Hi all,
I like to know if you can use Email-client in WM V5.0-based PDA- phone to attach photo, video in the email and send?? For the same question, can this be done on Window mobile v2002 and v2003?
your help is appreciated.
Thanks
Hi WantaMore.
Pocket outlook can handle any attachment, incoming and outgoing just like it's big brother on the PC. I don't use it much so I am not sure if it will display images in the text (I think not) but you will see an attached file, which you can view and save. This goes for 2003 and WM5 (I am only 70% sure about 2002)
Hi levenum,
Thanks. Pocket Outlook is not 100% same as PC's Outlook. Therefore, I am sure certain functions are not included.
I had asked a salesman of Pda-phone. He said that PDa-phone can not attach video file and photo file except word, excel , powerpoint files in pocket outlook to send out.
Attachment for Window mobile -based PDA only for word, excel and powerpoint files in Pocket outlook is ok.
Please if you can verify this or confirm the above. Thank you.

I agree with Rudegar. Salesman are good in selling their products but usually terrible on details, especially tech stuff. No offence to all sales person, but try asking them if you can flash the ROM and have a totally new OS on the phone. Their answer may be "Oh, no, you can't do that, you can install applications and stuff in it, but the OS is fix, just make sure your applications are meant for this OS will do. Our package also include 3 software that will help you in your time management and we also have 3 months of free phone insurance and 100 minutes talk time. Would you like to pay by credit card or cheque?"
Anyway, I don't see why IF Pocketout look can attach a file, why can't it attach a photo? For a email client to attach a file, it needs an encoder, which translate a binary file to ASCII code to be attached at the end of the email. It should works for all file type. Unless you said that it doesn't have the attachment function (e.g. missing encoder) and then it can't encode/attach anything.
YES IT CAN!!!
As per WantaMore's request I went to test this on my jamin. Not only can POUTLOOK attach a video, the camera app has a button that lets you send the video or picture directly to mail, so you don't have to save the file, exit and open the email client. While doing this I remembered that iPaq 3715 also has this functionality so the answer is YES for WM5 and 2003.
Plus like hanmin said, it doesn't really matter to the client whats in the attachment, since the basic functionality is there you can attach what ever you want!
There's just one important point: email servers are often set to block attachments with certain extensions for security reasons. For example, my company's exchange server won't allow exe or rar files. This is to prevent virus spreading. (not very efficient by the way since it still excepts zip).
Oh and as for sales people, I recently switched my cell carrier (I won't mention to which one) and the person who sold me the SIM (I went to a service center) saw the device, and I specifically told him I want internet access, yet I found out the next day, the reason I could not connect to GPRS was that my package was for WAP service. Fortunately, they immediately rectified the problem and were very curtius. Goes to show they don't always know everything they should!

Hello all
Right, so I've had my Wizard for a couple of months so far and it's struck me as a wonderful piece of miniaturisation. But I've found the OS lets it down - WM2005 tries to do too much and thus fails as the basic features, stability and user-friendliness. Anyway, bashing Microsoft isn't why I'm here today
I've managed to sort out most of the pressing concerns with the device, especially the sluggishness (fixed with a firmware upgrade from O2, my carrier). But there are a few things that bother me still:
1) When adding a new ToDo task or contact, the first field loses focus after a random amount of time, halfway through typing. This is incredibly annoying as I have to, after typing in thef first few letters, refocus the cursor at the end of the text to continue typing. This only effects the default (first) field selection, ie, the contact or task name.
2) When plugged into my PC, it appears as a network device. Fair enough, I can see the logic behind a phone being classed as a network device. What's annoying as that whenevr I plug it in, a network connection is set up which become the primary - overruling my LAN connection to the internet. Now I never use my phone as a modem, but I still have to unplug or disable it if I want to access the web or do other PC-based networking activites.
3) Hotmail. I can't believe this was built into the email client. How can it be removed? And can the 'Outlook' email be made to download email directly? It's completely pointless to have to maintain two email profiles for the same account - one for email received via Outlook and the other for directly downloaded messages. I need to reply to SMSs for them to be marked as 'read'. Anyone know if this is usual behaviour? Better yet, are there any decent alternatives to the messaging suite? I really loved the threaded SMS views of the Treo and its email client, but haven't found any PocketPC equivalents.
4) I'm really hating Outlook on my desktop - the only reason I installed it was to allow (half) my emails to by sync'ed. I've been yearning to get back to Thunderbird but have been held back by my phone. However, recently, I heard of something called FinchSync, which claims to allow Thunderbird-WM2005 email/contact sync'ing. Anyone used it?
5) Skype. I like Skype and would love to see it on my phone. I knew when I brought it that it probably wouldn't be able to run it and my tests (even if OC'ed to 252MHz) show that it doesn't really work (gets tantilizingly close). Yet I hear people claiming it works perfectly on their devices - I was wondering if there's a clever trick to this.
Phew - that's a load!
Thanks

