getting Win XP Pro to recognize my device... - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

This is probably really remedial but I'm a Mac user so it's foreign to me. I had an Imate Jam working great with Active Sync 3.8 on Win XP Pro.
Now I have the MDA and have installed Active Sync 4.1 (even tried 4.2). When I plug in the MDA, Windows makes the 'donk' sound to advise something's been connected but it just shows a 'Generic RNDIS' device connected and the add hardware wizard says the device cannot start (yes it's turned on).
I don't see any drivers on the T-Mobile CD that came with the product....is there something else I have to do to install this thing so Active Sync recognizes it?
<edit> I've attached a picture of the hardware manager...
When I uninstall the driver and re-plug in the device, it's immediately recognized as a Windows Mobile-based device but then I get the error: "A problem occured during hardware installation. Your device may not work properly." This happens each time I try it, even after a restart.
thanks,
Tim

hi buddy
i've had that XPerience when i've connected my brand new prophet (o2 xda neo) to my pc via usb 2.0 hub. i was going nuts, because all older partnerships to devices i've established before i've bought the hub did work... if you do the same - change it! at least one time you should connect the ppc directly to an available usb connector on your pc until you have established a partnership. also i would recommend to install active sync 4.2 beta (use the search here to find the link), it fixes some connecting trouble... let us know if any of these tips helped at all or if you found your own solution...
cheers, lutz

Try disabling your firewalls these are the usual culprits to stop syncing. You can add activesync to the list of acceptable programs if you use something like zone alarm firewall etc.. I have the windows firewall disabled.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried connecting directly to the USB port -- no dice. I only have the Windows Firewall which was already showing ActiveSync as an allowed application but I turned it off and still nothing changes.
The device manager reports:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
The troubleshooter basically instructs me to delete the device and try again, which I've done a dozen times, restarted both phone & computer. Still nothing.

Another trick that worked for me, if you have a network socket even if you dont have a network cable attached, enable network connections on your computer and try again. Whenever you change settings on your computer uninstall activesync and reinstall it. Hope that helps.

AS not connecting
For some reason, I had to repair/re-install AS. After re-booting, XP Pro/AS 4.2Beta recognized the Wizard again (Cing 8125) as all was well.
It's been stable the past few days, I think because I'm not trying to sync at work (I just cancel and use Guest).
Not a great answer, but good luck...
paul

Thanks, still no go. I do have an active Internet connection. I'm not so sure this has anything to do with ActiveSync as the computer doesn't even get to a successful install of the hardware....it always says a problem occured and the hardware may not work properly.

Succes...almost. I left the phone plugged in and restarted (after deleting the hardware profile) and when the PC rebooted it made that oh-so-sweet ActiveSync connected sound. Then AS quit and I was back to where I started in the post before....doh!
Just for kicks I plugged in my old Jam and it worked just fine, the hardward was recognized right away.
This leads me to believe something may be hosed on my MDA? Weird because it charges fine and everything else is great...it was a brand new unopened box from the local T-Mo retailer.
Hmmm...

BNDIS Connector
Guys,
Not sure that this is the solution, but this is what happened to me too. The way that Active Sync 4.x talks to a WM5 device is as a network device, not a USB device as in WM2003/Active Sync 3.x.
So, what you need to do is make sure that your PPC, which when connected to the PC shows up in the Device manager as a BDNIS network adapter, is to ensure that the BNDIS connector has an IP Address.
The easiest way to do this, connect the PPC to the PC and here the ping sound.
Right click on the My Network Places icon and select Properties
In the Network Connections Window, select Views > Details.
Find the Network Adapter that has the Device Name of the BNDIS connector.
Right click on this Network Adapter
Ensure that Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is checked.
My guess is that it is not checked
If it is, check the properties for the Internet Protocol (TCP..) and ensure that DHCP is selected.
Hope this helps -

This happened to me too. ActiveSync 4.1 worked perfectly until my WinXP Machine crashed and I had to reload.
When I reloaded, ActiveSync acting in the same manner.
I'll try this tonight and see if works for me. Hope so.

