The HTC Wizard has Bluetooth version 2.0...! - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Yep - not 1.1 or 1.2 - it is the first PDA, and one of the first devices full stop, that has the brand spanking up-to-date version 2.0 of Bluetooth.
If you don't know - BT 2.0 is 3 to 10 times faster (3 - 10 Mbps), uses less power, has no lag when connecting multiple devices and is backwardly compatible with BT 1.0 - 1.2 (proper and smaller stereo headsets will be one advantage of this).
See here for the evidence (from the Bluetooth Qualification website): http://qualweb.bluetooth.org/Templa...=QualifiedProducts&Details=Yes&ProductID=2740

Excellent, good find!

Says BlueTooth 1.2 here: http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2638

Spoke to I-mate today , they confirm bluetooth 2.0 with Wid instead of Microsft Stack. They also mentioned 3g on the wizard. I guess they ment EDGE.

Oh I really hope it is the Widcomm stack.

Hrm.. annoyingly this says Bluetooth 1.2: http://www.qtek.fi/qtek9100.htm ... though their site says it has a 2.1MP camera in the spec even though the picture says 1.3MP

I can't understand how so many different sites all get the spec wrong and are confusing the consumer. HTC should sort their act out and accurately inform their reseller chain of the correct specs.

so,does bluetooth 2.0(if it really is,not 1.2) means a bluetooth range up to 100 meters?
RAGO

Just to clarify, if you visit http://www.my-xda.com/xdaminis_spec.html O2 themselves say this comes with Bluetooth 2.0

Um... no, it doesn't... sorry... the BT support is lame on the qtek and the range is worthless.

Bluetooth 2.0
This version is backwards compatible with 1.x. The main enhancement is the introduction of Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) of 2.1 Mbit/s. This has the following effects (Bluetooth SIG, 2004):
* 3 times faster transmission speed (up to 10 times in certain cases).
* Lower power consumption through reduced duty cycle.
* Simplification of multi-link scenarios due to more available bandwidth.
* Further improved BER (Bit error rate) performance.

A few comments:
if the chip in the device does not support EDR then it is no better than simple BT v1.2
It might say v2.0 on the box, but if it is not WITH EDR then there is no real advantage over v1.2
I am getting speeds ~50KBytes/sec... anyone can give their speeds?[/url]

Bluetooth Compatibility ver 1.1/1.2

Hi There.
I am using the mini which has the BT 1.2 while my headset (BTH778) has 1.1 version.
Most people complain about hearing me with noises and a bit metalic as well - could that be the issue? if yes, is there a solution?
Thanks,
Udi
Supposedly the MS Stack 1.2 is backwards compatible, but I also wonder about the 1.2 profile.
My Audi has 1.0 or 1.1, not really sure. The Blue Angel worked with my cars BT, but the JAM 1.2 cannot even partner.
The Maigician not being able to partner with your Audi has nothing to do with 1.1 vs 1.2. It is a matter of the MS stack not supporting the "handsfree" profile as required by the Audi. (Or if it is the "headset" profile that is not supported, can't remember).
Makes sense.
Hope someone can figure out how to replace the MS Stack with the newer Broadcom Satck.
Or rather, let us hope that Microsoft provides an updated stack with support for a few more profiles. Apart from the lack of profiles the MS stack seems to do the job pretty well.
I wouldn't count on MS to provide much. They never provided an profiles since 2003 for the MDA II Device, which had the MS Stack, albeit 1.1.

BT in Wizard (details, q&a)

Hi to everyone online.
Frankly speaking the Bluetooth realization in Wizard seems to be full of questions. :?:
I would be very thankful if someone could clarify the following:
1. According to the I-mate site (http://www.clubimate.com/t-DETAILS_KJAM.aspx) Wizard’s BT class is 2. Is it possible to upgrade it to class 1 (registry, patch, etc.)? (I’ve got a BT dongle from Canyon which is class 1 and it could be very convenient to use BT at a range of up to 100 m)
2. Is it possible to check which profiles are supported by the BT stack in my Wizard? The one’s supported for sure are: headset, activesync, serial port. But the one I’m interested in is PAN.
3. Where is it possible to obtain the best all-in-one BT stack for PDA? From Broadcom for example.
This thread (http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/id,14572/catid,26/) is very interesting, but seems that the developer will finish his soft by the end of century…
I will also appreciate any useful information from you.
Um, I think the classes of BT are 1, 1.x then 2 with 2 being the highest class at present. Going to class 1 would be a downgrade...
There is no alternative to the Microsoft stack at present on the Wizard (There was a thread on using the Widcomm 1.500 stack but no-one could get it to work). You can add A2DP / AVRCP to the Wizard via the zoA2DP.cab but I am unsure about PAN (Not sure what PAN is to be honest!)

