motorola S9 headphones.
What I was hoping to find was a ROM that provided the same type of functionality. It seems to me that if a software vendor/package solves the problem it is a feature that could be built into a ROM package. It is beyond me (with my current knowledge level) design one, but was hoping somebody else had ... anybody out there know of one?

Wireless Stereo problem on 8125?

Hey, humans!
After searching through the forums for a couple of days, I thought I would go ahead and post to ask if anyone has a fix for the following problem...
I recently purchased the Jabra BT 620s stereo Bluetooth headphones, tapped the A2DP cabs, and got wireless stereo working (along with all of the buttons and the mic) right away.
Unfortunately, every time I turn off the headphones and reconnect them, they connect to the phone as "Hands-Free" only. In this state, I can use the answer/call/play/pause/etc. buttons and the mic, but audio is delivered through the 8125's speakers and not the headset. To fix it, I have to open the BT settings, click on the Jabra phones, Refresh (because it still says that the set is connected as "Hands-Free" and "Wireless Stereo"), and reactivate "Wireless Stereo" every time I want to listen to music.
Is there any trick/registry tweak that could help me bypass this extra step? Oh, and does anyone know of a media player that doesn't hog my resources like WMP, uses AVRCP, and can play streams?
Thanks in advance!
In response to my own (2nd) question...I've read that TCPMP respondes to AVRCP commands.
Does anyone know how to get them to work with the Jabra BT 620s headphones?
I'm continuing to look for a solution to my problem and find an alternative to WMP10, which sucks up so much memory.
I have finally managed to get Pocket Player 2.72 (http://www.conduits.com/products/player/download.asp) working with AVRCP. Although it is supposed to work right out of the box, I tried using it and received no feedback from the Jabra BT 620s's buttons.
While looking for a WMP today plugin -- one that I had hoped would have a smaller footprint while still allowing AVRCP controls to function -- I came across a post and eventually found a .dll for Pocket Player that allows me to use my Jabra's controls to influence the player.
Unfortunately, Pocket Player is a woefully bad player (even worse than WMP10 in my opinion!) and I can't get much use out of it because it “skips” constantly and forces the screen back on (it doesn't automatically shut off again) with every command from the headphones. However, for everyone who prefers PP and can't get Bluetooth to work through it, trying downloading this rar file (http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=19163), unrar'ing it, and placing the enclosed .dll in your Pocket Player directory.
I personally really like pocket player, but you need to wait for v2.73 out soon apparently. If you go to conduits forum you can see alot of info on this issue.
I find it plays beautifully thru iTech Clip R35 (I admit I have a different device ie jamin).
But to your first point, I still have that problem as well, I have to manually switch on the bluetooth stereo option, I haven't found a solution for that yet.
cheers

Hi, I just bought the BT-620s and have exactly the same problem you have mentioned, otherwise a great BT headset.
Did you ever manage to find a fix for this problem?

Low sound quality with 6700 and Moto HT820 headset

Hi All,
I am new to the forum. I have owned a PDA phone for about a month, a Verizon (HTC/Apache/UT Starcomm/Audiovox) XV6700. It was rebadged so many times, I have no idea who really made it.
I read about A2DP Bluetooth technology. I also read reviews of several headsets before purchasing the Motorola HT820 headset.
I loaded up a two-gigabyte mini-SD card with mp3 files, popped it in, paired the headset to the phone and engaged Windows Media Player.
Unfortunately, the sound quality is horrible. It sounds as if I am listening to music played over the phone, as if I am on hold with some customer service call center. I know the headphones are capable of much more because they come with a stereo mini-plug cable. When I plug them into the audio output on my laptop, the headphones come alive with decent sound quality.
I did not modify my registry or add .cab or .dll files. When I paired the headset with the XV 6700, I just checked the "hands free," "wireless stereo," and "headset" options.
Am I missing something or is this the sound quality I can expect from this technology?

Make sure you have the new ROM update for the Verizon VX, and install the Tornado cabs and dll files.
A2dp on xv6700
I have updated my rom, made the Tornado changes, made other reg changes as described in this and related forums - all to no avail. Stereo Sound is constantly clipping. Phone sound is ok.
What else can I try
Feel free to email me direct.
You may want to try another player, like pocket player. Or try another BT stereo headset. If that dosn't work you may want to try getting your device swapped out with a new one. I can't get it to work on my PPC6700, but am waiting for a fix of the EVDO/ring through problem with newer units before I try to swap mine out.
xv6700 a2DP lag
I have already tried the pocket player - no difference. I am also on my second headphone set (albeit from the same vendor).
Unfortunately Verizon will not swap out because an unsupported feature does not work. At least that is what they told me.
Don't worry you are not the only one that can't get it to work.
The bluetooth on the 6700 is not very good, so YMMV when it comes to A2DP. It is a unsupported feature, you may need to convince them the BT is bad, but don't mention the A2DP.
I am waiting for a fix of the EV-DO ring through problem on the shipped PPC6700 with the new ROM before I have Sprint look at mine.
XV6700 A2DP lag problem.
Unfortunately without A2DP "enabled", the bluetooth connection seems to work just fine.
BTW: What is the EV-DO ring through problem?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=58050
It dosn't apply to Verizon VX6700, just the Sprint PPC6700.
Low sound quality with 6700 and Moto HT820 headset / A2DP
I am new to posting, be kind please. I have spent a lot of time and research on this problem and I am having some luck and some other problems that there may be some great info on. I do have the latest firmware from UTStarcom (Verizon model) which has AKU 2.0 update. I did install the tornado A2DP I found here and it did not work at first until I found the additional Tor_A2DP_cert.cab file and installed it. It works and seems to be stable, including headset operations. The only problem is sound quality. There is a ringing like high pitched digital noise, my experience in electronics would have me thinking of a bandwidth limitation, or timing issue that would be a result of process priority or something, just guessing! I have the Plantronics 590a stereo headset that sounds great when using the BT with my laptop, so I beleive it is with the phone. The big question, has anyone tried changing the registry settings concerning bluetooth? I see some entries here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\BTAGSVC and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\BTHIDSVC don't know what they are or what they would do, not brave enough to change them.