You can still use your mac & missing sync 2.5 alpha & for most things it will work fine, but functionality is limited & sync only via BT. - it does ical, Address Book & tasks & time sync. & you can also install programs & documents as well. for media I just copy the songs straight to my mini sd card via a card reader.
Some programs will only install via windows, but as I have an intel iMac I run windows as well & activesync so far works well for me, but I have to disable the contacts/tasks/calendar or I end up with dupicate entries etc.

jkossowsky - awesome info. The problem I'm having is that the device does not show up in the network adapters. When I plug it in, it tells me there was a problem with the device and it could not be started.

Device Recognized
You need to install Active Sync 4.x before plugging in your device.
So, to be really really safe, go to Device Manager, look at the Unrecognized Devices section, find your unrecognized device and right click on it and remove it.
Install Active Sync 4.x
(if you already installed it, uninstall it, reboot and reinstall it again)
Once it is installed, plug in your device and it should be recognized as a Network Adapter.
If Active Sync does not automatically find the device, follow the instructions from my post above.

Uninstall Activesync, reboot, Reinstall Activesync, Reboot, plug in device.
pray
if that fails, attached are the proper INF files, manually update them to this, and see if that helps.

Thanks for the info, I'll give this a try. The thing that really killed me is that my old iMate Jam connected fine during this whole ordeal.
I exchanged the Wizard for a new one and still had the same issue. I finally tried syncing it on a new laptop running Win XP Pro and was able to get it to connect.
I'll try the suggestions above on the previous machine to see if I can get it to recognize the phone. Atleast I know the phone is not defective now.

Darn, no dice on that manual driver install...I get 'the specified location does not contain information about your device'

Hmmmm....
You may want to have a look @ support.microsoft.com
There's an issue with 4.x ActiveSync [AS] and Windows Firewall. Even though AS is listed in the exceptions, it doesn't work properly......
See here.......... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx

I had this also - bugged me for weeks.
I found that the AS suite I downloaded from the MS site - regardless of version - would never find the Wizard. Only when I installed the version on the CD that came with the dvice would it connect - even though I think it was only AS 4.0.
Although I imagine you've aalready tried the CD version if you have one...

Activesync 4.1 - not working

Can anyone help please?
I cannot get my xda mini to sync. Basically it just keeps running and nothing happens.
I have researched a lot of threads which refer to setting up a dummy server connection for what I presume is the the "exchange server" which I have attempted - is this a false IP address please?
On my PC, activesync diplays Exchange Server and my XDA with a list of the sync items below.
I keep getting a message on the XDA saying it cannot retrieve an IP address for the connection. Sometimes when I sync the try to connect via GPRS
I do have a wifi connection set up which now works (most of the time).
TIA.
I have the same problem as you with my QTEK 9100. Sometimes it works to connect the device to my portable computer (Compaq Presario 2800) via ActiveSync but mostly it does not. ActiveSync just keep looking for the device but doesnt find it.
I have also tried after that I have turned off the firewall and antivirus software, but it still doesnt work. The few (2-3 times) that it did work I had my firewall and antivirus running.
Anyone have an idea what I should do? It's a brand new QTEK 9100 (just got it a few days ago) with ROM 1.3.7.13 SVE, ROM date 9/29/05. Since I can't connect my device to the computer I can't upgrade the ROM.
turn off your firewall
disable your onboar intell wifi card if you have one
Does this happen to your device when you connect to Activesync immediatly after soft-resetting the device?
I have a similar problem, but I have no problems when I connect to AS for the first time, if I try connecting again before performing a Soft-reset AS won't find the device and the device becomes unasable, only soft-reset solves this problem.
Anyone else with these symptoms?