Seems that there is a little confusion with the terms.
Please note that 'class' is the clas of power consumption. There are 3 classes available at the moment:
Class Power(mW) Power(dBm) Range(approximate)
Class 1 100 mW 20 dBm ~100 meters
Class 2 2.5 mW 4 dBm ~10 meters
Class 3 1 mW 0 dBm ~10cm (1 meter max)
And the things you are talking about are BT versions/specifications. For the moment the following versions are developed:
1.0 and 1.0B
1.1
1.2
2.0.
In this case you are right - v2.0 is the newest and prefferable (supports speeds of up to 2.1 Mbit/s, lower power consumption, etc.
According to the wiki.xda-developers (comparison table of all WM based devices) - Wizard supports BT v2.0. But I'm very doubt about that, as the speed of file transfer from my PC to PDA showed much less speed... (though the BT dongle is v2.0 and class 1)
I would have thought that the hardware implementation was fixed as far as the class was concerned (Thought it unlikely that they would have implemented a class 1 device and restricted the power output via a register in the hardware ... though maybe they have). Hence the reason I thought you were on about the version of BT whose versioning goes the other way (Higher number is better)!
Ah well...
I know initially there was a lot of confusion about the Wizard being a v2.0 or Class 2 device and I have my doubts with the version being 2.0 as well. The speeds just don't seem to be up there.
I would also like to tweak the class of the device if it is possible as without an exchange server at home I can no longer sync wirelessly throughout the house with WiFi, a change of BT class would allow me to do that via BT.

How good (or bad) is the Trinity

OK I see that some of you already got the device. My wife wants to replace her Nokia N80 for the white version. Now I previously had an Orange SPV M3100 (HTC Hermes) & had no end of problems with that sold it & now happily using an Asus P525. So how about the the Trinity.
-Is it stable?
-Does A2DP & AVCRP work properly as in having proper stereo output?
-Does the A2DP reconnect automatically to WMP after receiving a call (the -Hermes never did, had to restart everything).
-How's wifi reception (the Hermes was crap). She uses wifi a lot as we have 250mins free BTOpenzone minutes a month.
-I looked at the HTC website but it seems they do not supply firmware upgrade support for their devices. So where can you get them officially?
Fill me in guys. Thanks
Is it stable?
I don't feel it's very stable when coming to the phone part. If I've used the device for a while, I often have to hard-reboot it for the phone part to work again(it just stands "calling", and nothing happends)
-How's wifi reception (the Hermes was crap). She uses wifi a lot as we have 250mins free BTOpenzone minutes a month.
The WiFI reception on my phone is very good. I've actually managed to connect to hot-spots which my laptop didn't manage to connect... *me like*
-I looked at the HTC website but it seems they do not supply firmware upgrade support for their devices. So where can you get them officially?
In Norway you get the official firmware updates/rom from the local distributor.(Dangaard and Brightpoint)
What about other features, like those related to the cameras?
How is visiophony with the front camera?
How is the picture quality of the back camera? Most of the reviews are made with good light conditions. What about the pictures in low light condition?
Movies? Are they correct?
Battery life with that 400 MHz processor compared to Prophet?
Could anyone post pictures/movies made with Trinity?
The wifes P3600 arrived this morning. Been playing with it all for a while & here's my 1st impressions.
Good
Looks nice & shiny
Small size
Excellent loud clear external speaker
Nice & responsive
Phone reception & general operation is fine
3G works well
Bad
Shiny surface = fingerprint magnet
MS bluetooth stack, better than before but still lacking
A2DP implementation. Not real stereo, only mono out from each channel
Also when disconnectd from WMP it doesn't auto reconnect.
In summary if you used previous HTC devices before then you'll be familiar with this one. When used as a pda & phone it does most things as expected, the menus & general operation are same as before.
But its going back, one of the main reasons being the crap A2DP. Wifey uses music player a lot on her 1 hour daily commute & the fact that sound quality is rubbish (low volume & no stereo) & no option to connect a wired headphones as theres no headphone jack. The same problem as the Hermes in that once disconnected from WMP it doesn't auto reconnect. Have to go into Bluetooth manger to re establish the connection.
Also comparing it to my Asus P525 other than the smaller size, 3G, louder external speaker & looks a bit nicer, in all other depts the Asus is as good & some areas much much better.
Well, my opinion is that the camera sucks... Was on a party this weekend _with_ good lighting, all the picutures came out blurry *argh* (could be it was too much light tough?...)
The videotelephony-part on the other hands is quite good(for videotelephone, NOT for taking still-pictures).
And I also don't like the 2-7 sec. delay when you try to call someone... *argh*

This sounds new to me. I am using a SonyEricsson stereo BT thingy with my Qtek S200 (with A2DP hack) and as far as I can hear the output is stereo not mono from each channel.