I think this is related to way of managing mails. Outlook is build in acount fo handling sync'ed mail's and standard pop3 is for handlig popped mails. Actually I am not syncing my e'mails (my inobx on pc is larger thn my sd card ) but imo there is another way of managaging (ie. on my pop3 account emails are deleted from device when read and older than settins)

Hi savac
Thanks for the reply - I'm thinking you're right about the networking issues being on the desktop.
You got your Skype on a ROM - I downloaded mine from the Skype website. I opted for the 'low power' version, I assume that's the one everyone else uses?
The question is not how to sync SnapVue with Vista (because it is possible getting full WM), the question is another.
I think that all of us have a Pc or "big" laptop and the Shift, and in my case I have several emails account configured in Outlook (Desktop PC). Now, it will be useful if I could access the "same" Outlook on Vista side (Shift), but the only way is to configure Outlook on the same way that my Pc, leaving all the emails on the server, deleting theme when I check my email from my Desktop Pc. But doing so I do not have all my emails with me on my Shift. There is a way to sync Outlook on Shift with Outlook on my Desktop Pc without Exchange server? I do not have any access to any Exchange server, furthermore even if I had, I do not think it will be very fast to access all my 800mb of emails using outlook as a client of Exchange server, isn't it?!
How do you are working about this?
And what about files? Do you sync files or some folders from your Desktop Pc and Vista's Shift? If yes how? Some times ago Novell made iFolder (http://www.ifolder.com/index.php/Main_Page), an interesting client that syncs files and folders with a remote server on the web, and you can install many clients as you need on different machines, so when you create a new file or modify an old one, iFolder client send the differences to the server on Internet, and every time that the other Pcs goes on line it sync theme as well. The problem is that iFolder is not working and that project seems that has been left alone. Do you know if there is something similar?
Thanks
I'm currently using many ways to do the things you ask for.
I bought an exchange server space from an italian provider (don't know if I can post its name), and through that exchange I sync my contacts, calendars, to do's etc.
As far as files are concerned, I'm using at present Humyo, that gives you 1 Gb of free space for free, even if I use it in a 100 Gb - payed version. As I have a flat rate data plan with vodafone, I can easily have my files always under control. Of course I do the "big job" (heavy uploads etc) at home with an ordinary ADSL.
If you need a freeware solution and own a web space, you could try and install Relay, an open source project that does more or less the thins Humyo does. Of course the problem here could be web space. (HINT: I tried to "install" Relay on my Aruba server, but because of security reasons - I upload work files - I preferred to use Humyo).
Of course, if you need more infos, feel free to post on this thread
Ciao
ADDED: as far as 800 Mb of e-mail, you can always ask your Outlook to download headers (and not the whole message) and include or exclude attachments. And if you really need you 800 Mb always with you, you can always do the first sync from an ADSL...

I see--- but what about considering your web space as your HDD? I mean: you don't have to take all files with you and then sync them each day... You simply open the file from your space and work from there. That's the way I'm working with Humyo, and that's the best use for my Voda+Shift device.
Anyway I don't think it would be so difficult to find some script (or even "Sync folder" in Windows) to do the things you want.

Sync files is usefull because I do not have a flat internet connection, so in this way I can access all file on the hard drive and sometimes sync with my Desktop.
Sync folder in Windows works only when I am on the same network, but not when I have outside with my shift.
Finally, FolderShare is ok, but I have to leave my Desktop alway on! This is why I am looking about something like ifolder or Live Mesh.
Concernig exchange...I thinnk mail2web is the only provider that provide free Exchange access only from PocketPC, I cannot find any provider that let use their Exchange Server for free like mail2web but allowing connection from Outlook...so...no email and no automatic file sync for now. Anyway thanks for your help
I know I'm late, but you could be interested with Syncing.Net.
It's working via the net, and you've not to have the computers on at the same time.
The "bad" thing is you need an internet connection to synchronize, even if it will not use it.

See FAQ :
Does SYNCING.NET also work with Windows Mobile devices?
Not yet! A Windows Mobile Edition is planned for the future, but I can’t say when it’s available. At the moment SYNCING.NET synchronize only outlook data stored in a local pst file at a Desktop or Laptop PC.

