GSPpocketmagic Problem... I now have TWO start menus? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I'm not sure if this is how GSP is supposed to function... When I click the Start ICON - I get the new GSP menu which I like. When I click on the word "START" I get the old menu, which is now redundant. Both menus work and operate fine... I just think perhaps it would run faster with the original one disabled.
Is there a fix for this?
Edit: This is on an O2 XDA Exec
Also - has anyone with the O2 unit used a non-O2 rom and got faster screen rotations? That's one feature that bugs the crap out of me
Also another note - is there anything like the E-Ten diallers that actually work on our phones? I just got a very small version of the keypad on the screen and had to remove it.

Question regarding M5000 today screen.

I have the exec jasjar and am wondering if I can add that nifty little menu on the left side of my today screen like on the M5000?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
Without installing that operator plug, you can use pocket Breeze, making the same think...and much...
?
Do you know where I can get that operator plug?
You're probably thinking of the orange operator plugin. You need to check your extended rom for something like eg hermes_uk_build_93_clock.cab (at least on my hermes).
But the plugin is distributed on this forum repackaged.

That side menu reduces features compared to Windows original today menu. Dang I like the Windows Media player on the front screen in minimized position ^^. That side menu is good for managing contacts and making a quick phone call. But I dont think you will be able to use it in future ROM's.
I searched and cant find it either on the forum or in the ext rom, can you point me in the right direction?

[Looking for] Today plugin to toogle wifi, radio and bluetooth

Hi all,
I'm looking for a small today plugin that would allow me to toogle wi-fi, bluetooth and radio at the touch of an icon. Simple, straightforward and lightweight.
I know there are already applications that do it, like Phoneweaver and others, or Vijay's Volubilis (command-line only), but I'm really looking after that simple and effective plugin -- I'm sure it has to exist somewhere.
And if one could customize the icons to use for the toggles, it would be heaven
Thanks a lot in advance !
Hi, this works good for me.
You can also look for BatteryStatus today plugin. It has an TrayLaunch, with I use to activate wlan, bluetooth (a2dp) and can also deactivate phone. Very customizable.

I think effcom is what you are looking for. Found on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1395099&postcount=1
This is my whirless.cab (Effcom)
Sorry, you're right. I didn't actually check out your attachment, just looked at the name.
yes effcom is the best one
effcom seems a perfect solution, thanks to all of you. Any chance there is a way to customize it so it uses icons instead of text ?
anyway to make that part of the systray instead of on the today screen?

Battery Status give you the option of placing Bluetooth, Wifi and Phone in the Systray. Very handy...and takes minimal space.
I tried that BatteryStatus, but it doesnt give me the "traylaunch" tab. i asked about that, but the developer couldnt assist me. if you can help me, i have a kaiser att tilt tytnii, many names.
Try SPB Phone Suitehttp://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/phonesuite/?en. It has a today plugin, that includes Radio On/Off, Bluetooth On/Off, WiFi On/Off and much more. This is in case your device is a pda phone of course.

disable orange branding

hi, I'm Ed, and ive got a big problem with my htc touch 3g, and i think its time to sort it out. Okay, my touch 3g is on orange (contract) and obviously i wanted the original touchflo 2d on it (Black and Blue-ish kind of theme) but, instead it gave me two crap choices of ORANGE BRANDED themes, the really awfull orange(TM) homescreen theme, or just a wierd black-on-white version of touchflo 2d. I chose the wierd touchflo, but honestly, i dont want either. I just want atleast the ORIGINAL M2D THEME, or the choice for others. Ive been trying to resolve this problem by using numerous options, ive downloaded Manilla 2D customizer, downloaded soo many themes (atleast 7 now) and none of them work, there is alway some problem with it, Ive tried nearly every recomended option. All I want, is to be able to just have a normal htc touch 3g software on it with a normal touchflo on it. I REALLY want to get rid of this orange(TM) branded stuff on it, (including that stupid 'unique manager') on it. Please, is there anybody that understands my problem, and can give me a step-by-step guide on how to do it. Please reply (PLEASE)
Hi Ed,
Though i don't have an Orange brand Jade i understand your problem; there are several threads on this forum about it.
If you really wanna get rid of all the orange stuff, there's no other choice i guess then to unlock your phone (which is not sim unlock) using HardSPL s you can flash another ROM.
Put on your reading glasses and start over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483465
and here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=514406
which is almost a step by step instruction.
hope it works out for ya