Yes it is the same problem no matter of the soft reboots. The only times I get it to work is when I have reinstalled the activesync 4.1 software on my laptop, after a reboot (of the laptop) it does not work; instead it only display a network icon with "Limited or no connectivity" (this is also without both firewall and antivirus installed) when I connect the device. The result is that AS can't find the device...
My theory is that it somehow looses the USB drivers installed with ActiveSync 4.1 when I reboot the computer. Anyone know how to fix this? Which (dll?) files belong to the USB drivers? I might be able to manually replace them in the correct path if I find that out...
any news??? I just met the same problem
simple enuf chaps...
i just met the same problem and the fix is pretty simple...
remove a/s 4.1
re-install a/s 3.7 / 3.8.1
re-establish the partnership
re-install 4.1
How do you get a connection between a WM5 device and ActiveSync 3.7 or 3.8?
I cannot get a partnership.
Is this because a WM5 uses IP-protocol for the connection?
thanks
Peter
I am using Dopod 838, the asia version of Qtek9100.
I also seems to have problem on activesync 4.1 which keep on sync and fail to connect. When it fail. I will try
1) In Windows Task Manager, kill wcescomm.exe
2) Kill everything in wizard
3) manually turn-on activesync4.1 on pc again.
4) connect wizard with PC again..
I just bought my phone for 2 days and i have to try a few more times to confirm it really helps.. may be you can give it a try too.

you will need AS 4.0 and above for all WM5 devices
You might want to check device manager when your device is hooked up via USB and make sure there are no exclamation marks on your handheld device.
I have a laptop and I only installed ActiveSync 4.1 and it works fine. I've even re-imaged my laptop since getting the phone and wasn't a problem second time around. I also installed 4.1 on my work PC and it works fine there too.
Not sure if you can use anything older than 4.0. (Not sure the reasons why)
At work I tried to use 3.8 (Just for the hell of it) but 4.0 updates all the USB drivers and stuff. Anything below 4.0 will not recognize WM 5.0 devices as jfran said. After installing 4.x I don't know the reason or need to uninstall then install something older then uninstall and reinstall 4.x.
It should work straight after install. However I do NOT know what happens if by chance you had an older version of ActiveSync then tried upgrading to 4.x. Should work though. I know people have had success upgrading from 3.7 and 3.8 to 4.1 to use the newer Dell Axim x51v which have WM 5.0 here in my environment.
Thanks everybody for your replies,
it was after hamish_dy tip I wanted to know how to get an connection between AS3.x and a WM5 device, since I haven't been able to do so. And I also have read that WM5 needs AS 4.x in order to sync.
Have had my Qtek9100 now for a week, and have been studied this forum in detail for a solution on my problem.
Previously I had a Qtek S100 which synced with my laptop together with AS 3.8. My company uses Groupwise as e-mail system, but with Outlook 2002 also installed on laptop I got it working (also after some days of trial).
Now with my Qtek9100 nothing happends when I plug in the USB-cable. Well not true, it will connect with an IP-address and I can from AS see the filestructure on my Qtek, BUT nothing starts syncing (calendar, contacts, e-mails,etc.). I watch task-manager but nothing kicks in. Previously with my S100, mapisp32.exe always kicked in and was the magic component between outlook and groupwise. With AS 4.1 everything is dead in task-mgr. I also receive the 85010014-error message sometimes.
Have uninstalled AS 4.1 several times, cleaned out registry of AS keys, rebooted, installed AS again, reinstalled outlook, turned firewall off, turned antivirus off, soft-reseted my qtek, and so on. Have downloaded the swedish version of AS 4.1, since my Qtek has swedish language, and thought that was the reason. But no. Soon out of options and ready to take my new qtek back to the dealer.
Any help from anyone is very much appreciated.
thx in advance.
Peter

One thing you should try before sending your device in is to try sycnching up on a clean machine, i.e. (a freshly imaged machine)
I'm assuming initiating a manual sync does nothing?

No, manual sync does nothing.
If I can't find any solution before mid-next-week, I will find a workstation at work and load only the minimal components/applications needed and try to nail down the issue, as a last try. I work with IT myself so I'm not keen to reimage my laptop, there are just too many things to reinstall.
thanks for the advice!