That's why I prefer to use a (not so cheap but very stable) exchange account for my outlook-related stuff and a humyo account for files (they are both OS independent...). I recently met a nice virus in one of my desktop and had to low-level format all HDD. I didn't lose a single bit of my data (mail, calendar, tasks, docs etc): I just had to sign in again to my exchange provider and to humyo and everything was still there. As I told a few posts ago in this thread, I forgot what an HDD is (internal or external): I usually travel with a portable HDD, but I could even burn it and I would still be sure not to lose anything.
The point, IMHO, is: how valuable are the data you need to store? The more valuable they are, the more you are willing to pay for their security. If I lost my HDD and my contacts the damage would be much more chan a couple of 100 Euros to buy another HDD...
Well, I had to format my DD only 1 time in 18 years of computing, and it was because of the DD itself (because it became very slow in writing, due to hardware failure). I had the time to save my datas before that, so no damage. My antivirus and antispywares were always capable of getting rid of attacks.
Since August, we had an Exchange Server, so Outlook sync wasn't a problem, but now we haven't any server, so we're searching for alternatives. I tried some, and for me they have to be Internet-free (or almost !) because I don't always have access to a connection.
Syncing.net seems to be a good (if not perfect !) answer to my problematic.

Hi Guys,
My Xperia is hooked up to my company's Exchange server. Some people have been emailing me with some attachments lately and it seems that some strange things happen when I click on some attachments.
If the attachment is an image, it gets opened and I see it. That's great.
However, doc files seem to be a problem. Some just open (great), others show "downloading" (the attachment icon changes with a green bar on it), the download progress bar finishes, the icon for the attachment changes back, and then..... nothing.
This seems especially common on "docx" files and "xlsx" files. I thought these were supported by Office Mobile (in fact I thought it FORCED saving in docx etc).
Can anyone tell me what's going on? I'm getting fed up of being teased by my iPhone using colleagues
Thanks
I don't know exactly but aren't docx files the latest Office Vista files? I think my Office 2003 can't open them and maybe Office mobile can't too?
Yes, you're right. It's office 2007 format but I was specifically told that WM6.1 would handle them.
The other weird thing is that it doesn't even offer to save the attachment to the filesystem for viewing later on via a PC over USB

Press&Hold the stylus on the attachement.
It will give you menu options (with save) without opening file.
.docx is a Vista doc format.
To read it better to use 3rd party software.
I have tried pressing and holding over the attachment but I just get a blank menu - one item high - but with no text. When I select the one entry, the menu just disappears.
I'm using the Vodafone R2A ROM. Can anyone else test to see if the attachment menu works?
Hmm, it seems pressing and holding the stylus over a doc file (ie a file which opens fine) gives me a "save as", but when doing it over an "unknown" file (ie "docx"), I get a blank menu with no save as and clicking on the empty menu does nothing - so this looks like intended behaviour. Really crap imho, I should be able to save a file to the memory stick if I want, even if the phone can't do anything with it.
Yeah, strange.
In fact all the .docs should be saved as .doc. I mean .docx format is still not widely supported, so can your company just change it?
Anyway, it's better to use a 3rd party app for this...
Yeah, I'll recommend they change but it's going to be hard persuading that many people

