+ 1. IMO it's much better.

What distance does the infrared beam work? I once had a Ipaq 2210 which had a stronger infrared beam so it could work over more than 5 meters distance.

very bad...only works at 1-2 meters. anyone how to "upgrade" the beam?

I've recently upgraded to qtek 9100, and got a distance of 6 meters with Noviiremote. Maybe it's larger, but I have a wall against my back.
But you have to point at the TV.

MDA Pro (HTC Universal) is here...

Hi all
Since yesterday I own an MDA Pro, bought by my friend in Germany (Thanks!!)
Please be aware: This device is in german AND it has a SIM-LOCK!!
For the rest the device really rocks... some few things are not perfect but the device itself is
Sven
Hi Dumdidum,
Congratulations on your new acquisition. I am sure you are enjoying every bit of it, and you should
Firstly, could you explain a little more about the things that you found to be a problem on the device? What did you think was not perfect?
Secondly, could you tell us something about the Bluetooth Stack of the device? Is there a Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP)? Can you voice dial using a BT headset? There is a small button the MDA Pro called "voice control". Is it only for voice recroding or are there any other voice related functions you can use it for?
Thirdly, how comfortable is it to use as a regular phone in comparison to the T-Mobile MDA III. Is there a gross difference or a minimal difference?
Lastly, When can we expect to see a "first impression" mini-review from you. Also, if you could post some pictures of your device including the packaging, we would be very grateful.
Best Regards,
Docc.
Also interesting would be:
is there USB-Host Support
does the WLAN Support WPA (AES)
Video Resolution
Hi Dumdidum,
I'm very interesting to know the video resolution that Universal can take. And can it use like a normal USB drive through its USB port? And, is the text are too small to read on Internet Explorer with 640x480 resolution?
To: Dumdidum
Fm: Mark
Congratulations to you getting the MDA Pro. I want to get the Universal even I slept to make a dream. Can you post the photo and comments in this forum?
Thanks!

Can you listen music or use voice dialing with bluetooth headset?
Can you dump the ROM with this tool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=22861 or this test program - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=22861&start=75#149665 and share it with us?

Hi mamaich,
I tried both tools on my MDA Pro.
grab_it : Claims that it cannot create the file.
Testdump : starts, but after a while locks up the device. Process bar is about the half...it created a dump file with about 57,8 MB...

Yep..should have found out that by myself
Anyway..good news for those who bought their device from T-Mobile in germany: T-Mobile will give out the unlock code for free to all people who bought it without a contract (749€). I just phoned the simlock-hotline and the woman said that she will send me my unlock code via email soon (next 2-3 days).
Can't wait..still debugging...
hope this helps somehow

Gps bluetooth hack, could someone help me?

I was trawling through the posts today looking for any info on whether i could use my gps and a bluetooth headset at the same time, and i found somebody mentioning an AUDIO REDIRECTION HACK which enables you to receive your gps directions through your headset, but he couldn't remember where it was. I've spent 3 hours tonight searching, but no luck. Could anybody give me a link or anything, Thank-you.
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand
Change LaunchAPEnable to 0
dah54....Thank-you!
dah54, thanks for your prompt reply, will this not alter anything else apart from allow me to hear my tomtom directions through my bluetooth headset?
Well basically as I understand it you can have a choice, either voice dial, or the ability to listen to everything through the headset, not both I believe. So you'll not be able to use voice dial, sorry.
Typical 'forward thinking' on someones behalf there! - it seem to be a common issue with BT: the hardware is there, the protocols are there - the software however appears to limit everything

Looks like my initial post was wrong. I have done the following with Voice Speed Dial and Media Player.
I do not have TomTom to try this on, but you may want to try the following.
Start (menu) | Settings | Voice Speed Dial (icon) | Application (tab) | You should find TomTom listed here, scroll down until you find it and highlight it. Tap the red record button and record a voice tag for TomTom.
Now in theory you should be able to launch Voice Speed Dial from your headset as always. Say "TomTom" and Voice Speed dial will launch with your headset connected to it. Note you may need to push the pause/start button to get audio.

