BT in Wizard (details, q&a) - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi to everyone online.
Frankly speaking the Bluetooth realization in Wizard seems to be full of questions. :?:
I would be very thankful if someone could clarify the following:
1. According to the I-mate site (http://www.clubimate.com/t-DETAILS_KJAM.aspx) Wizard’s BT class is 2. Is it possible to upgrade it to class 1 (registry, patch, etc.)? (I’ve got a BT dongle from Canyon which is class 1 and it could be very convenient to use BT at a range of up to 100 m)
2. Is it possible to check which profiles are supported by the BT stack in my Wizard? The one’s supported for sure are: headset, activesync, serial port. But the one I’m interested in is PAN.
3. Where is it possible to obtain the best all-in-one BT stack for PDA? From Broadcom for example.
This thread (http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/id,14572/catid,26/) is very interesting, but seems that the developer will finish his soft by the end of century…
I will also appreciate any useful information from you.

Um, I think the classes of BT are 1, 1.x then 2 with 2 being the highest class at present. Going to class 1 would be a downgrade...
There is no alternative to the Microsoft stack at present on the Wizard (There was a thread on using the Widcomm 1.500 stack but no-one could get it to work). You can add A2DP / AVRCP to the Wizard via the zoA2DP.cab but I am unsure about PAN (Not sure what PAN is to be honest!)

Seems that there is a little confusion with the terms.
Please note that 'class' is the clas of power consumption. There are 3 classes available at the moment:
Class Power(mW) Power(dBm) Range(approximate)
Class 1 100 mW 20 dBm ~100 meters
Class 2 2.5 mW 4 dBm ~10 meters
Class 3 1 mW 0 dBm ~10cm (1 meter max)
And the things you are talking about are BT versions/specifications. For the moment the following versions are developed:
1.0 and 1.0B
1.1
1.2
2.0.
In this case you are right - v2.0 is the newest and prefferable (supports speeds of up to 2.1 Mbit/s, lower power consumption, etc.
According to the wiki.xda-developers (comparison table of all WM based devices) - Wizard supports BT v2.0. But I'm very doubt about that, as the speed of file transfer from my PC to PDA showed much less speed... (though the BT dongle is v2.0 and class 1)

I would have thought that the hardware implementation was fixed as far as the class was concerned (Thought it unlikely that they would have implemented a class 1 device and restricted the power output via a register in the hardware ... though maybe they have). Hence the reason I thought you were on about the version of BT whose versioning goes the other way (Higher number is better)!
Ah well...
I know initially there was a lot of confusion about the Wizard being a v2.0 or Class 2 device and I have my doubts with the version being 2.0 as well. The speeds just don't seem to be up there.
I would also like to tweak the class of the device if it is possible as without an exchange server at home I can no longer sync wirelessly throughout the house with WiFi, a change of BT class would allow me to do that via BT.

change BT from class 2--> class 1? so distance is 100m

hello,
i just bought a usb dongle class 1, with a capabilty of bonding over 100 meter. But as i have found on this forum the XDA II has only class 2 which only goes 10 meters. Is there a possibility to change the one on the XDA II to become a class 2? is it software-dependant? or is it in the hardware, and there's nothing to do about it? (hope there is!).
thanks for your help.
i would very much asume that the class 1 dont send with as many watt as class 2
and i would almost surdenly asume that no software setting would be able to change this
maybe some bluetooth repeater could be able to if it were within 10m of the xda2 would repeat the bluetooth signal and making it stronger giving it a wider range
i fear i have to tell you that the operating class of bluetooth devices is defined by the hardware used. maybe there are solutions on the market which are class1 (100meters) allowing to set back to class2 for energy saving reasons or something else. but the other way round it would not work because the sending energy has to be significantly increased, which means more power consumption and that is not what we want to have in mobile devices. operating time of ppc's is much too short at all :-(

peter
well,
thanks for your replies.

The HTC Wizard has Bluetooth version 2.0...!