Right....I will check soon some other software for it...
docx and xlsx ARE supported on the X1
Although you'll find most of your customers and friends don't have support for it on their machines.
You can make your phone save files as .doc by default instead of .docx by going in to Word -> Menu -> Options... -> Default template: Word 97-2003 Document (.doc)
However not sure why Exchange isn't allowing you to save the .docx or open them.
As an update, I use Seven for my push email with Gmail.
Just sent a .docx file to my phone and it was able to download and then open the file in Word Mobile.
Thank you. You've just confirmed what I had always been told (part of the reason I got an Xperia).
It's really frustrating!
Sounds like a problem with your exchange server.
I don't use one so can't really help but I have sent and received docx files to my X1 with ease.
How about trying a different email client such as flexmail (webis) it's commercial but very good and supports imap.
there's a trial available so it might be worth seeing if that works.
Afternoon all...
I you might tell I'm very new to XDAdevelopers, the folks at Inkino suggested I take a look and get your advice as I've just taken the plunge and replaced my creaking Palm T3 witha shiney new HTC Touch HD and working being what is is I'm stuck with Lotus Notes 8 as a "productivity tool".
I'm somewhat grumpy to find that haven't dug very deep into my pocket for the HD and less deeply for the Sync "middle-ware" IBM EasySync Pro that the two won't talk and the whole exercise looks like a sectacular waste of money.
During the first sync, while loading EasySync Pro into the PDA memory (not the card) I get this message on the PDA:
cesetup.dll
"Unable to launch \Windows\211\XCPCSyncSvr.exe : Error 2"
I've tried tweaking the registry "HKLM - Security - Policies - Policies - 0000101b" to a "1", with no effect. I spoken with HTC support and they blame IBM, IBM are blaming HTC and WM6.1.
Not good -
Is there a tested solution ?
To recap
HTC Touch HD running WM6.1 -> Ibm EasySync Pro v4.2.6 -> Lotus Notes 8
I want to sync "Calendar", "Contacts", "Memos" and "To Dos" - not Email.
Any help or advide would be greatfully received...
Yours VeryGrumpy...
There's a lot of discussion about WM6.1 "security policies" - is the issue that EasySync Pro doesn't have a recognised Certificate ?
MS -vs- IBM ?
As a heads up
I think you'll be hardpressed to find much help on the topic, as I don't think Lotus Notes plays nice with wm.
Though I'd like to see lotus notes calander/email on wm as well
I use Lotus Notes (6.5 - I know!) at work. I use a piece of software (not free) called companionlink to sync to a google account.
Until recently I used OggSync to sync my Google account with my Touch HD, but have just started trying Googles Activesync client for Calendar and contacts.
The best I've seen is mNotes from Commontime (again not free) - it can even give you push syncronisation if your IT department will play ... if not then there's a desktop version.
The other approach I've tried is to sync my blackberry (supplied by the company and synced with Lotus Notes) to a google account and the Touch HD to the google account as well.
Not used it but emoze also claims to play with Lotus Notes, so it might be worth checking that out?
Solution in my case
Hello mate,
I had the same problem and here how I fixed it.
First of all start with a fresh installation.
1. Remove EasySync from your PC
2. Uninstall EasySync from you HD
3. After that navigate to \Windows\211 and delete the folder 211.
You will not be able to do it right away so you will need to rename to 211v and then back again to 211. Once you do this, delete the folder.
4. Reinstall and it should work.
Now the tricky part that happens when you restart your HD.
Download MortScript( http://sto-helit.de/index.php?module=download&action=view&entry=65 ). You can read in the website to get more info for this app. if you are not already familiar with it. It basically allows you to run batch files.
After that open notepad and copy paste this piece of "code" and save it as XCPCSyncSvr_101.mscr and put it in \windows\startup folder but make sure you delete the application start up link in the \windows\startup
Rename("\Windows\211","\Windows\211v")
Rename("\Windows\211v","\Windows\211")
Run("\Windows\211\XCPCSyncSvr.exe")
If(ProcExists("XCPCSyncSvr.exe"))
SleepMessage(3,"XCPCSyncSvr started")
Else
Message("XCPCSyncSvr NOT started!")
EndIf
This will do the trick. Make sure that you will do this procedure before you restart your HD.
If something is unclear let me know to clarify it.
(I found the solution in a search long time ago, so credit to them)
Please let me know, how this worked for you.

Am working Lotus Notes with EasySync Pro with absolutely no problems . Also the calendar in WM is very good, as you can see the attendees and also the topic which a meeting created in Notes includes.
I will post a screenshot later today.

Message("XCPCSyncSvr NOT started!")
EndIf
This will do the trick. Make sure that you will do this procedure before you restart your HD.

Superb - it worked first time...
I wasn't too sure about the MortScript install being new to WM devices but it all came together
THANK YOU !!!
@ verygrumpy
Am really glad that it worked out for you

Here are some screenshots from my calendar sync with notes. Unfortunately am not using email sync.
I am a Lotus Notes Administrator at work just had a read of this thread.
Has your IT department investigated Lotus Traveler.
Push email, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Journal synching and pushing for lotus domino servers to Windows mobile or symbian devices.
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/lotus/products/notes/traveler.html
We use this at work with HP Ipaqs instead of blackberry or BES (as this is free if you already have a notes licence so the only cost is the hardware of the device which you have already)
and its very very good expecially if your company is running a 8.5 domino server where encryption, notes rich text and even sametime (instant messaging) can be gotten working.
Jeremy
You can also consider the use of mNotes from Cadenza.
It i not free, but works really well
How?

Jeremy how do you push it? Do you need to connect with vpn? Because in my case i have to connect to the company's vpn (split tunneling vpn) and then to retrieve my mail.

