Hi,
I have a T-Mobile MDA Pro, but am currently using the latest Vodafone ROM.
This doesn't have the MSN (Hotmail/Messenger) Utility.
I've gone to the MSN website, and they're charging for the file, does anyone have the CAB file for it?
I'm NOT asking for an illegal copy, as I have a T-Mobile MDA which comes with it anyway, just want to know if anyone has the CAB, or knows how I can extract it from the T-Mobile ROM.
Cheers!
You could always change to the most recent t-mobile rom?

I wouldn't go near it. I use the dopod Radio ROM which is 1.11.00, and haven't had a dropped call since.
I've found other ROMs and ExtROMs a lot faster, as there's more free memory, if you try them you'll see what I mean :-D The only good thing about the T-Mobile ROMS is that it has MSN on it.
If you can't find the MSN file, try Agile Messenger. It is free and a lot faster than the built-in MSN on my QTEC ROM. Plus, you can use it for other accounts, not just hotmail. Take a look here: http://agilemobile.com/downloads.html

I've got that, but with the MSN one I could have my Hotmail account showing up in Messaging :-/ Any ideas how I can add that? It only lets me add a POP3 account if I do it manually.
Try manually executing \Windows\pmsnlauncher.exe or \Windows\instmsgr.exe
Hey,
I'm slightly confused here...
I have an MDA PRO and I don't have MSN. Should I? It doesn't appear to be on the CDs that came with the device either, and those two files in /windows are not present on my device.
Is there any way I can go about getting this as I'm on T-mobile without paying for it?
Cheers,
Dave
These two files are in the main OS ROM and all the ROM I've seen have them. In the case of vodaphone ROM, it just removes the shortcut and it can be manually launched. MDA Pro could be a different story.

I've just got the mda pro on tmobile on upgrade, silver verson, handset is excellent, but it doesnt seem to have any of the MSN apps pre-installed, like messenger, does anyone know where i can get these from?
Messenger can be bought from MS..
I preferr Agile Messenger myself..
Is this not suppose to be a default free application already installed?
T-Mobile made a deal with HTC to have MSN taken out, apparantly. I had an MDA Pro without MSN, and when I put on the Jasjar rom, I suddenly did have MSN
Right, so whats the difference between the tmobile ROM and the MDA rom? apart from the added MSN feature.
How do I flash my MDA with the Jasjar's rom?
Rather than risk flashing my MDA PRO with the JasJar ROM, I simply paid £10.50 to M$ and now have the full suite of MSN applications (Messenger, Hotmail integrated with pocket Outlook, etc) on my MDA PRO. When you buy it, it's activated on your "passport account" not the software itself - this means that you can install MSN on any other device in the future and won't have to pay for it again (as long as you sign in as you).
Disappointing yes, but there are too many "my JasJar is now a brick!!!" threads on this forum and that convinced me that flashing was a bad idea as this device is so new
Hi,
i made the upgarde and there were no problems att all. The msm software ist not the only difference, with the jasjar roms you´ll get skype, an anti-virus-solution and get rid of that grey / magenta look.
Oh, i forgot, i had serveral problems with wifi with the t-mobile roms ... with the jasjar roms wifi is very very easy and stable.
I made it and i am happy with it.
Superbowl
See the following thread for MDA pro rom upgrade details:

I work for a certain mobile provider, and have it on authority, that a ROM update is out in November for the PRO with MSN included, and the blackberry connect software for email
Cool, do you know where we will be able to download this from?
I think i can wait.
Hi
Anyone know if the downloadable Pocket MSN version @ MS is WM2005 compatible? It seems to be just 2003/SE:
http://mobile.msn.com/ac.aspx?cid=pmsn_market
Nigel
@veletron: yes, it is, you can run it on wm5.
cheers, lutz
I too had problems installing Pocket MSN on my MDA Pro (the activation process only seems to accept Hotmail-accounts, not generic e-mail addressed that can be your MSN/Passport account as on the PC-version of MSN Messenger).
Until MS resolves this issue, I downloaded and installed IM+ from
http://www.shapeservices.com/eng/im/PPC/
Seems to work fine in WM5, supports landscape just fine, has WM5-style notification "bubbles" when someone is speaking, however it lacks the use of the 2 WM5-style hardware buttons. So far, it seems to be the best MSN Messenger client for me, until I can use the "real thing" with my normal MSN account.
I just got my qtek 9100 and it came installed with pocket msn. Is there anyway I can remove this as I dont have a hotmail account and dont want the hotmail inbox. .... or is there another way of removing just the inbox.
I much prefer agile for msn anyway so dont realy need pocket msn anyway.
Any help would be appreciated.
hi buddy
try the attached file - got it from my wizard extended rom!
cheers, lutz

Its in the Windows folder and some thing like msnmsgr.exe - can't tell you for sure as I dont have it with me.
Just to finish off I placed a copy in the start menu and removed from the today screen the pocket MSN thing.