Active Sync Sync via USB Resolved (well for me anyway)
Over the last month I have not been able to sync my Wizard to my laptop via USB. Via bluetooth worked a treat, but I was not able to upgrade ROM via btooth.
This morning, completely by accident I resolved the issue with USB sync'ing to Active sync 4.1.
This works for me:
1. Connect Wizard to laptop via USB (you will get the usual problem, with ActiveSync saying "Connecting" and nothing else
2. Whilst phone is still connected via USB perform soft reset on phone
3. The laptop system tray should display "Found new USB device" and then say "Pocket PC USB Sync found"
4. When the laptop / pc has finished installing software and displays "Your new hardware is installed and ready to use" Disconnect the USB cable from your Wizard.
5. Wait a couple of seconds and then reconnect your Wizard via USB and hopefully it will work.
Please let me know if this works for anyone else!
One more thing you could try before throwing it back at the salesman is to check your network connections.
Go to Control Panel and select network connections - make sure you are set to view details and look for the "Local Area Connection" that has a description of "Windows Mobile-based Device". On mine it is "Local Area Connection 3". You may have to scroll to the right to see the description.
Right click the relevant connection and then click "properties". Make sure that the following entries ONLY have a tick next to them.
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
For some reason on mine none of them were initially selected :?
Click OK, when I did this it started syncing straight away!
Good luck!
I am also having a problem with activesync 4.1, up until now i have been able to sync perfectly via bluetooth or usb. However now when i try and sync activesync on my PC says connecting and nothing happens!!
I have tried everything, uninstalled, reinstalled, installed on my laptop (same problem)....
Given i have the same problem on 2 different PC's i am starting to think that its actually the Mini S and not the PC thats the problem. I feel a hard reset coming.............

Hard reset has done the trick, so it turns out all problems may not be down to our pc's......
The same thing happens for me sometimes. What I have found ou this helps.
Unplug pda from sync cable. Kill all active programs on the pda. Plug in sync cable again. Viola! It syncs.
I have the same trouble, activesync just says connecting and thats it, i havent found any particular reason for it. SR does not help, just HR which is kind of overkill. Im really glad for the sprite backup software. I have tried all different things i could think of while i couldnt sync and nothing helped. I have allready about 3 HR after me.

Vista connection problems

Hi,
My hdd gave up in my laptop other day bought another 1 installed vista
now im having connection problems both with bluetooth and via usb with my
t-mobile ameo
does any 1 know if there is a update some where to get them working again
ive done a windows update and installed windows mobile device centre
thanks
Im running Vista business edition and had no problems at all - even updated my rom!
What do you get when you plus the Ameo in? Does it show up in the Device centre?
sync centre has just got the usual offline folder
windows mobile device centre 6.1 has the mobile device settings and the not
connected bit at the bottom
its so weired it all synced b4 theres nothing different installed setup etc...
on the device it says "to synchronize this device, you must install activesync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer"
thanks
How Wierd.... mine lliterally just fired up autoomatically.
In your PPC, go to SETTING -> CONNECTIONS -> USB TO PC. Untick the "ENABLE ADVANCED NETWORK FUNCTIONALITY". Remove the connection by unplugging your USB cable and the plugging it again. No guarantee this will work, but you may try.
IT Works
i tried the unticking the advance option still didnt work...
i thought about the user account control in vista this came as my mobile
data card for my laptop wasnt installed correctly and after checking out the
install log and it saying access control n a load of other stuff saying
permission denied etc.... i thought id turn vistas user account control off this
fixed my data card problem ......i then pluged my t-mobile ameo in and hey
presto it picked it up as a black HTC Advantage due to my mobile 6 rom
upgrade
I believe Active Sync won't work on Visat, you need Mobile Device Center, available here

Makes sense as I have crappy user control switched off as it annoyed me greatly!