I use Traveller myself on my company phone (TyTn 2) and it's a great piece of software.
I have never a lot of success with VPN connections on WM, but that said I've never really tried that hard at it either. If you can establish a VPN connection on your device then it should work quite happily.
The best solution would be to find someone in your IT department who would be interested in getting it rolled out. If Notes / Domino is your corporate mail platform and you have a number of workers with WM phones this shouldn't be hard.
Traveller itself can run over HTTPS and uses Domino authentication so it's fairly secure and forwarding it's ports through the firewall offers very little risk.
Whatever you do it's going to involve your IT dept. as the software has to be installed on a server, but the installation is easy enough that I rolled it out in about 15 minutes.

Hello mate,
I had the same problem and here how I fixed it.

I'm a Notes consultant and have Traveller working beautifully with our VPN. Our server is Domino 8.5 but it is designed to work with 8.0 also. The Traveller install was very easy and can be freely installed on Domino servers. I have an HTC S620 with WM6.0. I had awful trouble getting a PPTP VPN connection to work and finally gave up (seems to be an issue with PPTP client in WM6.0). However, it works really well with an L2TP connection with certificates. It automatically syncs your mail, calendar, and tasks. If you use Actions\Synchronize Address Book and Actions\Synchronize Journal while in your mail , it will also sync your contacts and personal journal. It can auto-sync or you can do it manually. Mostly I do it manually over wi-fi but it works on GPRS too. I've chucked out my Blackberry in favour of this solution.
Thanks a lot for this workaround!! Just installed it and works pretty fine!
I was looking for something like that for almost four month
One way feasible is the above way, thanks.
And I found that if not run TF3D, there is no suh issue.
if you want to go a step further with notes, try to look into Onebridge.
it will require to put some additional infrastructure to your notes environment, but at the same time you can make really secure access.
this will enable your users to sync thru gprs, wi-fi, etc. with home notes servers. infrastructure could be distributed, access gateways could be installed in different countries for your notes environment.
scalable, relaible solution for your Windows Mobile, Apple iPhone, Symbian Nokia and SonyEricsson, Palm OS, and OMA DS/SyncML, to sync with Notes and also with exchange.
regards,
won't be cheap
Try to use MNotes

to moukis >>> hey bro, any explanation why the need to rename and execute separately? The difference between the mortscript and the .lnk is only the 'rename' line. I tried and it worked perfectly. Just want to know
Hi,
i love my hd2 and have worked thought the camera and generic tweaks here. So glad to be away from my omnia and back with a htc and the knowledge here.
I have 2 remaining outstanding tweaks that i havent been able to find decent solutions to by searching here. The first is setting the emails to always show web pictures, i find it frustrating to have to select web pictures eachtime i view an email and as i am on an unlimited data tarriff i dont mind the data. How do i get this to work?
The second is sorting all my contacts by first name then second name. I am not sure if using googlemail as my exchange server, the HTC software or the microsoft sync is changing this but i am pretty tired of going through every day sorting my contacts correctly. Is there a setting somewhere once and for all to force contacts first name and then second name?
As an aside i never sync my phone via usb as i dont use outlook/windows and linux is happy enough pulling everything from googlemail.
Thanks;
Andy
I'll only answer for what I Know.
QUOTE: I am pretty tired of going through every day sorting my contacts correctly. Is there a setting somewhere once and for all to force contacts first name and then second name?
ANSWER: You will enjoy this tiny freeware software that does just that: almost instantly order your contacts by first name (or middle name or last name). Look here for Contact Changer. You run it once and 1 second after, all your contacts are sorted. The downside is that it doesn't change standard setting of the program, which means that the default order will still be LAST NAME first. But since the application is free and quick...
It sounds like your sync source is taking precedence over the phone. If you edit something on the phone and it gets replaced by the backup then that's wrong.
You need to check your server, not the phone.
I have the exact same problem. I don't use data connection (too expensive). There MUST be a way to sort contacts by there first name.... please
Helle
Hi HelleM,
If you go to the contact you want to change, select edit contact. scroll down to the bottom and select more and you can change it with the file as field.
If you can't download the program then you will have to do this with all of your contacts.
Or you could go to marketplace and download Contact Changer by Øystein Kalvø Stephansen. This app allows you to change the sorting in all the contacts. It's very cheap also.
I got it and it works fine. Don't get why HTC did not put that as a choise?

Aaahhh so many basic things that HTC should heve put as a choise...
So has anyone worked out how i can get outlook email to auto download the pictures for me in emails? It seems a pointless click each time i open an email!
d'oh wrong thread
yeah the email pics issue drives me nuts. it should be a choice in settings somewhere not ask every time. never seen a solution anywhere either. surprising for something that everybody seems to hate and its such a simple little thing, you wold think it'd of been fixed long ago right?