Thanks for the repsonses.
I did a hard reset and didnt start the pocket msn software, so it didnt create a hotmail inbox. I've removed it from the program icons.
The messenger software is called instmsgr.exe but if you use that it still creates the hotmail inbox.
Cheers
i too would like to know how to use msn without it making the hotmail inbox. also i'd like to get rid of the outlook email one but i could live with that staying but 2 inboxes i dont use starts to get anoying
I just use agile messenger which is free and does the same job. In fact it goes one better by including AOL, ICQ and yahoo messenger.

I simply made a shortcut in SPB Pocket Plus to a file called..... instmsrg.exe which is in the Windows folder.
To get rid of the mailbox, i guess you could hard reset, create the shortcut to instmsgr.exe then never open the Pocket MSN so the mailbox never gets made. As suggested above.

as shah said it still creates the hotmail account as soon as you sign in using the msn software. oh well guess i'll just have to use a 3rd party app for instant messaging
dean
right figured out how to remove it. go into settings / memory and stop msn and messaging. (this'll stop you having to reset)
load up a reg editor, I used resco explorer. goto HKLM/software/microsoft/inbox/svc then rename the "hotmail" key to "-hotmail" exit resco and press the power button to standby your device and save the reg changes. now if you go into messages the hotmail will be gone.
i've only just figured this out so not sure if there are any minor side effects, let me know if you notice any.
Thanks
That seems to do the trick.
Need just to decide whether to use agile or instmsgr ... The latter integrates better with the os but I think I read somewhere that it uses more data so higher gprs costs ???
I just tried this on the new rom, and it denied me access to the whole messaging package.
No Texts, nothing.
So I'm just undo-ing the change.
How can I get rid of the process called pMSNServer.exe which takes up around 300KB of my precious RAM??

Not to be contrary, but pMSNServer.exe should only be using 56kb of resident memory. I haven't seen it run since I did the following from a few posts up (though I deleted the whole key rather than renaming it):

I already deleted that key as well - I don't have the MSN Inbox in my MobileOutlook...
However, the pMSNService.exe is still running and takes up around 300KB...
which app you use to see how much space does the msn program use when running ?
thanx
I am using SKTools, but there are also many other memory managers...

Dear Lutzh,
I ran this cab on my Toshiba G900 WM6P PPC phone, to remove WLM, and it asked where to install, I chose Storage Card. Now on card I have folder Tools with a file CeSetup in it which does not have a file association. In Add/Remove programs I have nothing new that can be removed. In /windows I still have the WLM files. Did I do something wrong, what should I do next?
Thank you in advance
Hi,
I'm a very fanatic MSN Messenger User (wrote a few add-ons and helped on for example Messenger Plus!).
As a tech geek I also recently bought a T-Mobile MDA Pro, and am quite disappointed that it did not come with Pocket MSN pre-installed. An MVP assured me that it should come pre-installed, but it doesn't (and I blame T-Mobile ).
Although Agile and others are very good alternatives, I still believe the official client will be better, and refuse to believe otherwise untill I tried it
I know one method to get PocketMSN is to flash another ROM, like the I-Mate. However I don't think this is an option for a lot of people, as I think it breaks the warranty. Another method is to pay 14.95E to log in with a downloadable Pocket MSN, but as I have up to three addresses (some for testing purposes) and sometimes I need to troubleshoot some others, this is not an option either.
But I am not giving up! (yet)
I want to try if I can copy the files needed and get it to work anyway. I've already asked a friend with a HTC Wizard (MDA Vario) to help me on that, but I think it'd be better to copy the files from a Universal ROM.
So (finally ), I was hoping that someone could help me to browse the files present in the i-mate or qtek roms. Ideally I think the easiest would be by comparing the files in the i-mate, qtek, and mda pro roms, but as the mda pro ROM is unavailable, I think that'd be impossible
It comes preinstalled on the O2 ROM as well. Works fine, but lacks videoconferencing, regardless of built in hardware support...
Works fine? Do you have the problem where if you start it in landscape mode you only get a very small area of text until you flip the screen to potrait mode and back again? Or is that just me.... I have the o2 rom.