Out of curiosity, how different is Orange TF from the default TF (the blue background). Are the tabs different, what else is different. Any screen shot ? (Need to understand the situation before offering useful assistance)
There are two options for TF with orange customers. One is basicaly the normal Touch Flo with orange's background on the home page, and a few different tabs (an "Orange World" on and a few others missing, Google Maps at least iirc). The other is one similar to other, older Orange phones, with a shortcut menu on the home screen, which I hate and so didn't actualy use and cant tell you much about.
Ed, if you just want the normal touchflo I definatly saw an option to change it before i flashed mine, I think it was a program in the Start > Programs screen just called "Change Orange Screen" or something similar.
the main reason i unlocked the phone (HSPL) and flashed the WM6.5 overloaded ROM was to get away from the Orange crap too!
They have seriously messed with the network/internet side of things... i was horrified to see i could not connect to the interent with Wifi... i managed to get it to do it... but it took some messing about and its a case of forcing it.. and it not really liking it!
with this overloaded rom and the touch flow running (instead of windows default like i did have lol) i think its great! Its really built around Wifi and then using Hspda or what ever it is as a second option if wifi's not available! well worth re-flashing too!
i just want to know how i change the order of the icons at the bottom... messages, email, footprint etc
dont really see what foot print is tbh haha!
Do a hard reset then soft reset before the phone can customize. All the orange stuff is loaded after the main hard reset

Looking for a few more things...

I just got the TP2 for USCC last week. (WM6.5) I haven't used WM in about 2 years and am pretty dissapointed to find a lot of the same issues that were present then. I used to be a fairly competent WM user with above average knowledge in registry editing, ROM flashing, etc but most of what I used to use seems to have changed. So far I have found the fixes for the sms sent notification and the organization of the contact list by last name, first to first, last.
I've been all over these forums and cannot find a fix to disable the onscreen keyboard from auto-popping...ever. Also, in the sound settings menu, there is a slider to adjust ringer volume and another to adjust system volume yet these two don't work independently. I want system volume loud for hearing things like my IM app that runs in the background yet have the ringer volume lower as it's over bearing on full.
Something else I have noticed is that some settings menus appear to be there but not functioning. For instance, under settings>all settings>today there is a 2nd tab for items that does not change from the appearance tab. I've notice several menu's like this throughout the phone. It seems like there are things that other versions of WM may have had that this doesn't or simply that Microsoft/HTC got lazy in the initial release and either did not remove tabs that were not intended to be there or forgot to finish some that should. Just wondering if anyone has some insight into this.
I'm also looking for a good free IM client. I've seen many apps across these forums but with so many out there, it's hard to find the right one for me. I refuse to pay $45 for Agile messenger (although I've seen hacked versions but I would prefer not to deal with that). It's a decent app, not great but decent but $45 for a very simple app is outrageous. So, I found Slick ( http://slick.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile ) which is a free app and works great! The only feature it is missing that I liked about Agile is a notification (similar to the annoying sms message sent notification that I removed) while the app is in standby. Does anyone know of another free IM app that is simple and has that feature? I only use Google Talk and have noticed some apps specifically for that but there are so many to try, I'm hoping someone has a good recommendation to save me some time.
The last thing I'm curious about pertains to Manila. I see Manila all over these forums. I've done some reading on it and have a good understanding of what manila is. But, it's very confusing as some thread talk about reflashing ROMS for it and others talk about installing cabs over your current rom for it. Does anyone have a link to a good thread(s) that will explain things more clearly so I can make an educated decision on the best way to try this out? A, Manila for Dummies, if you will.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Edit: It looks like the "Manila" Touch Flo design is incorporated in WM 6.5 on my device already? Is this mainly the custom tabs located at the bottom of the today screen?

First of all, TF3D/TouchFlo3d, Manila, or Sense are essentially the same thing. It's a skin designed by HTC to cover up WinMo. You may say it's actualy just a very elaborate Today screen plugin. Since it takes up the whole screen, you would not be able to add other items.