Yes, proper stereo could be possible with a registry hack but how many end users are to know that? Only the hardcore users frequent forums such as this & get to learn a lot about their devices. Assuming it can be done then why didn't HTC enable it in the first place? Mention a registry hack to the vast majority of users out there & I'm pretty sure you'll be met with a lot of blank expressions & ??????
With the aesthetic design of the trinity I think HTC are trying to market it to more mainstream audience, thats why my wife likes the look of it, but in all honesty how many of these new users will know how to exploit the device to the full. My wife never visits these forums & even her 8 month old Nokia N80 is still out of the box stock.

I thought the registry hack was only to enable A2DP on those devices where the manufacturer had disabled it and the end result of a hacked S200 would be the same of a standard TyTn or a standard P3600... Are you sure the P3600 output is not stereo?

Pretty sure its not stereo, either that or the stereo separation is really poor because it sounded like mon to me. In saying that though when I paired my iTech R35 stereo bluetooth clip with it there was the option to tick headset mode & stereo mode but its too late now I've sent it back today.
The only dislike on my new P3600 is the position of penon the bottom! . I've used many pda, and the pen was on top! But for the rest I love it!!!!

You are right the stereo bluetooth output is not stereo. This is ridiculous. I hope this can be fixed with some registry hacking otherwise HTC has really screwed this device big time.
One more thing, the smooth black coating is comming of from the bottom where the stylus is placed.... That's s REAL bad thing, since this will eventually tear up more and more of the coating... And I've only had it for two weeks
default A2DP registry settings for Trinity is:
UseJointStereo = 1
please change to:
UseJointStereo = 0
that will fix the "mono sound" issue.
Question
So far what i read, the software for this phone 3600 is not fully stable,
Camera still delay..
Some bugs
additional question following,
Delay of standard programs opening?
How about the sounds quality (loudness and clearness) is it very good?
which one is really better if compare 3600 and 3300(GPS enabled), which should i buy... -_-"
Thank you in advance..

Tytn and Trinity 3G/UMTS should be the same
So far...the trinity is my new favorite thing..very stable (have had to soft reset twice to get the Wifi signal running after a sync while wifi was on) and lots of fun. Phone is great and signal with one bar or less is still usable - where my old motorola was no good with a weak signal...and i can now make and take calls from my office - where previously there was no chance with the motorola. This device does everything I bought it for -combine my PDA and phone into one device...

Is the Hermes the Holy Grail?

I've just been thinking...what is your dream device?
What would HTC (or any PPC Phone manufacturer) have to develop to get you to put your Hermes in your mobile phone collection drawer?
I'd love to know what is your perfect PPC Phone Device! Let's get the perfection specs listed here.
If Apple can get 2 gigs into a Nano why can't HTC get 2gb in a PPC phone?

I agree. At first I though if Cingy released the Hermes like it was supposed to be with the front camera then that would be enough. But actually I could give a rats about the front camera. I think you are right on target.
Why is it that they can't increase the rom to a gig? Is there a technical reason why that is the case?