On the MDA Pro ROM it isn't installed... at all
i have JJ and it works fine, but times out and disconnects itself.
if you tell me what files I need to get for you, I will copy. i have no idea how to extract out of the source .exe, but have it if you can tell me what to do and how to do it, but suspect there are better gurus around than me to do this.
Guys
There ave been a few threads on this already. T-Mobile in the UK (branded as MDA _Pro) do not offer the msn software. Initially i was a bit dissapointed when i got my MDA, however when i discovered Agile messenger i was very happy.
Agile supports mulitple formats, ICQ, AOL, MSN etc.. but better still for a mobile device with a per kb download charge it uses way less bw than the windows version. I also was pissed off about Mobile msn not supporting multiple accounts and also the paid for version will only support @hotmail or @msn accounts not @mydomain accounts.
Regards
Charlie
Does Agile support Videochat (preferably via wifi)?
Agile does not support video at the moment but there is another thread on the forum about the new version of agile for WM5. I think they are working on video support but if it will support that in version 1 beta or not is yet to be decided.
In the T-Mobile Germany ROM Update MSN Messenger is included. And it works fine!
I use now Agile Messenger and MSN Messenger. If you also want use ICQ, then Agile is better. MSN Messenger does not have so many features (e. g. no Emoticons, but Agile shows them correctly)
I wonder, if it is possible to make a cab file out of the MSN files of this ROM in order to use it for other Roms. Any ideas?
after updating to 2.16.9.1 WWE ROM
I lost MSN Messenger. Cannot find it anywhere?
is it possible? where to find?
use agile messenger instead? agilemobile.com i think....

it's very strange. I have the same rom installed and MSN presents. Did you look for MSN Options in Start/Settings?
I've noticed the same.
I get the full "MSN" page which means an extra click to start messenger.
I used to have a shortcut direct to the Msn_Msgr program but... now it's gone
Are they that desperate for us to use their whole MSN "suite"?!
in Settings I have MSN Options dialog,
but all features are disabled, except the one: SMS
all others are disabled on every taps.

First use Pocket MSN in Start/Programs to set your account
works now
thanks for great suggestions! works!
but I get icons for Pocket MSN dialog, then I can select MSN Messenger.
I preffer icon directly to Messenger, but this is no special problem.
now, all features in MSN Settings are enabled.

make a shortcut to it.
use file manager to:
"copy" the file \windows\instmsgr.exe
and "paste shortcut" in \windows\start menu\programs
great help! thx!
Fantastic!
The last step I made the above shortcut, this is what I wanted to back.
This is why I love this forum. Sharing ideas and solution. Nowhere and noone (mean: no manufactures and no device provider) gives such good support and help.
btw: why the official ROM release which so many bugs? I found there are some old IA CallerID pictures inside the ROM with no matter to use, because this program was remove a while.
is it normal i have got no MSN pre-installed on my universal
cheers,, cudo
If you mean MSN messenger, it is called "Pocket MSN" and the icon is a butterfly. From within that you then select MSN messenger. I had a similar problem when I got mine, not being able to find it. I must say I don't like it like this.
nope i tried to localize it everywhere but i just dont have it installed.
i am using mda pro. even if i try to serch within help there is nothing about pocket msn, msn and so on...why is that maybe i just need to upgrade to the lates ROM ?
mine never came with it either mate had to use agile msng in the end,
im also running a tmob uk mda pro

You all need to upgrade your ROMS to the latest version to get MSN Messenger!

brill thanks
thanks mate just downloading that,
how do you find ext rom stable and is it a pain in the ass to do
also does it free much up and increase speeds
cheers
Installation was pretty straight forward. I wrote my first thoughts here and so far tey havent changed:

Have you got yours sorted now?
For those interested, some operators do not ship their PDA-phones with MSN messenger so as not to compete with their own instant messenging solutions / SMS offers.