See above for a crude definition. There are many versions, so that's why there's so much discussion in these forums about them. People are trying to use versions that didn't come stock with their devices.
TF2D or Manila 2D - for budget devices like the Touch Vivo, Touch Cruise, etc
TF3D v1 - originally came on the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro
TF3D v2- came with the Touch Diamond 2 and our Touch Pro2.
TF3D v2.1 - came with the release of the official WinMo 6.5 ROM for the Touch Diamond2 and our Touch Pro2. Identifiable with the weather under the clock in the Home tab.
TF3D v2.5 - came with the release of the Touch HD2. Has customizable shortcuts on the Home tab, revamped People tab, coverflow-like Pictures tab and Music tab when in landscape, and other goodies.
Btw, going forward, you may want to list out what you're asking in bullet point form. Most people are put off by long essay-like posts. You'll get more responses if your post is clear and short.

That actually clears it up quite a bit. So it appears that my CDMA TP2 with USCC is actually 2.1 or 2.5? I see you stated our TP2 is is 2.1 but your description of 2.5 seems to fit my phone. Either way, it looks like I can just addon on any Manila Cabs that customize the home screen more as Manila is already installed?

Where else are there menu options that doesn't look like they belong? Anyway, if there are, then it's because of Microsoft and not HTC. We're on WinMo is on version 6.5 now, but it really hasn't changed much since I first used a pocket PC back in 2000.

Certainly, there are components that are possible to install via cabs. But often, you'll need to flash a ROM with the particular build of Manila that you want to get those features.
So just to clear this up, if something is made for TF3D v2, it should (or might) work with our CDMA TP2 running the stock @M6.5 rom?
Also, anyone have a fix for the keyboard thing? I remembered the name of the cab i used to use, null keyboard but can't find anything that works with this rom. I've tried a few reg edits that have not worked.

It should, yes. However, if you have a TP2 with WM 6.5 you most likely have Manila 2.1 (in my case 2.1.191937). If you go to the Settings tab and scroll down, you should be able to see which version you have. That being said, many cabs work on all versions, a good few has to have a more specific version (like 2.0, 2.1 or 2.5) and a mere handful needs to be spot on (e.g. 2.1.1717).
After installing such a CAB you often need to restart your TF3D/Manila/Sense, and to do so you go to Start > Settings > Today and tick off HTC Sense. Tap OK and go back in to tick the HTC Sense box again. That restarts your TF3D.
Hope that made sense.
Thx for the clarification, I think I'm ready to start customizing this thing! I'm a bit hesitant as I really like alot of the features that come with the stock home screen. My last windows device was the 8125 and I modded the **** out of that home screen but this one I simply want to add a few highlights without loosing the over all look.
One thing I have been curious about is if there is a way to put a google search bar under the calendar. I know Google apps will put one up but then I have to go to my programs tab and open google apps so I might as well just eliminate a step and open opera.
I haven't checked to be honest with you, but I am satisfied with moving the internet tab a few notches closer to the home screen tab. I find that to be quick and easy enough! One tab on the tab and the google search is at the top of the screen.
Thanks for all the help! You gave me the tools I needed to dive back in. I understand the differences in Manila's now as I've flashed about 5 or 6 different roms. 2.5 is slick in theory, especially when Dusk Evolution v2.0 is theme is added but I had to return to 2.1. Thanks again for the help to get me started.
Im client look at PalRingo.. it's pretty awesome and covers most major networks (yahoo, MSN, gmail, facebook chat, icq others.
Yes, that's what I currently use. Kind of an old thread now too. I've come a long way since I started this thread.

Anyone upgrade from Kaiser to Leo?