Yep - not 1.1 or 1.2 - it is the first PDA, and one of the first devices full stop, that has the brand spanking up-to-date version 2.0 of Bluetooth.
If you don't know - BT 2.0 is 3 to 10 times faster (3 - 10 Mbps), uses less power, has no lag when connecting multiple devices and is backwardly compatible with BT 1.0 - 1.2 (proper and smaller stereo headsets will be one advantage of this).
See here for the evidence (from the Bluetooth Qualification website): http://qualweb.bluetooth.org/Templa...=QualifiedProducts&Details=Yes&ProductID=2740
Excellent, good find!
Says BlueTooth 1.2 here: http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2638
Spoke to I-mate today , they confirm bluetooth 2.0 with Wid instead of Microsft Stack. They also mentioned 3g on the wizard. I guess they ment EDGE.
Oh I really hope it is the Widcomm stack.
Hrm.. annoyingly this says Bluetooth 1.2: http://www.qtek.fi/qtek9100.htm ... though their site says it has a 2.1MP camera in the spec even though the picture says 1.3MP
I can't understand how so many different sites all get the spec wrong and are confusing the consumer. HTC should sort their act out and accurately inform their reseller chain of the correct specs.
so,does bluetooth 2.0(if it really is,not 1.2) means a bluetooth range up to 100 meters?
RAGO
Just to clarify, if you visit http://www.my-xda.com/xdaminis_spec.html O2 themselves say this comes with Bluetooth 2.0

Um... no, it doesn't... sorry... the BT support is lame on the qtek and the range is worthless.

No it isn't. can you please check before you say wrong things? from wikipedia:

Bluetooth 2.0
This version is backwards compatible with 1.x. The main enhancement is the introduction of Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) of 2.1 Mbit/s. This has the following effects (Bluetooth SIG, 2004):
* 3 times faster transmission speed (up to 10 times in certain cases).
* Lower power consumption through reduced duty cycle.
* Simplification of multi-link scenarios due to more available bandwidth.
* Further improved BER (Bit error rate) performance.

A few comments:
if the chip in the device does not support EDR then it is no better than simple BT v1.2
It might say v2.0 on the box, but if it is not WITH EDR then there is no real advantage over v1.2
I am getting speeds ~50KBytes/sec... anyone can give their speeds?[/url]

XDA mini S Bluetooth range

I've bought a BT dongle from Argos today - their 'own brand' model.
It's supposed to have a 100m range, but I can't get my XDA mini s to connect to it once I seem to move about 6-8 metres away.
I've got the PC in an upstairs room at the front of the house, but when I move to a downstairs room at the back, I lose the connection or ability to connect....
Is it down to the BT radio in the XDA having a 10m range, or should I get a better dongle?
Si.
Just to confuse everyone there are different "classes" of bluetooth version 1 devices. Class 1 devices have 100M range but only when communicating to another Class 1 device. The Wizard is bluetooth 1.2 but only class 2 hence the reduced range or about 10M. Those ranges are optimistic anyway, perhaps if you were in a field with no other interference.....
I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software limit on the bluetooth class in the Wizard - there's a chance that class 1 can be unlocked in the same way as people have unlocked 802.11g wireless networking.... although I doubt it.
Bluetooth 2.0 is available now but I don't know what range limits it has or how backwards compatible it is.

Has anyone got a dongle that does A2DP and AVRCP?

Hola,
I want to enjoy my Motorola HT-820 bluetooth headphones with my PC.
I have an old Bluetooth 1.1 dongle (10m range) and the best it can do for my PC is give me a low quality audio link with the earphones.
I bought one on ebay that gave a high quality link, allowed me to use the AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile) to control the tracks playing. I had to return that one 'cos the seller advertised it as a 2.0 dongle when it was only a 1.2. it runs on Bluesoeil software.
I bought the Belkin "Bluetooth™ USB Adapter - 100 metres Part # F8T012uk " from Currys. First of all, the AVRCP didn't work so I couldn't rewind or skip tracks from a distance. It runs on Widcomm software.
Secondly, even though it's supposed to have a 100m range, I was getting skipping at less than 10m. My 10m dongle gives better performance than this 100m one.
Has anyone found a good dongle that works with your PC? Preferably Widcomm.
I think this will do it
http://motorola.digitalriver.com/se...e&SiteID=motostor&productID=38603100&Env=BASE
The range of the link is also dependant on the receiver, since it has to acknowledge the bluetooth packets. A 100 m dongle (Class A) therefore won't reach 100 m with a 10 m headphone (Class B - almost all portable devices have this class, therefore Class A dongles don't really help with the distance).

It's class 1 and 2, not A and B.
The range doesn't really matter to me as my headphones are 10m and I expect to be within 10m of my PC when I use them.
As the matter of fact BlueSoleil dongle can work with Widcomm BT drivers - strange is that same chip and same hardware can work with difrent drivers oferring difrent BT profiles (just like with magician MS and Bluesoleil BT stock). I think that problem lies not in hardware and U should try to find some software solution for UR problems. Fact is that profiles are not dependent from BT version and AFAIK BT 1.2 can work well with UR headphones - IMHO those BT versions differs just with noise reduction algorithm, some radio transfer improvements and reduction of interferences with WiFi 2,4 Ghz signal.
Tommorow I'll get hands on my new stereo BT headphones and I'll check the problem.