Thanks thout
six meters for me on the same air line of irda led of my TV i can't try more
Not getting anywhere near to six meters. Not even getting a metre. Useless really.
Edit : You have to be dead in line with the IR on the TV and yes you can get a reaction from further away. Still very poor though. Would be quicker to get the tv button than piss about with this.
as the most of PDA, wizard doesn't have a CIR chipset for IrDA and the type of led is different shape so u must have a good air line with consumer device to work... but if you have seem work enogh well at least on mine... i tried it on two TV and works good
It does work on the MDA; got an email from Novii over the weekend with the new version; however as noticed above, range is good if you are precisely aligned with the receiver ...
I am thinking about getting a tripod for my MDA so I can line it up with my TV or maybe attach a laser sight to the MDA ;-) (just kidding)
Really, i find it almost impossible to line it up from across the room. Otherwise, it works great
I find hitting the button and then blowing hard towards my tv helps the beam get there.

works nicely for me...
tv respsonds better if you hold the button down on the screen..
it worked for me, and the TV in the bedroom....however i got about 1.5m range from it...so I may as well change chanels by hand...
nice app though.
I am getting a good 5+ meters no problems. I might have to by this, just a real shame you cant use custom graphics.
it won't let me open the program as I have already exceeded my 10 day trial ??
I did install a prev version but obviously that didn't work with the wizard
how do i reset my device so I can test this one for 10 days and check out what range I'll get
yea you have to be dead in line in order for it to work...but when it does work its PERFECT ...almost a replacement but...like i said the IR needs to be dead in line

Wireless Stereo Switch (or other solution)

Once my Bluetooth Headset is connected to my Prophet, all my notification sounds come through my Bluetooth Headset instead of the phone speaker.
The sound for normal incoming call works as it should though (through the speaker).
The only way i've found how to solve this problem, is to uncheck the "Wireless Stereo" option under:
Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > i.Tech Clip R35 > Partnership Settings
And then when I want to listen to music through the Windows Media Player, I have to do the opposit.
So, my two questions...
1. Is there a way to map notification sounds to always use the phone's speaker? (or)
2. Is there a small shortcut / Today-plugin that can switch "Wireless Stereo" on/off in one click?
Cheers!
Eric
Yes there is, i use a software called BTAudioToggle, you can place a shortcur to a launchbar in the today plugin, it works fine for me...

Thanks Hybrid, unfortunatly this was a bit wrong...
It seems that this program routed the sounds to the Bluetooth Headset if I wouldn't have "Wireless Stereo".
Hence; it had its functionality when I turned off "Wireless Stereo".
The solution was in the right direction though, but not really right...
BIG note though: It messed up the sound on my normal "Wireless Stereo" mode. So the sound now has a distortion as well.
Ehm but i remember there a software which did the same like btaudio with stereo headsets, but this one costs money. You just have to google, cause i dont remember the name

I found one called BlueMusic: http://www.teksoftbluemusic.com
Could that be the one you're refering to?
BlueMusic unfortunatly got about 99 functions that are more or less useless, packaged in a big memory overhead with nice graphics.
I just wanted the simple on/off switch...
ADD:
I'm running WM6, that's probably why most of BlueMusic's feature are superfluous.
My father got an Aus P535; when he uses the bluetooth headset, an icon is displayed on top, near "start": by clicking that icon, it is possible to redirect or not notification sounds to the headset... I didn't try that on the prophet, but I hope this can help you. bye
@overone: Hang in there...I'm trying to create a solution for one-click wireless stereo on/off..Will let you know as soon as I'm done...
Guys, been trying out a few things on mine AMEO qith BT8010's, it would appear that two reg entries are modified when turning on/off wireless audio.
I have attahced two reg export files bton.txt for audio on and btoff.txt for audio off.
if you look at lines 23 and 61 these are the values the executable will need to toggle. I dont have enough knowledge to code it up but if you know how to by all means give it a try.

Oki.
I just ment that I don't know how to help you, since I don't write/read that lingo/api's...
I found an open .NET class in C# that could query the Bluetooth interface.
Unfortunatly, it only seem to have a "getService" and not a "setService".
I am very interested in this solution for the hermes. I linked this thread to the hermes forum.
Thanks for looking into this.

gps to laptop

hello everybody this is my first post on this site. I was just wondering is there a program that sends the gps signal to a laptop on the ppc. I have a sprint mogul 6800. Just curious.
does anyone have Animated today key
http://users.skynet.be/hofinger/GPS2Blue.html
thanks is there a wired version minus the bluetooth?
Check this out:
Here
now is there a program that is compatible with this gps2blue or any I was searching for a free gps program so I can do realtime gps on a laptop and use my ppc as the modem
here
http://gpsgate.com/index.php?id=73
it's an excellent gps tool that I use tho its not free but you can try.
In GpsGate you can set the port to your builtin gps for input and set it to output via usb cable/bluetooth/online/ etc.
haha funny i just finish downloading it gonna give it a try