Hi,
I'm specifically wanting to chat to users who has upgraded from a Kaiser to the Leo?
I know its a narrow request but im still using my kaiser and really want to know the impact of the loss of the hardware buttons etc.
Thanks
Kaiser to Leo
I've owned a kaiser for almost two years now and have been following XDA since the first day I got it, and with any luck i'll be getting the leo next week thru TMO. and will post any information I can.
Yep. Forgot about the Kaiser as soon as I got the Leo. Put it on sale, took it out again after a week to wipe/pack it, and wondered how on earth I spent 2 years on that tiny and slow brick.
The keyboard is missed indeed, but that's minor next to the rest.
moving from the Kaiser to the Leo is one thing you shall not regret..
the capacitive multitouch screen is awesome for typing, the big size makes it even better...
the 1ghz processer makes everything totally fluid, from the interface to the camera..
im sure you remember the openGL problems in the kaiser (hardware 3d acceleration), well that will be a thing of the past with the LEO which has openGLES 2.0 support
but hey, thats just my opinion
Two months ago I had to sent my HD2 for screen repair, at that time I was forced to use my Kaiser for a week. I was so shocked, everything was so slow and I could not orientate on the small screen.
I upgraded from Kaiser to Leo (HD2). The HD2 is the single best windows mobile device ever bar none IMHO. Upgrade now you will not regret it.
Thanks for your responses, please keep them coming!
The other question i have is: Which apps did you lose when you upgraded?
My list of favourite apps, are in my signature, so if you happen to know how well they run on the Leo, i'd appreciate the feedback.
Theoretically, they should all work, given my Kaiser is running 6.1 but since screen resolution may be a limitation of any application, i'd sure like to find out before i commit.
Lastly, is there any videos that show how appointments are displayed on the Leo's Today screen? Can you still add today screen items?
And is there a standby button to lock the screen and turn the screen off?
Cheers!
had Kaiser before Leo
There will be some things you will miss, but it will depend on how you use the phone and for what purpose.
I miss being able to highlight text in the calendar header (without having to go to edit mode. It is more difficult to highlight text without a stylus, and drawing in notes etc with a finger tip is a lot harder.
If you have added a lot of features to your Kaiser from XDA Dev (or other places). It will take you some time to find the adons to do the same functions. It's a whole new learning curve.
The HD2 is a giant step foward, but it does have it's quirks and frustrations. Plan on spending hours on here finding solutions.
It does not come with a belt case! You don't need a screen protector. The speakers are fairly CR#P. The graphics are fantastic - movies , photos etc. It has the Cool factor. Google maps are great on this.
The camera can be annoying - It won't take a picture until it can focus (if you have a moving object, can drive you crazy while it takes 10 seconds to focus).
The kaiser was great (would buy them for my staff), the HD2 is better.
I had to buy mine at full price as they are not brought into NZ by vodafone.
Note for any one in NZ - Vodafone phone insure wanted to replace my Kaiser (TYTN II) with a nokia E71, E72 or E75. they will not replace with a phone they do not sell, nor an iphone or BBerry The phone they sold for $1800, they replaced with a phone with resale value of $635.

By default the HD2 doesn't use the Today screen anymore, it's replaced by the HTC Sense interface. Check the official videos for a glimpse. You can enhance it (see this), disable it and go back to the old Today screen (would remove most of the HD2's beauty though), or integrate a Today screen within it as a tab (see this).

I'm looking to make this very upgrade as Virgin UK have what seems like a very good offer on at the moment - £25/month and HD2 for free. I do just have a couple of questions that may make the decision to move from my Kaiser easier for me - they might be silly questions, but here goes anyway:
A problem I currently have with the Kaiser is that the lock screen is very dim and I really struggle to see it in sunlight - does this problem still exist with the Leo?
I am very used to using the stylus or the keyboard and find that I make only a few mistakes in text entry - is the Leo's screen keyboard as easy to use and is there a text entry screen similar to the block recogniser or letter recogniser in WM6?
GPS on the Kaiser is very slow to get a fix using TomTom 6 - is the Leo quicker and will TomTom 6 still run on the Leo?
My Kaiser will usually go for a couple of days without a charge - with the same sort of use what sort of life should I expect with a Leo?
Many thanks in anticipation of some useful replies.

1) You'll have no problem with the lock screen on the Leo. A gesture is all it takes to unlock it and you can choose your own screen for good measure.
2) There are various inputs available for the HD2. Using the touch screen after being used to a hardware keyboard takes some getting used to, but once you're there you won't want to go back! I'd highly recommend Swype v3.19.20.20.6343 as an alternative text input method.
3) The HD2 is very, very fast at finding and locking onto satellites. It also downloads a satellite database when needed which means locking on takes seconds. I can even usually get a fix indoors quite easily, something none of my many GPS devices can't do.
4) You're looking at charging every night, depending on use. Obviously battery life isn't a strong point of a phone this powerful, but there are various ways to maximise battery life when you need to. I've settled for buying a spare battery ($4 from Dealextreme) and a charger which charges the spare battery + the phone (£3 on ebay).
Don't forget Quidco (www.quidco.com) if you're signing up to Virgin, currently £30 cashback to be had! http://www.quidco.com/virgin-mobile/
Good luck!