We had downloaded the upgrade device driver and the Windoze Vista replacement for ActiveSync... as Vista dictates on first connection.
We got the sound effect acknowledging USB connection, but Windoze Mobile Device Centre obstinately ignored the connection.
We tried the tricks suggested by the mages and sages, like adding ports etc. to the firewall, and deleting the driver in the Vista Device Manager... forcing it to re-install. None of it worked for the Ameos.
We removed the Mobile Device Centre and the upgraded driver, resolving to connect to the Ameos only via our XP Tablet instead.
It seemed that the USB connection was being made, but something else was blocking it.
Then this possible solution (reproduced here) caught our eye.
It was the work of a moment to follow the path and remove the check in that item.
Imagine our surprise and delight when we connected to Windoze Vista Ultimate again... and remember that there is no upgraded driver or Mobile Device Centre installed now... and we got the "what shall I do with this device" dialogue box. We checked the item to open the device in a folder each time and... it did... and does... just that.
We do not need synchronisation for our use of the Ameos since all of the significant email and document traffic occurs on the laptops and Tablet, but we can appreciate why someone would want that Mobile Device Centre to be re-installed. We won't be doing that anytime soon though.
Congratulations to you cayotte, and this forum as a whole.
BTW, I read about the problems folks have with the Microdrive. We have two Ameos. One works great with the Microdrive, the other one does not, and we have to leave it for data files only.
The older unit is the one which works well.
We already had the User Account Control turned off so I cannot say if that had any effect.

At a loss with activesync

I'm at a complete loss with activesync. I've done everything I can think of and I can't get my computer to see my 8525. I've reinstalled activesync and hard resent my device. When i plug in it says
one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows did not recongnize it
usb root hub (2 ports)
- unknown device
- usb composite device
Am I missing some sort of driver somehow? I don't know what to do..please help.
Hey i had the same problem. Is this your first time installing/using activesync??
Well what I did was this:
-Install activesync 4.2 from the CD (CD that came included w/unit).
-Uninstall activesync 4.2 (don't delete any drivers installed by the CD)
-Install activesync 4.5 (download it from Microsoft Website)
-Plug in your 8525 to the PC via USB cable, and your PC should NOW recognize it.
This is what I did and it helped. There may be a better/alternate way in doing this, but I FINALLY got Activesync to work!
Oh and see if you can help me with the prob. that I'm having.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383065
Ya I can't find the CD that came with my phone for the life of me.
ok found disc and tried that. Nothing. Could my phone be broken?
heres what I had to do to get AS working again.
Delete the current version of AS from your PC
Go into c:/wondows/program files and delete the AS folder (Windows may not let you delete some DLL's.
Go into the registry and delete any AS entries you can find, or do what I did and use Ccleaner registry clean up program (Google it, it's freeware)
Restart the PC
Install AS 4.2 from the AT&T/Cingular disk.
Install AS 4.5 from MS.
Hook up your 8525 and all should be well.
Tried that....didn't work.
Still hoping someone has some advice. I've tried two different usb cables and used different ports as well so it's not that.
quick update...
I searched through the forums and googled a few things and from what I can tell other people have had this problem and not found any solution. I am considering trying bluetooth but I don't have bluetooth for my PC...can i get some sort of adapter? Also...Is there a specific driver I can download for the HTC hermes that might fix this issue?
Yea your situation sounds like the one I used to have.
Do you have a firewall?? If so DISABLE it. I have COMODO and even though I would press "accept", the drivers wouldn't install completely.
This is what I did:
-Start your PC.
-Uninstall Activesync through the Add/Remove.
-Delete the Microsoft Activesync folder in the Programs folder.
-Restart your PC
-Wait till your firewall loads up. Disable it.
-Go through the procedures I mentioned in my 1st post.
Oh and make sure you have internet access. I'm not 100% sure if internet access helps, but it could help with the drivers.
Even though I just got my 8525, I don't mind helping someone
tried that. no go. I think i'm going to just have to get a new phone.
Did you try disabling the Advanced Network Functionality?
START -> SETTINGS -> CONNECTIONS -> USBtoPC
Yes. when I do that it makes windows see my device, but windows does not know what my device is. Thats why I think some sort of driver might be missing, but I don't know how to fix that.