I have two BT Stereo headset, 2 different A2DP devices, BT laptop, and a BT dongle and get different results with different combinations.
- Southwing SA505 Bluetooth Stereo Headset (works great with everything, questionable manufacture quality, broke after 3 months of use)
- Moto HT820 Bluetooth Stereo Headset (good quality, but BT functions & sound is problematic)
- Cing 8125 (running Faria Crossbow WM6)
- LG enV VX9900 (vanilla os)
I believe it is just a simple case of both Bluetooth software of your device and headset not getting along together.
The SA505 works perfectly and sound quality is awesome with all A2DP & BT remote devices (including both devices, BT laptop, and a cheap generic usb BT dongle installed on my desktop)
The Motorola HT820 on the other hand is quirky...
Paired to the 8125 - when listening to music, sound breaks briefly (for 0.5 - 1.5 secs) randomly every 30-60 secs. Everything else is fine including sound quality.
Paired to the vx9900 - it unpairs when getting a incoming call & I have to manually pair it back up. Everything else works fine including outgoing calls. Good sound.
Paired to laptop or BT dongle - works perfectly.
in short the only thing that could be done is on the handset side by changing the BT stack or rom.
hope this helps.
Just try MSI Blue Player, this is the only PLAYER which post a high quality sound to my bluetooth ear piece.
VX6700 and Bluetooth
Just as a friendly note, I had the Verizon VX6700 until last week. I had tried numerous bluetooth headsets with it and all seemed sub-par or totally unacceptable. The last one I tried was the Southwing SA505 and was, to say the least, displeased with the sound quality. I shelved all my bluetooth headphones and continued using the Motorola H700 earpiece for phone use only even though it was hard to hear in noisy environments, but was the lesser of all evils. Last week, I was available for upgrade from Verizon and got the LG Chocolate, took it home and put some music on it and used the plug in style headphones for the first day. After getting sore ears from the round-stuff-them-in-your-ear-hole type headphones, I decided to try the Bluetooth headphones again for the mere humor of having spent over $200 on the lot of them. The Southwing SA505 sounded phenomenal on the Chocolate. I then tried talking to my wife driving down the road with the windows rolled down and going 65 MPH, which had always been a problem before. She actually sounded like she was right next to me in crystal clear stereo (which if you have been married 21 years as I have, then you understand what a scary thought that is). I don't think the problem you are having is the headset but rather the phone and unfortunately I have no answer how to fix it, but hopefully have steered you in the right direction of where the problem lies. Good luck to you.

Audio Booster with Bluetooth Headsets

This is a response from HTC:
Dear valued HTC customer, Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns. You recently wrote us about an issue that you have encountered with your device. To clarify your issue, you stated that you do not feel your question was answered. As previously stated, and to answer your question: The Audio booster was Never designed to work with Bluetooth headsets, there are no plans currently to change this functionality. If the above steps do not resolve your issue, we invite you to visit the support area on our Web site.
Damn, i just got myself a TDK-100 and was posed with the same issue (only i have a HTC Touch Diamond).
Hmm maybe there's a hack that can trick it into thinking there's a headset plugged in?
It's a hassel because all the 3rd party players i've tried (Pocket Music, PocketTunes, MortPlayer etc.) don't support A2DP [i think] properly (ie. controls on BT remote don't work).
The quality of the WMP w/ the audio booster is quite acceptable as it uses minimal system resources and the controls work.

There is a hack - you can set Audio Booster to be enabled regardless of the headset state in Advanced Config/HD Tweak, or by editing the registry.
The bad news, however, is that it doesn't work with BT audio anyway - guess different drivers are used.
Hack doesn't work properly
Even when you hack it, you can't use the Equalizer properly. Audio Booster will start but it will not work properly. I've tried this dozens times!
Must say there is one player that works very good with bluetoth and that is pocket player..http://www.conduits.com/products/player/ u can try it out
gotta wonder why they didnt design it to work with bt. pretty poor imo. i cant imagine its liike a radio which needs an antenna
Conduits Pocket Player on Touch HD with BT headsets
When trying to use Conduits PPlayer with my BT headsets I can use the remote to change the volume, but when I try to change to another song, TouchFLO3D gets the BT command, I mean, Pocket Player won't skip songs because my BT send the command to TouchFLO3D
This works in PocketPlayer with use of the WMplayer plugin. Have a search on the Conduits site (I use a set of SD9 with my Touch HD and can change tracks using the headset buttons)