My headset didn't arrived today As soon as i get it i'll check if it works with Widcomm drivers.
To install widcomm U need to patch it or U can use drivers adopted by logitech for it's MX 900 BT mouse - those drivers doesn't need to be patched AFAIK.
Bluetooth dongle
Hey all,
27 i like the Motorola dongle you linked but will it support active sync via bluetooth?
If not does anyone know of a dongle that will support all profiles?
If it's just software required where can i download drivers to increase bluetooth abilitly?
Thanks in advance

I have that exact Bluetooth dongle.
I have it working with the Widcomm stack (4.0.1.700 though) using the following steps.
Basically all you do is:
0. Uninstall all your bluetooth software. Unplug the Dongle for this step
1. Download Widcomm 4.0.1.700 from here: http://www.mobidick.biz/downloads.shtml
2. Download Billyx's Patches from here: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=179871
3. SP2 Users: (i dont know if this step does anything, but i read somewhere to do it, and it everything worked for me. Though it might work if you skip this step)
Go to Start -> Run ->write "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter. Go to the services tab and uncheck Bluetooth Service. Then hit OK. You might wanna restart, i think i did step 4 before doing that though.
4. Install Widcomm. Make sure the Dongle is plugged in it should recognise the dongle and it began installing the issc drivers. Restart PC
(at this point widcomm should be blue and red, and asking for the dreadful license.)
5. Restart PC in Safe Mode. Use Billyx's patch to overwrite the files in C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software using the 2 .EXEs
and files in C:\WINDOWS\system32 using the .DLLs
6. Restart, and bluetooth should now be blue and white.
7. Connect your devices. Begin using them
You're done!!
I searched for ages for this as both dongles I had used bluesoleil and I wanted to use salling clicker (brilliant program) to control audio/video and it only supports widcomm/windows BT stacks. I know have both working perfectly using the Widcomm stack (although I haven't used A2DP)

The only reson I don't use wm5/wm6 is BT stereo SKIPPING~

When I use the A2DP in wm5/6 I tray all versions BT stack~but no one could work,so I chose 2003se,IT's best for BT A2DP.
Why Helmi Do not fix that?Dose this really hard?
Yes, it's that hard to fix that. The only way we could get wm5/wm6 working flawless on BA is if we had the source code for the drivers and the testing/debug equipment.
If you know someone that works at HTC you could ask them to look for the BA devkit and sourcecodes on the storage rom... hehehe
Mine didn't skip with WM5 and did not skip when I first flashed WM6. Now it does. When I was messing around trying to connect to bluetooth devices (I couldn't connect properly), it stopped skipping for a while. I don't know if this gives any clues.

I know a way to prevented this bug,but not prefectly.
Use regedit tool, open to find software\widcom\plugin\av
add 3 dwords
Linespeed 320 (10+)
Blocks 16 or 32
Subbands 16
You will see the music quality is prefect
but the skipping frequency is above normal~
When using the asus p535,this way will surly improve the quality~and it no skipping,so I thing it must be the bug from the System~
Use win2003 have no such foolish bug.Now I set my pc back up my pda every time connected it with PC~Store the phone book in simcard~
I have no choice
Toxi,
Thanks. I couldn't add the Dword settings which you suggested because I had no Widcom file. So I loaded Helmi's 1.7 Broadcom BT driver. (Always wanted to try it. The Broadcom BT drivers alway better. Immediately after installing, my BA played music better alone and with my BT headsets. Adding the Hemi 1.7 BT cab, added the Widcom file which allowed me to add the Dword registry changes. The music sounds almost perfect.
I tested the BA with these three BT Stereo Headsets: Motorola S9 headsets; Chinese Copy Motorola BT820; and I-Phono RX450. The Motorola S9 works (It didn't at all with the MS WM6 BT Drivers). The S9 would only work if it's 12 to 18" from the BA. That's unacceptable. The BT820 chinese knockoffs skipped as usual (the skip some with every device cause they're knockoffs). The I-Phono worked perfectly with crisp clear sound and no skipping. I can also get further away from the BA but certainly not more than 3 feet without trouble.
In conclusion: Helmis Broadcom 1.7 cab worked to fix the sound problems completely with and without using the headsets. The newer headsets such as the S9 don't work all that well with the BA.
I hope this is helpful for others not satisfied with the music quality of the BA running WM6.
I wish HTC would make a Blue Angle II.
