Hello all, i've got a perculiar problem.
In order for my Prophet to obtain Internet access whilst connected via activesync to my computer i need to enter a proxy. Once i've done this (including password), all the applications on the Prophet have access to the internet, i.e. RSS, email, etc.
However, the next time i connect the prophet to the laptop, the proxy entry is either gone or has been changed! Normally to something completely different, something not related to the original proxy setting. The username and password are normally still ok, just the proxy setting itself, including the port, has been changed. This means i need to re-enter it every time i sync.
Anyone else have this problem?

I did some research on the web but could find only insatisfactory solutions to my problem.
The scenario is the following - nothing extraordinary actually: I sync my Magician with two computers, at work... and at home. - like most people, I would expect. For my work computer I use USB and at home I connect through Bluetooth - no problems with that.
The thing is that the two computers connect to the internet through a proxy, each of which has a different name of course. So to get the internet connection sharing working in both cases, I have to Start>Settings>Connections>Connections>Advanced>SelectNetworks, before i start ActiveSync, to change the proxy config. If ActiveSync recognises the computer it syncs with, why doesn't it change the necessary network settings?
In the "Weather" thread in this forum someone suggested Kelbran's Proman to quickly switch between configurations. But to switch a profile, the program asks you to reset every time. Not very quick.
Does anyone know some solution to my problem, maybe a Today plugin that lets you switch between two netwok configs quickly, or a plug that configures proxy settings for each ActiveSync partner? :?:
GPRS is new territory for me. I'm planning to apply for a GPRS acct with my telco
I'm afraid that once I've configured the settings for internet via GPRS from my telco, it will always use GPRS whenever I want to connect to the internet.
How do I switch back to normal mode when I'm at home and accessing the internet thru ActiveSync?
On my EXTENDED_ROM, there is a file called vodafone.CAB which will configure my phone with Vodafone settings (I'm with Vodafone). Whenever I run that file (after a hard reset), I cannot access the internet via ActiveSync. Everytime I run PIE, it always defaults to GPRS.
I don't know how to switch to use internet via activesync once I'm on the GPRS plan and then switch back to GPRS when I'm not at home.
If you are concerned about it using GPRS once you are connected to ActiveSync you could always switch to flight mode. Not ideal, I admit, if you use your phone alot and don't like it being turned off.
I had two profiles on mine, one GPRS and one dial up. Even when I set the default to the dial up (CSD) it still tried to use GPRS. Fault with my pocket PC only? maybe. What was strange was that even after I deleted the GPRS profile and soft reset it still was using GPRS! I had to hard reset in the end.
So, I would backup your pocket PC before installing the GPRS profiles.
If you have a large bandwidth then it probably won't matter to you but if not I would definately install a bandwidth monitor as you may also find that some apps you install may also try to periodically get internet access.
The problem with Windows Mobile 2003 is that you can't seem to tell it to ask you first. Microsoft seem to think that you either want GPRS on permanently or don't use it at all. I am sure there are a lot of people out there who just want to use it from time to time. If an app wants internet it just goes and gets it!
Having said that, even with CSD, it will still dial out when it wants. To get around that problem I created 2 profiles, one of which doesn't have a userid and password. I set the default profile to the one without userid. That way if something tries to get internet access it first asks the user to enter their userid and password - in effect it safeguards against a rogue dial out.
I personally don't use GPRS as I found out that my CSD access will use my free minutes. Since I hardly use my phone for voice calls I may as well make use of the free minutes for internet access.
Ok did some searching around ppcsg, apparently you can turn off GRPS by pressing the RED button (the disconnect talk button) and holding it for a few seconds.
Or use this tool

Question is whether once the GPRS is turned off, will internet access be automatically be directed to the ActiveSync connection (assuming I'm connected via ActiveSync)
To use internet via AS you should configure 'my work network' correctly under the 'connections' settings. The 'my isp' connection is meant for dial-up & gprs access to the internet.
Sadly can't tell how to do it in detail as my magician is my wireless modem & at work the connection isn't allowed. Maybe the help files are of any use in this.
Cheers, M
yes, mine, just automatically uses my internet connection thro' my PC with AS, but as soon as I disconnect from my PC, my Qtek switches over to GPRS.. which is pretty cool.
dood, care to share how you achieve this?