So... with the RNDIS checkbox UNCHECKED and your FIREWALL OFF, you get the USB Device not recognized error? In that case, ENABLE it and look at these other settings:
1. In the PPC open ActiveSync, then select Connections... from the menu and make sure the Synchroinize ALL PC's using this connection: USB option is checked.
2. In Windows (XP) check your ActiveSync connection settings (see image).
3. Did you try the AS 4.5 Connection Trouble Shooter?
4. You should also try another computer, just to double-check.
There is no driver to make AS work, AFAIK. Question: What happens when the RNDIS checkbox is enabled? Does Windows report an error or simply doesn't connect?
Tried all of those things, still device not recognized. I do need to try another computer but unfortunatly do not have access to one.
When i click that RNDIS checkbox nothing of interest happens. If it's clicked on when i connect windows very briefly see's the device (although it's not recongized) and then the little symbol for unknown device on my taskbar dissapears. If I then click it off windows will again see the device and the little symbol on my taskbar reappears, but it still doesn't recongnize the device.
Wow. That's a strange problem you have there. At this point, it could be a hardware issue. You could try installing WM5Storage or CardExport just to check if the USB hardware is working (bad cable?). Also, try checking your PPC registry, specifically, HKLM\Drivers\Usb\FunctionDrivers. It should look similar to mine (see pictures attached). I believe these keys tell Windows what to do with the device when connected thru USB. Other than that, try a flashing a new ROM from the SD Card, something like VP3G's which is known to work correctly.
Branden,
I have this problem from time to time. My solution is as follows: make sure the usb cable is connected to both the phone and the computer, even though you are getting the unrecognised error message.
Reboot the phone (soft reset) while still attached to the usb cable. Do not rush anything. Input any unlock passwords when prompted by the system but be aware that booting up can be slow, so give it time.
Once the phone has booted up you should then see activesync kick in. You may have to try this several times before it works but it always works for me.
One thing I would advise is to disable/deinstall any auto locking software, eg S2U2. These tend to kick in on long synchronisations and throw the usb status out.
Hope this helps.

So any further suggestions would be doubley appreciated
Tried everything mentioned since my last post and still nothing. Also I am now getting the white screen issue again (Which I fixed originally by buying another hermes that had a crushed usb port and swapping the screens out). I think I may be about ready to move on to another phone as this is now my third major problem with this model of phone (although one of the problems may be an issue with XP).
I had the same problem. I updated my WM5 to WM6....and it stoped syncing with my computer. Went back to exchange it. Later, I learned it wasn't the problem with the phone syncing.....here's how you can fix the problem.
Click on Start>Settings>Connection Tab>USB to PC
Uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality"
Click on "ok"
I just upgraded to wm6 again and followed these steps....now it syns fine.
It worked for me.....hopefully it will work for you.
Peace

Vista Mobile Device Sync Problems

I have search everything here and on HTC and on Verizon and here is where I am stuck. Using DCD 3.2.0 (but had same problem with 3.1.6) and latest Radio Rom. It seems to connect just fine to a Windows XP activesync 4.5 computer but will not connect to the Mobile Device Center on Vista (32bit).
Looking into the device manager I do see the Mobile Devices/HTC USB Sync driver is active but I do not see the Portable Devices/XV 6800 driver at all.
I do have the "Enable Advanced Network Functioinality" unchecked. I have uninstalled all the drivers and Mobile Sync software and rebooted everything. I even have tried the USB splitter. It seems to half recognize the phone in Vista but the other half is the Mobile Sync part. I do get an error on the phone that says "To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer." This is sooooo frustrating as it worked one time on Vista, I think either DCD 3.0.x or maybe earlier and now it only works on XP.
What am I missing here??????

Have you tried a different usb port on the PC, or a different PC running Vista 32 bit? Mine works fine in Vista & XP.

I have tried different USB ports and no Joy. It looks like it recognizes it as the HTC USB Sync driver shows up and it makes a noise that it found a USB device. I don't have another Vista machine but maybe a 64bit windows 2003 server would be the same. Probably not. It did work once a few DCD Roms ago but not since.
Random Disconnects
I am having a similar problem. Evern since moving to DCD 3.12, I have had a similar problem. I can manage to get connected sometimes but it will randomly disconnect.
For a while I switched to No2Chem and didnt experience the problem.