As a lefty I applauded the Hermes thumbwheel placement... For once the tables are turned. Don't change a thing there plz.
Hurrah for Lefties!!!! I enjoy that scroll wheel very much!
Hermes would be greater if....
it had...
a slimmer design,
more internal memory
and a standard headphone jack.
otherwise...
Great phone, especially with kyphers xd-live rom
that all have phun hehehe
They could release this same phone in a second edition or anything else they want to call it and add a few features.
More internal storage memory is a MUST. I cannot think of a single reason for being limited to around 45-60mb when Nokias and SonyEricssons are getting double that at the least.
Internal GPS also needs to be there. I never understood why people would want it until I finally tried it. It is not just about navigation. It gives access to location based information regarding restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and just about any other business you may need and their phone numbers...yeah, plus directions to the location!
A NO CAMERA option and a better camera for those who choose the camera. We don't all want one on the phone since we can't take them certain places...like work. However, those that do want it should have a better camera installed. I do not just mean more megapixels. The camera needs to be sharper, faster, clearer, and more accurate for colors. I don't need 7MP on my phone, but the photos I take with it should be worth showing to people, not just big.
More security options for those of us who don't have access to the Exchange server. Many of us might have a hosted exchange service or none at all but we still want access to all of the security feature that other users enjoy.
...and keep the scroll wheel on the left! Right handed folks get everything else made for them. It is nice to have something for me!
I'll Play, I think the "Kaiser" will be close, slightly thinner Hermes with built-in GPS.
I'm OK with 320x240 as the Hermes is quite good, I have an iPaq hx4700 with a HUGE 640x480 screen with excellent outdoor readability so who wouldn't love a ultra crisp display.
I have always wondered why the heck these companies won't give us a couple of GIG extra storage. I'd also prefer mini SD so we could use a cheaper and I think more common 8GB SDHC card.
Thumb wheel. Well I've played with a friend's Blackberry and it is better on the right (for us right handers).
Can't wait to see the Kaiser, one step closer to the perfect "all-in-one"
Hmm, let me see (in order of preference)
Built in DAB digital radio
GPS
Built in FM/AM radio
A screen the same size as my Hermes but with higher resolution.
Better camera (maybe 3mp but also better quality metering and focusing)
Mini SD slot or large (6gb) int memory
3.5mm headphone socket
Better quality loudspeaker
Better layout of buttons on front of device (I have a SPV M3100)
Once the qwerty slide is out, it would be nice to be able to tilt the screen towards you.
An clip-on external wifi ariel to boost signal as standard in the box
Also just imagine the processing power and RAM of even a cheep laptop in a PPC. You could attach an auxiliary 9" screen, mini keyboard and run a version of windows far closer to the desktop OS (if not the same). I could even get some web design done on the move then without a laptop.
lol, probably got a bit carried away there, but then again when the Nokia 8210 was the mutts nuts 5-6 years ago who would of thought that the Hermes would have been possible!

Form factor is ok, but it would be nice if the screen could be tilted slightly. On the hardware side, I would like to see:
USB host, standard audio jack, GPS would be nice, better design (slimmer and better looking), video out (don't care vga/cinch/...), video in, 640x480 display, ...
My main issues are with the software, before any other hardware, I would like the software to provide more features:
BT PAN, WPA2, better IMAP support, stability (sometimes my startbutton just disappears, sometimes the device just hangs, ...), printerdrivers, ...
Oh, BTW, a printer is not so far fetched: the technology is here.

If you take a look at it, it comes from the 3470 (or rather, the P660). I think that they have removed the CPU and replaced it with a faster one.
Those pictures are a P660/P3470, there can be no question.

I realize that the Dopod 660 is the same as the P3470, and it has the same Specs.
But the Ebay add specifically said that they had upgraded the OMAP to a different CPU, and that WiFi was enabled. I asked the seller about this.

He said it was "OEM" and that the CPU was indeed fast (presumably no longer the OMAP850), and that WiFi was present. I wasn't interested in buying one, so I didn't ask about the language (English, I guess, the auction was in AU $), warranty, etc.
very strange, so they changed the cpu,.. and the motherboard presumably...so then its a different phone

I think they just swapped out the CPU and added drivers for the WiFi. The external form factor and the other specifications are identical to the P660 / P3470.
Either they licensed the design from HTC, or they "borrowed" it. Or maybe HTC is building them for another company - HTC often does that, although it is usually common knowledge when this happens.

There is a whole thread about enabling WiFi on the HTC Pharos; evidently the OMAP 850 has WiFi built in, but HTC chose not to support WiFi. They have had no luck enabling it in the Pharos. I suspect there is a hardware issue, i.e., there is no connection from the OMAP to an antenna.

hehehe i know i started that thread... we didnt succeed in identifying a couple of chips.. so we dont know if there is an actual antenna connection... and we have confirmed that Pharos does not have a bluetooth/wifi in one chip
so if the coolp660 has wifi and ONLY the processor is changed... that would be very significant! then our pharos is "wifi ready" just needs to be enabled!

The items are no longer for auction on ebay (the auctions ended, and no more are listed). I'm not entirely sure it wasn't a scam anyway; the item was from Hong Kong, but the listing was in AU $. It seemed funny to me, not to mention that the device was obviously a P3470 case and specification - except for the CPU and WiFi.
This is an awsome Phone!!!!!!
Well for a noob like myself I think it is. This phone is also considered a V990.
It has Windows Mobile 6 Pro / CE os 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2). with a PXA310 @ 624MHZ, 256/128. It's also VERY affordable. I have no clue as to what the OS is compatable to OEM, Cooked, or other OS could replace it. any info on this would be greatly appreciated by far. Thanks in advanced for any info and I hope this phone does alot better than the DAXIAN X999+
of course
yes it has WIFI too
if it does have the PXA processor then its a significantly different phone than the p3470...so much for getting that rom ...
so i've got this phone, it says it has 624mhz cpu and wifi is working
if you want it's rom, pictures or screenshots - just tell me how to do it