I suppose the question is, if you are connected to a PC which is on the internet, why would you want internet access on the Magician anyway? Why not just use Thunderbird or other web browser?
Outlook will sync the inbox for e-mail when connected via activesync...
The joy of surfing the net while watching TV lying on the bed..can't really do that wth a laptop..too heavy
PROBLEM SOLVED, APPEARS TO BE A NETWORK ISSUE
New question posted in second post.
I've searched the forums and the internet extensively without any help so here I am, asking for the community's help.
I can activesync just fine (ActiveSync 4.2) and am able to connect to the internet just as well from my Wizard via WiFi however I am unable to access the internet from my Wizard via ActiveSync passthrough.
I have selected "This computer is connected to the internet" in ActiveSync and, when viewing my network connections, I see the ActiveSync connection is in working order (IP address: 169.254.2.2).
I am unable to connect to the internet as well as my LAN because I tried pulling up my router's web interface in PIE only to receive this error:
"Unable to connect due to an unknown error [some crazy error number]."
I'm unable to connect to the internet with any application (tried sending email, updating pocket weather, egress, etc).
I've also uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync.
I haven't always had this problem and I can only think of two things I've done in the interim: I'm at a different house thus my desktop connects to a different network and I've installed (and subsiquently uninstalled) HitchHiker b.41.
Anyone have any ideas?
it is a network issue..
EDIT: I'm ridiculous.
After trying it out at work, I'm left to assume that the problem is a network issue (I'm able to connect at work).
This, however, brings me to a different question. I currently have four network connections set up: Blank, MEdia Net, My Work Network, My ISP. I have "Blank" set as the connection to use for both programs that connect automatically to the inernet as well as for those that connect automatically to my work network EDIT: this is my problem ... I had to set up "programs that connect to my work network ..." to use the work network connection (obvious?) I always assumed this meant programs that would only be accessing my work (I.E. a VPN client).. My question is that in order for me to connect to the internet from work, I have to add my proxy settings to the "Blank" connection. Adding them to the "My Work Network" connection does nothing. This leads me to believe that setting the "This computer connects to ..." dialog in ActiveSync accomplishes nothing. Can anyone help me with this? I'd like to connect using my work proxy while I'm at work and no proxy while I'm at home (is that too much to ask) but, apparently, selecting the appropriate value in the "This computer connects to" dialog in ActiveSync isn't enough.
Hi
I am running the normal T mobile UK rom.
Since last week I dont receive email, my internet connection returns blank pages...
I dont know what change. Even with WIFI internet is not working.
any idea what I should check ?
thanks
Have you set the Web 'n Walk and wifi profiles to connect via your work profile, which may have a proxy server set up?
Try checking in your connection settings, make sure everything's via Internet connection not work connection. Also check the APN (it should be general.t-mobile.uk) and the username and password can be anything I think (I think the last time I typed something in, I just used tmobile as the username and password as the password, although I used to type one2one as the password because I found it amusing )
If all else fails, your rom might be a bit screwed up... Can you access the internet when you're synced via USB or bluetooth?
Hi to everyone, I have been looking for a post with my problem but i dont seem to find it. Here's my problem
When i connect to a wifi which is free access or only password protectiom with wep, (only need to enter a password to access the internet) I have no problem, i can access internet, but when i try to access a wifi point with wpa2 which asks for a user and password (The internet connection at uni) the phone gets blocked and even if i do a soft reset, it keeps blocked, i need to do a hard reset
I have downloaded securew2 as htc has no wpa2 where i can enter a username and password, i have installed the certificates which are needed, but still it blocks the phone. i have tried it 3 times and each time i had to do a hard reset (to mention that i have followed my uni instructions of how to setup securew2 and all the steps)
Description of what happens: Basically when I select connect to the wifi, the light turns off, and i can't do anything. When I restart the phone, i have no time to enter the wifi connections to stop the connection because it freezes the screen and then turns off.
If anyone could give me a hint i would really appreciate as i am most of the time at university and i would like to use the wifi connections for email stuff and surfing on the net with the phone(classes are very boring and there are many things to be seen in youtube jajajaaj)รง
thank you people