Can you post what devices show up when you are connected?
When I went from 3.1.4 to 3.2.0 I started having issues with Sync Center (Vista Ultimate 32-bit) as well. If I restart the PC it works fine for a while, but then suddenly you hear the USB device disconnect noise and thats all she wrote.
The device's charge LED is on, but it doesn't show up in vista anymore unless you restart the PC.
With 3.1.4 I never had this issue.
I wrote up an ActiveSync/mobile Device Manager Troubleshooting Guide in the Wiki, did you try all of those steps?

Go under settings/connections/USB to PC and uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality and see if that works for you on Vista.
also make sure you check your network connections, and make sure the Remote NDIS Connection (This is your Pocket PC, Smartphone) And have the IP Configuration set to automatic, as i forgot to put it back after using it as a modem for my laptop. This also prevents active sync from working.
Just a thought, as i had a similar problem, and my fix was reverting back IP settings to Automatic. Try this if you haven't

DV8, I have tried both on and off. It seems that off will act like the PPC with it on it acts like the remote NDIS network adapter like if you want to teather it.
ranmasaotome510, If I don't select the advanced network functioinality I never get the Remote NDIS Connection to change anything. All I get is the HTC USB Sync driver under the Mobile Devices and that is it. If I check the advanced network functionality I only get the Microsoft Widnows Mobile Remote Adapter driver and not the HTC USB sync driver. Either way WESCOMM doesn't find the device.
I used the view hidden devices and removed everything I could find but I never can find this driver: Portable Devices\PocketPC to uninstall it. I have also uninstalled WMDC a couple of times and have downloaded and installed the latest. This works fine on XP with out fail. I am also using office 2007 but this did work on this Vista machine with an earlier ROM.
No clue if this is related, but I found two copies of Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface in device manager. One was operational and the other was not. I removed the one with the yellow bang on it and plugged in my phone. Immediately Sync Center saw it and allowed me to create a connection with the phone.
Dumb luck? Maybe.

Thanks for the try, I don't have that driver installed. I had IPv6 not checked and thought maybe that was it but no joy. Any other ideas out there?

This is just a shot in the dark, but have you tried any of the wireless sync options - either bluetooth or IR? I know that they aren't quite as fast or reliable, but it may be worth a shot.

Hello all together,
some days ago I have bought a new S710 Vox phone and had no luck with synchronizing it with my Vista PC. Same problem as jambrose.
Then I read the posting about Teredo Tunneling-Adapter, deleted it from my system, rebooted the PC and surprise, the connection to my Vox works fine. Thank you!
Greetings to all

So where did you find the adapter at? In the device manager under network?
Anyone?

Yes, I found it in the Device Manager under Network.
But, this works only few days. My PC normaly runs all around the day und so it works until yesterday when I had to reboot my system because I had installed a software update. After this reboot the S710 has the same problem again. Even the Teredo Tunneling Adapter is still not there.
I am , any other idea?

HELP!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot get this resolved to save my arse!
I have tried EVERYTHING...just spent 3 hours looking up stuff, and re-reading to try and find something.
What the problem is:
My Verizon XV6800 connects to my Vista laptop, but does not OPEN up WMDC. If I have "Advanced Function" unchecked, then my laptop finds my ppc when connected, but does not open up WMDC. On my phone, a little connection icon goes in the bottom tray. Other times, I get the "you do not have active sync 4.5 installed" error.
What I've tried:
Uninstalling/reinstalled
net localgroup add administrators etc.
I am at a loss.
I just want to sync my Mogul with my Vista Laptop, so that I can install apps and sync email! UGH!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you have a firewall running on your laptop? I had trouble connecting also since I have BitDefender running. I had to open up some ports to get it working. Also, prior to connecting the USB, I would exit the ActiveSync process. The connection will start a new instance of it automatically.

hd2 won't activesync

My ActiveSync won't Sync
I found with "Enable faster data synchronization check box" ON then doesn't even start ActiveSync on PC. Instead the LAN icon starts searching for an IP.
if OFF then it tries then ActiveSync says ERROR code 85010001
this page
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/exchange_errors.php
says An invalid HTTP communication or protocol syntax occurred.
reboot doesn't help.
Are you sync to Exchange of PC files?
if Exchange, try turn off push update, sync, and turn it back on.
sounds like it's stuck in modem mode or something.. have you tried switching between modes? e.g. put it in modem mode and disk drive and then activesync again..
no Exchange
turned off all except contact/calendar
tried disk drive and then activesync but no good
then tried turning bluetooth off and it worked with with "Enable faster data synchronization check box" off
so still not perfect
The more complex, the more can go wrong. Recently my HD2 has not been running activesync on connection. It is a problem after I have hibernated my PC, but also randomly at other times after a disconnect and reconnect.
Following hte advice above I've tried the change to modem, change to disk and back to activesync, but that did not help. Unchecking the "Enable faster data synchronization check box" has now allowed it to connect.
While activesync was unable to connect, I could still connect using a brilliant little program, sadly not recently updated, called mymobiler. That lets me control the HD2 from my PC< and do screen dumps as well. So how come that would connect but MS Activesync would not? And it was not a new install, I've had that since my first few days of the HD2 and worked well until the last couple of weeks, when this issue has become increasingly annoying.
While activesync was telling me I was disconnected, in the Windows 7 Devices and Printers there was an icon for a "Generic RNDIS" but nothing else about it. When on the HD2 I go back into USB to PC and check the tickbox for "Enable faster data synchronization" that icon reappears. Maybe disabling then enabling this check box has sorted it. Time will tell.
Hmmm...
It is not a new issue with activesync and htc phones. This thread is a year old.
In fact a search of hte web shows htis is common across several makes of phone.
Damn. When I installed HTC's latest hotfix for SMS, it soft reset the HD2.
On restart, the HD2 was not recognised by the PC, but it does show in Devices and Printers as the generic RBIS. So; uncheck the "Enable faster data synchronization" and it appears on the PC as a Generic Serial device, then becomes a live device in the Mobile Device Centre. I guess we won't be using faster then.
What I don;'t understand is why both of the showings in the Devices and Printers are Generic. Surely there is a driver?
argh, now it's broken again, had BT on...
htc has no clue and suggests (again) that I just keep creating a new partnership each time I have this issue (daily)
Are you sync'ing to an external exchaneg server as well as locally?
I had an issue with mine that the external exchange and local seemed to clash some how, I deleted the external and all internal connections from the phone's active sync screen and then the local PCwas able to re sync, then added each of the other conections and made sure that there where no contradictions in the syncing rules?
Maybe not your issue but worth mentioning!

I regret this is incomprehensible. "nowt" means nothing, so you are saying that nothing is broken again. That would be good, not bad. Your post then stops part way through and concludes negatively against HTC, though for no reason whatsoever. Please could you repost with something that makes sense?
I have no exchange servers, just local PC,
but all errors are exchange related, so HTC say.
if you dont have an exchange server then remove it completely ftom the list of sync locations (i cant remember how you do this, but its the same screen where you select what you want to sync). ive found that if it isnt being recognised that removing the phone from device manager list in windows (deleting drivers/software if asked) and reconnecting the phone seems to work. i have my driver install set to use windows update to locate drivers so try this as well
HD2 won't activesync via bluetooth
My LEO do sync properly via USB. Not connect absolutely via BT.
my setting is :
internal GPS connect via COM4 to TomTom7, VisualGPSce, TutorAssist
and seems to be:
bluetooth port IN is COM1
bluetooth port OUT is COM2
In my Notebook the lonely Local port is COM5. No other one is available
ActiveSync Bluetooth connection is set on COM5
So i know this thread is way old but figured id give it a try. The screen cracked on my TP2 and I cant get WMDC to recognize my device to pull the data. I'm pretty sure that enable faster data synchronization is checked and my screens broken so i can't fix that. Is there another way I can access the phone? Any help is appreciated ty.
